The term “flying” tourbillon gains new meaning as the lower section of the dial opens up, offering a unique perspective. Peer through the dial, past the tourbillon cage, and capture a lateral glimpse into the heart of the tourbillon. The rehaut functions as a mirror, enabling enthusiasts to scrutinize the intricate mechanics and finesse of the tourbillon.

This “flying” one-minute tourbillon, inspired by Alfred Helwig’s design, boasts exceptional craftsmanship. Modifications include improving the shockproof spring and anchor components, aiming to enhance precision.

The anchor, now comprising two bodies, enables finer adjustments, while the redesigned shockproof spring ensures easier mounting without the risk of damage.

Complementing these improvements, a newly crafted steel bridge provides a sturdy platform for the tourbillon’s intricate and captivating performance, highlighting our dedication to innovation and precision in horological craftsmanship. The architecture of the movement now offers a more pleasing aesthetic, effectively illustrating the mechanical operation in a manual winding movement.

DIAL INNOVATION

The outstanding feature of this exclusive edition lies in its fascinating dial. Precision-crafted in our facility, a black ceramic dial elegantly adorns a dark grey, givre-finished base plate. The highly polished disc made of black zirconium oxide ceramic carries laser-engraved scales and numerals lined with Berlac lacquer. Pike hands filled with HyCeram gently glide over the surface to ensure clear readability.

The sparkling diamond endstone crowning the remaining Calibers is continued with two chatoned diamonds next to the logo engraving - virtually as double coronation for the new masterpiece of the LANG & HEYNE watchmakers.

Not only this quite contemporary extravagance makes him a personality with edges and corners - thus an ideal namesake for the first form watch of the manufacture LANG & HEYNE.

As LANG & HEYNE feels connected to Saxon watchmaking and heritage every watch model is named after a prominent ruler of Saxony.
King ANTON (*27.12.1755 ‘♰' 6.6.1836) as fifth-born, who was passionate about music and genealogie, was not destined to govern. In fact he wanted to become a clergyman, but eventually took over the throne of his deceased brother as a middle-aged man.

During difficult revolutionary times around 1830 in Saxony he acted with cautiousness, tolerance and understanding. Thus the people called him „the Kind".

It is the first time in its history; LANG & HEYNE has developed and manufactured an unique timepiece in collaboration with PHILLIPS and long-term partner THE LAVISH ATTIC.

The year of 2022 celebrates the 9 years of partnership between THE LAVISH ATTIC and LANG & HEYNE.

Based on the same Calibre VI-I, limited edition of 9 pieces Friedrich II Remontoir The Lavish Attic Edition is proudly launched and opened for pre-order.

1. The first-ever black enamel dial, made in a different way

The face of the Friedrich II Remontoir is created by a two-part enamel dial. A new state-of-the-art technology gives the possibility to cut massive enamel in slices.

Thus, the idea was born to fix two of these discs on a metal support, thus obtaining an enamel dial with a lower small second.

Since the highly polished discs cannot be burned again, they are printed with high-quality varnish and the indexes are hand-lined with superluminova.

The lancet hands indicate the time extremely accurate and are easy to read even by night thanks to their superluminova filling.

2.The first-ever Remontoir found in small second

Underneath the dial a newly developed Remontoir movement, the calibre Cal. VI-I. is responsible for the accurate display of the time. It is equipped with a complicated mechanism to improve accuracy, the Remontoir.

This so-called “constant force mechanism” compensates for the decreasing force of the tension spring. Its energy tensions a storage spring every five semi-oscillations, which constantly transmits its power to the escapement.

This keeps the amplitude of the balance wheel constant throughout the day, minimizing rate fluctuations.

The Remontoir of Cal. VI-I is located on the escape wheel and is responsible for the jump of the small second hand every second and fulfills its function at least for 24 hours.

3.The first-ever movement made of titanium

Underneath the dial a newly developed Remontoir movement, the caliber LANG & HEYNE Cal. VI-I, is responsible for the accurate display of the time. Through the sapphire glass case back it is obvious, that the main parts of the movement were manufactured of an entire new material – titanium. Commonly used for manufacturing cases, it has found its way into an unusual use.

The use of titanium has presented entirely new challenges to the master watchmakers of LANG & HEYNE. In order to meet the very high demands on the quality of the technology but also on the aesthetics, it was necessary to adapt and modify traditional skills and processes.

Medium-hard titanium of purity grade 2 is used to manufacture the movement plate, gear bridge, lever bridge and balance cock. To create a matte sheen, the graining is achieved by blasting with ceramic beads which, unlike glass beads, do not shatter when they hit the material.

For brass frame parts, the polished chamfers are then pressed on with the smoothing steel. This is not possible with titanium. It has unfavorable friction behavior, which would cause the spinning tool to leave cracks. So here the chamfers have to be polished very laboriously with wood and polishing paste.

The poor behavior under friction also forces a different design for the bearings of all parts that were previously supported in the brass of the plate. Thus, separate bronze bearings are used for the barrel and winding stem.

All other assembly steps can be performed in the same way as with conventional plates, line grindings are easily feasible and hand engravings are also possible. Thus, the balance cock also retains its beautiful classic design. Technically, titanium offers greater strength and corrosion resistance, making it an interesting asset to the movement.

For aesthetic reasons, the otherwise blue annealed screws were replaced with purple ones to match the warm gray of the titanium.

The Lang & Heyne Georg SHH Special Edition is the first in the line to leverage a unique ceramic dial that is set against a royal blue givree-finished silvered baseplate. The watch is signed by a hand-engraved "One of 12" on the movement.

The Lang & Heyne Georg SHH Special Edition "One of 12" will be available from September 7 onwards at the Sincere Haute Horlogerie salon at Marina Bay Sands Singapore.

THE UNIQUE CERAMIC DIAL

Ceramic dials are made possible due to their pressure-resistant and low specific density characteristics, making them a more complex and durable material than take, for example, enamel.

Combining the silvered main plate with the ceramic reflects our design intention.

The main plate is givree sandblasted and coloured in royal blue using the galvanic process. To make the raw ceramic discs, they first have to be engraved and then cut out with the help of a laser.

This process is a time-consuming one as the edges have to be as clean as possible. 

 Click, to see the large size. ▶ BIG FOTOOne can realize the very fine engraving of up to 0.05mm line width when up close. The dials are made to fit precisely into the base plate's corresponding recess by having the outer contours sanded.

The edges are provided with chamfers which are then also polished, giving the dial a nice, three-dimensional look.

The ceramic's primary material, aluminum oxide, is the same as sapphire, which explains why it can only be processed with diamond tools and diamond pastes.

 Click, to see the large size. ▶ BIG FOTOThe use of high-quality printing ink, known as "Berlac Print," when laying out the engraving by hand allows various colors to be realized on the dial. The dial is then grounded and polished flat on a wooden disc to achieve a high gloss end product.
