Instrument de Mesures
Triple scale

Telemeter, pulsometer, tachymeter: Angelus unites the chronograph’s key functional scales in a single design. True to its heritage as a maker of functional timepieces, Angelus brings together the expertise developed through its previous instruments in the Instrument de Mesures.

Produced in two limited editions of 25 pieces, this watch is a genuine instrument of measurement, designed to calculate elapsed time, the speed of sound, distance travelled and heart rate. Using a single chronograph hand, it integrates three functions, each with its own dedicated scale.

Housed in a 39 mm steel case, its three-dimensional dial is both highly legible and meticulously graduated, giving the Instrument de Mesures the character of an authentic tool watch with a distinctive vintage charm and singular identity.

This new piece follows in the footsteps of the of 2023, the Instrument de Vitesse launched in 2024 and the Chronographe Télémètre, winner of the Chronograph Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horologie de Genève in 2025

The Instrument de Mesures represents the culmination of these earlier creations, bringing   together their three signature scales – a telemeter, a pulsometer and a tachymeter – within a single watch.

Two editions

The Instrument de Mesures is available in two limited editions of 25 pieces. The first features an ebony-black dial, with the scales arranged from the outer edge towards the centre in shades of blue, orange and cream.

The second pairs an ivory-white dial with blue, red and green markings. The finely grained surface of the dials is complemented by syringe hands, a design signature directly inspired by the 1960s chronographs that Angelus pays tribute to here.

At 39 mm in diameter, the steel case combines balanced proportions with a slender profile. The twisted lugs flow naturally from the case band, creating a fluid and harmonious silhouette.

The bezel’s simplicity gives the dial centre stage. And beneath a box-shaped sapphire crystal, the generous dial opening highlights what makes the Instrument de Mesures unique: its multiple graduated scales, designed to provide a clear and intuitive reading of its various functions.

Three scales

The telemeter gauges the distance to a sound-producing event by calculating the time elapsed between seeing it and hearing it. The pulsometer makes it easy to measure heart rate: simply count 15 beats to obtain a pulse reading.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Finally, the tachymeter determines an object’s average speed over a distance of one kilometre. On the Instrument de Mesures the scale covers speeds from 20 km/h to 500 km/h.

The various scales are straightforward to use. To measure an event, just start the chronograph using the single pusher integrated into the crown. A second press stops it at the end of the measurement.

The position of the central seconds hand on the corresponding scale immediately indicates the result. Pressing the pusher a third time resets the chronograph to zero, ready for a new measurement.

Four sections

Integrating these three scales alongside the essential minute track required a particularly sophisticated design approach.

The amount of information to be displayed, combined with the need for legibility and clarity, led Angelus to adopt a distinct colour code for each function. This arrangement is reinforced by a three-dimensional dial construction, featuring a domed centre and outer edge connected by a sloping intermediate section.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To achieve the necessary depth, Angelus implemented an innovative manufacturing process that involved laser-cutting directly into the material. The markings appear to emerge subtly from the dial, present without compromising legibility.

The telemetric scale is situated on the highest level at the periphery of the dial. The pulsometer extends across the angled intermediate section, and the tachymeter, in the form of a spiral, is located closest to the hands.

Designed according to a rigorous visual hierarchy, this three-dimensional construction naturally draws attention to the essential information.

A functional approach that perfectly embodies the vocation of the Instrument de Mesures as a true instrument watch conceived above all as a tool for reading and measurement.

Five thousand

The Instrument de Mesures is powered by Angelus’s in-house A5000 chronograph calibre. Its classical architecture showcases numerous intricately shaped components, providing an ideal canvas for high-end finishing. The abundance of bevelled edges is a testament to the Manufacture’s traditional craftsmanship.

Visible through the sapphire case back, the chronograph mechanism immediately draws the eye. Its palladium-treated elements stand out strikingly against the rest of the movement, which has a 3N gilded finish. This contrast emphasises the complexity of the construction and highlights all the components involved in time measurement.

Faithful to the great traditions of chronograph watchmaking, the A5000 incorporates a column wheel and a horizontal clutch, both defining features of traditional chronographs. A technical choice that combines mechanical refinement, operating pleasure and fidelity to the vintage spirit that defines the watch.

ANGELUS – LA FABRIQUE Tinkler 1958 Repeater Editions

Tinkler 1958
Precision at a quarter turn

A faithful tribute to the original model, the Tinkler 1958 repeater celebrates Angelus’s rich heritage of striking watches.

Driven by a self-winding quarter-repeater movement, this double limited edition, available in gold or steel, continues the tradition of measuring instruments that built the manufacture’s reputation.

Sound – at the origin of Angelus

From its establishment in 1891, the name Angelus has been synonymous with the chiming of a bell. A ringing that has resonated throughout history, marking time in towns and villages long before personal timepieces were invented.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Almost exactly 130 years ago, on 15 April 1896, the brothers Albert and Gustav Stolz filed one of the Maison’s first patents for ‘a silent strike governor for repeater mechanisms’. Since then, repeater mechanisms have always been at the heart of Angelus collections.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Putting this technical philosophy to meaningful use, Angelus designed Braille- repeating watches for soldiers blinded during the First World War. They indicated time using sound or touch through hour markers paired with Braille markers – an approach to watchmaking in which technology was fully dedicated to functionality.

Angelus went on to direct its research to other complications and patented several major inventions, including the famous Chronodate in 1942. In the 1950s, Angelus returned to repeater mechanisms, filing a patent for ‘a striking wristwatch’ in 1958. This was immediately followed by the Tinkler, equipped with this patented movement and considered a pioneer of water-resistant, self-winding quarter-repeater watches.

An original tribute

Inspired by this glorious history, Angelus is today reissuing one of its rarest, most refined models: the Tinkler, based on the original 1958 edition. The gold version is limited to 15 pieces, while the steel version is limited to 25.

The 38-mm case charms with a decidedly 1950s aesthetic – clean, understated and elegant. At 9 o’clock, the crown is balanced by a pusher that activates the quarter repeater, a functional and historical hallmark of the model.

The screw-down case back bears the ‘A’ monogram, a discrete yet distinct reminder of the Maison’s identity.

The subtly domed white sunburst dial features the hour markers characteristic of the original piece. At noon, the modernist-style numeral 12 underscores the watch’s character, while at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock – key positions for the quarter repeater – distinctive, exclamation-shaped hour markers appear. Complex and delicate, with a gilded finish, these dial elements complete a faithful tribute to the heritage of Angelus.

The Tinkler 1958 comes on an alligator flank leather strap, an original choice that further enhances the watch’s vintage and idiosyncratic character. The leather is a deep ink blue for the 18-carat gold version and a warm saddle brown for the steel model. The pin buckle, matching the case, comes in gold or stainless steel.

Precision, striking, refinement

The Tinkler 1958 edition is driven by the new Angelus A600 calibre. On request, by pressing the pusher at 9 o’clock, it strikes the hours and the quarters. Each hour is marked by a clear strike on the first gong.

If necessary, the calibre then performs a double strike on two gongs to signal each quarter hour, up to a maximum of three sequences. True to its heritage as a maker of measuring instruments, Angelus takes an acoustic approach that is both distinctive and accessible. The Tinkler collection features clear, precise, striking

The Angelus A600 self-winding mechanical calibre beats at 4 Hz and offers a 70-hour power reserve.

Its finishing demonstrates the watchmaker’s attention to detail: snail-finished main plate, palladium-plated bridges adorned with Côtes de Genève with polished angles, rimmed wheels, blued and chamfered screws with mirror-polished heads, and a tungsten sunburst oscillating weight.

A tradition of specialities

Throughout its history, Angelus has consistently defined itself as a maker of speciality watches.

Even today, within its La Fabrique line, the Maison offers only collections featuring functions dedicated to a particular activity, profession or specialised use.

Its speciality chronographs – for motor racing, medical use and telemeter measurement – attest to this. The Tinkler 1958 is part of this famous legacy, the modern embodiment of daring yet functional tradition.

ANGELUS - CHRONODATE Gold & CHRONODATE Titanium Moka Editions

Mocha is a word that conjures up delicious, roasted flavours that blend sweetness and intensity. It also evokes the amber colour adorning the new dials in the Chronodate collection. Paired with a multi-material case and the A-500 self-winding chronograph calibre, this chocolate-tinged theme also extends to the large scales of an alligator strap.

Between golden hues and satin-finished textures, the mocha spirit reveals the richness of a refined universe in two limited editions: five red-gold timepieces and twenty-five titanium timepieces.

Since its return in a neo-retro style, Chronodate has been offering a fusion of two different styles: Angelus, the historic brand imbued with Swiss watchmaking heritage, and Angelus, the modern, technical brand with a penchant for extreme complications. This subtle marriage is what defines the collection.

Preparation

These Chronodate Moka editions come in a complex 42.5 mm case that combines carbon composite with either red gold (5N) or titanium (grade 5). The movement is housed in a container machined from a rigid yet lightweight carbon-fibre-based composite. The chronograph pushers, also in carbon composite, are applied directly to this chamber.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Around this container, Angelus has designed an openworked cradle that unites the case middle and lugs in a single line. This ensemble also houses a fixed bezel marked with twelve notches. This modular superstructure makes it possible to offer one or more materials.

The energy emanating from this chamfered profile and from the alternating straight and curved lines gives the Chronodate Moka a full-bodied feel.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

On the case back, the conventional markings are engraved in relief, providing a sharp and precise visual contrast that is in harmony with the finishes adorning the movement.

Origins

Chronodate serves as a historical reminder of the brand’s origins, as Angelus became a leading manufacturer of chronographs in the 1930s. These timepieces featured a smaller diameter, in keeping with the taste of the time, and counters that stood out for being particularly large and legible. It is thus only fitting that Angelus is now presenting a Chronodate with large-diameter, easy-to-read counters.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The 30-minute chronograph totaliser and small seconds counter stand out from the dial thanks to their metallic black colour and snailed texture, which contribute to the modernity of the Chronodate design.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The dominant shade – mocha-brown with an amber shimmer – is applied with a fine sunray-brushed effect that is highlighted by the minutes circle. The final additions to the colour palette are the gold-finished applied Arabic numerals and hands filled with luminescent material.

Mechanics

Angelus has fitted these Chronodate Moka models with its own Manufacture chronograph movement, the A-500 calibre, which displays the small seconds at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute totaliser at 3 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A pointer-type date display runs around the periphery of the dial, like on the famous original Chronodate that was unveiled in 1942. Its red, openworked arrowhead indicates the colour chosen to adorn the secondary displays: the markings on the chronograph pushers, the tip of the chronograph’s direct-drive seconds hand and the hand on the 30-minute counter are all finished with red lacquer.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The A-500 calibre stands out for its bold, contemporary decoration that is in keeping with both the traditional codes of its history and its current evolution. The sandblasted main plate and bead-blasted bridges highlight the volumes of the movement and are treated with NAC, a surface treatment that modifies the appearance and properties of the metal, giving it an anthracite-grey hue.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The retaining screws are shaped like three-bladed propellers, an Angelus signature that bears witness to the house’s advanced research into aesthetics. Finally, the edges of the main elements are chamfered and satin-finished, offering a subtle play of light that mirrors the matt finishes.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This movement, oscillating at 4 Hz, is driven by a column wheel and a horizontal clutch to reduce its thickness. The A-500 calibre has a power reserve of 60 hours.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Its self-winding system operates by means of an oscillating weight featuring a red-gold segment on the Chronodate Gold version and a tungsten segment on the Chronodate Titanium model.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Its design is taken from the brand’s archives, with a capital letter ‘A’ above a star, evoking a bell and its clapper. It alludes to the early days of Angelus, right at the heart of the mechanism.
