Founded in 2004 in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, the birthplace of high-end mechanical watches, the company has inherited a long watchmaking tradition.

In 2009, it launched the first calibre incorporating six retrograde second mechanisms – Royal Retro.

MORE THAN EVER IN HARMONY WITH THE LANDSCAPE OF THE VALLÉE DE JOUX, THE BIRTHPLACE OF WATCHMAKING SAVOIR-FAIRE, THE GRANDCLIFF 1004 ROYAL RETRO OFFERS A NEW TAKE ON THE ICONIC PIERRE DEROCHE MODULAR MOVEMENT.

For the first time with a dial, the exclusive Dubois Dépraz calibre boasts a new case whose chic and sporty design further enhances the relay of retrograde second hands. Even under water, since the GrandCliff 1004 Royal Retro is water-resistant to 100 metres!

THE REVOLUTIONARY ROYAL RETRO MECHANISM,
WITH SIX SECOND HANDS,
PERFECTLY ILLUSTRATES THE PIERRE DEROCHE PHILOSOPHY.

The drive to take the pleasure of fine watchmaking to new heights led to the creation of the first movement with a second display comprising six retrograde hands. The fascinating ballet performed by the relay of second hands is made possible by modular design.

ITS GOAL?
TO GIVE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THIS COMPLICATION MORE CHANCES
TO SEE THE HANDS RETURN TO ZERO.

Building on a basic movement known for its power and precision, Pierre DeRoche focused his attention on the additional mechanisms.

Those belonging to the retrograde hands are moved by gears, not cams, and are positioned around and powered by the central axis of the movement. A strip spring was chosen over a balance spring to trigger the hands’ return to zero.

10 for Royal Retro’s milestone birthday. 04 for the number of versions of the revolutionary mechanism… 1004, above all, for the altitude of the Lac de Joux. Designed by Octavio Garcia, the GrandCliff 1004 Royal Retro is part of the brand’s DNA, drawing inspiration from the beating heart of the Vallée de Joux. The Pierre DeRoche signature complication has been reinvented, maintaining the highest standards of watchmaking excellence, while positioning this new design at a more accessible ‘altitude’.

Grade 5 titanium case, ceramic rotating bezel, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, sapphire back, luminous markers, Super-LumiNova®-treated black and red hands, Cordura bracelet with titanium buckle… The GrandCliff 1004 Royal Retro asserts its contemporary sporty character yet hints at an organic attachment to its origins. Its powerful hands slice through time like a rower or diver through water. The chunky crown protectors evoke the mountains and the harsh climate…

This watch emerges unquestionably from the waters of the Vallée de Joux.
