HUBLOT – Classic Fusion Womanity

HUBLOTClassic Fusion Womanity Limited Edition NEW

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Womanity Foundation in its mission to empower women, Hublot launches a new Classic Fusion Womanity for Women

New York, New York, 16th June 2015 - Since 2007, Hublot has supported the Womanity Foundation (formerly the Smiling Children Foundation), an independent private organisation whose mission is to empower women and girls to shape their future and accelerate progress within their communities worldwide.

At the iconic Le Cirque restaurant in New York, the Foundation hosted a “Friends of Womanity USA” dinner and conversation on “Why Investing in Women is Important,” with speakers including Alvin Allgood, CEO, Vital Voices, Yann Borgstedt, Founder & Chairman, Womanity, Ben Rodriguez-Cubenas, Director Rockefeller Brothers Fund, as well as Diana Rowan Rockefeller, Founder & Chair Afghan Women Leaders Connect. Marissa Brooks, Senior Marketing Director at Hublot of America attended, as well as friends and supporters of the Foundation.

In honour of the occasion, and to continue its support for the Womanity Foundation, Hublot has created a sophisticated, exclusive limited edition watch featuring a touch of purple - Womanity's signature colour - as well as a unique bracelet design, inspired by the work of Brazilian graffiti artist Panmela Castro: the Classic Fusion Womanity for Women.

The small bracelet carefully takes individual cues from the large fresco painting Castro created live during the Official Closing Party hosted by Hublot at the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil, her home, last summer. The painting is dedicated to female freedom and creativity and signed by the King of Football and Hublot Ambassador, Pelé.

Artist activist and Founder of Rede Nami Feminista, an urban art network of female urban artists that addresses gender inequality through public art, graffiti and workshops in Rio, Castro’s social policy work provides the core inspiration for the content of her provocative paintings. Her work challenges patriarchal notions of public space as related to sexism, sexuality, subjectivity and power relations.

“We use art as a peaceful weapon and a cultural transformation tool to fight male chauvinism,” added the young 32 year old woman who was featured on Newsweek’s “150 Women Shaking the World” list in 2012.

Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, commented, “Womanity perfectly represents the modern woman and the women of today: leaders, creators, entrepreneurs and women who want to make a difference. This is the Hublot Woman! Over the years, since the beginning of our partnership in 2007, we have built a mutually trusting and appreciative relationship with Yann Borgstedt. Today, I am delighted to reinforce our partnership and continue to support equal opportunities for women, as well as their respect and freedom worldwide.”

ARNOLD & SON – Instrument Sir John Franklin Set Limited Edition

ARNOLD & SON Instrument Sir John Franklin Set 18-Carat Gold Limited Edition NEW

Instrument Collection
Sir John Franklin Set

A gripping tale and the mystery of the Arnold marine chronometer:
Arnold & Son unveils the Sir John Franklin Set of three fabulous
timepieces

The three watches in the John Franklin Set are the latest additions to the Instrument Collection and take as their subject three famous paintings from London’s National Maritime Museum. The timepieces, which feature a true-beat seconds and off-centre hour and minute hands, each depict an episode in the life of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, vessels that eventually perished in the course of Sir John Franklin’s ill-fated expedition to discover the North-West Passage in the mid-19th century.

To the British government, the North-West Passage had long been an obsession. It represented a shorter route to the Indies that would eliminate the need for rounding Cape Horn and avoid meetings with the hostile fleets of other European nations.

 Sir John Franklin

And although its mythical status as a faster route to the East had evaporated by the mid-19th century, it was still one of the last uncharted coastlines of the world. In 1845, Sir John Franklin set out on his third expedition to the area in HMS Erebus, accompanied by HMS Terror. After being sighted by whalers in mid-summer, the two ships disappeared. Over forty expeditions set out to locate and rescue them but found only remnants of the expedition.

The mother-of-pearl dials of the three models in the Sir John Franklin Set each feature an exquisite, hand-finished miniature reproduction of an original oil painting owned by the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London. The first, “Friendly Encounter”, shows HMS Erebus and HMS Terror in New Zealand in about 1840, when the crew had a series of peaceful meetings with the local Maori population.

In the second, “Antarctic Adventure”, we see the two vessels navigating storm-tossed seas in the inhospitable environment at the southern tip of the world.

The third, “North-West Passage”, depicts HMS Erebus surrounded by icebergs but still in open water.

We know now that both ships were subsequently trapped by the ice and abandoned by their crews, who perished. A later expedition established that Sir John Franklin died on 11 June 1847.

For his third and final expedition to the waters north of Canada, Sir John Franklin had with him a marine chronometer made by John Roger Arnold in around 1815 with an eight-day movement, Arnold spring detent escapement and balance. As later became clear, it was one of several items recovered during searches for the Franklin expedition but was not handed over to the authorities. Only more than a century later did it reappear on the market, when it was purchased by the Friends of the National Maritime Museum.

It was immediately clear that Arnold’s marine chronometer had been modified while missing and converted into a travelling timepiece. It was still mounted in the original bowl, to which a handle and four feet had been added. The engraved, silver-plated brass dial showed signs of alteration to the signature around the name ‘Arnold’.

The three references in the Sir John Franklin Set are fitted with the A&S6103 automatic movement developed, designed and manufactured in-house at the Arnold & Son workshops in La Chaux de Fonds. The A&S6103 movement is rhodium treated with classic Haute Horlogerie finishing that includes hand-chamfered bridges and polished edges, fine circular-graining and Côtes de Genève rayonnantes, a brushed and skeletonised rotor and blued screws. It is housed in an 18-carat rose gold case measuring 44 millimetres in diameter

The magnificent Sir John Franklin Set of three timepieces is destined to become a much sought after collector’s item and is a limited edition of 28 sets.

LAURENT FERRIER – GALET SQUARE – ONLY WATCH 2015

LAURENT FERRIERGALET SQUARE ONLY WATCH 2015 NEW

LAURENT FERRIER RENEWS ITS COMMITMENT TO
ONLY WATCH 2015

Only Watch, the major charity event for aficionados and collectors of fine watches, will take place on November 7th 2015. Under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, Honorary President of the Cercle de l’Horlogerie de Monaco, this exhibition and auction will present creations from some 40 of the most prestigious watch companies, including a model developed for this special occasion by Laurent Ferrier.

For the third consecutive time, Laurent Ferrier has decided to support research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Only Watch 2015, orchestrated by Philipps Bacs & Russo, brings together the greatest watch names that generously donate a dedicated timepiece. A travelling exhibition will present in this collection in Monaco, Hong Kong, Beijing, New York and London. To conclude the event, the traditional auction will take place for the first time in Geneva, on November 7th. The sum raised during this evening is entirely destined for medical research. Once again, Laurent Ferrier has risen to this challenge by creating a watch issued in a one-off edition that should delight connoisseurs.

Only Watch 2015: an original edition of the Galet Square

In keeping with the spirit of Only Watch, Laurent Ferrier is once again demonstrating its commitment to research. For this 2015 edition, it has chosen to offer an unprecedented version of its latest model, the Galet Square. Powered by the micro-rotor movement with “échappement naturel”, this steel Galet Square propose a two-tone silvered sector dial typical of the late 1930s and unique lugs specially created for the occasion.

A distinctive dial

Laurent Ferrier offers a new composition of space on this exceptional dial, while respecting the aesthetic codes of its collection. The harmonious division between an outer circle with a circular satin-brushed finish and a central zone with a vertical satin-brushed finish lends the dial a unique variety of shades and textures. This association already introduced by Laurent Ferrier is given a new interpretation here. The space is marked out by a slender and delicately accentuated transferred circle featuring curved markers paying a distinctive nod to the brand’s iconic drop-shaped hour-markers.

The small seconds echoes the central theme, thereby endowing this model with a perfect equilibrium entirely respectful of the pure lines and the principles of readability cherished by Laurent Ferrier. The singularity of the dial is reinforced by the “Only Watch 2015” inscription appearing in the spot traditionally reserved for the word “Swiss”, while the “assegai-shaped” gold hours and minutes along with the baton-type seconds hand set the perfect finishing touches.
A unique case

The Galet Square case, presented at Baselworld 2015, picks up the essential characteristics of the original Galet. It originated as a square and is now tending towards a cushion-type shape. The curve of the steel case reflects the restrained aesthetic codes adopted by Laurent Ferrier. With its perfectly balanced 41 x 41 mm proportions, the Galet Square is designed to assert a stronger presence on the wrist than its inspirational predecessors.

To highlight the unique nature of this model created specifically for Only Watch, Laurent Ferrier is revisiting its lugs for the first time and introducing a a straight version of them enriched with gold half spheres.
The timepiece is fitted with a ball-shaped winding-crown ensuring smooth and pleasant handling. The snap-on case-back means the movement is easily accessible by a watchmaker via the olivette. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 metres.
Once again, Laurent Ferrier testifies to its determination and its ability to create models imbued with a pure aesthetic while also giving a preference to “bespoke” interpretations for unique occasions.

A tried and trusted movement

This watch is driven by the same self-winding FBN Calibre 229.01 equipped with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and guaranteeing a three-day power reserve.

This is the third exclusive in-house movement developed, assembled and adjusted in the Laurent Ferrier workshops. It comprises a silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....                 BIG FOTO

This innovation developed by Laurent Ferrier gives two impulses to the balance per oscillation, a system requiring two escape-wheels and a specially designed lever. This modern construction, combined with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises the resulting energy.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....                 BIG FOTO

The excellent efficiency of this escapement guarantees a high amplitude of the balance. Less mechanical force is required to wind the barrel spring, thereby optimising movement.

Through this creation, Laurent Ferrier offers its contemporary take on a legendary theme from the late 1930s.

Ulysse Nardin – Classico Lady Luna

Ulysse NardinClassico Luna Lady Moon Phase NEW

Honoring the moon’s majesty is the Classico Lady Luna. Moon’s lure has affected and fascinated the natural world for millenniums.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

A traditionally styled timepiece, the Classico Luna draws inspiration from the moon in a different way. Similar in principle to the limited-edition Moonstruck’s indication of the moon’s phases and based on a development with Ludwig Oechslin DNA, the Classico Luna precisely depicts the moon’s rotation in a realistic representation.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

The moon reflects the light of the sun as it rotates clockwise around the earth, and the Classico Luna depicts its angle of illumination as its moon rotates around the center of the timepiece – a portrayal of earth – making one rotation in 12 hours. In its speed to fulfill its moon phase circle in 29.5 days, the color of the moon phase disc will change, increasing and decreasing as the moon wanes or waxes.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

A self-winding watch, the Classico Luna makes reading the moon’s phases simple. The moon phase is set over a corrector at the 4 to 5 o’clock position. Classic and slim dress watch, the mother-of-pearl dial features straight indexes as well as an hour hand representing the sun. The Classico Lady Luna is expressive, honoring the moon’s powerfully feminine mystique through its glamorous aesthetic, particularly when set with diamonds on the aventurine disc of the dial and on the bezel.
