GREUBEL FORSEY – GMT Quadruple Tourbillon Titanium Edition

GREUBEL FORSEY GMT Quadruple Tourbillon Titanium Edition 2021

TITANIUM AND BLUE, A NEW CHAPTER FOR
THE
GMT QUADRUPLE TOURBILLON

The GMT Quadruple Tourbillon had only one chapter. Today, Greubel Forsey writes the second and reveals an 11 piece edition of this groundbreaking timepiece in Titanium.

With new materials, new colours and new finishes, this revolutionary and modern limited edition launches the GMT Quadruple Tourbillon towards unex- plored horizons and resolutely marks the dawn of a new chapter.

A HOROLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH

The GMT Quadruple Tourbillon is radical in all its aspects. First of all, by its construction. The Quadruple Tourbillon is Greubel Forsey’s second Fundamental Invention, The mission: to average out positional errors due to gravity in all situations, especially in stable wristwatch positions.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To achieve this, the original tourbillon has been elevated to realise its full potential: inclined at 30°, doubled and then quadrupled. The result, two synchronised Double Tourbillon 30° mechanisms, where a first cage, inclined at 30° and rotating in one minute, is nested within a second horizontal cage, completing a full rotation in four minutes.

A spherical differential transmits the average timing rate of the four tourbillon cages, improving the overall chronometric performance of all the regulating organs.

A TOTALLY NEW EXPERIENCE ON THE WRIS

The GMT Quadruple Tourbillon is radical by design. With this exclusive limited edition in titanium with striking blue accents, Greubel Forsey offers an unexpected alternative to the precious metals that High-end watchmaking traditionally favours. Titanium has numerous qualities: it is both stronger and lighter than steel, while also being extremely resistant to corrosion and magnetic fields.

With a reduction of over a third of its weight, the new titanium case offers a brand new, modern and dynamic feel on the wrist, which has inspired the choice of the new rubber strap, in order to assert this new contemporary identity.

HAND FINISHING PAR EXCELLENCE

The toughness of titanium, which defines the 46.5mm case of the Greubel Forsey GMT Quadruple Tourbillon, presents a significant machining and hand-finishing challenge for the components made from it, such as the GMT pusher or the folding clasp or the crown. In addition, new hand finishing details have been specially created for this timepiece.

The circular-grained hour ring with polished bevels and 72-hour chronometric power reserve indication appear for the first time in a brilliant blue. The mainplate is now frosted and spotted with polished bevelling, countersinks and straight-grained flanks, executed in a grey finish.

BETWEEN EARTH AND SEA

Planet Earth, set near eight o’clock, shines in a new light with the blue livery. An original Greubel Forsey creation from ten years ago (2011), the rotating terrestrial globe allows for the simultaneous display of several different time zones: on the dial side, with a 24-hour ring around the Earth, for Day/Night indication and on the caseback side, displaying 24 major cities their respective time zones while distinguishing between those which use summer time (on a light coloured backdrop), and those which do not (on a dark backdrop).

The sapphire crystal window around the equator completes the timepiece, offering a complete view of the Earth in motion, with its continents immersed in the deep blue ocean waters, complementing the exquisite blue finish of the power reserve, hour circle and strap.

Gaydon, UK, 22 February 2021 - Girard-Perregaux has been announced as Official Watch Partner of luxury British automotive manufacturer, Aston Martin. The Swiss Manufacture is one of the oldest names in watchmaking, known for making peerless exemplars of Haute Horlogerie. The two brands will collaborate on upcoming limited-edition timepieces.

In the relentless pursuit of speed, time is the overriding concern. The race against the clock has captivated fans of motorsport for over 100 years, while the measurement of time has challenged watchmakers throughout history. The similarities between both domains are clear to see.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Both Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux were founded by visionaries with an innate passion. Aston Martin was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, while Girard-Perregaux can trace its origins to 1791 when Jean-François Bautte, aged just 19, produced his first watch. But most notably, it was a love story which led to the birth of one of the greatest names in watchmaking when Constant Girard married Marie Perregaux in 1854.

The now-legendary Aston Martin DBR1 (1956), a car made for competitive racing, was a precursor for some of the marque’s most well-known heritage ‘DB’ road cars. It was styled in-house by a highly talented designer, Frank Feeley, and represents what is unquestionably his ‘finest hour’ – indeed the shape of the DBR1 remains one of the most beautiful and graceful of all time. Moreover, the design incorporates a key functional attribute – the side air vent – which debuted on this car and remains a key functional and visual characteristic of Aston

Martin
’s road-going sports cars to this day. This functional element has become a key aesthetic detail that imbues the marque’s models with their distinctive personality. In fact, one glance at an Aston Martin car immediately reveals the identity of its maker.

Similarly, when Girard-Perregaux released its now-famous Tourbillon ‘With Three Gold Bridges’ in 1867, it transformed three functional components, often hidden from view, into attractive aesthetic features. Indeed, with the advent of this watch, the once invisible was deliberately made visible. Throughout its 230-year history, the Swiss Manufacture has demonstrated its creativity, often playing with different shapes. Indeed, it is this mindset that inspired the brand’s slogan ‘Shaping the now for those in the know.’

While both organisations have amassed a wealth of skills and traditions, they continue to look ahead. Indeed, it is this progressive mindset which sees both firms embrace continuous improvement and pursue superior performance.

Tobias Moers, Aston Martin Lagonda’s Chief Executive Officer, remarks: “The real beauty of partnerships such as this one is that, although we share very similar core values, the two brands can learn a great deal from one another. Girard-Perregaux is a prolific innovator in the use of materials and new technology. We both create highly desirable luxury products that are beautifully designed, deliver a powerful performance and exhibit flawless execution.”

Otmar Szafnauer, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula OneTM Team Chief Executive Officer and Team Principal, remarks: “We at Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™  Team are thrilled to be announcing a partnership with Girard-Perregaux today. Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux share so many brand touchpoints – a rich history, a glorious heritage, and a relentless devotion to the pursuit of premium quality combined with high technology. On the racetrack, time, too, is of the essence. Formula One™  and Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™  Team in particular will prove themselves to be respectively a fantastic platform and a brilliant partner for Girard-Perregaux, whose timepieces lead the way in terms of quality and desirability.”

Patrick Pruniaux, Girard-Perregaux’s Chief Executive Officer, adds: “2021 is an important year for both Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin. We are celebrating an astonishing 230 years of watchmaking, whilst Aston Martin celebrates its return to Formula One as a works team for the first time in over 60 years. We have much to celebrate so uniting our worlds to create something special is the perfect way to acknowledge and appreciate these milestones.”

Girard-Perregaux branding will feature on the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™  Team cars as of the beginning of the 2021 F1 season in Bahrain while the first timepiece to be borne from the collaboration between Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux will be revealed later this year.

IWC – PILOT’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Tribute to 3705” (Ref. 387905)

IWC SchaffhausenPILOT’s Watch Chronograph Edition Tribute to 3705” (Ref. 387905) 2021

NEW LIMITED EDITION PAYS TRIBUTE TO 1994 ICONIC “BLACK FLIEGER”

Schaffhausen, 25th February 2021 – With the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Tribute to 3705”, IWC Schaffhausen travels back in time to honour the legendary Ceramic Fliegerchronograph (ref. 3705) from 1994.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

After fading into obscurity for almost a quarter of a century, it became a cult classic and is now considered one of the most sought-after models from IWC’s recent history.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The new tribute edition faithfully replicates the original’s dial design. Instead of using ceramic, however, it features a case made of Ceratanium®, a groundbreaking new material developed by IWC. Powered by the in-house 69380 calibre and fitted on a black calfskin strap, this special edition is limited to 1000 watches and sold exclusively on IWC.com.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Throughout its 152-year history, IWC has created modern icons such as the Big Pilot or the Portugieser Chronograph. But tucked away in the archives, there are also hidden gems; timepieces that are overlooked before they shoot to unexpected fame. One such model is the “IWC Fliegerchronograph Keramik” from 1994, which was IWC’s first Pilot’s Watch with a case made of black zirconium oxide ceramic. Despite its use of this highly innovative material and its purist instrument design, the chronograph enjoyed little success. After only about a thousand pieces, production was discontinued a few years later.

FROM OBSCURITY TO A CULT CLASSIC

The ref. 3705 did not become famous until about a quarter of a century later. Following various articles on specialised blogs, the “Black Flieger” caught the attention of a growing number of watch enthusiasts. With luminous indices and hands, which had aged over time to a warm orange, the once-forgotten chronograph was winning collector’s hearts with its distinct neovintage charm.

The IWC SchaffhausenPILOT’s Watch Ceramic Chronograph ref. 3705 (1994)
===========================================
One piece from the personal collection of former IWC director Günter Blümlein was auctioned for a staggering 53,750 US dollars. But the ref. 3705 does not only embody IWC’s heritage as a manufacturer of professional instrument watches for aviators. With its black ceramic case, the model is also an early testimony to the extensive materials expertise that IWC has acquired since the 1980s; a quality that still distinguishes the company as a modern watchmaker today.

FROM ZIRCONIUM OXIDE CERAMIC TO CERATANIUM®

The newly released Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Tribute to 3705” (Ref. 387905) pays homage to this exceptional timepiece and is limited to 1000 pieces. The dial is a replica of the original from the 1990s. Two totalizers at 9 and 12 o’clock display stop times of up to 12 hours, the small second is located at 6 o’clock. Another feature is the day and date display at 3 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The ref. 3705 was pioneering in the use of black ceramic, and the tribute edition likewise features a recent innovation from IWC’s material scientists: the case, chronograph pushers and pin buckle are made of Ceratanium®, an IWC-developed material that is light and robust like titanium, but also similarly hard and scratch-resistant like ceramic.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In the first step, the case components are machined from a special titanium alloy. Afterwards, the parts are treated in a furnace firing process, during which a phase transformation takes place, and the surface of the material assumes properties similar to ceramic.

POWERED BY THE IN-HOUSE 69 CALIBRE

While the original ref. 3705 was powered by the Valjoux calibre 7750, the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Tribute to 3705” boasts sophisticated movement technology from Schaffhausen. Inside the 41-millimetre case, the in-house 69380 calibre is at work. This robust and precise chronograph movement in classic column wheel design is one of the latest developments from IWC’s engineers. A bi-directional pawl winding system reliably builds up a power reserve of 46 hours.

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Tribute to 3705” is available exclusively through IWC.com, wechat, YNAP, and official flagship store on Tmall as a limited edition of 1000 pieces

We’re stoked to announce our partnership with Australian lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina – the inspiration for Breitling’s rugged, retro Top Time Deus, designed for earth-based gods and goddesses who live and love an adventurous life.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As part of this exciting new partnership, Breitling is now also the official timekeeper of the Deus Swank Rally – the epic motorcycle championship celebrating vintage bikes in diverse locations around the world, including Italy, France, Australia, and Bali. But the Top Time Deus Limited Edition isn’t just for bikers, as Breitling CEO Georges Kern points out.

“Bikers, boarders, surfers, digital nomads … this is a timepiece for dynamic people of action, purpose, and style. Our versatile Top Time Deus celebrates having the freedom to explore the world your way, at your pace.”

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The people behind Deus Ex Machina share this view. “The Deus philosophy recalls an era before the various pursuits of fun – motorcycling, surfing, skateboarding, whatever – were marketed into fundamentalist factions. All are welcomed under the Deus roof,” says founder Dare Jennings.

Meet the Deus Squad

And anyway, who says you have to pick just one pursuit? Californian Forrest Minchinton, who’s passionate about surfboards as well as motorcycles, is a prime example.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

“It’s all about a life well ridden, and if you can stop time while keeping time, all the better,”
says Minchinton. He’s part of the triumvirate of Breitling’s new Deus Squad – which also includes Hawaiian competitive surfer Sierra Lerback and French motorcycle engineer and designer Jeremy Tagand.

All three have been involved with Deus Ex Machina for years and are now a part of its rugged and fearless DNA. Breitling is excited to have them on board for the launch of a timepiece that expresses their no-limits approach to life.

Whenever Adventure Beckons

Co-designed with Deus Ex Machina, the Top Time Deus chronograph is a nod to Breitling’s original 1960s edition and a true tribute to the nomad spirit. The first Top Time had a clear mission – suiting the needs of “young and active professionals” with a range of “ultra-modern” chronographs. The retro vibe of today’s edition has an enduring appeal. It’s not about keeping time, but rather expanding it whenever adventure beckons.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Bold yet classy, this new version sports a racing-themed calfskin leather strap. Its silver dial displays yellow and orange details, squircle-shaped chronograph counters, and the Deus logo and its adage “In benzin veritas” – offset in white on its black tachymeter scale.

The back of its 41-millimeter stainless-steel case features the iconic Deus artwork of a retro-looking motorcyclist in full flight designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell. It is powered by the Breitling Caliber 23, a COSC- certified chronometer with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

But maybe the quirkiest detail is its chronograph hand in the shape of a lightning bolt. And like lightning, you’ve got to be fast: there are only 1,500 of these available. In its first four weeks, the Top Time Deus will be an online exclusive before hitting Breitling’s global retail network.

Customers who order the watch online at www.breitling.com will also get a stunning limited-edition Deus coffee table book and unique canvas tote bag.
