A boldly designed piece, combining a largely openworked case, an ingenious crown system, and an in-house developed movement, brought to life by a tri-axial tourbillon offering an open and three-dimensional view of the mechanics.
An open vision of the tri-axial tourbillon
Franck Muller presents the Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton and highlights a new interpretation of its expertise in watchmaking complications. This new masterpiece follows in the lineage of the manufacture’s most technical creations and offers an open view of the iconic tri-axial tourbillon, where the design of the case and the movement are closely intertwined to showcase the mechanics, with the case acting as a true frame around the movement.

Franck Muller revolutionized the watchmaking industry by creating the world’s very first tri-axial tourbillon. This remarkable complication is the result of one of the most complex achievements in haute horlogerie.
A fully openworked case
The Aero concept is expressed through an openworked construction designed to reveal the mechanics and display the movement from multiple angles. The case, crafted in rose gold and measuring 43.90 mm in width and 52.10 mm in length, has been opened on all four sides to make the movement fully visible.

The sides have been refined to reduce material to the strict minimum while maintaining the rigidity of the case. This achievement is made even more complex by the characteristic curved shape of the Vanguard case, whose contours require great precision in machining and assembling the components.
An in-house developed movement
At the heart of the watch lies the MVT 2031-VS movement, a manufacture caliber developed in-house by Franck Muller and carefully assembled from 280 components. Designed to integrate into this openworked construction, it adopts a skeletonized structure that highlights the main mechanical components.

The movement is mounted directly onto the caseback, a first for Franck Muller, a configuration that required rethinking the arrangement of bridges, barrels, and the gear train to ensure overall stability while maintaining a wide visual openness.
A crown integrated into an open construction
This work on the case also led to the development of a specific system for the crown. The crown design represented a significant challenge, particularly in terms of water resistance, which was resolved through a set of specially developed mechanical components that protect the movement while integrating into this largely openworked construction.

Removing the crown presented a second challenge and is achieved via a corrector integrated into the caseback crystal, a solution that preserves the openness of the case while ensuring access to the functional elements of the movement.
Three axes of rotation and a 10-day power reserve
The Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton is powered by a tri-axial tourbillon composed of three concentric cages. The inner cage completes a full rotation in 60 seconds, the intermediate cage in eight minutes, while the outer cage completes a full rotation in one hour.

By multiplying the positions of the balance wheel in space, this system corrects the effects of gravity in all positions, unlike a conventional tourbillon which compensates for these effects only when the watch is in a vertical position, thereby contributing to exceptional chronometric precision. The energy required to operate this mechanism is provided by two barrels, ensuring a 10-day power reserve while sustaining the continuous rotation of the tourbillon’s three axes.
A construction designed to reveal the mechanics
With the Vanguard Aero Revolution 3 Skeleton, Franck Muller brings together open architecture, a manufacture movement, and a three-dimensional complication in a piece where the construction of the case and the caliber are closely interlinked.

Integrated Strap
Instead of the traditional spring-bar technique, this strap is seamlessly integrated into the case using two unseen screws, creating a smooth transition between the strap and the case. It is further enhanced by meticulous stitching along its edges, contributing to both its durability and refined appearance.
