The dynamic world of motorsport and the beauty of advanced racing machines have inspired the Big Pilot’s Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition “IWC Racing” (Ref. IW590501). Limited to 15 pieces, this unique timepiece combines IWC’s complex constant-force tourbillon with a matte black Ceratanium® case and the iconic Big Pilot’s Watch design.

A CONSTANT FORCE ENSURES EVEN OSCILLATIONS

The powerful engine is the IWC-manufactured 94800 calibre, one of the most complicated mechanical movements ever designed in Schaffhausen. The patented constant-force mechanism disengages the escapement from the direct flow of power through the wheel train and transmits completely even impulses of energy to the escape wheel.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In conjunction with the tourbillon, which compensates for the negative influences of gravity on the oscillating system, this ensures a highly accurate rate.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The plates and bridges are fully blackened having undergone an elaborate rhodium-plating process to match the colour of the case. The movement, which is reminiscent of an engine block, can be viewed through the sapphire glass back.

THE FIRST BIG PILOT’S WATCH IN CERATANIUM®

The 46.2-millimetre case, striking conical crown and pin buckle are all made of Ceratanium®.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This IWC-developed material is light and robust like titanium but also similarly hard and scratch-resistant like ceramic. During the first step of the manufacturing process, the components are machined with maximum precision from a proprietary titanium alloy.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Afterwards, they are fired at very high temperatures in a kiln. It is during this furnacing process that a phase transformation takes place, and the surface of the material assumes properties similar to those of ceramic. Other characteristics of Ceratanium® are its skin-friendliness and unique matte black finish.

DETAILS INSPIRED BY THE WORLD OF RACING

While the constant-force tourbillon at 9 o’clock is the eyecatcher on the dial, the design also features a double moon phase display for the northern and southern hemispheres. White numerals and yellow-coloured accents imitate a dashboard, while the power reserve display at 4 o’clock is reminiscent of a tachometer.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The louvred, ring-shaped structure of the outer dial ring takes inspiration from the cold air intakes of a high-performance engine. Even the black rubber strap incorporates a detail from the world of racing. It features an inlay made of Alcantara®*, a synthetic and durable micro-fibre with superb grip, which is often used for the seats and steering wheel covers of performance cars.

The Grand Central is a spectacular new collection, where the Tourbillon is in the spotlight, placed at the center of the timepiece.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

One of the complexities of the collection, lies in the fact that we had to totally rethink the watch in order to move the Tourbillon from its original position at 6 o’clock to the center of the watch.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In addition to this attractive and surprising decentering, Franck Muller designers and watchmakers had to find an innovative system to display the time in the center of the watch.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Thus, they found an innovative way to place the hour and second hands around the Tourbillon cage, highlighting the beauty of the piece.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Extremely rare for a Franck Muller Tourbillon collection, the watch holds a self-winding movement, thanks to an eccentric micro rotor, offering 4 days of power reserve.

This beautiful central Tourbillon is housed in a redesigned Cintrée Curvex™ case where the sapphire crystal extends all the way to the bracelet, giving much greater visibility to the dial. Furthermore, the bezel which is separate from the case, allows beautiful two-tone treatments.

This design totally changes the aspect of the original Cintrée Curvex™ and fully highlights the beautiful curves of the watch. It also gives full visibility to the dial by limiting the amount of material used on the sides which is technically very difficult to achieve and giving the case a new modern line of life.

CHOPARD – Happy Sport Happy Ocean Automatic

CHOPARD – LADIES Happy Sport Happy Ocean Steel/Gold Automatic 2021

Happy Ocean
A diamond wave

The seductively feminine and glamorous yet technical Happy Sport watch collection takes the plunge into the azure waters of the South Seas. Bedecked in blue-grey livery with waves rippling across it, the aptly named Happy Ocean asserts its vocation as an ultra-chic sports watch.

Beating at the heart of the 40 mm case and water-resistant to 300 metres is the Chopard 01.01-C movement with automatic winding, while the dial is graced with the Happy Sport collections’ famous dancing diamonds.

Nautical by nature

Behind its glamorous allure expressed through ethical gold and steel, Happy Ocean conceals authentic underwater capabilities. As expected from diver's watches, it is equipped with a blue-grey unidirectional rotating bezel bearing a luminescent marker.

The gold-rimmed hour-markers on the dial are also luminescent, as are the wide hands. Finally, the screw-down crown in 18-carat rose gold contributes to the 300-metre waterresistance of the case.

The grey-blue dial with waves rippling across it – creating a matt on bright blue effect – is matched by the bezel and the calfskin leather strap. Reflecting the hues of the South Seas, this pervasive colour theme is further enhanced by the twirling of five dancing diamonds, resembling small bubbles rising to the surface or sparkling fish gliding across the dial’s distinctive wave motif.

This aquatic ballet is orchestrated by a movement with automatic winding, the 01.01-C calibre, entirely developed and produced in the Maison’s watchmaking workshops and ensuring a generous 60-hour power reserve. The watch is also available on a blue-grey NATO strap.

HUBLOT – BIG BANG Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire 43 Edition

BIG BANG Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire:
A FEAT OF PURE SAPPHIRE

It is true that sometimes less is more – perhaps a lot more. With the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire, Hublot has taken its Art of Fusion to its ultimate conclusion. A new integral bracelet and case custom-made from sapphire: this feat affirms yet again the technical proficiency and the exceptional expertise that Hublot has acquired in the working of sapphire.

th April 2021
– For some, this will seem a natural development. For others, it will be a total disconnect. The final result is a little of each. The Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire is the fruit of a long tradition. It is rooted in 2016, and the Big Bang Unico Sapphire, the first sapphire watch. With this piece,

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
Hublot
translated the expertise it had developed in machining very hard materials to create an exceptional series of sapphire watches. Today, Hublot is pushing these boundaries even further: the first Big Bang with an integrated case and bracelet, both of which are made from sapphire. A natural (r)evolution and a highly technical feat in equal measure.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

" For such an exceptional creation, we opted for the new Automatic Tourbillon calibre with its sapphire bridges, the transparency of which creates a stunning spectacle. The act of creating an integrated case and bracelet from sapphire was, however, deemed impossible. But we were the first brand to gain perfect mastery of sapphire, industrialising it and making it reproducible in series production. It took us five years to bring our first sapphire cases to life – and almost as long for the bracelet. Producing both from sapphire and integrating them together is the pinnacle of the in-depth work undertaken by all of Hublot's teams. We are proud to be the ones writing the first lines in this new chapter in the history of materials". - Ricardo Guadalupe, HUBLOT CEO

Watchmakers are sometimes the only ones to know certain details of their watches. With a case and bracelet made entirely from sapphire, all secrets are revealed: the movement and casing fuse, and every aspect is visible.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The case of this new Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire has been reconstructed in its entirety to house the Automatic Tourbillon movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
The goal: to remove almost all of the visible screws, overhaul the general geometry of the case to integrate it with the sapphire bracelet, develop a new case profile to house the sapphire bracelet, and rework the bridges and main plates to give them the illusion of being suspended in space.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Hublot
also developed inserts and attachments which were reduced to their simplest expression, to allow light through every component. The case is thus composed of no fewer than 37 components, five of which are made solely from sapphire.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The bracelet was also a complex challenge: it alone comprises 165 components, 22 of which are made from sapphire. Each component had its own industrial process.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A third of these were specially designed to provide unique harmony with the transparency of the case, and to offer fluidity and flexibility.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Of particular note are the titanium inserts Hublot developed, ultra-reduced to ensure they do not protrude either side of each bracelet link – a first for the manufacture, and probably for watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In terms of the movement, the HUB6035 automatic manufacture calibre, entirely designed and manufactured in-house, is the beating heart of the piece. It demonstrates a perfect balance between the micro-rotor at 12 o'clock and the tourbillon at 6 o'clock, and also with its three transparent sapphire bridges, exclusive to this new Big Bang

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The components appear to be literally suspended in space. Each gear train is not only penetrated by light coming in from the dial side and passing through the skeleton movement on the other side: now, and for the first time, light enters the heart of the Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire from all directions.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
It is diffused, refracted, reflected, twisted and twirled – a fragment of light encapsulated on the wrist.

CHRISTOPHE CLARET – CONCERTINO Minute-Repeater Dragons - Unique Piece

CHRISTOPHE CLARETCONCERTINO Minute-Repeater DRAGONS Gold 45mm - Unique Piece

CONCERTINO

 HAUTE HORLOGERIE MINUTE-REPEATER

Concertino is the new striking timepiece from master watchmaker Christophe Claret, who, for more than 35 years, has been glorifying the most beautiful of horological complications, the minute repeater, highlighting enamelling, engraving and guillochage, the trades exceptional art, extremely demanding.

This new masterpiece welcomes a completely redesigned movement with a unique regulator.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Concertino
features a large dial, set with an immense sapphire crystal, that sublimates the creations of the masters of art, under a finely satin-brushed bezel. The back, also transparent, allows you to admire the exceptional architecture of the movement, in particular its stepped and skeletonized "Charles X" bridges.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Concertino
is available in 5N red gold or grade 5 titanium, and its fully customizable dial makes it unique each time.

With this work, artist-watchmaker Christophe Claret once again confirms his excellence.

GENESYS

Since the day when Christophe Claret, then a student, entered the workshop of a watchmaker-restorer, he has nourished a passion for complicated timepieces, in particular old pocket watches, often equipped with a locking mechanism. Minute-repeaters, real little « chefs-d’œuvre » of precision striking hours, quarters and minutes on demand.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

He has continuously studied, understood and improved this grand complication which many consider to be the finest in watchmaking. Because to technical complexity is added musical poetry. In 1989, the first caliber signed by Christophe Claret was a minute repeater. A series of watches with evocative names followed: Adagio, Soprano, Allegro, and today Concertino, a new sheet from a prestigious musical score.

This timepiece is resolutely turned towards innovation, without technical or aesthetic compromise, with respect for excellence and heritage of Swiss Haute Horlogerie.

THE MOVEMENT: CRM89 CALIBER

Concertino sets the tone in the family of traditional complications watches, the first of the four collections of the Christophe Claret brand. It is inspired by previous creations by the master watchmaker, while once again pushing the limits of what is possible in this area. Its CRM89 caliber is an entirely redesigned composition, from the mainplate to the bridges, including the flywheel which regulates the minute repeater mechanism.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With a frequency of 3 hertz (21,600 vibrations per hour), the CRM89 caliber comes to life thanks to a single barrel. Concertino has a power reserve of around 60 hours. The request for the minute repeater is traditionally made through a sliding pusher on the left side of the case. We can therefore admire the choreography of the two hammers through the sapphire crystal back of the watch, and vibrate to the rhythm of the balance wheel.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Christophe Claret
is the designer of this four-branch balance wheel which offers an inertia / weight ratio close to the ideal balance: although very complex to manufacture, this aerodynamic balance is easy to adjust and balance.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Special
care has been taken in the Concertino "Cathedral" bells - as always with Christophe Claret. This type of bell has the particularity of going around the movement twice in order to express sounds that are longer, clearer and more powerful...

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Excellence is required for their manufacture in drawn steel, for their assembly and tuning. They benefit from a patented in-house invention which blocks significant vibrations despite their exceptional lengths and thus prohibits all parasitic noises.

The balance cockbridge has a micrometric adjustment system that is also patented.

AESTHETICS

As with its technical design, the aesthetic of Concertino is the fruit of the work and creativity of Christophe Claret.

The case harmoniously combines the polished and satin finishes of 5N red gold or titanium, highlighting the play of lights.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Grade 5 titanium is hard and very difficult to machine, it has the advantage of being extremely light and above all of sublimating the transmission of the ringing sound.

The dial (enamelled, engraved, set and / or guilloché) also magnifies the light and dark, with its unique nuances of hues and personalized materials.

The early Concertinos proudly display an ornamental hand engraving (nearly 1.5 mm) of two dragons - protectors of the Sun, an 8 mm pigeon's blood ruby, in its rose gold livery or protectors of the Earth, a sapphire 8 mm blue, in its titanium livery.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

On the back side, we find the famous stepped and skeletonized Charles X bridges, signatures of Christophe Claret. The movement is in microblasted and rhodium-plated nickel silver for the Concertino grade 5 titanium version, or 4N red gold plated for the 5N Gold Concertino version. It lives in the heart of a box 45 millimeters in diameter. Overcoming the incabloc, the gold bezel is set with a brilliant-cut ruby.
