De Rijke & Co. – Capri Edition

De Rijke & Co.CAPRI Edition 2026

Join Me in Building an Independent Watch Brand

De Rijke Watches is a watch brand with a strong focus on new product development, technical innovation, and craftsmanship. As the brand continues to grow, I am looking for someone to work closely with me and support me in the day-to-day business.

This is not a narrowly defined role. I am looking for a versatile, hands-on person who enjoys variety and wants to be involved in everything that goes into building and running a watch brand.

Following the Amalfi, the Capri continues De Rijke & Co.'s tradition of naming timepieces after places where beauty, culture, and timelessness converge. The Isle of Capri has long been a destination for refined escapes — a place where evenings feel cinematic and style becomes instinctive. This atmosphere inspired the watch’s character: elegant, sculptural, and unmistakably suited for cocktail hours and black-tie occasions.

Created for evenings that call for black tie and quiet confidence, the Capri brings refined geometry to the world of cocktail-hour elegance.”

The Capri draws from the lineage of iconic rectangular watches, but it doesn’t try to imitate them. Instead, it reframes the genre through a modern, design driven lens. The result is a square watch that feels familiar at first glance, yet undeniably fresh.

Sculptural curvature, inside & out

At the heart of the Capri is its striking curved sapphire crystal, a complex element inspired by the bowed glass of vintage shopfronts, architectural forms, and mid-century design icons. Perfectly suited for cocktail events and blacktie occasions.

Beneath it lies a dial that follows the same philosophy. Rather than remaining flat, the edges of the dial curve gently to mirror the arc of the crystal above. Achieving this was particularly challenging for the stone dial variants, as stone is normally kept completely flat for traditional lapping-machine polishing.

To realize the Capri’s curved geometry, we adopted polishing techniques typically used for shaping sapphire crystals — a far more delicate and labor-intensive approach.

Capri Blue

The Capri Blue, a deep blue dial with a red sub-seconds hand, a colourway inspired directly by the waters surrounding Capri

This shade of blue is rich, saturated, and almost luminous — capturing the depth of the island’s coastline as seen from a cliffside terrace. The small red seconds hand provides a subtle, playful contrast, like a fleeting glint of sunlight on the sea’s surface.

Innovative construction

The Capri’s minimalistic philosophy goes far deeper than its crystal and dial. Every detail was intentionally refined to preserve the purity of its silhouette. The screws, for example, are hidden discreetly behind the strap, allowing the case to appear as a single, uninterrupted shape. Nothing distracts from the cohesive geometry.

Despite this purity of form, the Capri is far from delicate. It offers 3 ATM water resistance and the crystal is 1mm thick, ensuring it’s capable of handling the realities of modern life.

Inside beats a movement worthy of its exterior: a highend La Joux-Perret hand-wound calibre. Known for its refined engineering, reliability, and beautiful finishing, it adds mechanical depth to the Capri’s minimalistic exterior.

Laurens de Rijke

Laurens de Rijke is a Design Engineer with a passion for classic vehicles, adventure and watches. Wherever possible, he wants to combine these passions into an exciting adventure. Driven by these passions, he learned how to work with mechanics, and he got fascinated by mechanical solutions. He worked for a renowned Vespa and Lancia restoration company, and he undertook remarkable journeys.

In 2013 he left on his fifty-year-old Vespa scooter for a trip which took him along the ancient Silk Road, covering a distance of 11.000 kilometer, he past countries like Azerbaijan. Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. During this trip he bought his first mechanical watch on a flea market in Georgia. He used the watch on his Vespa in order to keep track of time.

The limitations of this watch fueled the ambition for his next adventure; the development of a mechanical watch for drivers. He devoted his graduation to this project and came in touch with renowned Dutch designer Bruno Ninaber van Eyben. It was Bruno and his Studio that taught Laurens the craft of watch design and making.
