Its multi-level construction features a lacquered finish combined with a refined Clou de Paris center, separated by a distinctive screwed-in ring that highlights the contrast between the two surfaces.

 A distinctive “bague” elegantly frames the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, separating it from the hour indices with a subtle change in texture — a hallmark of Cuervo y Sobrinos’ dedication to artisanal craftsmanship.

Key elements of the dial are elegantly engraved on the dial: the emblem with red accents, Cuervo y Sobrinos, 1882, and Habana – features always present in the new models.

 Working in collaboration with the prestigious retailer of epicurean delights, The House of Grauer, Cuervo y Sobrinos has crafted a vintage-themed limited edition watch. The Robusto Pedro Murias pays homage to the son of Cuba and the home of its extraordinary business, ‘La Meridiana Fabrica de tabacos de Pedro Murias’. With its salmon dial, tastefully enriched with nuanced details, a 38.5 mm steel case equipped with an automatic Swiss movement, this latest model is designed to appeal to watch enthusiasts, cigar aficionados and individuals who appreciate Cuban design. “We are very proud of this collaboration with House of Grauer; this partnership fully reflects Cuervo y Sobrinos DNA,” said Massimo Rossi, CEO of the company.

Pedro Murias began making cigars in the 1860s in a modest workshop in downtown Havana. As the popularity for cigars grew, so did Murias’ reputation. Ultimately, in 1882, such was the enormous demand for his products, Murias moved to a new two-storey building, ‘La Meridiana Fabrica de tabacos de Pedro Murias’

The factory, located on Calle Zulueta, nowadays known as Calle Agramonte, was close to the central train station, ideal for the leaves' transit from Vuelta Abajo, Cuba’s finest tobacco-growing region. Widely considered one of the most important factories in Havana at that time, La Meridiana occupied over 1500 m2 and produced some of the finest cigars.

In the latter part of the 19th century, the Cuban War of Independence (1895-1898) significantly impacted on Pedro’s company. Industrial action at La Meridiana and difficulties in obtaining supplies of tobacco, blighted its business, ultimately leading to it being sold in parts to both English and American buyers. The former cigar factory still stands but is nowadays intended for residential use.

Working in collaboration with The House of Grauer, based in Geneva, Cuervo y Sobrinos pays homage to Pedro Murias with a new limited edition watch, the Robusto Pedro Murias.

Guarded within the confines of the sumptuous Cigar Lounge, home to Europe’s largest walk-in humidor, is an impressive collection of Pedro Murias artefacts for the delectation of historians and cigar afficionados alike.

Limited to just 100 pieces, the Robusto Pedro Murias brims with Cuban style. Featuring a salmon-hued dial, framed with a contrasting chemin de fer, the watch is endowed with plump, silver-toned hour and minute hands. These generously sized hands are complemented by bold Arabic-style indices. Both the hands and indices are lined with cream Super-LumiNova®, augmenting legibility in dim light and imbuing the display with a vintage look.

A silver-coloured small seconds hand graces the subdial at 6 o’ clock. The combination of cream and brown hues confers contrast, delivers lucidity and bestows a tasteful dose of period charm.

Housed in a 38.5 mm stainless steel case, the watch can be embellished with a dark brown leather strap with tone on tone stitching or a 3-rows stainless steel bracelet. The polished case is intricately shaped. For example, the crown nestles in a recessed section of the caseband while a similar recess, positioned adjacent to 9 o’clock, grants an agreeable dose of symmetry.

To the rear of the watch, the caseback is engraved with a depiction of the ‘La Meridiana Fabrica de tabacos de Pedro Murias’, a place where excellence was the order of the day. The model is fitted with the CYS 5159 (base SW261) automatic calibre.
