A NEW CHAPTER IN THE PERPETUAL CALENDAR

BOVET unveils the Récital 31, a new interpretation of the perpetual calendar that combines high horology, celestial complexity, contemporary wearability, and greater ease of use.

THE RÉCITAL 31

Inspired by owner Pascal Raffy's enduring fascination with the movement of celestial bodies and the precision of calendar watchmaking, the Récital 31 rethinks one of horology's most demanding complications.

BOVET is proud to introduce the Récital 31, a bold new chapter in the Maison's Récital collection and a refined expression of its commitment to exceptional watchmaking. Long associated with high complications, BOVET continues to evolve its creative language, producing timepieces designed to make watchmaking's most sophisticated mechanisms more intuitive for collectors to wear, enjoy, and feel every second.

The perpetual calendar is one of the most complex and functional complications in haute horlogerie, capable of accounting for the varying lengths of months and leap years over decades. With the Récital 31, BOVET brings this technical mastery into a 44 mm Dimier case with a box sapphire crystal, creating a timepiece that is both highly expressive and eminently wearable.

To address a constant complaint of collectors, the corrector pushers for the perpetual calendar and the moon phase are clearly labeled and engraved on the case itself. No more guessing and adjusting the wrong indication. In doing so, the Maison delivers a more intuitive experience without compromising the sophistication of the movement.

PASCAL RAFFY'S VISION

“I have always been fascinated by perpetual calendars; it is one of the most beautiful complications in watchmaking history,” explains Mr. Raffy. “I wanted to develop a 100% in-house movement with a spherical moon phase and a clear, intuitive display for all the indications, so that this complication could become truly practical for everyday use. We continue to defend art, beautiful guilloché, and hand-engraving. The Récital 31 is a substantial timepiece, designed with both poetry and precision in mind.”

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Récital 31 continues the design evolution initiated by the Récital 30, in whose design Mr. Raffy's children – Audrey, Alexandra, and Amadéo – were instrumental, further advancing BOVET's vision of a wearable high complication. It represents a fresh and modern interpretation of the perpetual calendar, one that preserves the romance and intellectual depth of traditional watchmaking while responding to the needs of today's collector.

THE NEW MANUFACTURE MOVEMENT

Combining the moon phase with the perpetual calendar with retrograde date was a challenge for BOVET's technical office, due to space and available power restrictions. BOVET has included moon phases with perpetual calendars in previous Grand Complications, like the GPHG highest award-winning Récital 22 Grand Récital, and with annual calendars like in the Récital 20 Astérium, which won the Calendar and Astronomy Award at the GPHG. This is, however, the first time this celestial indication has been paired with a perpetual calendar alone.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Mr. Raffy's commitment is to do as many processes in BOVET's own facilities as possible. Since 2006, when he acquired the manufacture in Tramelan, BOVET has increased its in-house production capabilities, with more than 95% of all components now done in Tramelan. This level of true mastery has not gone unnoticed, with more than 70 awards in the 20 years since, and 6 GPHG awards in the last 8 years.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The 469-component movement is exquisitely hand-finished and hand-engraved. A new engraving motif was developed for the Récital 31 and the Récital 32, named étoiles carrées or “square stars.” The engraving of the movement alone takes more than 15 hours in BOVET's in-house atelier. This level of attention to detail reflects BOVET's focus on the human touch – no assembly lines can be found anywhere in the manufacture or castle.

Available in titanium or 18K red gold, the Récital 31 reflects a balance of technical rigor, aesthetic refinement, and contemporary comfort. This year, the Récital 31 is available in three color combinations, with rubber straps matching the dial color, and each variation is limited to 60 numbered pieces.

With the Récital 31, BOVET once again confirms its ability to unite technical invention, artistic craftsmanship, and everyday usability in a single creation. The result is a timepiece that feels both timeless and ahead of its time, reinforcing the Maison's position at the forefront of contemporary haute horlogerie.

Welcome to the Good Life indeed.

BOVET 1822 – Recital 12 First Ever Titanium Case and Bracelet

BOVET 1822 Récital 12 Titanium Case and Bracelet 40mm - 2024

 Welcome to the Good Life
BOVET Introduces the Récital 12, its First Bracelet Timepiece Ever

(Môtiers, Switzerland, 21.06.2024) – For the very first time in its more than two centuries of history making the world’s most beautiful timekeeping objects, BOVET unveils the Récital 12, a timepiece that comes on a bracelet and is designed to be a constant companion.

The Récital 12 was in development for more than two years, as owner Pascal Raffy was keen to respond to requests made by many collectors around the world for an everyday-wear timepiece, specifically on a bracelet.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

BOVET has traditionally been a strap House, but we have had many collectors from all over the world asking for a metal bracelet,” explains owner Pascal Raffy. “I’m very detail oriented when it comes to comfort and design, so I knew if we did a bracelet, it would have to be as close to perfect as possible. My team and I worked on this timepiece for two full years, going through version after version to get it absolutely right.

“The bracelet is supremely comfortable, forming to the wrist and offering all-day wearability,” he continues. “I think its unique combination of style, comfort, lightness, and serious watchmaking will appear to collectors everywhere.”

The Récital 12 features a new 40mm case, a redesigned and reconfigured manual-wind movement, and the aforementioned bracelet. All in titanium, the Récital 12 is light, ergonomic, while at the same time focusing on high horology.

Titanium: The Perfect Material

The choice of material for the Récital 12 was all important. Over the years, BOVET has made timepieces in 18K white gold, 18K red gold, stainless steel, platinum, and even sapphire crystal. Recently, the House has added titanium to its mix.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Light yet strong, titanium is the perfect material for timepieces, as it is highly resistant to corrosion, difficult to scratch, and hypoallergenic.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

BOVET
’s teams of engineers, constructors, and watchmakers worked together to master this cutting-edge material. Mr. Raffy started his career in pharmaceuticals, so he was well aware of the material and knew that titanium was being used in high-tech medical implants due to its strength, lightness, and biocompatibility.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

BOVET
uses grade 5 titanium, an alpha-beta alloy that contains 90% titanium, 6% aluminum, and 4% vanadium, which offers an excellent combination of high strength, low density, and good corrosion resistance. In addition, grade 5 titanium offers excellent resistance in natural environments, and is able to withstand exposure to acids, seawater, and other corrosives.

The titanium used in the Récital 12 is entirely recyclable, reinforcing BOVET’s commitment to sustainability. BOVET knows that it is possible to combine the House’s focus on luxury while being environmentally responsible.

All Day Comfort

Light and sized at 40mm, the Récital 12 has been carefully engineered to provide exceptional comfort and wearability, resulting in a timepiece that is perfect for anything and everything. You can wear it to the office, to an elegant dinner party, or on the weekend with jeans and a t-shirt.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Don’t be fooled by its seeming simplicity, the bracelet itself is a true work of art, designed with meticulous attention to detail. Its ingenious folding clasp incorporates an expansion mechanism, allowing for up to 3mm of adjustability to accommodate minor fluctuations in wrist size throughout the day. The combination of polished and matte-brushed surfaces, along with the incorporation of the “V” of BOVET, creates a visually stunning and harmonious design. When the folding clasp comes together, the tips of the V form an infinity symbol.

High Caliber

The Récital 12 features a brand-new movement, its design unique for BOVET. The baseplate of the movement, which is typically visible from the front of the timepiece, has been inverted for the Récital 12. Resembling a three-quarter plate, this new baseplate has a circular bridge with BOVET engraved on it, designed so the timepiece could be thinner. The overall effect is impressive -- solid and robust, yet elegant and impeccably finished.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This new movement provides seven days of power reserve (168 hours) from a single barrel, emphasizing Mr. Raffy’s commitment to provide collectors with long power reserves, much longer than the current standard in watchmaking, 36-48 hours.

 Dial-Side

On the dial side, the movement has been opened up to expose BOVET in-house balance wheel and regulating organ, as well as a portion of the gear train providing the energy from the single barrel. A new bridge was developed for the seconds cage, adding to the mesmerizing visual effect. On top of the seconds wheel is a three-pronged running seconds indicator, complete with three fire-blued hands.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The off-set dial is made completely in-house, featuring BOVET’s iconic “Lotus Flower” guilloche, with 12 petals to represent the 12 hours. Fire-blued screws hold the dial in place, and it is coated with eight layers of rich lacquer to draw you in. Just above the dial is the power reserve indicator showcasing the impressive seven days of autonomy.

Where Art and Innovation Meet

The Récital 12 is the perfect embodiment of BOVET’s slogan, “Celebrating Art and Innovation. Since 1822.” Comfortable and subtle, light and perfectly sized, this timepiece incorporates a high watchmaking manual-wind movement with impeccable hand finishing, showcasing BOVET’s commitment to the highest watchmaking standards, combining the expertise of its cadre of artisans.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

“The House of BOVET has many facets – traditional, cutting-edge, innovative, high design, and more,” says Mr. Raffy. "The Récital 12 combines high-tech materials with high horology," says Raffy. "It is a supremely comfortable timepiece that will change the way collectors view BOVET."

The Récital 12 represents a bold new direction for BOVET, seamlessly blending the brand's rich heritage with cutting-edge innovation. With the Récital 12, BOVET has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of watchmaking, creating a timepiece that is both a technical marvel and a true work of art.

Welcome to the Good Life indeed.

BOVET 1822 – BOVET by Pininfarina APERTO 1 Titanium

BOVET 1822 BOVET by Pininfarina APERTO 1 Ultimate Titanium Skeleton 42mm 2024

BOVET by Pininfarina
APERTO 1

Blending Past, Present and Future Mechanical Mastery Meets the Future of High Watchmaking Unveiling the BOVET x Pininfarina Aperto 1

The Pininfarina name is characterized by its rich history in design excellence and craftsmanship, developing engineering artwork for more than 90 years. BOVET echoes this ethos in horology, with generations of artisans over its 200-year history shaping incredible, meticulously detailed timepiece artistry.

For the More Technically Minded:

The open-worked timepiece is a traditional design staple of the watchmaking industry. Today, with the introduction of the Aperto 1, Italian for “Open,” BOVET and Pininfarina unveil a highly contemporary take on this traditional design ethic.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This exciting new timepiece from the Houses of BOVET and Pininfarina combines the traditional arts of skeletonizing and exquisite finishing with innovation in materials and a thoroughly futuristic design. In addition, the BOVET Aperto 1 incorporates a brand-new system which makes exchanging the timepiece’s straps simple and effortless.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The BOVET Aperto 1 is a mechanical watchmaking masterpiece that redefines the traditional skeleton’s delicate, technical, and aesthetic role. It signals a bold new approach for the future of skeletonized high watchmaking. Transcending the ordinary, the timepiece continues to place the intricate dance of gears and mechanics on full display, while at the same time adding a new ingredient – supreme versatility.

A Masterpiece of Engineering and Design

The BOVET Aperto 1 is powered by a brand-new, hand-wound, open-worked manufacture movement that captures the essence of futurist high watchmaking with its impeccable design and precision engineering, reduced to its bare essentials.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Its open-worked movement has had everything extraneous removed; its bridges and plates all merging in the center of the movement. Thanks to sapphire crystals on both sides, the in-house movement architecture of this timepiece is on full display.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Aperto 1 features a 42mm grade 5 Titanium case that is sandblasted in such a way that fingerprints will not show after handling. The movement itself is coated with black and tantalum grey treatments, highlighting its cutting-edge architecture. The movement components are all crafted in-house by BOVET, open-worked and finished by hand to perfection.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Each movement undergoes at least 10 hours of hand-finishing just for the plates and bridges alone. The techniques used include: PVD or CVD coating (depending on the color); bead blasting (challenging not to deform the components and to keep a uniform orientation of the grains); graining of the flanks; polishing of the bevels; polishing of stone gouges and screws; perlage, circular Côtes de Genève; polishing, and anglage. This extraordinary level of attention to detail, beloved by collectors, should be viewed through a loupe to be completely appreciated.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Ultimate finesse is required of BOVET’s dedicated artisans due to the movement parts being coated before assembly. Great care must be exercised not to damage the coatings in any way. One slip of a tool during assembly and the component must be discarded.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A significant and distinguishing feature of the Aperto 1 is its unique approach to interchangeable straps, inspired by BOVET’s patented Amadeo system. Ultimate versatility is the result. Using a completely new system created exclusively for Aperto 1, the owner is able to change the straps in just a few seconds by simply activating the pushers to remove each strap and insert an alternative one. The system couldn’t be easier or quicker, underlining the attention to the needs of collectors that defines all BOVET timepieces. Each Aperto 1 comes with two straps, and additional straps may be purchased through authorized BOVET retailers.

BOVET – Virtuoso XI Gold Tourbillon Edition

BOVET 1822 –  Virtuoso XI White Gold Tourbillon Edition 2023

 Engraving Challenge

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It stands to reason that skeletonized timepieces particularly appeal, for they put all the mechanical complexity on full display. In the 22 years since Mr. Pascal Raffy took the helm of BOVET, he has insisted on making sure the movement is visible, its high watchmaking pedigree open to be admired, while at the same time reinforcing the House’s commitment to the decorative arts.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Given this focus on mechanical artistry, it might seem a bit surprising that the new BOVET 1822 Virtuoso XI is the very first full skeleton timepiece the House has ever introduced. And what a skeleton it is.

Features & Functionality

The delicate dance when skeletonizing a movement is to remove enough material to enhance the aesthetics and completely show the inner workings, while still keeping the movement robust enough to function impeccably. Take away too much material from the bridges, for example, and they could deform and damage the performance of the movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With the Virtuoso XI, the movement was specifically conceived and designed from the start to have enough space to engrave both sides of the bridges and plates, and room to admire them, and the result is exceptional.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

More transparent than any timepiece that BOVET has ever produced, every aspect of this high watchmaking movement is on full display.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The hand-engraving for the Virtuoso XI takes around 60 hours for the movement and the Writing Slope case. The engraving is done free-hand and leaves no room for mistakes. Surprisingly, the engravers, sitting quietly in the well-lit atelier, don’t seem to feel any pressure, though anyone watching them certainly does. The artisans delight in the dance of their tools as they transform a plain bridge or plate into an engraved objet d’art.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The decoration is BOVET’s own Fleurisanne motif, one that the House has used for decades. Inspired by the tree leaf pattern on Greek columns from centuries ago, this theme is one of the signatures of BOVET. The name of this motif recalls that the House is still based a stone’s throw from where it was founded – a small village named Fleurier.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The flying tourbillon movement that drives this exceptional timepiece meets BOVET’s demanding criteria of chronometry, reliability, and expression. It draws its energy from a single barrel that ensures more than 10 days of power reserve (240 hours, when the industry standard is 42-48 hours), all while maintaining the balance wheel’s oscillations at 18,000 vph.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Finally, the long power reserve, provided by a single barrel, would require meticulous winding if not for the spherical differential winding system. The application of this ingenious mechanism, and the multi-gear three-dimensional teeth of one of its pinions, has received two patents.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Because of this system, the number of crown turns needed for full winding of the mainspring is halved without increasing friction and forces exerted on the gears.
