Jaquet Droz – GRANDE SECONDE Skelet-One 280th Anniversary

Jaquet DrozGRANDE SECONDE Skelet-One 280th Anniversary

In a new architectural interpretation of its icon, the Grande Seconde Skelet-One lets light into the heart of its mechanics.

The Grande Seconde incarnates the essence of the Jaquet Droz watchmaking art. While the brand has oft varied its design, for the first time it proposes a sapphire dial integrated within a skeleton composition. The Grande Seconde Skelet-One marks a true stylistic turning point in the brand’s history, as part of its prestigious 280th anniversary celebrations.

The objective of this creation was to let light shine to the deepest reaches of the Grande Seconde, all while preserving the figure “8” shape that is its aesthetic signature. To do so, Jaquet Droz maintained the uncluttered character of the dial that is distinguished by the legendary hours and minutes counter with Roman numerals at 12 o’clock, intertwined with the large seconds counter with Arabic numerals at 6 o’clock.

The composition stays true in all aspects to the original inspiration of the Grande Seconde, playing with decorated surfaces as much as empty spaces. As in music, where rests count just as much (if not more) than notes, the Grande Seconde finds balance as it alternates between full and empty.

Similarly this new interpretation in total transparency – a first for Jaquet Droz – accords ample breathing space to the time indications. Hours, minutes and seconds stand out in a new transparent aesthetic bathed in light. Jaquet Droz has left only the bridges showing, which structure the piece’s movement.

The sapphire dial, on which the large seconds hand turns, perfectly complements the skeleton movement, constructed in successive layers, themselves visible from the side. The plate is now entirely openworked. The casing-up circle has been eliminated, allowing for a more open composition. At 12 o’clock, the hours and minutes turn around a sapphire hour ring, set on a base of gold. The ensemble is held together by five indexed screws, oriented in a chosen direction.

Used for the first time by Jaquet Droz, this procedure was derived from an existing armory system and adapted by the brand’s technical teams. The oscillating weight in gold has also been openworked to let light diffuse freely into the heart of the movement.

OFFICINE PANERAI – PAM00956 LUMINOR Regatta Transat Classique 2019 Edition

OFFICINE PANERAIPAM00956 LUMINOR Regatta Transat Classique 2019 - 47mm Unique Special Edition

Luminor Transat Classique Regatta

To celebrate the most extreme classic race in the world – 2,000 miles across the Atlantic ocean – Panerai has created the Luminor Transat Classique Regatta, an exclusive special edition of 150 examples of the chronograph with a reverse countdown mechanism for indicating the moments preceding the start of a race with greatest accuracy.

Panerai presents the Luminor Regatta Transat Classique, a remarkable new watch for wearing at sea, created in only 150 examples in honour the most thrilling international regatta for classic yachts: the Panerai Transat Classique 2019. The challenge is an epic one: in January 2019 a fleet of classic yachts will set sail from Lanzarote and cross the Atlantic Ocean, heading for their destination, St Kitts in the Caribbean Sea.

The crews will face the 3,000 nautical miles of this route – which is engraved on the back of the watch together with the logo of the race – relying only on their skill, their courage and the timbers of their magnificent yachts, trying to emulate the great navigators of the past in this race which is not only against the other competitors but above all a battle against the power of nature. Also taking part in the race will be Panerai’s 1936 Bermudan ketch, Eilean, tackling the 38th transatlantic crossing of her career.

The watch has an overall blue look, that being the colour of the dial and the rubber strap, set off by the solid brushed titanium case and its polished bezel. The new Luminor Regatta Transat Classique is a chronograph designed for everyone who loves the sea. It is fitted with the race countdown function, which enables the minutes and seconds preceding the start of a race to be measured.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The remarkable simplicity of using the function is a tribute to the excellent innovative technology incorporated in the P.9100/R automatic chronograph calibre: the push-piece at 4 o’clock stops the orange chronograph minute hand at the desired moment in relation to the length of the countdown. When the chronograph is started, the relative hands begin to move, indicating first the minutes and seconds remaining until the start and, once the countdown is completed, the time elapsed since the start of the race.

Other functions and features enhance this precision instrument, making it the perfect companion for life at sea: the classic Panerai device protecting the winding crown, which helps to ensure the watch’s water-resistance to 10 bar (a depth of about 100 metres);

The flyback chronograph with two counters, for measuring two partial times in quick succession; the tachymeter scale in knots on the flange, for calculating the speed of the boat; the power reserve of three days, ideal for covering the requirements of a long weekend at sea; and the device for zeroing the seconds hand to achieve perfect synchronisation.

This powerful concentration of design and technology, available exclusively in Panerai boutiques throughout the world, is the result of Panerai’s exceptional expertise in high quality sports watchmaking.

The Luminor Regatta case has the characteristic Panerai lever device for protecting the winding crown, and it is 47 mm in diameter. It is made of brushed titanium, a material which is light and strong with the bezel polished in contrast. The solid back is engraved in relief with the inscription - PANERAI Transat Classique 2019.

F.P.Journe – OCTA lineSport 2018

F.P.JourneOCTA Centigraphe Sport and Octa Sport - lineSport 2018

CENTIGRAPHE SPORT AND OCTA SPORT 2018

F.P.Journe introduces a new design for the Centigraphe Sport and the Octa Sport. The two models are available with a 44 mm diameter case in Titanium grade 5 of anthracite color with an assorted bracelet. The bezel in Titanium and ceramic follows the codes of the Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante with numbers engraved in the Titanium base. For the first time, a new bright yellow dial brings a new intensity to the lineSport with luminescent appliqué numbers surrounded with black as well as sapphire counters with red numbers.

The Titanium is frequently used in boating and the aeronautics for its lightness and it high resistance to corrosion and wear. Its matte finishing is emphasizing its contemporary sportive aspect. In a constant quest for performance and lightness, the movement is made from Aluminium alloy, each watch weighing 75 grams.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The hand-wound mechanical movement of the Centigraphe indicates elapsed times from a 100th of a second to 10 minutes, visible on 3 dials.

The Octa Sport features a day and night indication and a date now even larger (4.7 x 2.6 mm) for optimal readability. The automatic winding mechanical movement with a Titanium rotor and a Tungsten segment uses any slightest movement of the wrist to increase the winding of the watch providing 160 hours of power reserve.

The Centigraphe Sport and the Octa Sport are also available with a case and bracelet in Platinum or 18K red Gold with hammered finishing.

THE CENTIGRAPHE SPORT

The Centigraphe Contributes to the Medical Research of the ICM

Godfather of the Centigraphe Souverain, Jean Todt remains the initiator of F.P.Journe’s engagement towards the ICM – Institute of Brain and Spinal Cord in Paris - to help fight degenerative diseases.

In purchasing an F.P.Journe Centigraphe, you are also supporting the medical research carried out by the ICM. Along with Professor Gérard Saillant, Luc Besson, Jean Réno, Jean Todt, Michelle Yeoh and Michael Schumacher, amongst others, François-Paul Journe has committed to the ICM in donating 30% of the profits from the sale of each Centigraphe Sport to the ICM, with no time limit. (www.icm-institute.org).

Patented ergonomic chronograph

The chronograph is started, stopped and zeroed by a rocker at 2 o’clock in the case band, instead of the usual buttons on either side of the crown. This ergonomic design, perfectly fitted to the wristwatch, is patented (No EP 818 734 A1).

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Patented chronograph mechanism

A second patent (No EP 1 978 424 A1) was granted for the mechanism’s ingenious configuration, which effectively isolates the chronograph from the timekeeping function. This means the balance amplitude is unaffected when the chronograph is running. The hands of the 100th of a second counter, the 20 seconds, and the 10 minutes hand are driven by 2 different wheel trains, themselves driven by the centre of the mainspring. Another separate train of wheels, also driven by the barrel arbor, drives the 10-minutes hand.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

1/100th second recorder hand

The 100th of a second’s hand, released by the watch's escapement, makes one revolution of the dial per second. A wheel mounted on the escape wheel (4th wheel of the going train) releases the arbor to which the hand is fitted. The seconds are driven by the going train from the barrel, and by the energy of the chronograph train, as transmitted by the barrel arbor.

One ingenious feature of the 100th of a second is that it may be stopped anywhere along its one-second journey around its dial, even between two 100th-second divisions, enabling a fractional reading. This is achieved by vertically disengaging the pinion of the 100th of a second hand from that of the escapement, which presses on the pivot shank and acts as a brake.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Return to zero

The 20-seconds hand and the 10-minutes hand are zeroed back by hammer levers acting on the snail cams. The 100th of a second hand is stopped at zero by a beak protruding from its pinion, which presses on a lever and thus blocks the chronograph train.

Maintaining power and power reserve

The barrel features a maintaining power system in order to ensure that the driving force does not decrease during winding. The mainspring supplies at least 80 hours of power reserve without the chronograph, and 24 hours with the chronograph running.

THE OCTA SPORT
Zoom on the winding of the Octa calibre

The Octa calibre 1300-3 is a constant search for functionality and provides a power reserve of 160 hours. The unidirectional winding of the exclusive off-centre F.P. Journe rotor in achieved by a self-locking ball bearing system.

Thus each movement, no matter how slight, is utilized for the optimal winding of the watch and an irreproachable stability.
