Perrelet 1777 – TURBINE Snake Edition

Perrelet 1777TURBINE Snake Black Titanium 44mm Special Edition 2025

On the occasion of the upcoming Chinese New Year, which will be celebrated on 29 January 2025, marking the beginning of the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar, Perrelet has created the Turbine Snake, dedicated to the Year of the Wood Snake. According to tradition, the Wood Snake is a sign of the zodiac that embodies wisdom and creativity, reflection and mystery: associated with the element of wood, it acquires profound inner strength and the capacity for renewal, promising a year full of opportunities, peace and harmony.

Established in 1777, Perrelet continues its series of watches dedicated to the Chinese zodiac, drawing on the inventiveness of its designers, the talent of its master craftsmen and all the industrial skills that enable it to produce its own products in complete autonomy. With the Turbine collection, the Swiss watch manufacture has once again given free rein to artistic expression, interpreting the theme of the Snake while respecting traditional themes and rituals.

A 3D snake imbues the dial with a unique identity

The Turbine Snake features a red lacquered sub-dial, the colour of luck and protection, decorated with golden auspicious ideograms for well-being and prosperity. Above it, the figure of the snake in stamped and gilded metal stands out with a 3D effect, like a bas-relief: its erected head, with cunning eyes and forked tongue, rises high above the twisted coils of its body, covered with two types of scales.

The image of the snake, exuding strength and energy, is made visible by the rotating turbine, a distinctive element not only of this timepiece but of the entire collection. Made up of 12 black anodised aluminium blades, it is activated with just the slightest movement of the wearer's wrist. The faster the blades move, the more the figure of the reptile is revealed in all its expressiveness.

For this creation, the rose gold-tone hands are coated with two segments of Super-LumiNova®, making them easy to read even in the dark. The hour track is red, perfectly matching the colour of the sub-dial, and has Arabic numerals alternating with luminescent trapezoidal hour markers. Red is also used for the slender central seconds hand. The dial is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass.

A smooth and performing device

The Turbine, from which the collection takes its name, is a device patented in 2009 and based on the experience acquired by the Perrelet Manufacture in the field of dynamic watchmaking, starting with the Double Rotor Technology developed in 1995. Unlike the Double Rotor, the Turbine has a decorative rather than a functional value, but it also involves difficulties in its manufacture, particularly in terms of assembly.

In fact, the watchmakers responsible for the assembly of the device, which is composed of 12 aluminium blades with 5 tungsten counterweights, have to be extremely skilled in order to ensure that the blades rotate smoothly on their axis and return to their initial position once the kinetic energy has been exhausted. The turbine is therefore a tangible demonstration of the expertise and know-how of the Manufacture's master watchmakers.

A light and comfortable habillage

The Turbine Snake case is crafted from black DLC-coated grade 2 titanium and measures 41 mm in diameter and 13.82 mm in thickness. It is made of an extremely light yet highly corrosion resistant material and is available in a size that is suitable for the widest audience. Thanks to its perfect ergonomics, it ensures optimal comfort when worn on the wrist.

The latest generation design features a flat, slightly flared bezel, a case middle with the traditional grooves, lugs with central attachments that impeccably integrate the rubber strap, and a prominent crown, fluted and decorated with the P of the logo. The Turbine Snake is secured to the wrist with a black rubber strap, also embossed with the P of the logo, and fastened with a folding buckle.

A reliable and accurate movement

The mechanical heart of the Turbine Snake is the P-331-MH calibre. Designed and manufactured in-house, it is produced by Soprod, a company specialising in movements and owned by Miguel Rodriguez, who also owns Perrelet. It is self-winding, guarantees a 42-hour power reserve when not worn and is equipped with a balance-wheel that beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz).

Known and appreciated by aficionados of micro-mechanics, this calibre has received a double certification, having successfully passed the rigorous tests of two prestigious independent institutes. The first is the official chronometer certificate issued by Cosc (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), which asserts its precision. The second is the Chronofiable® certificate issued by the Dubois Laboratory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which guarantees long-term reliability.

The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case-back, decorated with the same image of the snake that appears on the lower dial. It also bears the progressive number of the limited edition of 88 pieces worldwide.

All the components are finished to a high standard: the snailing mainplate, the circular-graining on the bridges and the openworked, rhodium-plated and brushed oscillating weight mounted on ball bearings embellished with the Perrelet logo.

The Turbine Snake comes in a bespoke box with the depiction of the snake motif on the inside. It is accompanied by the certificate bearing the limited-edition number and the movement's COSC certification.
