The watchmaking expertise of the Manufacture, combined with Peter Speake’s vision, unfolds through a multi-level dial construction conceived to enhance depth and create a subtle floating effect through shaped sapphire crystal. The Prussian blue lancine hands, the house’s signature, indicate the hours and minutes with perfectly balanced proportions.  

Following the success of its inaugural SYNERGY creations, Schwarz Etienne introduces a new chapter in collaborative watchmaking: the 1902 SYNERGY by Peter Speake. This limited edition embodies the Maison’s philosophy of co-authorship, establishing a true dialogue between two distinct horological identities.

At its core, SYNERGY is about uniting cultures, craftsmanship, and creative perspectives into a single timepiece. For this edition, Peter Speake was invited to reinterpret the Manufacture’s 1902 Réserve de Marche, infusing it with his unmistakable design language while remaining faithful to the technical and aesthetic DNA of Schwarz Etienne.

A DIAL DEFINED BY DEPTH AND LIGHT

The 1902 SYNERGY immediately distinguishes itself through its intricate, multi-layered dial architecture. Structured sapphire crystal elements, some as thin as 0.35 mm, create a sense of depth, giving the illusion of a floating composition.

Building on this sense of depth, an interplay of matte white lacquer, polished finishes and Prussian blue accents shapes the watch’s visual identity. Applied indices, lancine-style hands and a finely executed chemin de fer, punctuated with subtle Cayenne orange accents, introduce rhythm and contrast, while layered sapphire elements capture and diffuse light.

The upper quadrant houses a power reserve indicator with azurage finishing, animated by a serpentine hand, a signature detail of Speake’s work. At the center, a transparent sapphire plate carries the Manufacture’s name in three-dimensional form, revealing beneath it a small seconds display integrated into the base dial.

At the centre of the dial, a further pane of transparent sapphire crystal plays host to the manufacture’s name, rendered in three-dimensional Prussian blue text. Executed with extreme precision, the machining allows millimetre‑perfect drillings, ensuring the polished and blued logo is mounted flawlessly.

The upper-right quadrant features a power reserve indicator, composed of an ice-white semi-circular section with azurage decoration, bordered by a Prussian blue and ice-white track. Close examination of this track reveals a discreet signature, almost hidden in plain sight. From there, the blue serpentine hand begins its journey, indicating the energy stored within the twin barrels and echoing a signature element of Peter’s work.

EXCELLENCE, INSIDE AND OUT 

Inspired by historic pocket watch movements, the calibre MSE 311.00 is a hand-wound movement with a distinctive six‑bridge design. As part of the SYNERGY collection, this exclusive piece is distinguished by an intense Prussian blue, dear to Peter Speake. Its ratchet wheels feature high‑definition engravings, filled by hand with blue lacquer:

The movement’s finishing reflects the highest standards of traditional watchmaking. Geneva stripes angled at 45°, polished bevels, sandblasted and rhodium-plated surfaces define its aesthetic, while engraved ratchet wheels are filled with blue lacquer. Limited to just 88 pieces, the edition subtly references the number 8 as a symbol of prosperity and balance.

Every detail of the 1902 SYNERGY by Peter Speake demonstrates an unwavering pursuit of perfection. For instance, the mainplate is finely sandblasted and rhodium-plated, while the ratchets feature a subtle sunburst decoration and chamfered teeth. In addition, the six bridges are enhanced with straight Geneva stripes angled at 45°, featuring polished bevels and concave jewel sinks, heightening the overall sense of refinement.

Housed in a 39 mm case crafted from Grade 5 titanium, the 1902 SYNERGY balances elegance with modernity. Lightweight, hypoallergenic, and corrosion-resistant, the case features polished surfaces contrasted by satin-finished lugs. A blue textured strap with rubber lining completes the piece, reinforcing both comfort and visual coherence. “Unique edition of 88 pieces” and “Synergy by Peter Speake”. Schwarz Etienne, the Swiss Manufacture, is pleased to unveil its inaugural ladies’ timepiece. This is not an adaptation of an existing man’s watch but a wholly new model. Quite simply, the FIJI Floral Seconds has been designed by a woman for a woman.

The FIJI Floral Seconds is endowed with an automatic movement, the calibre ASE 200.00, featuring a micro-rotor. Schwarz Etienne is famous for its modular movement design. The architecture of its movements facilitates the simple adaptation of an automatic movement into a hand-wound calibre and vice versa. The benefit of this modularity is that it confers greater customer choice.

Research has shown that many women are increasingly drawn to the allure of a mechanical watch. The calibre ASE 200.00 is a self-winding movement requiring minimal wearer-input. When the watch is removed from the wrist it will continue to run autonomously for up to 86 hours. Schwarz Etienne is synonymous with high-end finishing and the calibre ASE 200.00 perpetuates this reputation. Its bridges are adorned with a sunray decoration, while the balance bridge is embellished with a guilloché motif.

The 38mm case of the FIJI Floral Seconds upholds the company’s reputation for modularity. The three-part case (bezel, caseband and caseback) forms a capsule which is mounted within a separate cradle. This latter component, which incorporates the lugs, affi xes to the capsule with four screws in steadfast union. By adopting this innovative construction method, Schwarz Etienne is able to combine differently styled parts, providing the company with incredible creative freedom.

Creativity and craftsmanship are at the heart of the FIJI Floral Seconds. The watch is available in two dial colours, black or pale salmon. Graceful hour and minute hands fl oat above the central dial area, embellished with a tone on tone fl oral motif. The hour track features drop-shape indexes save for 12 o’clock where curvaceous Arabic numerals indicate the hour. An oversized index is positioned at 6 o’clock, emanating from the centre of an animated fl oral display. This feature consists of an openworked lattice sat atop a rotating disc, providing a mesmerising depiction of life in motion.

The crown is generously proportioned and features a diamond on its vertical fl ank. It is this combination of practicality and beauty which pervades the watch. The caseback incorporates a pane of sapphire crystal, allowing the wearer to appreciate the Swiss craftsmanship beating within.

The FIJI Floral Seconds is supplied with two coordinating straps. The black dial version comes with a black strap as well as a ruby-red strap, while the pale salmon dial is paired with both light blue and brown straps. All straps incorporate a silver-grey lining and are paired with a Schwarz Etienne branded steel folding clasp. Ingeniously, the straps can be readily exchanged without the need for tools.

Schwarz Etienne X Les Ateliers Blandenier – The Roma Phoenix Collaboration – Unique Piece

The project was conceived and directed by The Naked Watchmaker.

Schwarz Etienne has collaborated with Les Ateliers Blandenier to create the Roma Phoenix unique piece.

This unique timepiece highlights the watchmaking process of Schwarz Etienne and artisanal skills of Les Ateliers Blandenier. The goal of the project is to integrate multiple skills into the making of a unique ‘Art-piece’ and to present them on The Naked Watchmaker platform in order to both share the complexity of the project and the time and people involved within such an undertaking.

The watch can be split into two parts, each containing multiple steps: The watch itself and the process of decoration of components and their assembly, the second part, the dial making section.

Multiple artisanal techniques that individually carry historical value combined can result in unusual effects. The depth of the blue enamel sky was selected to generate a contrasting back-drop for the applied Phoenix positioned above the pyrite seconds disc, making it appear to be suspended in the sky.

The base of the dial is made in 18ct gold and filled with enamel, the smokey blue and white effect of the enamelling is to generate the impression of a blue sky. The gold Phoenix is hand engraved and then lacquered, The Phoenix then links to the quote around the dial, “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” –– Confucius. The small seconds subsidiary dial is set with pyrite stone, the name of the stone originates from the Greek “pyr” meaning fire.

Step one was to define the design upon which the dial would be made. The base plate was made in 18k gold. To be enamelled it required having sufficient space on both sides to have enamel added to assure equivalent tensions within the dial.

Once the base-plate is finished the enamelling can be added. The sky effect for the dial was married in colour to the hands, but to ensure the association in shades was correct the enameller made multiple trials with enamel powders that were heated in an oven (600 degrees Celsius) to ensure the final choice was correct.

The plate of red gold used to make the Phoenix could be precisely cut out by wire erosion prior to being hand-engraved. This engraving work took about 3 weeks to complete. After the engraving was complete, an acrylic painting was made on the surface to add a patina of age and increase the three dimensional effect. Without this final step much of the detail of the engraving can in essence be lost, washed out by uniformity of the material colour. Only the beak and claws have been polished.

The off-set small seconds disc was made from pyrite. Cubes of pyrite were machined to identify the one that most resembled the original design.

Schwarz Etienne supplied the watch for the dial, a 42 mm Roma case in 18k red gold, and integrated a hand-finished ASE 100.00 in-house automatic calibre with micro-rotor. The selection of the Schwarz Etienne ‘Roma’ case was made in order to have a classic understated design that would highlight the aesthetics of the dial and movement.

The ASE 100.00 automatic movement features 230 components, including 38 jewels. The balance has a frequency of 21,600 VpH (3Hz) and, assuming the watch is fully wound, the movement will run autonomously for up to 86 hours. Unlike a movement fitted with a conventional oscillating weight, there is nothing to obstruct the view of the beautifully decorated bridges and various other components.

THIS WATCH HARNESSES MUCH MECHANICAL KNOW-HOW, IN-HOUSE EXPERTISE AND CUTTING-EDGE, CONTEMPORARY STYLING.

In 2015, Schwarz Etienne released its inaugural Roswell timepiece, a watch defined by rounded contours coupled with sharply defined edges. The silhouette of this watch was inspired by the shape of a flying saucer and is a graceful reference to its inspiration, the Roswell mystery.

While the source of the Roswell’s nomenclature is a mysterious alien phenomenon, there is no mystery to the various mechanisms at work on this fascinating timepiece. Its date mechanism is presented in a new light and profoundly revisited. Its architecture plays on volumes, contrasting materials and colours. Each of its components comes in perfectly finished steel, standing out from the dark and uniform finish of the movement, including the micro-rotor. Column wheels, jumper, springs, and levers are freely disclosed.

A crescent-shaped aperture at 2 o’clock reveals the prevailing date while at 11 o’clock a subtle second’s display resides. A fundamental aspect of the dial’s design is the exposure of the balance. The gleaming balance cock sits adjacent the unique balance wheel, incorporating the Schwarz Etienne logo. The hours and minutes are imparted using elegant Alpha-type hands.

The self-winding micro-rotor movement ISE 100.11, an evolution of the ISE 100.00, features a balance and hairspring fully developed and manufactured in collaboration with E20 Innovations, a sister company of Schwarz Etienne. The ISE 100.11 is an inverted movement with the regulator and micro-rotor positioned on the dial side of the calibre. The movement possesses a power reserve of 86 hours and is exquisitely finished with impeccable attention to detail.

This exceptional timepiece is housed within an unashamedly masculine stainless-steel case, measuring 45mm in diameter. The knurled crown is shrouded by a special guard, whose lower part of which acts as a push-button for the rapid correction of the date. The Roswell Date is offered on a tobacco calfskin strap featuring a bright orange or pistachio green calfskin lining.
