 Dakar 2023 : the Rebells upset the established order

With their new, sharpened Toyotas and after the first eight stages, the two crews of Team Rebellion Racing have achieved one good result after another in the magnificent landscape of Saudi Arabia. Summary of the race.

What to do with a Toyota GR Hilux DKR T1+ powered by a V6 3.5 liters gasoline bi-turbo? For Romain Dumas and Max Delfino (#231), the question does not arise. The winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and, among others, of the Pike Peak hill climb, is taking advantage of his assets to thwart the competition. The performances are there.

The duo quickly took the measure of their new vehicle's capabilities. Their opponents are aware of it. The crew is in 6th position in the general classification at the end of the 8th stage. 

The duo, racing together for the first time, progressed with a fighting spirit throughout the complexly navigated stages. The blue camouflage of their Toyota does not go unnoticed on the stony and sandy tracks of Saudi Arabia!

When the elements are unleashed, Highway to Ha'il becomes the anthem of the Dakar. Dantesque weather conditions were the reason for the 3rd stage. The race was stopped at checkpoints 2 and 3, which disrupted the organization of the following stages.

For the Rebells, this unexpected stop of the competition gave them the opportunity to focus on the rest of the event. The result? Alexandre Pesci and Stephan Kuhni (#251) who had finished at a respectable 51st place in the general classification during the 43rd Dakar consolidate this year their position in the Top 40.

For their fourth participation in the Dakar in a row, the experience of the non-professional team speaks for itself! In the face of adversity, the Rebells take up every challenge with panache. Both of them do not forget that the prestigious rally-raid is not only a race, it is an endurance event!
