The 43mm Stainless Steel DLC-coated Trip-Tick case is complimented by a bi-coloured polished Sapphire 24-hour bezel for day and night indication, and a luminous California sandwich dial design.

Vibrant green Super-LumiNova® permeates the design from the bezel to the cut-out numerals creating a highly legible dial with increased luminosity because of its ‘layered’ dial construction.

Instead of a single plate, a layered dial is comprised of a solid disc of luminous material which is covered with a plate with index apertures to expose the Super-LumiNova® as characters. This layered design achieves incredible performance in visibility and adds a lovely depth to the dial.

The dial is further enhanced with matt black hour and minute hands filled with green Super-LumiNova®, a matt black and gloss green GMT hand filled with green Super-LumiNova® and a gloss green centre second hand.

BREMONT – ARMED Forces Vulvan Edition

BREMONTARMED Forces Vulvan Chronograph Limited Edition 2023

Bremont pays tribute to an aviation icon with the launch of the limited edition Vulcan

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Avro Vulcan was a jet powered, tail-less, delta-wing, high altitude strategic bomber, operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF) from 1956 until 1984. Heralded as a symbolic last defence against nuclear war, the Avro Vulcan is one of the most iconic aircraft in the RAF’s history. As a long-standing supporter and partner of His Majesty’s Armed Forces, Bremont celebrates this iconic symbol of British aviation and engineering with a commemorative limited edition timepiece.

Limited to only 250 pieces, the 42mm Vulcan forms part of Bremont’s Armed Forces Collection, a series of timepieces born out of a partnership with the British Ministry of Defence. Specifically, the Vulcan is modelled on the base architecture of the Arrow, a watch within the collection inspired by the Royal Air Force.

Whilst retaining some of Bremont’s core design codes, the new chronograph weaves in some subtle details synonymous with the historic aircraft.

The Vulcan’s matte black dial features a running seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock with a two-tone 3-D camouflage design, and the elapsed minutes 3 o’clock counter features a nuclear symbol indicating the arsenal carried onboard. A date function is situated at 6 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In line with the wider Armed Forces Collection, legibility is key and a high degree of blue emission white Super-LumiNova® is applied across the dial.

For the first time, Bremont has introduced elegant, skeletonised, cathedral minute and hour hands which are also applied with white Super-LumiNova® and complemented by a striking RAF blue chronograph hand. These distinctive design details took inspiration from the cold-war clocks fitted in the Vulcan cockpit.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Turning the watch over reveals a stainless steel enclosed case back decorated with an engraving of the Avro B-1 Bomber and the heraldic badge of the Royal Air Force encircled with the inscription: ‘Approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces’ given that this timepiece was designed and approved by the MOD under Her Majesty’s Reign. Once the crests of His Majesty’s Armed Forces have been decreed, all case backs within Bremont’s Armed Forces Collection will be updated accordingly.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The limited edition Vulcan features a 56-hour power reserve and chronograph functionality operated by a pusher at 2 o’clock which starts, stops, and resets the stopwatch on the chronometer rated BE-51AE movement, a necessity for any timed mission. The two-piece satin and polished hardened steel case is in keeping with the original Arrow design.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The distinctive delta-wing was a new concept, and the Vulcan was the first combat aircraft in the world to adopt this unique wing shape. Originally painted bright ‘anti-flash’ white suited to operating at high altitudes and deploying nuclear bombs should it have been necessary; the requirements of the Vulcan changed over time and when they were required for more low-level tactical work they gained a new camouflage pattern.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This pattern is reflected on the sailcloth strap of the Bremont Vulcan which also comes with an ‘RAF blue’ sailcloth strap option.

Bremont Co-Founder Giles English comments: “The Vulcan’s legacy as a symbol of British military power and technological innovation continues to be celebrated today, and it remains one of the most iconic aircraft of the Cold War era. As aviators ourselves, celebrating such remarkable aircraft and feats of engineering is truly inspirational and it’s fitting to incorporate these commemorative pieces within our Armed Forces Collection through Bremont’s partnership with the MoD.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Despite its immense success, the Vulcan was retired from service in 1984 due to changing military priorities. However, a small amount of aircraft have been preserved and restored. The Bremont Vulcan watch is accompanied by elegant silver cufflinks in the shape of the aircraft, which incorporate aluminum from the original airframe of Avro Vulcan XH558 ‘Spirit of Great Britain’, the final Vulcan in military service.

The Vulcan was the second of the Royal Air Force’s ‘V bombers’ and like the Valiant and Victor provided part of Great Britain’s nuclear deterrent force for fifteen years, designed to carry conventional bombs and nuclear weapons in the event of the cold war. The prototype B-1 first flew on 30 August 1952 and four years later work began on an improved B-2 design. Powered by four Rolls-Royce Olympus engines, which gave it a top speed of over 600 miles per hour and a range of electronic and defensive systems to protect it against enemy attack, the aircraft had impressive capabilities.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Perhaps the most iconic and historic use of the Avro Vulcan was during ‘Operation Black Buck’ during the Falklands conflict in 1982. There were seven attack missions in total comprising of aircraft from 44, 50 and 101 Squadrons from RAF Waddington. Staged from the Ascension Island, close to the Equator, Operation Black Buck saw two Vulcans (designed for medium range missions), supported by eleven Victor tanker aircraft, drop a series of bombs on pre-designated targets on Argentinian positions at Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. Although the damage to anti-radar installations and Port Stanley airfield was relatively minimal, it showed that a target even 6,600 nautical miles away was very much possible, and it pushed the Argentinians to keep their fighter aircraft on their mainland. The Black Buck Raids proved to be the longest bombing raids in history at the time, and a logistical masterstroke.

An official partnership with the Ministry of Defence, paying tribute to His Majesty’s Armed Forces, saw Bremont become the sole luxury watch brand permitted to use the signs, symbols, and heraldic badges of all three services: the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force.

The resulting Armed Forces Collection, made up of the Argonaut, Broadsword and Arrow offers the civilian market authentic military inspired timepieces and provides a lovely counterpart to Bremont’s bespoke military special projects and commissions which forms a significant part of the business.

BREMONT – ALTITUDE MB Viper Titanium Edition

BREMONTALTITUDE MARTIN-BAKER MB Viper Matte Black Titanium Chronometer Limited Edition 2023

 A CONCEPT TEST WATCH

LIGHTWEIGHT TRIP-TICK® CASE CONSTRUCTION

The MB Viper is designed to be as light as possible, utilising high-performance, aerospace materials such as aluminium and Grade 5 Titanium.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Trip-Tick® case design houses the ENG300 movement which is protected by a patented anti-shock movement mount, and has specialised ‘pockets’ on the rear to remove excess weight.

To this end, the MB Viper features a patented rubberised Anti-Shock movement mount which protects the ENG352 calibre movement from significant shocks and jolts, whilst the 43.5mm matte DLC Grade 5 Titanium case employs a protective carbon coating and an anti-reflective, scratch resistant sapphire crystal.

 DESIGNED FOR OPTIMUM VISIBILITY

Inspired by the original Test Instrument, a distinctive bright orange bezel provides improved visibility, a necessity during the ENG300 Testing Programme should the watch have become dislodged from the manikin during ejection testing and have to be located in a field.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The chevroned hands provide excellent legibility and are typically observed in fighter jet cockpits, highlighting features of importance.

A MOMENTOUS STEP FOR BRITISH WATCHMAKING

In 2021 Bremont released its own ENG300 movement series marking a significant milestone for both the brand and British watchmaking as a whole. A new manufacturing line for machining base components and T0 assembly has been realised at the Bremont Manufacturing & Technology Centre “The Wing” based in Henley-on-Thames, UK.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Bremont has made considerable investment into new machinery, staff and training and the firm’s in-house technical team has re-engineered 80% of the base calibre, including making a number of design improvements, in order to build a proprietary movement to the brand’s unique specification. The ENG300 signals the first time in 50 years that mechanical movements have been built at scale on British shores.

POWERED BY A BREMONT MANUFACTURED MOVEMENT

The MB Viper is powered by a Bremont manufactured ENG352 calibre movement which features a 65 hour power reserve and comes with an extended warranty of 5 years upon registration.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A significant amount of expertise, logic and intellectual property has been transferred to Bremont, together with all relevant design rights especially in relation to parts machining and finishing, tool design and fixtures, and the movement assembly line.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Not only will movement parts, such as main-plates, automatic and balance bridges be manufactured and sub-assembled at Bremont’s Manufacturing & Technology Centre, but the movement will be fully assembled (down to jewel setting and regulation) at the new facility too. This represents an incredible leap forward for British watchmaking and this weighty progression marks the first time any UK movement manufacturing at scale has been done in 50 years, since Smiths in 1971.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is tested using Bremont’s H1 Timing Standard, which is directly comparable to the ISO3159:2009 Chronometer test. Bremont has spent many years working on movement design and engineering including most notably developing new IP in the UK with highly acclaimed movement designer Stephen McDonnell, a project which continues to be progressed for a high complication.  It has always been Bremont’s ambition to bring the art of industrial high-end watchmaking back to British shores. In the 1800s, close to half of the world’s clocks and pocket watches were made in this country, as was so much of the horological design and innovation that went into them, and many other timepieces built around the world.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Renowned for beautifully made, yet robust and shock-proof timepieces, Bremont sought to make improvements wherever there was an opportunity to enhance the toughness of the base calibre. One notable improvement was choosing to utilise a full balance bridge, which supports the balance wheel assembly.

To fine tune the movement’s accuracy, traditional adjustment screws are used on the free sprung balance wheel, a more difficult method of rate adjustment, but also more precise, and links back to early marine chronometry. Further design changes include revisions to the escapement, the automatic winding bridge jewels and a modified wheel bridge amongst others.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Test Instrument subjected the ENG300 Series movement to Live Ejection Testing, Zoom Temperature Climb Testing, Extreme Temperature Endurance, High Altitude Testing and Salt Fog Testing.

SUPER-LUMINOVA®

To ensure optimal lighting in the poorest of conditions, green emmission Super-LumiNova® has been applied to the hour markers and infilled within the tips of the hour and minute hands.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The vibrant orange anodised aluminium case middle is secured with 4 corner Torx® screws and on the dial, hours are marked with Super-LumiNova® along with the tips of the chevron-decorated hands whose pattern nods to the signature ejection pull handles seen on fighter ejection seats.

 COMPLIMENTARY STRAP

The MB Viper comes with a black canvas strap and a complimentary orange canvas strap, allowing the wearer to alternate their style.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Bremont H1 Timing Standard not only nods to Bremont’s home in Henley-on-Thames but is also named in homage to Harrison’s first ‘H1’ marine timekeeper that famously sought to solve the problem of measuring longitude out at sea. Historically one of the most prominent observatories for watch testing was the Kew Observatory in England and reinvigorating a British chronometer test is something Bremont has long since been building up to.

This timepiece will be individually hand assembled upon order, currently arranging client deliveries within 6-8 weeks.
