De Bethune – DB28xs Yellow Tones Titanium

De BethuneCURRENT DB25XS Yellow Tones Skeleton Dial Titanium - 2025

Manufacture De Bethune presents DB28xs Yellow Tones, a new version of its iconic 39 mm DB28. In teaming fiery-yellow titanium obtained through thermal oxidation with an in-house calibre, this timepiece combines tone-on-tone aesthetics with horological performance.

Inits quest for perfection driven by a dynamic of perpetual evolution, Manufacture De Bethune expands its flagship DB28 collection with a new interpretation of the DB28xs Yellow Tones, now available in a 39 mm version. True to its creative spirit, De Bethune is not simply offering a compact alternative to this model, but has completely revisited the aesthetic balance of the timepiece while continuing to explore the colour spectrum. For master watchmaker and founder Denis Flageollet, it is a matter of constantly returning to the drawing board: helping the design evolve by modifying an element, a process or a technigue and sometimes making tiny, often imperceptible improvements.

39 mm: New Harmony

The Manufacture has designed a new watch entirely around the slimmer 39 mm diameter, retaining the character as well as the rich architectural and technical characteristics of the DB28, while subtly standing out. The refined, understated aesthetic approach focused on Denis Flageollet's cherished tone-on-tone time readoff, expressed here in fiery yellow mode.

Through a play on superimposed volumes and finishes (notably including microlight engraving and mirror polishing), the multiple light reflections playing across the yellowed titanium components ensure perfect dial legibility.

Yellow Tones: The Colour of Fire

To achieve a fiery yellow with natural, intense and vibrant shades, the artisans plying their trade in L'Auberson treated the case and movement components individually, according to the type of metal, shape and mass.

This palette of warm tones - evoking amber, fawn, sunshine and flames - would not have been possible without mastering and adapting an exclusive metal thermal-oxidation process. The result is a veritable symphony of mesmerising, shimmering fiery yellow grade 5 titanium and naturally oxidised steels.

"Rethinking the light of a creation means playing with an infinite number of details. The rigorous choice of lines, volumes and surface finishes is defined by the material, its intrinsic qualities and its propensity to catch or reflect light. These nuances are essential for De Bethune, as they create unique visual resonance." — Denis Flageollet

Calibre DB2115V14

The meticulous aesthetic care devoted to the openworked dial serves the cause of technical horology dedicated to function. The hand-wound calibre - which continues to evolve in step with advances made by the Manufacture's technical department - is equipped with De Bethune patented features and innovations to ensure optimal precison timekeeping. The titanium balance fitted with white gold weights ensures impeccable inertia and regulation; while the De Bethune hairspring with its unique flat terminal curve guarantees remarkable precision.

A triple pare-chute shock-absorbing system protects the heart of the movement from impacts. Low energy consumption made possible by optimised mechanical components increases the power reserve by more than 20% - equivalent to six days - provided by a self-regulating twin barrel, indicated in linear mode on the back of the timepiece.

Optimal Comfort

Delicately polished grade 5 titanium ensures that the DB28xs Yellow Tones is extremely light and pleasant on the skin, like all models in the collection. Its compact, particularly comfortable 39 mm case is equipped with a patented floating-lug system that adapt to wrist size and movements.

Complemented by an extra-supple double-lined alligator leather strap and titanium buckle, these features all contribute to the exceptionally agreeble feel of this timepiece.

De Bethune – DB25XS Starry Varius

De BethuneCURRENT DB25XSB Starry Varius Star-Studded Sky Burgundy Dial Gold/Titanium - 2025

VOLCANIC effervescence

De Bethune reinvents the iconic DB25: the spectacular compact DB25xs Starry Varius unveiled at Geneva Watch Days 2025 features a sky reddened by the fire of the earth.

In exploring the colour spectrum of natural titanium oxidation using a thermal process unique to the Manufacture, De Bethune has opted for a warm, intense tone to depict the nocturnal spectacle of a volcanic eruption.

A new starry sky and its Milky Way

The DB25xs Starry Varius features a starry sky reddened by the earth in turmoil; while the dial mirrors a celestial canopy tinged by the activity of a volcano and its flowing lava.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Artisans in the L'Auberson workshops combine exceptional expertise and extreme meticulous care in hand-decorating the mirror-polished titanium dials. Their dexterity enables them to set each white gold pin in varyingly sized micro-perforations, bringing to life a poetic depiction of the starry sky. Using laser-beam micro-milling, a Milky Way motif is then revealed by applying 24-carat gold leaf. Like every starlit dial from the Maison, this new sky can be personalised according to a specific geographical location and date.

40 MM OF SHEER ELEGANCE

In a perpetual quest for comfort on the wrist, De Bethune's classic collection that started out at 44 mm had already been aesthetically revamped in 2078, featuring a slender 42 mm case with revisited lugs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The DB25 collection continues its transformation with a new 40 mm edition of the Starry Varius. In order to preserve the refinement of its original design, this trimmed down interpretation required complete rethinking of this timepiece's aesthetic balance.

According to Denis Flageollet: "It is important to maintain a beautiful dial aperture so that the observer can be fully immersed in the star-studded sky, thereby preserving the aura of the Starry Varius."

Its refined case sits perfectly on the wrist

This highly contemporary design with its sloping geometry is distinguished by slender curving lugs - subtly openworked and adorned with ogives - that emphasise the roundness of the object and ensure a comfortable fit.

The display is enlivened by delicately hand-polished rose gold hands gliding over matching hour-markers set on a silver ring.

DB2005AN EVER MORE POWERFUL CALIBRE

On the reverse side, a sapphire caseback with double anti-reflective treatment reveals the impeccable craftsmanship of the DB2005 hand-wound calibre incorporating the latest De Bethune technologies.

De Bethune – Maestri’Art DW5 Tiger & Dragon Edition

De BethuneMaestri’Art Dream Watch DW5 Tiger & Dragon Japanese Engraving Edition - 2025

 DW5 Maestri’Art Tigre & Dragon

De Bethune creates a one-of-a-kind edition of Maestri’Art DW5 Tiger & Maestri’Art DW5 Dragon for Monaco-based watch gallery Art in Time. Inspiration – Non-duality: The joust between Tiger and Dragon.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For thousands of years in Asian collective imaginations, the quest for perfection has involved the participation of the tiger and the dragon, the encounter between heaven and earth: Am and Du'o'ng. Like Yin and Yang, the principle of Am representing the tiger and Du'o'ng denoting the dragon, is based on complementarity. Universal balance unites the strength of the tiger and the spirit of the dragon that are regarded as inseparable.

In its own relentless pursuit of perfection, De Bethune pays tribute to this eternal joust and presents the DW5 Tiger & Dragon pair in the Maestri'Art collection. This duo combines the ancestral Japanese tradition of the tsuba arts, the delicate craftsmanship on the case and the finesse of hand-crafted engravings.

Not to mention the discreet yet equally cutting-edge technology of Calibre DB2144V2, which incorporates the Manufacture’s latest innovations and technologies.

Technique – An exclusive alloy, expert hands

Denis Flageollet, master watchmaker and founder of De Bethune, has developed an exclusive alloy inspired by the work of Japanese metalworkers on tsubas, the sword guards that protected a samurai's hand when an opponent's blade slipped on his sword.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It took hours of work by the deft hands of artist Michelle Rothen to create her engravings of traditional symbols and motifs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Using a reinvented technique following the gentle delta-curve shape of the case, she tames the gold-inlaid metal, playing with its volumes and patina to bring out all its symbolic strength as well as the mystical character of the tiger and dragon.

Watchmaking – A cross-disciplinary approach

The spirituality of movement as taught by the martial arts is found here in the union of several cross-disciplinary, ancestral and avant-garde skills which, assembled within this creation, are not merely additional touches but truly transcendent elements.

De Bethune –DB28GS Swordfish Black Zirconium Edition

De BethuneCURRENT DB28GS Swordfish Black Zirconium Edition - 2025

Reliability, technical excellence, and refinement

A diving watch that guarantees, as always with De Bethune, optimal legibility of the time and immersion duration. It is designed to perform under challenging conditions, with reduced visibility, both day and night.

2019 marked a turning point for De Bethune when Denis Flageollet, founder and master watchmaker, introduced a 100% sport model.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The DB28GS Grand Bleu represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his horological journey. Both technical and elegant, it is the first diving watch from the independent manufacturer, which, true to its approach, reinterprets and refines the aesthetics and technical features of its models over time.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Today, the DB28GS Swordfish adopts the elegant design and bold character of its predecessors, while offering a new bi-chromatic interpretation—both mysterious and dazzling—that explores the nuances of black surrounding the iconic De Bethune blue.

Exceptional Aesthetic Legibility

The craftsmanship at the Auberson workshops is evident in the quality of the finishes and the materials, including the oxidation of zirconium and Grade 5 titanium, as well as the DLC treatment on the hardened stainless steel. The combination of these materials for the 44mm case, the mobile cradles, and the bridges—brushed, hand-polished, or decorated with the "microlight" technique—offers a depth of black with multiple tonalities, ranging from matte to glossy, subtly highlighted with touches of blue.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Grade 5 titanium components — polished, mirror-finished, and blued—such as the hands, inserts, crown, bridges, and the micro-spherical indices of the bezel, have been meticulously designed, selected, and assembled to ensure immediate legibility of the time.

Diving Time Measurement

The immersion time is elegantly read on the De Bethune watch, thanks to a bezel that rotates the watch's sapphire crystal in its unidirectional movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Unlike traditional dive watches, the DB28 GS Swordfish displays the minute track on the sapphire glass itself, refining the design and enhancing legibility while maintaining a precise display system.

Technical Legibility Optimized by an Ingenious Mechanical Lighting System

In addition to the luminescent-tipped hands, the DB28GS Swordfish is equipped with De Bethune’s manual lighting system, which diffuses white light from the four corners of the dial (3, 6, 9, 12 o’clock) to illuminate the movement from the inside. This entirely mechanical system functions as simply as a bicycle light, without electronics or batteries.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is activated by a push-button at 6 o’clock, which triggers a small gear driven by the dual barrel. This gear, through a miniature dynamo, provides the energy necessary to light the watch without affecting the movement’s operation. Once again, the manufacture showcases its ability to blend functionality and technical excellence, as the simplicity of this lighting function masks the intricate engineering that only the De Bethune technical team can fully appreciate.

Shock Resistance and Optimal Comfort

The DB28 GS Swordfish continues the tradition of exceptional comfort De Bethune applies to its pieces, especially within the DB28 collection. This remarkable comfort is due to the combination of black zirconium and hardened stainless steel, its hand-brushed and polished finish, and the positioning of the crown at 12 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Additionally, it features the patented mobile cradle system, which adapts to the size and movement of the wrist. It has been enhanced by a DLC coating (Diamond-Like Carbon) that adheres perfectly to the ultra-hardened stainless steel of the cradles, ensuring resistance to shocks (unlike DLC coatings applied to softer materials such as titanium or 316L stainless steel commonly used in watchmaking). The DB28 GS Swordfish cradles stand out with blued Grade 5 titanium inserts, polished to recall the blue components of the case and dial. The natural rubber strap also contributes to the watch’s comfortable wear.

Performance of the DB2080 Movement

The DB28GS Swordfish meets the reliability standards set by De Bethune’s technical department and proudly boasts flawless water resistance to a depth of 105 meters. Its DB2080 movement is equipped with a double barrel self-regulating system that provides a 5-day power reserve, with performance indicated between 9 and 10 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The presence of a titanium/grey gold balance wheel, designed to adapt to temperature variations, along with a flat terminal curve hairspring, ensures an optimal mass/inertia ratio for an ideal frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, suited for wristwatches.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch undergoes extensive reliability and shock resistance testing, which it passes thanks to a triple shock absorber system that protects the heart of the movement. A titanium bridge, equipped with shock absorbers at both ends (ruby + blade spring) and a central damper, ensures precise position stability of the balance wheel, even during violent impacts.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The DB28GS Swordfish once again illustrates the meticulous research work of Denis Flageollet's teams on functional aesthetics, reliability, and technical performance — key elements at the heart of every De Bethune creation.
