LOUIS MOINET – SIDERALIS Red Aventurine Tourbillon Gold

LOUIS MOINETSIDERALIS Red Aventurine Double Tourbillon Pink Gold Limited Edition

Sideralis opens a whole new window on the heavens

Sideralis is a heavenly theatre in which many different variations can come into their own. This red aventurine version offers outstanding aesthetic consistency, featuring a pink gold case and showcasing Louis Moinet’s double tourbillon in all its majesty.

Sideralis boasts a distinctive red aventurine caseback. Aventurine is the product of an experiment by a seventeenth-century glass worker, who dipped copper flakes into molten glass. The constellation of sparkling particles produced a beautiful effect – and aventurine was born.

Red aventurine, however, is far less well-known than its blue counterpart. That makes it especially appropriate for this very limited edition of twelve Sideralis watches. Its reddish-brown hues form an exceptional heavenly background, hand-painted to resemble the outer reaches of the kind of distant galaxy Louis Moinet himself loved to explore during his astronomical observations.

4.5 million years on your wrist

The time dial, situated at 12 o’clock, comprises two discs, one atop the other. The upper disc is also made from red aventurine. It completes one counter-clockwise rotation every 60 seconds and has a circular opening through which the three planets painted on the lower disc can be glimpsed: Mars, the Moon, and Mercury. “Each of the micro-paintings includes genuine dust from the heavenly body in question: a fragment of Mars, moon dust, and extremely rare fragments of the Rosetta Stone, whose scientific name is Sahara 99555. This stone has travelled across the universe to reach us, and is the oldest known to mankind – four and half billion years old. Scientists believe it comes from Mercury,” explains Jean-Marie Schaller.

From a technical point of view, the highlight is the Double Tourbillon. This movement, first unveiled less than two years ago, is a Louis Moinet exclusive. These two tourbillons are especially extraordinary.

Special feature number one

Both the tourbillons are oversized, with cages measuring 14.9 mm – half as big again as the average, resulting in the largest assembly of two tourbillons ever to have existed.

Aside from our exacting chronometric standards, this approach adds a fascinating visual dimension to the watch; a touch of magic that we’ve decided to gift to lovers of fine watches, just so they can contemplate beauty and horological art in all its splendour,” adds Jean-Marie Schaller.

Special feature number two

The two tourbillons are designed to be physically above the movement – above the dial, even. The two raised cages are large as life and wholly visible, revealing balance wheels with beautifully styled screws – and an absolutely incomparable aesthetic appearance.

Special feature number three

The tourbillons rotate in opposite directions. The continuous coming and going, side by side, is not just for stylistic reasons; the counter-rotation provides the motive power required for the star mechanism – the Sideralis complication – located at twelve o’clock.

This exceptional Sideralis variation in red aventurine comes in a 47.4-millimetre pink gold case.

LOUIS MOINET – ACASTA & DHOFAR Double Tourbillon

LOUIS MOINETACASTA & DHOFAR Double Tourbillon Engraved Gold 46 Limited Edition

4 billion years on your wrist

We’re continuing to explore space and time, the two dimensions that were such a source of inspiration for Louis Moinet, himself a watchmaker and astronomer. Our two latest creations, Acasta and Dhofar, give wearers their very own fragment of space – a piece of eternity – on their wrist.

Take a piece of moon rock, one of the rarest in the universe. Only a hundred or so lunar meteorites have ever been found. This one is called Dhofar 457, named after the southernmost region of the Sultanate of Oman, on the border with Yemen.

Its journey began some three thousand years ago, when it was ejected from the Moon. After a galactic odyssey over a distance of more than 380,000 kilometres through the cosmos, it finally came to rest on the dunes in the Dhofar desert, where it was discovered by meteorite hunter Luc Labenne – his first ever moon rock find. Now, Louis Moinet has made it into a watch, with an outstanding dial cut from a fragment of this lunar meteorite.

Then too, take a piece of Acasta gneiss – a rock that has had to withstand the forces of erosion and tectonics for four billion years. It’s a fragment of the early earth’s crust, preserved intact ever since. Today, thanks to Louis Moinet, Acasta too has become an outstanding dial on which to display the time.

These two exceptional timepieces share the same movement, exclusive to Louis Moinet. Suspended in mid-air, the two tourbillon cages weigh a mere 0.4 grammes each, but nonetheless generate enough energy to power a rotating disc – made from blue-tinted titanium and featuring openwork arabesque patterns – placed atop of each of the pieces, adding a further touch of mystery.

The two tourbillons rotate in opposite directions – a first in watchmaking. The diameter of each of the cages is 14.9 millimetres, making them the largest double tourbillons in the world. Raised 1.75 millimetres above the dial, their blue-tinted titanium upper bridges gleam in mid-air, with the mechanism’s openwork finish delivering the ultimate in refinement.

The concept of these exceptional timepieces highlights the power of nature – gracefully expressed thanks to an artful human touch. The avant-garde cases of the Acasta and the Dhofar feature an all-new, intricate design. The two openwork side bridges are crafted from blocks of solid gold, while the 5N rose gold case is fully hand-engraved. Just three Acasta watches and three Dhofar watches will be available.

LOUIS MOINET – SIDERALIS Evo Double Tourbillon Gold Edition

LOUIS MOINET SIDERALIS Evo Double Tourbillon Rose Gold Limited Edition

Sideralis by Louis Moinet - An interstellar
inverted double tourbillon

Sideralis, Louis Moinet’s interstellar double tourbillon, is back in orbit

In unveiling the Ateliers’ latest creation, Louis Moinet’s CEO Jean-Marie Schaller waxes lyrical – and that speaks volumes in itself.

Sideralis was a turning-point for us. It’s a highly technical piece, featuring a world first, and protected by two patents. It allows us to combine our astral theme with an exclusive complication, thus enhancing a dial full of life – one of our hallmarks at Louis Moinet. The lightness of the Sideralis EVO, and more particularly of its new outsize tourbillon cages, embodies this sense of space. The deep blue echoing the astral micro-painting reinforces an overall sense of coherence, illuminated by the new rose gold case – as if by sunlight itself.

EVO is the name of this new, very limited-edition version of Sideralis. It takes up the general concept of Sideralis in a skeletonised, openwork offering, made available here in rose gold.

To date, Sideralis is quite simply unparalleled anywhere else in the world of watchmaking, and is protected by two patent applications. Over and above purely technical considerations, Sideralis makes an unequivocal statement: Louis Moinet is perhaps the last fully-independent firm to be investing in new movements with the sole aim of inspiring awe among lovers of fine watches.

This unique approach is based on three special features that are the essence of Sideralis:

Sidereal – and staggering

Sideralis is structured around two especially extraordinary tourbillons:

Special feature number one

Both of these tourbillons are oversized, with cages measuring 14.9 mm – half as big again as the average. This is the largest assembly of two tourbillons ever to have existed. “Aside from our exacting chronometric standards, this approach adds a fascinating visual dimension to the watch; a touch of magic that we’ve decided to gift to lovers of fine watches, just so they can contemplate beauty and horological art in all its splendour,” explains Jean-Marie Schaller.

Special feature number two

The tourbillons rotate in opposite directions, driving the Sideralis complication: two discs, one atop the other, which also rotate in opposite directions, orchestrating the ballet of the stars on the time dial, and revealing a succession of tiny hand-painted vignettes. The discs depict the planet Mars, the Moon, and Mercury, one after the other.

Special feature number three

The two raised cages are large as life and wholly visible, revealing balance wheels with beautifully styled screws – and an absolutely incomparable aesthetic appearance.

Now, tourbillons move the planets

For the first time ever, a complication is driven by a double tourbillon: a time dial, situated at 12 o’clock, comprising two discs, one atop the other. The top one features a tiny hand-painted picture. This hand-crafted marvel depicts the universe and its constellations of stars and planets, painted one by one on a dark blue sidereal background. The animation completes one counter-clockwise rotation every 60 seconds.

At 12 o’clock on this upper disc there is a circular opening, through which can be glimpsed the three planets painted on the lower disc, seen to be rotating in the opposite direction at the same speed. The feature represents a wholly new conceptual and artistic approach.
Mars, Mercury and the Moon – physically present

Through the opening, the lower disc reveals the planet

Mars, the Moon, and Mercury in succession. “These three bodies have not been chosen at random,” says Jean-Marie Schaller. Each of the micro-paintings includes genuine dust from the heavenly body in question: a fragment of Mars, moon dust, and extremely rare fragments of the Rosetta Stone, whose scientific name is Sahara 99555. This stone has travelled across the universe to reach us: it’s the oldest known to mankind, believed by the scientific community to have come from Mercury and to be four and half billion years old. Fragments of meteorites from Mars, the Moon and Sahara 99555 also appear on the lower disc, positioned between the planets, floating in the cosmos, or included in a hand-painted shooting star.”

The inverted double tourbillon, powering an exclusive complication, is an unprecedented innovation, with two patents pending to protect it. The Sideralis caliber is also fully exclusive to Louis Moinet, mounted on a hand-painted aventurine dial that matches the universe depicted on the time disc.

Sideralis by Louis Moinet - An interstellar

Baselworld 2016

Sideralis is an invitation to embark on an interstellar journey – a whole new kind of discovery that’s singularly technical and poetic”
