The worlds of film and fine watchmaking have a lot in common: both look back on a long heritage and draw on the pioneering spirit and creativity of gifted individuals to create true works of art – whether it is on the big screen or on the wrist. IWC Schaffhausen has continuously demonstrated its passion for filmmaking through its support for a variety of film festivals, not only in Beijing, but also in Tribeca, Zurich, London, Singapore and Dubai. “I am deeply impressed by the creativity and diversity of Chinese cinema, which is highly unique and cannot be compared to any other filmmaking style in the world. As a watch manufacturer with strong ties to China, which now has the largest movie industry in the world, IWC is proud to support the Beijing International Film Festival. Since its early beginnings, this festival has constantly grown and established itself as a high-profile forum for the interaction between the Chinese and the international film industries”, explains Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.

The venue was elaborately decorated with black-and-white photographs and filmrelated themes paying tribute to the rich heritage of Chinese film. Celebrities and VIP guests from the mainland and around the world attended the spectacular dinner held in the ambience of 1930s China.

Walking the red carpet were IWC brand ambassadors Rosamund Pike and Zhou Xun, as well as Qin Yi, Liu Weiqiang, Teng Huatao, Tian Yuan, Guan Hu, Liangjing, Ou Hao and Li Danni. “The extraordinary location, the movie theme decoration and the traditional Chinese elements made this a truly unforgettable evening for me”, said actress and singer Zhou Xun. “I am thrilled that IWC has honoured China’s diverse film industry with this very special night”, she added. During intimate talk sessions earlier that day,

Rosamund Pike, Zhou Xun and Georges Kern had discussed their passion for movies, as well as the significance of the BJIFF and Chinese film. Since meeting Zhou Xun in Geneva, I have started to watch more Chinese films. I love watching actors work and have discovered so many wonderful actors and actresses that I did not know before,” said Rosamund Pike.

A highlight of the gala event was the presentation of the IWC Filmmaker Award, which aims to honour exceptional personalities in the film industry. This year, the award went to Qin Yi. The 94-year-old film legend appeared in more than three dozen movies and became one of China’s most popular film actresses throughout the 1950s and 1960s. “With Qin Yi, we are honouring one of China’s most popular film actresses in recent history. She not only is a living legend of Chinese film, but also a contemporary witness to the rich history of this amazing country”, said Goris Verburg, Managing Director of IWC Asia Pacific, at the presentation of the award.
