Enamel lives
Scarcely any other material confers a dial of a fine watch into a persuasive and charming character. Since the establishment LANG & HEYNE works with real fired white enamel. Since 2005 the moon and earth plates of model "Moritz" are produced in-house. Why resting and not trying their skills at a complete dial?

A trinket box with starry sky from the 18th century inspired Marco Lang to design the colourful dial. The five pointed star as secular and intercultural sign was very popular amongst the Freemasons. The five edges represent the virtues wisdom, justice, fortitude, temperance und diligence. The star is present on many flags all over the world, e.g. on a cobalt blue background on the flag of the European Union.

For the champlevé technique the surface is carved out to form pits in which enamel is fired, leaving the original metal exposed. The plate at LANG & HEYNE for the blue enamel is of solid silver. 18 ct rose gold for enamel in reddish colouration is also possible. Using translucent enamel gives an exceptional depth and enables to look to the ground where extravagant hand engravings executed in perfection become visible.

Champlevé technique very briefly: Several processes of pickling and enamelling followed by grinding flat the whole dial. One final glaze bake seals the enamel. The deeper allocated second plate is manufactured separately and will be inserted in the main plate.
