Guilloché is a traditional technique, which engraves detailed, interwoven lines on surfaces, creating unique light patterns. Chronoswiss excels in this art, producing dials with precise, radiating designs using two main guilloché machines: the straight-line and rose engine. Despite the absence of manuals for over two centuries,

Master-Guillocheurs have maintained their expertise through a deep understanding of these machines. Creating one of those complex dials takes several hours. Not in Lucerne however, where Chronoswiss is manufacturing unique timepiece inside its Atelier. For the family run watch brand, a little breeze has never been the mindset of choice: It is about more, about moving fast & breaking things if necessary.

Consequently, nothing less than a wildly escalating Hurricane has been captured in a pitch black 44mm DLC case. The stunning high frequency guilloché sets the scene on the all-black 3-dimensional dial of the newest Open Gear ReSec.

The shape of a moving Hurricane was created by hand with the aid of a century-old rose-engine turning machine in the Chronoswiss atelier & appears to storm through all levels of the dial, that is in fact part of the movement.

It seems as if the relentless Hurricane has revealed the raw mechanics that other watch brands carefully hide. A closer look uncovers even more complex finishes and complications. While the hour ring hovers far above the ground, the bridge spanning the 120-degree 30-second retrograde second stands strong in the eye of the Hurricane like a beacon in rough sea.

The newest Chronoswiss ReSec has an unparalleled depth and a provocative dark and dangerous feel due to its black coating. Finally, when the night lays its shade over the Hurricane the massive Super-LumiNova pillars that are used for the five-minute markers enlighten the dark.

The flowing Guilloche pattern was created on a century old machine in the Atelier Lucerne & each visible part of the elaborate construction is coloured differently. The CVD-coating technique used for the colouring, allows the timepiece not only to shine but also to change its colours depending on the incidence of light.

The all new Chronoswiss 41-millimetre Flying Regulator Open Gear Purple Haze screams out this brand ethos. Its deep purple color is both omnipresent and uncompromising. The fully in-house created Chronoswiss regulator features a hand guillochéd dial with 60 individually drawn lines glowing deep purple. Those flowing, handmade shapes are inspired by the clash of Rockstar Jimi Hendrix and Chronos, the Greek god of time.

Maik Panziera, Head Designer of Chronoswiss, creates each of these inimitable lines by hand in the Lucerne Atelier using a 100-year-old machine. The guilloché pattern on the Purple Haze reflects Jimi Hendrix melody of life: Apparently simple, but in fact extremely complex. The gap between one line and the next for example is a mere 0.275mm. By the way: Story has it that Maik listens to heavy metal when creating the dials for the Purple Haze…
