A CONTEMPORARY HOMAGE TO MARK 75 YEARS OF PORSCHE.

It has been 75 years since Ferry Porsche built the sports car of his dreams and presented the Porsche 356 'No. 1' roadster to the world. It was the birth of a culture, an ambition, a way of thinking. And so we are now celebrating 75 years of "Driven by Dreams"

A welcome opportunity to reflect on our history and celebrate all those who dream like we do. Who make their dreams come true and make the world a richer and more colourful place. Porsche Design is marking this special anniversary with the launch of the Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition, a special model strictly limited to 475 pieces.

THE DESIGN

The Chronograph I was the first timepiece developed by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972 to mark the foundation of Porsche Design

The Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition  pays homage to the original with, among other things, a Fuchs rotor including a coloured Porsche emblem under a sapphire crystal. The case is made of high quality titanium with a Black titanium carbide coating.

The dial in Black with White accents and modern Porsche Design logo including lettering as well as the bezel with tachymeter catch the eye just as effectively as a sports car from Zuffenhausen.

In addition, the chronograph is available with a Black leather strap and matching Black stitching.

An Icon of Time – Both Then and Now

The Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition from Porsche Design has received the German Design Award in the “Luxury Goods” category. The ”German Design Council”, an independent international jury of experts, honored the timeless design and purist design language of the chronograph in the “Excellent Product Design” discipline.

The award-winning timepiece is a reminiscence of the Chronograph I, the world’s first all-black wristwatch. Following his vision, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche derived the design principles from the cockpit of the Porsche 911 in 1972 and transferred them consistently to a watch.

The result was not only a revolutionary chronograph that guaranteed easy readability thanks to an antireflective black dial, but also the first “sports car for the wrist.” “We are very proud to have received one of the most prestigious international design awards for the Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition. The award is a great recognition, not only of F. A. Porsche’s innovative design, but also of our ability to carry this distinctive heritage into the future,” says Carsten Monnerjan, Head of Design at the Porsche Lifestyle Group.

International Standards for Pioneering Design Developments

Every year since 2012, the German Design Award has set international standards for innovative design developments and competitiveness on the global market. Only projects that are pioneering in the German and international design landscape are honored.

All Black Numbered Edition Wins German Design Award 2024

“The Chronograph 1All Black Numbered Edition refers to the legendary black watch classic from Porsche Design with characteristic features and translates them into a formal and technically contemporary design that also makes this elegant, sporty chronograph unmistakable,” the jury explained. The award is divided into three disciplines: “Excellent Architecture,” “Excellent Communication Design,” and “Excellent Product Design.”

The German Design Award will be presented in Frankfurt am Main in January 2024. All award winners will be presented as part of an exclusive exhibition.

Exclusive Small Series, Handcrafted and Highly Precise

The Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition is produced in an exclusive small series of a maximum of 1,000 pieces per year in Porsche’s own watchmaking manufactory in Solothurn, Switzerland. Consecutive numbering adorns the back of the case, making each piece unique.

“We asked ourselves how F. A. Porsche would design ‘his’ chronograph with the means available today. Since the chronograph’s function as a timekeeping instrument was more important for him than its decorative character, the design of the new edition is based directly on the historical model, but is technically completely up to date,” explains Rolf Bergmann, CEO Porsche Design Timepieces AG

The black-coated case and the bracelet featuring a quick-change mechanism are made of ultralight, resistant, and hypoallergenic titanium. The crown and chronograph push buttons are dynamically waterproof. The sapphire-crystal glass is antireflective and is enhanced with an additional hardened coating. Dial, crown, clasp, and case back bear the current Porsche Design logo. The tachymeter and the day/date display use the current Porsche font. The handcrafted mechanical Porsche Design WERK 01.140 chronograph caliber, with COSC certification, ensures maximum precision. All information on the Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition is available online at porsche-design.com and at Porsche Design Stores, Porsche Centers, and selected watch retailers.

PORSCHE DESIGN – Chronograph 1 GP 2023 Edition

Tradition Meets Zeitgeist – On the Wrist and On the Ice Racetrack

Porsche Design is once again the official timing partner of the GP Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria, in January 2023. For the fourth new edition of the legendary ice race, the design brand is presenting a special edition of the Chronograph 1 in a limited edition of 250 pieces.

Ferdi Porsche, nephew of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the founder of Porsche Design, and organizer of the GP Ice Race since 2019, was even more closely involved in the development of the chronograph this time and set decisive accents in the design process.

Back to the Roots

For Ferdi Porsche, the collaboration with Porsche Design is very close to his heart, because it was his uncle who revolutionized the world of watches back in 1972 with the Chronograph I, the first all-black wristwatch, thus laying the foundation for the Porsche Design brand. With this partnership, Porsche Design is sending a clear signal, as Zell am See has also been home to the design studio for decades. Since 1974, functional and iconic Porsche designs have conquered the world from here.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Together with his feel for form and color, the trained architect Ferdi Porsche incorporated his uncle’s philosophy into the creation of the timepiece with the design team of Studio F. A. Porsche. He intensively accompanied the development of the chronograph in Porsche’s own watch factory in Solothurn, Switzerland. The result is a timepiece that is visually based on the original from 1972 but, at the same time, embodies a modern zeitgeist. “It has become a very distinctive chronograph that takes me back to my roots. Always on my wrist, the timeless design is the perfect companion for any style, any occasion, and on any day. The special thing about it is that motorsport enthusiasts immediately recognize the story behind it,” says Ferdi Porsche.

Innovation by Tradition

The focus in the development process of the new Chronograph 1 – GP 2023 Edition was on optimizing its function as a timekeeping instrument and on the racetrack. The design of the GP timepiece is faithfully based on its iconic model from 1972, which was derived from the aesthetics of the dashboard of the Porsche 911. Fluorescent hour indices and exceptionally bright Super-LumiNova® luminous material create a maximum contrast on the matte-black dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Together with the seven-fold antireflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with hard coating, this ensures optimal readability. But it would not be a “genuine” timepiece in the sense of the Porsche Design founder if its functionality and refined design details had not been further developed in crucial places: the pointed minute hand (rectangular in the original), the red stop hands (white in the original), and the uncoated silver titanium case.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The latter is more than an innovative design statement of the young generation that makes this limited edition of the Chronograph 1 unique. Rather, the goal here is to reduce weight. A highly precise drive is produced by the WERK 01.240 caliber with flyback function and COSC certification, innovative quick-switch date display, and bilingual day display. The case is dynamically water-resistant to 10 bar and has a diameter of 40.8 mm. As a reminder of the original, the historic Porsche Design logo can be found on the dial, crown, and clasp as well as on the back of the case. In addition to the edition number, another highlight is a laser engraving of the GP logo: a Yeti sitting on a tractor. The bezel has a 60-minute scale, and the controls are in contrasting black.

Special Textile Strap for Racing Drivers and Winter Sports Enthusiasts

The GP 2023 Edition features two bracelet variants. The modern white GP badge, which already adorned the GP 2022 Edition, ensures a high level of functionality, as the textile strap allows the watch to be put on quickly and worn comfortably over a ski or racing suit – for example, when skijoring. In this traditional ice-racing winter sport, daredevil skiers were originally pulled across the ice track by horses; today, this is done by horsepower in the form of sports cars.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As an alternative to the special GP badge, the strap is also available as a classic black version made of fine vehicle leather and with a matte-black titanium folding clasp. Customers receive the high-quality timepiece in a black box with a laser-engraved acrylic plaque. A must-have for all watch enthusiasts and Porsche fans.

The strictly limited Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – GP 2023 Edition can be ordered from December 15, 2022, onwards at porsche-design.com and in Porsche Design Stores worldwide at a price of 8.950 euros.

 About the GP Ice Race:

With the GP Ice Race 2023, a spectacular event is now picking up speed once again – a collaboration that combines both sports cars and time as well as tradition and the future in an innovative and highly aesthetic way. Three exciting days of motorsport under extreme conditions and an extraordinary atmosphere. It almost fell into oblivion. After a break of almost half a century, the tradition has come back to life. What started as an idea of two friends is a spectacular winter event for motorsport fans. The values that the GP Ice Race has always stood for, such as tradition and innovation, will now be joined by another mission that is very close to the initiators’ hearts – the Ice Race is to become a synonym for sustainable motorsport and future-oriented mobility. Very much in keeping with Prof. F. A. Porsche, who likewise always left his unique designs as a legacy for tomorrow’s world.

PORSCHE DESIGN – Chronograph 1– 911 Dakar Edition

PORSCHE DESIGN Exclusive Porsche 911 Chronograph 1 911 Dakar and 911 Dakar Rallye Design Titanium Edition 2022

Time for New Motorsport Adventures off the Road

Porsche is celebrating an extraordinary world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show: the new Porsche 911 Dakar is just as comfortable off-road as it is on the highway.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The exclusive model, limited to 2,500 units, not only shows that there are hardly any limits to the concept of the Porsche 911. It also evokes the first overall victory by Porsche in the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally, which was simultaneously the birth of all-wheel drive in the Porsche 911. This is why the new 911 Dakar is also offered with an optional Rallye Design Package, reminiscent of that iconic winning car.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The first striking detail of the Porsche 911 Dakar is its ground clearance, which is 50 millimetres higher than that of a 911 Carrera with sports suspension. And the standard lift system can raise the front and rear ends an additional 30 millimetres. Its ground clearance and ramp angle rival those of conventional SUVs. The lift system is not only used to slowly cross obstacles, but is an integral part of the retuned chassis. The ‘high level’ setting is available for ambitious off-road adventures at speeds of up to 170 km/h. Above that speed, the car automatically lowers back down to its normal level.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Complementing the car’s sporty off-road attributes are specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres (sized 245/45 ZR 19 at the front and 295/40 ZR 20 at the rear). The chunky tread pattern is nine millimetres deep and the reinforced sidewalls and the threads consist of two carcass plies. All this makes the tyres of the Porsche 911 Dakar ideal even for challenging terrain and they are highly cut-resistant. Pirelli P Zero summer and winter tyres are available as an option, also with two carcass plies. But the all-terrain tyres come as standard and offer sports car dynamics on the road as well.

Commanding power on all surfaces

The three-litre biturbo six-cylinder with 480 PS (353 kW, 911 Dakar: Fuel consumption* combined (WLTP) 11.3 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions* combined (WLTP) 256 g/km, Fuel consumption* combined (NEDC) 10.5 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions* combined (NEDC) 239 g/km) and a maximum torque of 570 Newton metres delivers superior performance with a compelling boxer sound. The new sports car sprints to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds; due to the all-terrain tyres the top speed is limited to 240 km/h.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As standard, the engine comes with an eight-speed PDK and Porsche all-wheel drive. The standard equipment also includes rear-axle steering, the engine mounts from the 911 GT3, and PDCC anti-roll stabilisation. The interplay of all the components results in the 911 Dakar being just as dynamic on sand and loose surfaces as it is on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Maximum off-road performance is also ensured by two new driving modes, which can be selected using the rotary switch on the steering wheel. Rallye mode is ideal for loose, uneven surfaces and features rear-focused all-wheel drive.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In Offroad mode the high clearance is activated automatically. This mode is designed for maximum traction on difficult terrain and on sand. Both of the new driving modes also feature the new Rallye Launch Control, which enables impressive acceleration on loose surfaces and allows wheel slippage of around 20 per cent.

Optionally with roof basket or roof tent as well as Porsche Design chronograph

Additional characteristic features of the 911 Dakar include the newly developed, fixed lightweight rear spoiler made of CFRP and the CFRP front luggage compartment lid with striking air outlets taken from the 911 GT3. There are also standard off-road details such as the red aluminium towing lugs at the front and back, the widened wheel wells and sills and the stainless steel protective elements on the front, rear and side sills. The side air intakes on the redesigned front end are also protected against flying rocks by stainless steel grilles.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The roof of the Porsche 911 Dakar features a visible 12-volt power outlet for the headlights of the optional roof rack. With a capacity of 42 kilograms, the rack can accommodate rallying equipment such as fuel and water canisters, folding shovels and traction boards without any problems. A roof tent is also available for the 911 Dakar.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In the interior, the 911 Dakar underscores its sporting ambitions with standard full bucket seats and the omission of the rear seats. Lightweight glass and a lightweight battery reduce its weight further, enabling the Porsche 911 Dakar to weigh in at just 1,605 kg – a mere 10 kg heavier than the 911 Carrera 4 GTS with PDK.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO  A defining feature of the Dakar interior is the standard Race-Tex surfaces with decorative stitching in Shade Green, which is also exclusively available as a metallic exterior finish for the 911 Dakar. The Rallye Sport Package with roll-over bar, six-point seat belts and fire extinguisher is optional.

Rallye Design Package with styling that echoes that of the 1984 Paris-Dakar-winning rally car

At the heart of the optional Rallye Design Package from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is a two-tone paint finish in White/Gentian Blue Metallic. This is the first time that Porsche has implemented the combination of bi-colour paint and decorative foiling in series production. On the side of the vehicle, the customer can choose an individual race number between 0 and 999.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In addition to the rally stripes in red and gold, the 911 Dakar with Rallye Design Package, whose appearance is based on the winning vehicle of the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally, also bears the "Roughroads" lettering on the doors. The term is a registered trademark and reflects the concept of the 911 Dakar and its suitability for driving off-road.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO  The white-painted rims and the red taillight strip, in contrast to the standard vehicle, round off the distinctive appearance. Further highlights can be found in the interior: Extended Race-Tex and leather surrounds as well as seat belts and accents in Sharkblue.

Porsche Design Chronograph

911 Dakar customers can exclusively order the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 ‒ 911 Dakar or the Chronograph 1 ‒ 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition to match the vehicle.

For the first time, the housing is made of particularly scratch-resistant and light titanium carbide.

 911 Chronograph 1-911 Dakar

Porsche presents the new 911 Dakar, thus reviving the myth of the most famous rally in racing history. Exclusively for buyers of these extraordinary sports cars, Porsche Design is launching the new Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar and the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition

The handcrafted timepieces are a consistent continuation of the iconic design highlights of their motorized role model and inspire with a revolutionary world first: a highly scratch-resistant case made of titanium carbide.

Innovation by Tradition the First Chronograph Case Made of Titanium Carbide

Forty years after Porsche Design became the first watch manufacturer to have a chronograph made of titanium, the in-house manufacturing company in Solothurn, Switzerland, has succeeded in molding a chronograph case from the robust and highly scratch-resistant material titanium carbide.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The intensive five-year development work rigidly followed the innovative spirit of the company founder Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, who once said: “It gives me pleasure to make things better.”

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The smallest scratches caused by fine sand, for example, are now a thing of the past. This means the wearer is ideally equipped when the 911 Dakar gets stuck in the desert sand. Moreover, titanium carbide is not subject to any visible aging process, is hypoallergenic, and even lighter than titanium. The ceramic material can be recognized by its striking black powder–coated look and elegant crystal structure. The new abbreviation “TiC” (titanium carbide) for the innovative material adorns the dial in striking red.

White, Blue, Gold, Red the Colors of a Motorsport Legend

Every time the wearer looks at their wrist, the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar offers optimum readability. The red 60 of the minute scale on the dial catches the eye just as quickly as the red stop hands. In addition, the markings of the small hour display for whole hours are wider than the half-hour markings. The dial in black offers a sporty contrast to the Porsche Design WERK 01.240 with flyback function lettering in red.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With the “911 Dakar” lettering above the date display at 3 o’clock, the chronograph clearly reveals its many similarities with the limited Porsche special model. The Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar Rallye Design evokes memories of a historic motorsport success with an additional rough roads graphic in white, blue, gold, and red in the small seconds: back in 1984, Porsche won the automobile classification of the Paris–Dakar desert rally with the modified 953 in these colors.

Anything but a Mirage

The winding rotor of the watch corresponds to the rim of the Porsche 911 Dakar right down to the smallest detail. Analogous to the vehicle configuration, the rim design of the two timepieces is available in black satin and solid white. For the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar, the winding rotor is also available in Vesuvius gray. Should the choice fall on black satin gloss or Vesuvius gray, the rim ring is in brilliant silver.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The modern Porsche crest adorns the central cap in the selected rim color. Set into a titanium case back, the rotor and Porsche Design WERK 01.240 are protected from the next sandstorm by a scratch-resistant sapphire glass with seven-fold anti-reflective coating. The pushers and crown are also made of titanium. The engraved limitation number on the case back emphasizes the close connection to the Porsche 911 Dakar, which is also limited and bears the same number.

COSC-Certified Caliber with Flyback Function

The COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.240 features a flyback function that combines starting, stopping, and resetting in a single operation. This makes the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar the perfect companion for the next great adventure in which every second counts.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The quick-change system of the high-quality straps also works in the same spirit, enabling the leather straps to be exchanged without the use of tools. The strap made of black leather including contrast stitching in Shadegreen and a perforation with backing made of Race-Tex in Shadegreen is derived from the seat middle of the Porsche 911 Dakar

The leather strap for the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition also immediately reveals the inspiration from the seat middle with black leather and contrast stitching as well as a perforation with backing made of Race-Tex in Shark Blue.
