F.P.Journe – OCTA Automatique Lune - Best of the Best 2017

F.P.JourneOCTA Automatique Lune Havana Dial - Best of the Best 2017

Awarded «Best of the Best 2017»
by Robb Report Russia

F.P.Journe is once again rewarded for its exceptional watch creations. The Octa Lune Havana is granted «Best of the Best 2017» by Robb Report Russia in the category Watch Best Dial.

This Best of the Best Prize awards the 2017 finest timepieces for their artistic expression and mechanical mastery. The dial colour is unique to F.P Journe, a result of the company’s well-tended independence, which ensures its creative freedom.

It was developed by Journe’s own dial-makers, Les Cadraniers de Genève, in a process lasting several months. In essence, it is a combination of gold and ruthenium. But to get the colour just right required many adjustments to the formula.

This Octa Lune Havana is a newest addition to the F.P.Journe collection of Haute Horology watches which features five days of power reserve (120H) with a variable inertia balance wheel for an optimum stability and a mono-directional 22K red Gold rotor that uses any slightest movement of the wrist for an optimized winding.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The unidirectional winding of the exclusive off-centre F.P. Journe rotor in 22K red Gold is achieved by a self-locking ball bearing system. Thus each movement, no matter how slight, is utilised for the optimal winding of the watch.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Watches with long power reserves have hitherto been handicapped by small balances which are susceptible to shocks and disturbances. The Octa's compact construction allows a large (10.1 mm) balance to be fitted, giving greater inertia and stability. The free-sprung chronometer balance is adjusted by five turning weights that vibrate at a steady 21'600 times an hour.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Fully wound, the Octa delivers chronometric precision for 120 hours. The meter-long mainspring supplies an average 850gr of torque, limiting the loss in balance amplitude to 25% over the five-day period. Beyond that time, the watch will continue to go for another day or two, but the amplitude-loss no longer guarantees precision timekeeping.

The central hours as well as the large date are easily to read. A specific wheel train allows precise moon phase indications. The special issue, Best of the Best, has been recognized as the epitome of Robb Report, the symbolic Hall of fame for luxury.

These watches are also available on a platinum bracelet and exclusively in the F.P.Journe Boutiques.

CORUM – Admiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze

CORUMAdmiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze

Corum weighs anchor

It’s definitely been a case of ‘all hands on deck’ this summer at Corum. The firm has been busy preparing a very special item for the autumn – one that’s unique not only in its own collections, but also in watchmaking as a whole: the Admiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze, in patinated bronze.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Unlike other timepieces made with raw bronze, that will age or even deteriorate with time, Corum has pushed the envelope to the limit by developing a fully pre-patinated bronze case. Exclusive to the brand, this treatment gives the piece a more pronounced maritime look, and above all results in a more finely-crafted aspect than raw bronze designs. Each Admiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze is unique in its own way, too: no two patinas give the alloy exactly the same colouration.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A natural patina builds up over time; our idea was to apply the same principle, halting the process before the alloy actually begins to corrode,” explains Corum CEO Jérôme Biard. “By using this approach, we allow unique colours to emerge in a process akin to pure artistic creation, with each hand-finished watch displaying unique character. The result verges on being a work of Contemporary Art – and that’s right in keeping with the Corum spirit.

Sea-burnished bronze

Resplendent in the hues revealed in this way, Corum’s Admiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze has been finished in different shades of brown, ranging from chestnut to chocolate. The dial of the piece has been specially designed in matching teak, featuring a vertical cut resembling that of a historic tall ship’s authentic teak deck – a nod to the seafaring pedigree of the Admirals.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Twelve pennants, the traditional hour markers for this collection, are arranged around the dial. Broad, skeletonised hands glide over them, powered by an automatic chronograph caliber boasting a 42-hour power reserve. The watch sits on a leather strap, carefully chosen to match the shades of the 45-millimetre patinated bronze case.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Existing interpretations of bronze are mostly much of a muchness, so we felt it was well worth developing an approach that was more distinctive, more artistic, and more in line with the maritime theme – making it look as though the timepiece had just been recovered after many years on the sea bed. This new composition is the result, exuding singularly imposing character and style,” concludes Jérôme Biard.

Ulysse Nardin – Executive Moonstruck Worldtimer Edition

Ulysse NardinExecutive MOONSTRUCK Worldtimer 46mm Limited Edition

EXECUTIVE MOONSTRUCK WORLDTIMER

Simplicity through watchmaking eloquence: this new model remains the only watch to depict the movements of the moon and sun in relation to the Earth, as well as a map of the tides.

Our solar system is composed of a star, eight planets, 175 satellites, and billions of particles of interplanetary dust. And yet, human beings spend their whole lives alongside just two celestial bodies: the sun and the moon. Since the beginning of time, they have featured in all faiths, embodied in every symbol, and fascinated every civi-lization. Their path through the sky, so familiar, and their power over the tides, are the basis of the new Moon-struck Worldtimer.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Leonardo da Vinci once said that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Ulysse Nardin has made this saying the cornerstone of its philosophy. In its purest definition, the Moonstruck Worldtimer recreates the moon’s orbit and the apparent movement of the sun around the globe. Its celestial ballet, just as it is seen from the Earth, is unlike anything an astronomical watch has previously offered. This intuitive display hides a sophisticated mechanism that provides an unusually accurate indication of the phases of the moon.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In the center of the dial, the Northern Hemisphere is depicted as seen from above the North Pole. Six o’clock in London represents the Greenwich meridian, marking Greenwich Mean Time. Three concentric discs turn around this fixed map of the world. The outermost circle features a symbol representing the sun. This solar disc, which completes one revolution in 24 hours, also sweeps over a display of 24 time zones and is equipped with a day/night indicator. These markings control the Worldtimer function, allowing the wearer to simultaneously display the time in the 24 cities inscribed on the internal flange.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As for the moon, this appears on a lower orbit. Two discs work together here: on top, the first functions as a circu-lar window showing the position of the Earth’s satellite; below, the second disc, in gold, shows the changing phases of the moon. By separating this unique display into two rotating parts, Ulysse Nardin has accomplished such a high level of precision that the time lag for each lunar month is just 5.7 seconds per day, or one day in 40 years.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Eight years after the first Moonstruck made its mark, the Moonstruck Worldtimer remains the only astronomical wristwatch with the bright part of the moon always facing the sun, as happens in real life. The dial also displays a particularly easy-to-read map of the tides, which is the result of the gravitational forces of these two celestial bod-ies, as well as of the centrifugal force exerted by the rotation of the Earth. This sometimes exaggerates or cancels out the influence of the oceans.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Equipped with silicium technology, and entirely designed and produced in-house, the self-winding calibre UN-106 housed in the Moonstruck Worldtimer once again offers a date function, on a track encircling the world map. Push buttons at 8 and 10 o’clock enable the wearer to quickly move the time forward or backward by one hour – a very handy feature while travelling or when switching to summer time.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A sign of its ever-independent spirit, Ulysse Nardin is one of the only comprehensive manufacturers in Switzer-land to master both innovation and watchmaking tradition. The owner of various patents, working right at the cut-ting-edge of technology, it also focuses on sharing ancestral knowledge through its artwork.

Junghans – Meister Driver Automatic

JUNGHANSMeister Driver Automatic

A watch for gentlemen

The new Meister Driver Automatic allows a journey in time, to when car travel was still a stylish adventure.
Click, to see the large size. FOTO

Reminder of a golden age

A very special atmosphere prevails in the evening, when the drivers gather in the country house. In the venerable library and comfortable lounge the drivers dis-cuss the challenges of the race track. The cars that they have pushed to their limits that day stand in the driveway.

Click, to see the large size. FOTO

British Racing Green is the predominant colour. It symbolises the historic sportiness of the racing cars like no other. It is these automobiles, with their traditional colours, that served as models for the design of the new Meister Driver Automatic – and bring this era back to life.

Sophisticated nostalgia

The new Meister Driver Automatic embodies the age when car driving was the preserve of the adventure-loving gentleman – with a leather cap and driving gog-gles.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The gold-coloured case in combination with the traditional colours green and brown lends a particular class to the timepiece. The large minute markers on the dial stand out clearly.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The grand, rectangular minute digits replace the familiar hour markers, becoming the distinguishing element on the dial. They are filled with luminous material, thus reflecting the technical character of the automobile timepiece.

Click, to see the large size. FOTO

Black Dauphin hands ensure good legibility and a whiff of nostalgia. Also in black is the date on the two-tone dial, which is refined with polished lacquer. As befits the legendary racer for the wrist, the perforated under-layer of the strap is based on the seats of classic historical cars – the next excursion beckons.

Junghans Meister Driver – passion and the pioneering spirit

The strong links between Junghans and the automobile have been in place since the end of the 19th century. Arthur Junghans, son of the company founder Erhard Junghans, was a close friend of Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. As a consequence, he bought one of the first Daimler test cars in 1892. Just three years later Arthur Junghans ordered a four-seater Motor-Viktoriawagen, for which he created worm gear steering. At the beginning of the 20th century the company produced car clocks. Numerous inventions were also made – in 1905 Dr. Oskar Junghans, son of Arthur Junghans, developed a speed measuring device with integral speed logging.

Click, to see the large size. FOTO

His brother Helmut shared his passion for the automobile. In 1924 he developed a "Viadicator" driving direction indicator in co-operation with the Leitz company of Wetzlar, a predecessor of the present-day indicator. More than a century of affinity for the automobile is continued today by the Junghans owners, Dr. Hans-Jochem and Hannes Steim. The Steim car collection in Schramberg, which celebrates its 10th birthday in 2017, contains a cross section from over 110 years of automobile history – with stylish classic vehicles that serve as inspiration for the models of the Meister Driver series, bringing this passion to the wrist.
