A LITTLE MORE OF THE SMOKED SALMON, PERHAPS?

H. MOSER & CIE. PRESENTS THE STREAMLINER PERPETUAL CALENDAR CONCEPT SMOKED SALMON: A STYLE AND AN EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE FOR ONE (LEAP) YEAR ONLY

Four hands in the centre, a big date and a power reserve indicator, all displayed on the extraordinary Smoked Salmon dial. Presenting H. Moser & Cie.'s latest creation: the Streamliner Perpetual Calendar Concept Smoked Salmon. This is a supremely pared-down model, devoid of boring sub-dials, indexes or logos. Simple in appearance yet utterly ingenious, it focuses exclusively on the essentials. Exploiting the interplay of contrasts, it disrupts the vintage spirit of the Smoked Salmon colour by contrasting it with a boldly modernist minimalism to achieve the perfect balance. This special edition watch will be available for 12 months only.

In 2005, H. Moser & Cie. marked its return to Haute Horlogerie by revolutionising the perpetual calendar with the Perpetual 1. For Watches & Wonders Geneva, the Manufacture is revisiting this famous instantaneous date-change movement in a version featuring four hands in the centre, including a direct seconds hand, and associating it with its Streamliner collection.

A fusion of two icons, the Streamliner Perpetual Calendar Concept Smoked Salmon is equipped with the HMC 812 hand-wound movement. A masterpiece of simplicity and ingenuity, this calibre indicates the months by means of a small central hand in red and white. While the months are usually represented by the indexes, this Concept version has neither indexes nor a logo, allowing the full beauty of the Smoked Salmon dial to shine through.

This colour, a classic in Haute Horology, adds an exquisitely vintage touch to this model. The vibrant dial creates an unending play of light, ranging from black to an arresting mirror effect, and changing with the movements of the wrist, from chocolate to gold, in a wide spectrum of shades.

Featuring a griffé finish found only on special editions, the Streamliner Perpetual Calendar Concept Smoked Salmon will be available for 12 months only. To display the hours and minutes, the three-dimensional hands made from two sections feature inserts with Globolight®, an innovative ceramic-based material containing Super-LumiNova®.

The Streamliner Perpetual Calendar Concept Smoked Salmon has a guaranteed power reserve of 168 hours, displayed at 10 o'clock on the dial via an indicator. At 4 o'clock, a window indicates the date, in large format, thanks to two superimposed discs which operate one after the other, from 1 to 15 then from 16 to 31.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Aligned with the crown, the date window is positioned at an unusual angle which required the numerals to be tilted to 26°. The date changes in a flash at midnight thanks to the "Flash Calendar" instantaneous date-change mechanism, and it can be adjusted forwards or backwards at any time of day. In constant pursuit of minimalism, the leap year indicator is located on the movement side.

Visible via the sapphire case-back, the HMC 812 calibre features an ultra-contemporary finish with the traditional Moser double horizontal stripes and an anthracite grey PVD coating on the balance bridges, train wheels, barrel and escapement plate. The main plate is microblasted and features anthracite rhodium plating.

The Streamliner Perpetual Calendar has perfectly rounded curves, evoking the very first high-speed trains from the Twenties and Thirties whose name it adopts. This shaped watch is equipped with a steel cushion case measuring 42.3 mm in diameter and is water-resistant to 12 ATM. Designed as a truly sculptural piece, this case boasts harmonious proportions and beautiful aerodynamics. It is topped by a subtly domed Glassbox type sapphire crystal, echoed by the see-through case-back. These curves extend to the integrated steel bracelet, which is elegantly arced to follow the line of the wrist; the unique design of the links ensures that it sits perfectly on even the most slender of wrists.

Highly complex in construction, this bracelet has extremely fluid lines, based on organic forms. All the links are articulated and feature a gentle wave combining a vertical brushed finish with polished surfaces. The bezel has a sunray brushed finish; the case has alternating brushed and polished surfaces, with hollowed and satin-finished forms on the sides, in a nod to the traditional unusual shapes typical of Moser cases.

THE STREAMLINER SMALL SECONDS WITH MICRO-ROTOR AND ENAMEL DIAL:
 AN EXCEPTIONAL COMBINATION

With the Streamliner Small Seconds Blue Enamel, H. Moser & Cie. is combining exclusivity, performance and craftsmanship in a single model. More than a product, the Manufacture is offering an objet d'art for those who appreciate discreetly refined, high-performance watchmaking.

At the heart of a steel case with new lines and proportions and dimensions perfectly suited to its movement is the brand's 18th Manufacture calibre. A true embodiment of H. Moser & Cie.'s technical and aesthetic prowess, this creation is set to become one of the must-have timepieces of the independent watchmaking world.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Made of steel and measuring 39 mm in diameter, the cushion-shaped case of the Streamliner Small Seconds Blue Enamel model is still water-resistant to 12 ATM and inspired by the curves and roundness of the first high-speed trains of the 20s and 30s, from which it takes its name. However, its proportions have been reworked to give it more elongated lines, made possible by the smaller dimensions of the new calibre HMC 500.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Integrated into the case, the steel bracelet is elegantly arced to extend the curves of the case. Highly complex in construction, it has extremely fluid lines, based on organic forms. The links, all unique and articulated, are the height of subtle sophistication, and supple flexibility.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To accentuate the steel of the case and bracelet, H. Moser & Cie. has chosen a Grand Feu enamel dial. Named "Aqua Blue", it reinterprets the brand's renowned signature fumé finish with the artistic flourish of a master craftsman.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Starting with a pattern engrained onto a gold base, as if hammered, three different colour pigments are washed, finely crushed, then applied to create an ombré effect. Careful work and limitless patience are required for the master enameller to painstakingly apply the pigments, adding them one by one so that the colours oxidise and meld together when heated in the furnace, without any pixellation.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A translucent "Grand Feu" enamel dial must be fired twelve times in total to create the fumé effect, where the lighter shades in the centre gradually deepen. Each dial is unique. Steel applique indices punctuate the edge of the dial, which features no logo.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To display the hours and minutes, the three-dimensional hands made from two sections feature inserts with Globolight®, an innovative ceramic-based material containing Super-LumiNova®. The offset small seconds is displayed at 6 o'clock on a lacquered sub-dial with a circular pattern, offering a beautiful contrast with the base dial.

Driving the Streamliner Small Seconds Blue Enamel model, the new automatic calibre HMC 500 is 100% Moser, 100% Manufacture-made. It is the smallest movement H. Moser & Cie. has developed in the 21st century.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Edouard Meylan, CEO of H. Moser & Cie., reflects on the development of this movement: "Our starting objective was to have a movement that was slim yet high performance. We then spent a great deal of time working to optimise the dimensions, which is why we decided to integrate a micro-rotor for the first time in our history.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Made from solid platinum, this micro-rotor is mounted on a ball bearing, equipped with a bi-directional pawl winding system, and offers sufficient barrel torque to provide a power reserve of 74 hours. We have had to develop new smaller, slimmer components and mechanisms which could then be integrated into the available volume.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The escapement was also miniaturised, whilst ensuring its performance remained unchanged, a technical feat made possible thanks to the expertise of our sister company, Precision Engineering AG. Because of the volume, the torque and the winding system, this was no easy task, but the result is a movement which will serve as a base for our small cases, and will enable us to introduce new complications, by combining it with modules developed in-house or in collaboration with our partner Agenhor".

The calibre HMC 500 features open bridges with a highly contemporary finish, decorated with the traditional Moser stripes and an anthracite grey coating. The company hallmark is proudly showcased on the micro-rotor.

H. MOSER & CIE. – ENDEAVOUR Chinese Calendar Gold Edition

H. MOSER & CIE.ENDEAVOUR Chinese Calendar Gold Limited Edition 2023

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Given the acclaim for its perpetual calendar, the most legible and ingenious on the market, H. Moser & Cie. wanted to explore this complication further and add another calendar to its collection. In collaboration with its partner, Agenhor SA, H. Moser & Cie. developed the Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition, produced in 100 pieces. This timepiece is a real technical feat, combining the Chinese lunisolar calendar with the solar-only Gregorian calendar and displaying the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac alongside the moon phases, all without requiring any corrections for 12 years. It also symbolises the union of two different cultures and measurements, and their harmonious coexistence. The timepiece unites the sun and moon, combining elements of the solar and lunar calendars, calculated separately, and synchronising them. It does so with an elegant and minimalistic aesthetic that makes the piece user-friendly to read and operate.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

People have always felt the need to measure time and to become its master. To this end, they have used heavenly bodies to determine cycles and calendars based on the sun, moon or both. While the Gregorian calendar is exclusively solar, the Chinese calendar is primarily lunar, as it tracks the cycles of the moon, but takes the sun into account at the same time, making it more complicated. This makes it a lunisolar calendar. Rich in cultural and traditional symbolism, it has its roots in the observation of nature thousands of years ago, and makes it possible to follow the rhythm of the lunar solar terms and four seasons, so essential to Chinese agriculture and traditional culture. It is a complex and ancient system for calculating time. By gaining an understanding of the Chinese calendar, one can travel through thousands of years of Chinese history and appreciate its subtleties. With the Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition, H. Moser & Cie. is paying tribute to traditional Chinese culture.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition is a true technical feat, displaying the months and days of the Chinese calendar, the days of the Gregorian calendar, the moon phases, and the signs of the zodiac that are associated with each Chinese year. As the lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, Chinese months have 29 or 30 days, in keeping with the phases of the moon, which takes 29.53 days to orbit the Earth. There are 12 lunar months, which means that a lunar year lasts an average of 354.36 days and, therefore, has 10.88 days fewer than a solar year, which lasts 365.25 days. In a solely lunar calendar, the months shift with respect to the seasons, each month starting around 11 days earlier with every subsequent solar year. To avoid an excessive discrepancy with the solar year, lunisolar calendars have a 13th month every two to three years. These months are known as “embolismic” and are added to keep the lunar years aligned with the four seasons. The Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition also indicates this extra month.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As there are no repeated cycles in the Chinese calendar, it is mechanically impossible to produce a Chinese perpetual calendar. H. Moser & Cie. and Agenhor SA therefore undertook a major challenge in choosing to make a timepiece that is able to precisely indicate all the lunisolar calendar information for every 12 years without any corrections. While the other Chinese calendars on the market require at least 70 manual corrections over a duodecimal period, this is the first movement to operate according to the same cycle without external intervention. This feat is made possible by two cams that work in parallel and convey information on the number and duration of Chinese months using feelers. The Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition will also take into account the number of Chinese lunisolar months and their duration, the embolismic months, the Chinese lunisolar year and the corresponding animal of the Chinese zodiac, the moon phases, and the dates of the Gregorian calendar, for a duration of 12 years. At the end of this cycle, the cams will very simply be changed for the next 12-year period at the same time as the watch is serviced.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Contrasting with the red gold of the Endeavour case, the Midnight Blue fumé dial bears the H. Moser & Cie logo in transparent lacquer, like a secret signature. It features crescent-shaped windows, one indicating the Chinese lunisolar months, on the left-hand side, and the other simultaneously displaying the Chinese lunisolar days and the moon phase on the right-hand side. Two retrograde hands with rounded tips travel along these windows and return to their starting points once they have completed their course. At 12 o’clock, two windows show the Chinese lunisolar year and the associated animal zodiac, as well as the embolismic month number whenever there is a 13-month year. In a standard 12-month year, this corresponding window will stay black. An off-centred small seconds display sits on top of the Gregorian calendar window at 6 o’clock. Limited to 100 pieces, the Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition model will be available from H. Moser & Cie.‘s partner network worldwide.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Based on H. Moser & Cie.‘s HMC 200 automatic in-house movement, the HMC 210 calibre is combined with a module developed by Agenhor SA. As Edouard Meylan, CEO of H. Moser & Cie., explains: “This synergy between our two partner companies gave rise to the Endeavour Chinese Calendar Limited Edition, which conveys the complexity of the Chinese calendar and encapsulates it in an elegant and refined watch that is easy to use, read and adjust. With its minimalist and elegant aesthetics, it is a contemporary westernised interpretation of the Chinese traditional culture, unlike the other models of its kind available on the market, which are extremely complex in functional display, difficult to read, and have a very oriental design. I am convinced that this piece’s success will transcend borders and cultures simply because it is a beautiful thing.”

H. Moser x MB&F — STREAMLINER Pandamonium Only Watch 2023

H. MOSER & CIE. x MB&FSTREAMLINER Pandamonium Minute Repeater  Only Watch 2023

 MB&F and H. Moser & Cie.
make noise for Only Watch

A unique Streamliner model

Maximilian Büsser and Edouard Meylan have collaborated for a second time for the Only Watch charity auction organised to raise funds for the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy, co-creating an exceptional one-off piece dedicated to music.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Baptised the H. Moser X MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium, it features a minute repeater complication led by a miniature DJing panda, a creature that has become the signature of the Only Watch creations by MB&F. At the heart of the Streamliner's case is a three-dimensional movement that has been developed specifically and exclusively for Only Watch. It will not be used in any other models.

Acoustically captivating and visually enticing, the minute repeater mechanism can be seen on the fumé dial in a brand-new colourway. Stripped of logos and indices, this dial illustrates the minimalist philosophy of H. Moser & Cie. and showcases the large suspended balance wheel characteristic of MB&F.  With this creation, MB&F and H. Moser & Cie. deliver a masterful mix of their DNAs, rhythmically punctuated with signature elements from each of the two brands. With its rare poetic sophistication, this watch is the height of technical excellence.

H. Moser & Cie. and MB&F create a buzz for Only Watch

When Maximilian Büsser and Edouard Meylan join creative forces, it really creates some noise!  Heads of MB&F and H. Moser & Cie. respectively, both independent, family-sized Swiss companies, these two passionate entrepreneurs never do things by half.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Following on from their immensely successful previous collaboration, Max and Edouard both wanted to repeat the experience in aid of the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy led by Only Watch. For this second collaboration, just as in 2020, the worlds of the two brands collide, working together for the enrichment of both. For a single one-off piece, MB&F and H. Moser & Cie. move to the same tempo, inviting the public to enjoy an artistic performance dedicated to showcasing sound.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To get the audience buzzing and give Only Watch the maximum possible resonance, the two brands decided to create a minute repeater. Returning to the very essence of this complication, they positioned the complex chime mechanism on the dial, allowing the passage of time to be heard whilst the choreography of the hammers and gongs can be simultaneously admired.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This ever-moving stage is further animated by the dial, which has been stripped of logos and indices and features a brand-new colourway, Aquamarine fumé. Continuing in this minimalist spirit, so emblematic of H. Moser & Cie., the hours and minutes are displayed directly on the dial via subtly elegant small leaf-shaped hands at 2 o'clock.

Miniature DJ panda

Baptised the H. Moser X MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium, this creation refers to the literary capital of hell, Pandemonium – a term which also describes a situation of wild and noisy disorder or confusion.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The letter "a" which replaces the "e" is a nod to the miniature panda sculpture that adorns its dial, a creature that has become the signature of the MB&F world, as Max Büsser explains: "Each Only Watch creation is an opportunity for MB&F to see things through the eyes of the children, more specifically those suffering from muscular dystrophy. Our original panda was created as an allegory for Only Watch 2011, and returned in 2021, before now making its third appearance in 2023

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This time, it is an invitation to immerse yourself in the world of music and lose all touch with reality for just a few beats". For both MB&F and H. Moser & Cie., the notion of pleasure is essential. In life as in watchmaking, having fun and cultivating the inner child is key.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This state of mind comes through in this little DJ panda, made from white gold and sculpted and decorated entirely by hand. Placed alongside the hammers, it seems to be mixing the soundtrack to the meeting between MB&F and H. Moser & Cie. Its turntables are fitted on the axis of the hammers and are driven by the rotation of the mechanism as it operates.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

At a height of just 5.35 mm, this miniature took countless hours of precision work to create, from the design and development phase, to modelling then manufacturing, followed by time at the hands of the engraver, then the jeweller for the final polishing – not forgetting the meticulous painting.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This was a true technical and artistic feat due to the tiny scale of its elements, such as the muzzle, which measures 0.99 mm, or the turntables, featuring a paw print, with an outer diameter of 1.75 mm and measuring just 0.35 mm thick.

Flying balance wheel and double hairspring

Taken from the Legacy Machine range, a large suspended balance wheel occupies centre stage. This beating heart represents the very essence of watchmaking in the eyes of Max Büsser, and features a double hairspring produced by Precision Engineering AG, H. Moser & Cie.'s sister company.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Thanks to this pair of perfectly matched hairsprings, the movement of the point of gravity on each spring when it expands is corrected, significantly improving accuracy and isochronism in continual pursuit of perfection. In addition, the paired hairsprings also reduce the effect of friction normally experienced with a single hairspring, improving isochronism.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Hypnotic in its movements, this balance wheel posed an additional challenge as the gongs had to be bent in two places to allow them to pass over the balance wheel bridge. Occupying three dimensions, the shaped gongs feature a flat coil and an upper coil, positioned one on top of the other.

Ingenuity devoted to enhancing sound

Within a steel frame on an integrated bracelet, the cushion-shaped case is topped with a domed sapphire crystal. It is water-resistant to 5 ATM. Preserving the proportions and signature curves of the Streamliner collection was no mean feat.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The sliding bolt, used to activate the minute repeater mechanism and fitted on a Teflon runner to ensure it slides perfectly smoothly, is built into the main plate to save space. The case middle has been completely hollowed out in order to accommodate the movement while allowing enough space to create a soundbox.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This amplifies the chiming of hours, quarter-hours and minutes by two gongs, onto which fall two hammers that are raised based on information provided by different feeler-spindles. The geometry of the case has been meticulously designed, developed and adapted to maximise the properties of steel and enhance its impact, whilst allowing the essential walls to form part of the resonance.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Steel has a relatively high elastic modulus, which means that this material deforms very little under stress and is consequently more rigid than gold; it retains the vibratory energy from sound well, rather than allowing it to dissipate thanks to its low damping effect.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

While ensuring the functioning of the minute repeater mechanism was already a complex technical feat, it also required perfect understanding of the subject to achieve a beautiful sound that combines amplitude, a certain length and a pure note.

Like a three-dimensional sculpture
Driving this exceptional creation is the three-dimensional hand-wound HMC 906 calibre, which has been partially skeletonised to allow certain key components of the mechanism to be admired. As it was not possible to case up this movement from underneath, as it usually would be, the assembly concept had to be redesigned. To be able to integrate the calibre from the top of the case, a removable bezel was created. In addition to the fact that it opens up the required access, it also makes the case larger, which is beneficial for the sound.

Click , to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Beating at 18,000 vibrations/hour, the calibre HMC 906 guarantees a minimum power reserve of 54 hours. It features highly contemporary finishes, with anthracite grey rhodium-plating on the bridges and the main plate, and the famous horizontal double Moser stripes.

A collaboration between friends
In conclusion, Edouard Meylan emphasises: "A successful mix of two sets of expertise and DNA which mutually enrich one another, the H. Moser X MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium model is a one-off piece resulting from a unique development process, featuring a unique movement and a unique dial, created especially for Only Watch, and providing us with the opportunity to excel ourselves for a good cause". There is no doubt that this model will create a buzz amongst collectors and lovers of Haute Horologie alike. It will be part of the international Only Watch event, which culminates in the auction on 5th November. Edouard Meylan and Max Büsser extend an invitation to all music lovers out there. On your marks! Get ready! Mix!

 MB&F

After a 15-year career in management at prestigious brands, Maximilian Büsser left his role as CEO of Harry Winston in 2005 to create MB&F – Maximilian Büsser & Friends. MB&F is a laboratory dedicated to art and micromechanical engineering, set up to design and create small editions of radical watches, the fruit of collaboration with exceptional professional watchmakers, chosen by Maximilian Büsser for their talent and working methods.
In 2007, MB&F unveiled the HM1, its first Horological Machine. With its sculptural three-dimensional case and finely decorated movement, the HM1 set the tone for the Horological Machines that were to follow – Machines which symbolise time rather than merely Machines used to read it. In 2011, MB&F released the Legacy Machines collection. These round pieces are more classic than MB&F's other creations, and pay tribute to the watchmaking excellence of the 19th century, reinterpreting the complications from innovative key watchmaking figures as objects of contemporary art.

H. Moser & Cie

H. Moser & Cie. was created by Heinrich Moser in 1828. Based in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, it currently employs more than 80 people, has developed 16 in-house calibres to date and produces around 2,000 watches per annum. Through its sister company Precision Engineering AG (PEAG), H. Moser & Cie. manufactures parts such as regulating organs and balance-springs, which are used for its own production as well as to supply its partner companies. Independent company incorporated into Moser Watch Holding in 2012, Precision Engineering AG specialises in watch components for escapements, from their initial design to the production of a quality product ready to be integrated into the watch movement it must regulate. H. Moser & Cie. is honoured to have a Moser family member with the company as Honorary Chairman and President of the Heinrich and Henri Moser Foundation. The aim of the Moser Foundation, created by one of Heinrich Moser’s descendants, is to keep the family history alive and seek out antique pieces for the Moser Museum, located in Charlottenfels Manor, Heinrich Moser’s family home. With its substantial watchmaking expertise and highly acclaimed experience in the sector, MELB Holding holds shares in H. Moser & Cie. and Hautlence. MELB Holding is an independent family group, based in the heart of the legendary Vallée de Joux.
