The in-house movement of the Vingt-8 was designed, built, fabricated, finished and assembled in its entirety in Voutilainen workshops. The design and philosophy of the movement combines respect for longevity and precision with classical watchmaking tradition. The movement has a very large balance wheel manufactured in-house, allowing perfect regulation of the watch to within strict tolerances. To equip such an exceptional timepiece, a very rare and unique balance- spring system has been used. The exterior of the spring uses a typical Phillips overcoil, while the internal curve uses the little known Grossmann curve.

The escapement makes the movement very special; this is the first watch to have two escapement wheels in such a configuration. The escapement wheels give a direct impulse to the balance through the impulse roller/jewel. This escapement is extremely efficient and requires much less energy than traditional lever escapements, offering benefits in terms of longevity and stability in day-to-day use. The balance-wheel bridge is sublimely elegant, offering an unimpeded view of the escapement and balance. It also allows the enthusiast to admire the synchronized movements of the escapement wheels.

The watch is finished to the highest standards. The surfaces of pinions and wheels are completely flat and highly polished to within exceptionally uniform tolerances. All finishing work on the main plate and bridges is by hand to achieve the highest possible levels of surface finish. Screws and all steel parts are finished and polished by hand

The wheels and pinions are perfectly polished, the bridges and mainplate are in German silver and hand-finished to superlative levels. All the steel parts are polished and hand-chamfered. This refined approach is also reflected on the dial of the Vingt-8. A solid silver base is guilloché-worked with a trompe l’oeil motif. Two zones appear to be magnified by an optical illusion created by a subtle variation in the guilloché pattern.

RJ launches the ARRAW 6919
RJ’s first in-house movement combined with Apollo 11 DNA.

On July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 spacecraft successfully landed the first men on the moon. Six hours after landing, Armstrong’s first-ever step onto the lunar surface became a legend worldwide.

Just 50 years later (1969–2019), to celebrate this major milestone in mankind, RJ is launching its first watch made by materials from the very surface of the moon – the ARRAW 6919.

The Movement: RJ-2180

ARRAW 6919 is both highly horological and aesthetically rich. The SW-280 mechanical self-winding movement has been modified by RJ engineers to accommodate the patented RJ Moon Phase mechanism that shows a 3D moon rotating 360° during a complete cycle of 29.5 days.

 The hour and minute indications at the center of the movement also indicate the location of the earth. All settings (time, moon indication, date) are done via the crown. The date set at 3 o'clock can be read with +4/–4 when the moon is between the gibbous moon and the first crescent.

The Case: ARRAW Space

For the first time, the emblematic RJ ARRAW 45-mm case design is inspired by the space universe. The bezel is made with super light and hard composite material combining a high-performance acrylic glass and parts from the Apollo 11 spacecraft.

This first-ever material created by RJ is fixed to the case by a metal grid, inspired by the Apollo 11 command module. The result is so natural and harmonious that it appears as if it were meant to be. The ARRAW 6919 is available in three different materials: polished and satin-brushed grade 5 titanium, ceramic and 5N+ red gold. The watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters or 330 feet.

Strap & Clasp

The ARRAW 6919 is equipped with the interchangeable ARRAW strap system that allows the strap to be released with a simple ‘click’ by pushing simultaneously on the two lug screws. On the clasp, a lever releases the strap from the deployment buckle without having the need to use any tools. The highly-resistant polyamide strap is waterproof thanks to its black rubber inlays. The engraved patterns are reminiscent of the iconic first steps on the moon.
