Louis Moinet - Jules Verne Instrument III Limited Edition

Louis Moinet - JULES VERNE Instrument III Limited Edition NEW

After the successful introduction of Jules Verne Instrument I & II limited edition watches in 2009, Swiss luxury watch brand Louis Moinet enhances this line with the Jules Verne Instrument III, the new model that inspired by the eponymous author’s 20,000 Leagues under the Sea novel published in 1869.

In this science fiction adventure novel, Jules Verne imagines a protagonist, Captain Nemo, who no longer has any ties with human society from which, he has chosen voluntary exile. He forsakes dry land, surviving by sea alone, and sailing the oceans aboard his Nautilus submarine.

The "Nautilus" near the caves of Atlantis (1865)

Louis Moinet has created a high-precision instrument for Captain Nemo – a loyal companion to accompany him alongside his various locomotion devices in his many confrontations with known and unknown worlds.

Jules Verne Instrument III is an original and decidedly technological chronograph. It is equipped with an inventive subaquatic-looking monopusher, as well as an astonishing function indicator (patent pending) inspired by the famous Chadburn telegraph transmitters on historical ships. The dial picks up the signature Louis Moinet “Côtes du Jura” decoration, while the visibility of the function indicator and the chronograph counters is highlighted by milled appliques enhanced with hex screws and coated with a blue and white luminescent substance.

With a central 60-second counter and 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, the chronograph is operated by a subaquatic-looking monopusher at 2 o'clock, and features an astonishing function indicator – start, stop, or reset – at 5 o'clock, inspired by the famous Chadburn telegraph transmitters on historical ships.

Meanwhile, central hours and minutes are complemented by small seconds at 9 o'clock, with a date window at 7 o'clock.

The dial boasts signature Louis Moinet Côtes du Jura guilloche, with the visibility of the chronograph function indicator and the chronograph counters enhanced by milled appliques and hex screws in addition to blue and white Super-LumiNova coatings.

Jules Verne Instrument III sits on the wrist extremely comfortably thanks to the strong yet light Grade 5 titanium case; the blackened lower bezel contrasts neatly with the upper bezel in 18k rose gold, while a supple natural rubber strap is the perfect choice for such an aquatically-inspired timepiece.

Turning over Jules Verne Instrument III, the display-back reveals plates and bridges beautifully engraved with a Côtes du Jura motif as well as a distinctive open-worked, ballbearing-mounted rotor.

The watch is fitted with a high-precision mechanism, a screw-balance “machine” beating at a rate of eight vibrations per second, and wound by a ballbearing-mounted rotor with an openworked segment. It is engraved with a black-finish “Côtes du Jura” motif, features blued steel screws, and is endowed with a 48-hour power reserve.

The case of this light weight watch is made of polished grade 5 titanium. The lower bezel is black PVD-coated, and its upper bezel is in 5N 18-carat rose gold. The crown and pusher are a clever blend of 5N 18-carat rose gold and black PVD, stemming from cutting-edge technology.
The design of the watch is inspired by the lines of the Nautilus, the famous steel ship described by Jules Verne. A supple and comfortable rubber strap is a natural choice for an aquatic environment.
