ArtyA – COMPLICATION Complexity Two Tourbillon Sapphire Edition

ArtyACOMPLICATION Complexity Two Tourbillon Sapphire Edition  - 2026

 HIGH COMPLEXITY
Double Cônillon 12H / 6H  ·  A Total Mechanical Spectacle
World premiere

Presented for the first time at Watches & Wonders 2026, the Complexity is ArtyA's centrepiece for this edition. In watchmaking, certain feats transcend mere complication. The inclined tourbillon, or Cônillon, is one such achievement: in this rare variant, the balance wheel's axis does not trace a cylindrical path as in the Breguet tradition, but a conical trajectory, compensating for the effects of gravity according to a radically different geometry.

ArtyA Genève crosses an unprecedented threshold with the Complexity: for the first time in horological history, two inclined tourbillons are positioned at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock within the movement, according to a spatial architecture of rare complexity in which none of the axes of the balance, the cage, and the pallet fork are parallel to one another, ensuring absolute precision across all positions.

A double inclined tourbillon system with differential coupling, achieving a kinematic average of rate errors in order to smooth out gravity-induced deviations across positions, chronometric optimisation at 360 degrees.

The Double Inclined Tourbillon 12h / 6h

A World First

In a classical tourbillon (Breguet, 1801), the balance wheel's axis travels along a cylinder. In the inclined tourbillon, this axis traces a conical path during its rotation, compensating for the effects of gravity across several vertical positions simultaneously - whereas an ordinary tourbillon corrects only one.

The Complexity unites two such inclined tourbillons on an axis positioned at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. In this unprecedented configuration, none of the axes of the balance, the cage, and the pallet fork are parallel to one another.

Lineage: Éric Coudray and the Gyrotourbillon

The inclined tourbillon of the Complexity belongs to the lineage of Éric Coudray's work - one of the world's foremost authorities on complex tourbillons, to whom we owe in particular the development of the gyrotourbillon. It is from this expertise, and from the mastery of multi-axis mechanisms it has engendered, that the architecture of the Complexity's double inclined tourbillon at 12 and 6 o'clock originates.

Historically, the Cônillon traces its origins to the work of Andrew Holden Potter, circa 1860.

Double Inclined Tourbillon with Differential: What It Delivers

A classical tourbillon compensates for the effects of gravity in a single vertical position. The inclined tourbillon, whose balance wheel's axis traces a conical path, extends this correction to several positions simultaneously. Pairing two of them at 12 and 6 o'clock means covering the full range of vertical orientations the watch may assume on the wrist.

The differential is the keystone of this architecture: it distributes the energy from the barrel in a perfectly balanced manner between the two inclined tourbillons. Without it, any asymmetry in torque would translate into a rate discrepancy between the two regulators. With it, both cages continuously receive identical energy, guaranteeing a chronometric stability that neither tourbillon alone could achieve.

The result is regulation of a precision and consistency unprecedented in this configuration, delivered through a mechanical spectacle without equal: two inclined tourbillons in perpetual rotation, simultaneously visible from the dial, within their transparent sapphire case.

The Differential

A differential ensures the balanced distribution of energy between the two Cônillons. This additional mechanism guarantees that each cage receives an identical torque regardless of the winding position of the barrel - an indispensable condition for the chronometric stability of this twin-regulator architecture.

An Exceptional Movement

The Complexity calibre is developed in collaboration with Purtec Sàrl (Vallorbe), specialists in innovative horological complications. Its 287 components and 44 jewels are the fruit of thousands of hours of engineering dedicated to resolving the challenges posed by the double inclined tourbillon at 12 and 6 o'clock: dynamic balance, energy transmission via the differential, and the preservation of precision within an architecture without precedent.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The extraordinary team at Purtec worked with remarkable energy to rise to this ambitious challenge set by ArtyA, delivering a very high watchmaking movement of irreproachable execution - mastered down to the finest details and pursued with exemplary consistency from the first concept through to the ultimate finishing, in perfect accordance with the traditions of contemporary haute horlogerie.

Confronted with extreme demands, ArtyA's vision asserted itself as the driving force behind an exceptional realisation.

The movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and offers 50 hours of power reserve with manual winding. Its plate adopts an organic silhouette, with two apertures at 12 and 6 o'clock precisely dimensioned to house and expose the two inclined tourbillons beneath their respective sapphire domes.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Thus, each Conillion completes a 30 seconds rotation, while their offbeat rotating directions create a mesmerizing, kaleidoscopic mechanical spectacle of exceptional depth. Engineered with a notably robust architecture, this movement offers enhanced shock resistance, surpassing mechanisms such as a gyro-tourbillon, thereby asserting a new vision of haute horlogerie.

Finishes & Decoration

The Complexity benefits from a level of finishing befitting grand watchmaking. Each component is treated individually:

3h and 9h flanks in étiré carbon, characteristic satin texture
Entire movement in fine sandblasting, homogeneous and luminous surface
Hand-polished bevelling, each chamfered edge individually polished
Rear face shot-blasted (top surface), exclusive micro-granular texture
Laser engravings: ArtyA Genève logo, calibre cartouche, drawn lines
Laser engravings highlighted with matt black lacquer

The Dial

Griffe Dial

The Griffe dial is crafted with a Rhodium Black surface treatment. Its 3D engraving by point cloud creates scratches radiating from the centre in every direction, like the luminous traces of a stellar explosion.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The contrast between this deeply textured ground and the hand mirror-polished applied baton indices is striking: light breaks across every edge, revealing the micrometric precision of the work.

Matte Dial

The Matte dial offers a more refined alternative: a uniform shot-blasted treatment creates a velvety matte texture across the entire surface.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The absence of any engraving direction lends the dial a serene, almost mineral depth. The hand-polished applied indices emerge from the ground with absolute clarity. Two characters, two philosophies - the same exigency of execution.

The Case

ArtyA Genève, pioneer of sapphire watchmaking for over 15 years, has conceived for the Complexity a specific case of a new organic form, not only to pay tribute to the fluid character of sapphire but also to underscore the brand's mastery of machining this complex material while honouring this exceptional movement. This organic architecture with its curved flanks envelops the movement like a sapphire cocoon. Its two domes, at 12 o'clock for the inclined tourbillon and at 6 o'clock for the second, act as natural magnifying lenses, amplifying the mechanical depth and rendering every detail of the cages visible to the naked eye.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The triple-concave middle, visible in lateral view, confers upon the watch a rare organic elegance. The faceted crown, cut from the same crystal as the case, extends the visual identity across every angle.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The restrained proportions of this double-horn case, measuring 42 by 48 mm, are expressed through a delicately curved architecture designed to follow the natural contour of the wrist.

Despite its high complication, this timepiece offers exceptional wearability and a perfectly balanced presence on the wrist.

A pioneer in the machining of synthetic sapphire for over fifteen years, ArtyA Genève has developed for the Complexity a case entirely fashioned from this material of extreme hardness (9 on the Mohs scale), whose exceptionally complex shaping requires rare diamond machining processes of the highest precision, a mastery achievable only in Switzerland, with over 120 hours of machining and more than 140 hours of polishing.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Its complex organic geometry is not merely aesthetic: it is conceived to optimise the structural resistance of the crystal while offering maximum visibility onto the architecture of the movement. The curved flanks envelop the mechanics within a continuous volume, limiting internal stresses while reinforcing overall rigidity.

The two integrated optical domes - at 12 o'clock for the inclined tourbillon and at 6 o'clock for the second regulator - are polished to high optical tolerances so as to function as genuine lenses. They enhance legibility and the perception of depth without notable distortion, allowing detailed observation of the cages in operation.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The triple-concave middle, particularly complex to realise in solid sapphire, requires successive 5-axis machining and hand-polishing operations to obtain perfectly continuous surfaces free of micro-defects. This construction contributes to visually lightening the volume while preserving great mechanical integrity.

The faceted crown, likewise cut in sapphire, demands an extremely delicate finishing operation to preserve transparency and the absence of edges. Crafted from the same sapphire as the case, it ensures total structural and aesthetic coherence.

Materials

  • Transparent Sapphire - synthetic sapphire crystal, transparent through 360°

  • Pigeon's Blood Ruby - synthetic ruby of deep and luminous red, transparent

The Variants

The Complexity is offered in two configurations, combining two dial types and two case materials, with dial colour variants. Each piece is individually numbered within the limited edition.

Genesis & Design

The Complexity was born from an obsession: to unite within a single timepiece the most ambitious mechanical complication ever conceived by ArtyA, and a case capable of revealing it in its full dimension.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The design of the entire case, movement, and dial is the work of Jérémie Arpa - son of the founder and the Maison's designer. Its organic curves, its sapphire domes at 12 and 6 o'clock, and its triple-concave middle are not the fruit of a technical brief but of a vision: that of a setting which exists solely to reveal what it contains. Father and son, mechanics and design - a fully family creation.

« The Complexity is an extreme and spectacular mechanical sculpture, conceived to be admired from every angle while magnifying the chronometry and absolute precision that define the very essence of this watch. »
Yvan Arpa, Founder of ArtyA Genève

The original sketches - of the case, the movement, and the dial alike - bear witness to this twin quest: form and mechanics conceived simultaneously, each in service of the other.

The first-ever introduction of silicon carbide into the art of
watchmaking.

Artya presents the Purity Moissanite Curvy Tourbillon: Integrating silicon carbide into the art of watchmaking for the first time.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

There are materials that the universe forged before humanity existed. Moissanite is one of them. ArtyA Genève has chosen this silicon carbide of cosmic origin to sculpt one of the most ambitious cases in contemporary watchmaking: the Purity Moissanite Curvy Tourbillon, a crystal watch where light becomes mechanics, and mechanics becomes light. With this timepiece, ArtyA continues its exploration of extreme materials with a crystalline case designed to reveal the mechanics of a manufacture tourbillon with a curved architecture.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

More than a case, the moissanite here becomes a true optical lens, amplifying the depth of the movement and projecting a rainbow fire with every movement of the wrist.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Discovered in 1893 by French physicist Henri Moissan in a meteorite crater, moissanite is a silicon carbide with exceptional physical and optical properties. Unlike sapphire, an aluminium oxide, moissanite has a radically different atomic structure and characteristics, combining extreme resistance with incomparable brilliance.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With a hardness of between 9.25 and 9.5 on the Mohs scale, it is the second hardest material known after diamond, making its machining formidably complex.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

But it is above all its optical behaviour that fascinates: moissanite has a dispersion index of 0.104, more than double that of diamond (0.044). This phenomenon generates a spectacular decomposition of light into a multitude of colours. Each facet acts as a miniature prism, transforming the case into a living luminous sculpture.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Machining this material requires the development of exclusive processes capable of working a crystal whose melting point exceeds 2,700°C and whose resistance far exceeds that of traditional watchmaking materials.

"In 2023, ArtyA presented at Only Watch the world’s very first watch with a round case entirely sculpted in moissanite. Today, the Maison pushes the boundaries even further with a tonneau case architecture featuring complex curves."

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Far more complex than sapphire, moissanite demands extreme mastery and unique expertise. It is Stanislas Arpa, son of the founder, who leads both the creative vision and the development of exclusive machining processes for this exceptional material, establishing within the Geneva workshops an entirely novel know-how with no equivalent in the global watchmaking industry.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

ArtyA is today the only Maison in the world to possess this expertise. Its subtle champagne hue, of rare sophistication, reveals the full luminous nobility of the material.

A curvilinear architecture

The geometry of the Curvy case further accentuates the visual experience. Its polished volumes and crystalline surfaces create a subtle optical distortion that gives the impression that the movement is floating inside a stellar gemstone.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The flanks of the case act as a natural magnifying glass, amplifying the depth of the mechanism and the hypnotic rotation of the tourbillon. This singular formal language confers upon each ArtyA creation its incomparable identity. The case reveals a spectacularly intense rainbow play of light, enhanced by a complex faceting composed of 65 facets.

The PUR-T3 Curvy Tourbillon manufacture calibre

At the heart of this crystalline architecture beats the PUR-T3 Curvy Tourbillon manufacture calibre, developed to follow the curved lines of the case. Its asymmetric architecture showcases the hours and minutes display offset at 12 o’clock, and a tourbillon positioned at 6 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The movement operates at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and is powered by two barrels mounted in parallel, guaranteeing stable torque delivery and a generous power reserve of 65 hours guaranteed, with a maximum of 70 to 72 hours. Rare are Swiss manufacture tourbillons beating at 4 Hz, most oscillate between 2.5 and 3 Hz, and this elevated frequency significantly enhances chronometric stability.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The tourbillon is regulated using the traditional method via timing weights (masselottes), rather than the more common regulator (raquette) approach. This method, rooted in the great watchmaking tradition, enables finer and more precise adjustment, with each weight positioned to the micron to individually tune the rate in each position. A choice of high horology, more demanding to implement, that testifies to the level of manufacturing excellence at ArtyA.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Notably, the upper tourbillon cage bridge measures an impressive 17 mm, a remarkable dimension that underscores the architectural boldness and visual impact of the mechanism.

Finishing

The movement benefits from a contemporary finishing approach blending matte textures with traditional bevelling. The bridges and mainplate are fine-sandblasted, while several components are shot-blasted with cast iron and hand-bevelled.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The tourbillon cage receives this demanding treatment: shot-blasting with cast iron balls followed by manual bevelling on all edges, revealing the geometry of the structure. A NAC grey galvanic treatment underlines the architectural depth of the movement.
