TAG Heuer - Mikrogirder 10000

TAG Heuer - Mikrogirder 10000 NEW Basel 2012

For 2012, the pioneering MIKROGIRDER is TAG Heuer’s greatest achievement in watchmaking engineering to date. This game-changing technology revolutionizes the very heart of the watch — the regulator. More than the Pendulum or the Mikrotimer, the MIKROGIRDER represents a total departure from the conventional, three-centuries-old Christiaan Huygens system, which today still reigns over the mechanical watch industry.

Simpler, faster and more efficient than science dreamed possible, impervious to gravity and dramatically reducing isochronous error, potentially easier to manufacture and able to precisely measure time to a phenomenal 5/10,000th of a second today, and probably even more precisely tomorrow TAG Heuer challenges three centuries of hairspring/balance wheel mechanical regulation conventions to create a totally new mechanical regulator.

The legendary Swiss brand is now unveiling a first Concept version, a 5/10,000th of a second chronograph beating at 1,000 Hz or 7,200,000 beats per hour!

Conceived, developed and manufactured in-house in the company’s R&D lab in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the MIKROGIRDER is the fastest mechanical regulator ever crafted and tested. Overturning three centuries of watchmaking convention in the way mechanical energy is generated, stored and regulated, the MIKROGIRDER opens a promising new era in watchmaking, with potentially powerful and energy-sparing new movements precise to ever-smaller fractions of time.

Accurate to an unprecedented 5/10,000 or 1/2,000th of a second, the MIKROGIRDER is a completely new regulator system — a coupling blade/girder and excitatory blade/girder system working with a linear oscillator (versus a spiral shape in a classical hairspring) that vibrates isochronously at a very small angle, as opposed to a traditional watch, which vibrates at an angle of up to 320 degrees.
The advantages are numerous. In a classic spiral hairspring system, the effect of gravity due to mass is a dominant issue. With the MIKROGIRDER, the problem no longer even exists. There is no loss of amplitude and the movement’s frequency can be modulated on a very large spectrum of frequency without overburdening the power supply. The result is a significant increase in precision (division of time) and performance (frequency accuracy and stability). The MIKROGIRDER energy performance will enable TAG Heuer chronographs to attain ultra-high frequencies

The statistics are nothing short of astounding: 1,000 Hz = 1/2000th = 5/10,000th of a second = 7,200,000 beats per hour. In comparison, a regular watch functions at 4hz, or only 28,800 beats per hour. The MIKROGIRDER is 250 times faster!

The MIKROGIRDER’s dual frequency system ensures precision and chronometry through 2 independent chains. As there is no possibility of interference between “normal speed” and “high speed”, there is better precision and accuracy. The power reserve is improved, too, and wear and tear dramatically reduced, as “high speed” is “on demand” instead of being always engaged. Finally, the dual frequency system offers the ultimate in readability.
The smallest fraction of time — 1/100th, 1/1,000th and _,000th (5/10,000) of a second — is displayed on a central hand that does a complete revolution around the dial a mind-boggling 20 times per second. Furthermore, and like the Mikrotimer Flying 1000, the dial display allows a quick and easy reading of the incredible measurement thanks to 3 scales, 2 external and one at 6 o’clock allowing to read 5/10,000 or 1/2,000ths of a second.

Blancpain - L-Evolution Chronograph Flyback Split Rattrapante

Blancpain - L-Evolution Chronograph Flyback Split  Rattrapante   NEW

The latest addition to the L-evolution collection features a flyback split-seconds chronograph mechanism and a large date. This watch, combining carbone fibre and cutting-edge technology, reflects Blancpain’s strong commitment in GT racing.

Having decided to adopt such an extreme attitude, Blancpain naturally chose carbon fibre in creating this timepiece. Its lightness and sturdiness, combined with its aesthetic appeal, provide a wealth of development options. This high-tech material was used to create certain watch components: the carbon fibre bezel, caseback and dial represent significant technical feats, reflecting Blancpain’s characteristic innovative strength.

To accentuate this sporting personality, the large date display features a digital font; red accents punctuate the black background; the 8 o’clock pusher echoes the shape of a fuel-cap; and the 9 o’clock counter that of an insignia.

At the heart of this new model beats Calibre 69F9 with its 409 parts including 44 jewels, ensuring a 40-hour power reserve. It is equipped with a column wheel that guarantees precise pusher control, as well as a vertical coupling-clutch that avoids any unwanted jerking of the hand when the chronograph is activated. This movement combines a flyback split-second chronograph mechanism with a large twin-aperture date display.

The split-second chronograph function is a major horological complication that enables readings of “split” or intermediate times thanks to a so-called split-second (rattrapante or “catch-up” in French) hand that is superimposed on the chronograph sweep seconds hand. When the split-second function is activated via the pusher at 8 o’clock, the hand stops to enable reading of a split time, while the sweep seconds hand continues running. A second press on the pusher enables the split-second hand to “catch up with” the sweep seconds hand. The flyback function, enabling reset and instant restart of the chronograph, is activated by pressing the pusher at 4 o’clock.

The sapphire crystal reveals fascinating glimpses of this movement with its unique decoration. Numerous stages were involved in achieving this result. The parts have been coated with a beadblasted two-tone material (5N red gold-plated or rhodiumed depending on the finish); while the straight graining on the NAC bridges features the anthracite appearance characteristic of this treatment.
The overstitched strap in black alcantara features carbon inserts reminiscent of the latest breakthrough developments in the field of racing cars, while the carbon folding clasp adds an ultimate touch of refined detailing.

ALPINA - Extreme DIVER

ALPINA - Extreme DIVER  NEW

Collection with William Baldwin as Brand Ambassador

ALPINA is pleased to announce actor, producer, and writer William Baldwin as the new face of its 2012 advertising campaign unveiling the latest model of the Diver Watches collection.

“We couldn’t be more confident in our choice for this campaign; William Baldwin not only represents the face of Alpina, he carries the spirit of the brand – generous, strong, and talented,” says Alpina’s CEO, Peter Stas.
“Associating myself with brands founded on solid corporate ethics with ambitious programs in place is paramount,” says Baldwin. “Alpina is exactly that brand and I’ve enjoyed working with them every step of the way.”
As Baldwin describes, “The new Alpina Extreme Diver is that ideal accessory which combines the elements of diving while delivering a bold, athletic, cool-factor that’s completely unrivalled.” The collection makes its debut at Baselworld in Switzerland March 8-15, 2012.

About William Baldwin

William Baldwin is an American actor, producer, and writer best known for his starring roles in Flatliners, Backdraft, Fair Game alongside Cindy Crawford, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Most recently, Baldwin appeared as Senator Patrick Darling in the TV drama Dirty Sexy Money and as a regular guest on the massively popular teen drama Gossip Girl. Baldwin is the brother of actors Alec, Daniel, and Stephen Baldwin, collectively known as The Baldwin Brothers.

 Alpina Extreme Diver Collection

Keeping time while diving requires very robust professional watches. There is a kind of beauty to the professional diver's watch that comes from the pure pleasure of engineering excellence. There is nothing superfluous about divers' watches, except of course the fact that they are engineered beyond the point of mere utility. After all, no human being is ever going to dive to depths beyond 300 meters. There is, however, a marvelous draw to the idea that you can go that deep, if you wanted, with the proper equipment.

To fully appreciate the Alpina Extreme Diver, the first thing to do is understand the requirements that define the professional diver's watch. In this regard, it is possible to define clear parameters and, without resorting to hyperbole, make the case for the true professional diver's watch. As a general rule, for any regular activities from snorkeling to scuba diving, a diver should always choose a watch with a water resistance rating of at least 200 meters. For the occasional swim, a watch resistant to 100 meters will do. The rationale behind the exceptional water resistance we recommend is that, in general, watches tend to perform differently in real-world situations than they do in the laboratories where they receive their certifications.

The Alpina Extreme Diver’s case is made of anti-corrosive materials, has a non-scratch crystal, and is outfitted with extendable wrist straps that can fit over a wet suit.

The bezel of the Alpina Extreme Diver is unidirectional, has luminous markers, and is used to set the maximum time a diver plans to be under water. Therefore, it is vital that the setting cannot be accidentally pushed or knocked off. Having it moved in only one direction means that time meant to be spent under can only be accidentally reduced, but not increased.

TUDOR - HERITAGE Black Bay

TUDOR - HERITAGE Black Bay NEW

The new TUDOR Heritage Black Bay is steeped in the mysterious aura of a hidden bay that gradually yields its secrets to those who venture there, a long-lost treasure returning to the light of day. It is the latest addition to the TUDOR Heritage collection launched in 2010 which is aimed at drawing together some of the brand’s emblematic models, inspired by its past and revisited. The Heritage Black Bay is a perfect embodiment of TUDOR’s vintage spirit.

The Heritage Black Bay model pays tribute to the company’s rich history, with a fresh interpretation of an old standard created in the 1950s that left a lasting mark on the history of divers’ watches.

TRIBUTE TO TUDOR’S VINTAGE SPIRIT

While it is a comprehensive response to today’s stylistic aspirations, the TUDOR Heritage Black Bay is inspired by a diving model that fi rst appeared in 1954 and continually evolved until the 1980s.

.

Its domed dial − an exquisite vintage detail − unusual burgundy red bezel and “snowfl ake” hands all helped build the reputation of this iconic model during a period that saw the emergence of the very fi rst divers’ watches.

The TUDOR Heritage Black Bay is inspired by the lines of the 1954 model, reworked and resized to result in a contemporary steel case with a diameter of 41 mm, waterproof to 200 metres (660 feet) and enhanced by a domed crystal.

The black dial, which is also elegantly domed, displays generous luminescent hour markers for perfect visibility. Like that of the hour markers, the pink gold of the hands represents a gentle hint of nostalgia, suggesting the characteristic patina of older timepieces. The burgundy red of the unidirectional rotatable bezel, an original feature exclusive to TUDOR – faithful to the original 1970s models – given a matt fi nish here, to beautiful the Bect.

As attention to detail is always important to TUDOR, a similar burgundy red accent appears on the insert of the crown, which is engraved with the TUDOR rose. Equipped with the new folding clasp developed by TUDOR, the TUDOR Heritage model is delivered with a black fabric strap and a steel bracelet, or with a black fabric strap and a second strap in exclusive aged leather: another original touch for an elegant, contemporary watch.

A TUDOR watch lives. Pulsates. It will take you into the world of micro-precision. The high technology in all components relentlessly tested right down to the smallest detail… to the point of obsession. Exceptional materials, durability and strength of design make each watch a unique object.
