A new limited edition for the discerning world traveler

The peacock is a bird that has inspired many ideas and myths throughout history. The ancients believed that peacocks symbolized immortality, while other cultures have seen renewal and even the ability to be all-seeing in this beautiful bird. All over the world, the peacock continues to intrigue and fascinate mankind. Once seen, a peacock’s plumage is never forgotten and its beauty is universally acknowledged.

The dial of the latest Grand Seiko Hi-beat 36000 captures this beauty. With its deep green color and stamped pattern, the dial is at once striking and yet subtle. The case and movement are the same as in the celebrated watch that won the "Petite Aiguille” award prize at the Grand Prix de Genève in 2014.The hi-beat GMT movement 9S86 is assembled in the Shizukuishi Watch Studio where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are manufactured and assembled, by hand, by the studio’s craftsmen and women.

In both performance and appearance, it expresses the very best of Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking. The caliber has a high accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds a day and a power reserve of 55 hours. The GMT hand can be used as a dual time indicator with the hour hand being adjustable independently as the time of day hands continue to mark time. It is the perfect watch for the international traveler.

The case is a contemporary re-interpretation of the acclaimed 44GS design from 1967 that set the Grand Seiko style. Like every Grand Seiko watch, it offers highly polished, distortion-free surfaces, razor edged hands for high legibility and perfect comfort on the wrist.

The distortion-free surfaces are achieved with Zaratsu polishing, a technique that requires the greatest skill and hand craftsmanship

PANERAI – LUMINOR 1950 Oracle Team USA Chrono Flyback CERAMICA 44

OFFICINE PANERAI PAM00725  LUMINOR 1950 Oracle Team USA Chrono Flyback Automatic CERAMICA – 44mm Edition

35TH AMERICA’S CUP OFFICIAL PARTNER

OFFICINE PANERAI PRESENTS THE OFFICIAL WATCHES OF THE 35TH AMERICA’S CUP. A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN LEGENDS OF THE SEA, A PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN THE PAST AND FUTURE, BETWEEN TIMELESS PASSION AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY.

Officine Panerai is an Official Partner of the 35th America’s Cup, the most celebrated and prestigious sailing race in the world, first held off the south coast of England in 1851. The America’s Cup has borne witness to some of the most thrilling challenges in the history of sailing, including one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sport in the last edition, when ORACLE TEAM USA won eight consecutive races to win the Cup for the second time.

The 2017 America’s Cup, to be hosted in Bermuda, is sure to be an exceptional contest involving extreme athleticism, courage, passion and skills, as well as the most advanced technology in the sport. The new America’s Cup Class foiling catamarans are expected to reach speeds over 90 km/h, raising the bar on extreme performance.

The partnership between Panerai and the America’s Cup is an example of this shared awareness, of this perfect balance between the past and the future.

Panerai pays its respects to ORACLE TEAM USA, Defender of the 2017 America’s Cup, Panerai has created the special edition Luminor 1950 ORACLE TEAM USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic CERAMICA, an automatic chronograph with a power reserve of three days, fitted with the Regatta countdown mechanism. This is a new model of an instrument with sophisticated technical solutions, designed to be worn by sailing enthusiasts, and its design is inspired by the colours of ORACLE TEAM USA: black, red, white and blue.

The Regatta countdown function is remarkably simple to use, reflecting the excellence of the technical innovation within the P.9100 automatic chronograph calibre used in the Luminor 1950 ORACLE TEAM USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic. When the chronograph is started, by operating the start/stop push-piece at 10 o’clock, the relative hands start to move, initially indicating the minutes and seconds remaining before the start and, once the countdown is finished, the time elapsed from the start of the race.

The push-piece at 9 o’clock returns all the chronograph hands to zero or, if it is pressed when the hands are already moving, it operates the return-to-zero (flyback) function, thus enabling a new time interval to be started immediately without carrying out the stop and reset operations. The black dial of the Luminor 1950 ORACLE TEAM USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic has the sandwich structure and the classic Panerai design with its large linear markers and figures, enhanced by the elements which enable the indications of the chronograph functions to be read.

The chronograph hands are central and distinguished by different easily recognisable colours, while the red hand indicating the hours rotates in the small dial at 3 o’clock, symmetrical with the small seconds dial with a blue hand. On the flange are the 15-minute scale of the count-down counter, with the last ten minutes marked in blue and red, and also the tachymeter scale in knots which enables the speed of the yacht to be measured over a predetermined distance.

The P.9100 calibre is the first automatic movement with chronograph functions developed by Officine Panerai and it is produced entirely in the Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel, with materials and standards of workmanship at the peak of the sector in terms of technology, quality and reliability. With a chronograph with a vertical clutch and column wheel, the new calibre is unusual in that the chronograph minutes are displayed by a central hand which jumps forward once every 60 seconds. It also has the useful flyback function. This enables the chronograph hands which are already running to be returned instantaneously to zero and restarted without first having to stop them, return them to zero and then restart them. This function is controlled by the push-button at eight o’clock, which is also used to return both hands to zero when the chronograph has already stopped.

The P.9100 calibre is 13¾ lignes it has 37 jewels and consists of 302 components.  The two spring barrels in series give a power reserve of 72 hours. The choice of the double spring barrel enables thinner, longer springs to be used, which is beneficial for the duration and evenness of the supply of energy. The automatic winding is carried out by a bidirectional rotor on ball-bearings operating two narrow arms terminating with hooks, which wind the springs of the barrels with every movement of the rotor itself.

Supported by a single bridge with a KIF Parechoc® anti-shock device, the Glucydur® balance wheel oscillates at 28,800 vibrations/hour (equivalent to 4hz)and it is the variable inertia type, with the regulation carried out by adjusting four square-headed screws fitted in the outer perimeter of the balance wheel; the spring is therefore free, without the curb pins which can be a source of irregular timekeeping.

Water-resistant to 10 atmospheres (100 metres), as is appropriate for an advanced instrument for professional sailors, there are only 200 units of the Luminor 1950 ORACLE TEAM USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic (PAM00725).

The titanium back is screwed in place and it carries the logo ORACLE TEAM USA, the inscription 35TH AMERICA’S CUP and a drawing of the legendary trimaran of the defending team in relief.

It is supplied with a black strap of natural untreated leather, personalised to express the spirit of the America’s Cup: as well as having the logo of the competition heat-embossed on both sides, it is finished with double sewing in contrasting blue and red threads.
