RETURN OF THE WHITE DIAL
A GOLD-TONE DIAL FOR AN EXQUISITELY REFINED BAUMATIC TIMEPIECE
A SPORT-CHIC SPIRIT INSPIRED BY THE FRENCH RIVIERA

Ever swift to capture the spirit of the times and become the companion for each of life’s occasions, the Riviera collection brings its enchantment to the summertime, celebrating the casual elegance and unparalleled conviviality of this season. The legendary dodecagonal silhouette of the timepiece lends itself to particularly radiant new versions. Pastel dials brighten three new women’s pieces: warm silver (Riviera M0A10810), light blue (M0A10811), and pink (M0A10812). The white dial (Riviera M0A10829) makes its big comeback since the reintroduction of the Riviera in 2021, joining the range of blues, blacks, and greens that have made the collection so successful. A gold-tone dial with a vintage aesthetic brings exquisite refinement to a men’s timepiece equipped with a Baumatic movement (M0A10822).

These five new watches are a lighthearted invitation to celebrate the summer season with the whimsical allure so distinctive of the Brand.

The art of crafting shape watches, magnificently exalted in summer colors

When the ultimate shape watch echoes a season as inspiring and expressive as the summer, the result is a bright aesthetic approach that unleashes lavish creativity. Since it was launched in 1973, the Riviera collection has delighted in endless reinventions while remaining forever loyal to itself. It plays on its own codes, lending the twelve sides of its atypical design to a variety of stylistic inspirations and watchmaking complications.

This chromatic palette will delight every woman, offering options for every taste and every moment of the day. The summer atmosphere radiates on each woman’s delicate wrist, where effortless style meets comfort and reliability.

The Riviera M0A10810 has a warm silver dial that is one of the Brand’s signature tones, already available on a self-winding version and another with a gem-set dial. This hue evokes the radiant sun that brings a fiery, incandescent caress to the transparent wave and mountain patterns and sets ablaze the polished satin-polished steel of the case and bracelet. The Riviera M0A10811, with its azure blue dial, captivates the eye with its clear, fresh hue inspired by the rolling waves of the sea or the sparkling depths of a pool beckoning with refreshment. The Riviera M0A10812 is an irresistible temptation in playful, vibrant pink, setting the tone for the cheerful, sweet, carefree times to come.

The quintessence of sophistication, a special men’s edition with a gold-tone dial offers a spectacularly glamorous vintage charm. This precious piece reverberates with the magic of the French Riviera’s festive summer nights and the opulence of its luxurious villas. It is powered by a self-winding Baumatic Manufacture movement, guaranteeing the precision and reliability that expresses the desire for excellence of the gentleman who wears it. Relaxing, festive moments with friends in the signature Baume & Mercier style

Baume & Mercier accompanies all of life’s occasions, making them unique, unforgettable sources of emotion. It dedicates its watchmaking expertise and designer savoir-faire to these precious moments of friendship and sharing. Ease and conviviality prevail, punctuated with laughter, leisure, and recreation. The French Riviera sets the scene with paradisaical coastlines, wild coves, and the streamlined architecture of its chic villas.  Here, life drifts by in effortless leisure: warmed by the sun, shaded by a parasol, or stretched next to a sparkling blue pool where a pink float invites the swimmer to lounge and linger, or simply to plunge a hand into its placid surface for instant invigoration. The refreshment of an ice cream cone, the juicy red flesh of a watermelon, or a glass of homemade ice cream. A pink lounge chair welcoming relaxation. The amber scent of tanning oil mingling with the sun-drenched landscape in a sunrise palette of blue, pink, and warm silver. Pops of color flash from beach towels, sunglasses, and popsicles. Both elegant and casual, the Riviera is also the perfect companion at sundown for even the most lavish evenings. Its pastel, white, or gold-tone allure and refined finishes bring each one that special aura which makes it so irresistible. More than a watch, it is the natural yet sophisticated expression of a unique style.

•  RIVIERA M0A10810: the warm silver of a sun-drenched summer

The dial of this timepiece could be a dazzling tribute to Helios, the Ancient Greek sun god, known in Egypt as Ra and in Ancient Rome as Sol. The transparent wave-and-mountain transfer decoration against the warm tone of sun-satin silver and the scintillating gold-tone hour markers sweep the imagination away to an enthralling, incandescent French Riviera. The Roman numerals, riveted indexes, and faceted hands are adorned with a flamboyant 5N gold plating highlighted with white Superluminova (blue glow). The date clearly appears in a white aperture at 3 o’clock.

The refinement of this model extends to its perfectly proportioned case so distinctive of Baume & Mercier. Its 33 mm diameter and restrained thickness of 9.22 mm brilliantly reconcile the lightness and daintiness of this exquisitely feminine watch. This balance, emanating from the savoir-faire of master watchmakers, brings out the legendary beauty of the twelve-sided bezel. Protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-glare coating on both sides, it is crafted in satin-polished stainless steel, like its bezel, which is adorned with four screws. The solid case back, in the same dodecagonal shape, may be custom-engraved. The free octagonal crown is adorned with an embossed Phi logo.

This watch is mounted on an integrated three-row bracelet in satin-polished stainless steel. It is not only interchangeable: it may be easily removed and replaced without the need for tools thanks to a very reliable, robust system. It fastens with a triple folding clasp in stainless steel with security push-pieces.

The hours, minutes, and dates are driven by a quartz movement with a 10-year autonomy. The water-tightness of the timepiece is 5 ATM (approximately 50 m).

RIVIERA M0A10811: the azure blue of a Mediterranean summer

Not to be missed this summer, the Riviera collection takes on a new blue timepiece inspired by the aquatic world. This Riviera offers a refreshing plunge into the waves of its transparent transfer decorations, sprinkled with Roman numerals, riveted indexes, and faceted hour and minute hands, all rhodium-plated and coated with white Superluminova (blue glow). An aperture at 3 o’clock reveals the date.

RIVIERA M0A10812: the pink of summer sweetness

Also crafted in polished and sun-satin stainless steel, the bezel is decorated with four screws; the solid dodecagonal back may be engraved. Featuring security push-pieces, the triple folding buckle is also crafted in stainless steel. Water-resistant to 5 ATM (approximately 50m), this timepiece, powered by a quartz movement, offers 10 years of autonomy.

•  RIVIERA M0A10829: the white of a radiant summer

Carrying the very essence of this collection with a subtle balance between its sparkling, pure white dial – perfect for the summer – and the black of the flange that surrounds it, this timepiece takes a very sought-after aesthetic approach for a beautifully contrasted effect. Against the decoration of waves and mountains, the time is displayed on rhodium-plated Roman numerals and indexes coated with white Superluminova (blue glow). The faceted hour and minute hands are also rhodium-plated and coated with white Superluminova (blue glow), offering a harmonious complement to the dial. Echoing the contrast of the black edge, the black seconds hand brings depth to this immaculate aesthetic. The Phi logo, the Brand’s emblem that represents its pursuit of perfection and fine crafting, appears as a counter-balance. An aperture at 3 o’clock reveals the date.

With a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 10.66 mm, the satin-polished stainless steel case frames this watch and its well-structured design. It is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-glare coating on both sides. Fastened by four screws, the bezel is crafted in polished and sun-satin stainless steel. Four screws also appear on the back, where a sapphire crystal reveals the fascinating spectacle of the watch movement. The case back may be engraved. The octagonal steel crown is free and adorned with the embossed Phi logo and a black line.

The self-winding movement offers a 38-hour power reserve and oscillates at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vph). It is water-resistant to 10 ATM (approximately 100 m).

•  RIVIERA M0A10822 - Special Baumatic Edition: the gold tone of a sunny summer

Its well-structured silhouette beautifully combines gold tone and steel; retro charm and contemporary appeal; and various delicately contrasted finishes, including vertical satin, satin polish, snailing, and rhodium plating. The summer dresses up in luxury and glamor for a style lesson in timeless, sophisticated elegance.

The dial asserts vertical satin effects that bring it a depth and texture that flatter its beauty. Its gold tone draws its warmth and softness from its vintage inspiration. The meticulous choice of colors masterfully balances the surge of invigorating energy with the restraint of sobriety. A snailed minute track sets the pace for the dial surround, dotted with riveted tone-on-tone golden indexes. The hours and minutes are displayed on rhodium-plated, openworked hands, while the seconds are indicated by a blued steel hand adorned with the Phi logo as a counter-balance. The date appears in a wide gold-tone aperture.

In satin-polished stainless steel, the case – with a diameter of 39 mm and a thickness of 10.2 mm – is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-glare coating on both sides. The polished and sun-satin finishes of the bezel, secured by four screws, highlight the luminous aspect of its stainless steel crafting. A delicate “Special Edition” engraving adorns the dodecagonal back, which is topped with a sapphire crystal and fastened with four screws. Up until now, the Riviera Baumatic models have always been adorned with a transparent sapphire dial. This is the first Special Edition Riviera Baumatic to feature an opaque dial in order to flatter its golden color. The free octagonal crown is embossed with a Phi logo. It is decorated with a blue line, reflecting the blued steel of the seconds hand.

The integrated three-row bracelet in satin-polished stainless steel is a harmonious extension of the case. It features a very reliable, robust system that enables it to be changed without the need for tools. The triple folding buckle is crafted in stainless steel and features security push-pieces. A self-winding Baumatic Manufacture movement (BM13-1975A) drives this exquisitely crafted watch, showcasing its elaborate watchmaking expertise. Its resistance to everyday magnetic fields reaches 1,500 Gauss; it oscillates at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vph); its power reserve lasts 5 days for 120 hours of autonomy; and it offers water-resistance to 10 ATM (approximately 100m).

Its magnificent finishes demonstrate the same refined details: the bridges are circular-grained; the baseplate is sand-blasted and snailed; and the oscillating weight is gold-tone and openworked with Côtes de Genève and snailed decorations. It also bears a unique Baume & Mercier engraving.

Furthermore, like all Baumatic models, it benefits from a warranty extension of 6 years in addition to the standard 2 years of the international warranty. Simply register the piece on the Baume & Mercier website within 60 days after purchase on www.baume-et-mercier.com and activate the extension.

The new Riviera watches by Baume & Mercier are a clear invitation to fully embrace the summer and to bring each second the radiant dimension imbued by a pastel, white, or gold-tone dial.

VOUTILAINEN – 28LQU Kohan - Unique Piece

VOUTILAINEN  Current [Vingt-8] 28LQU "Kohan"Japanese lacquer Dial Kitamura Studio - Unique Piece - 2025

A unique Voutilainen timepiece

Created and developed especially with a Finnish private client to celebrate the love he holds for his wife for her birthday, the Voutilainen 28 Kohan Unique Piece embodies the symbiosis of Tatsuo Kitamura's extraordinary lacquer Japanese artistry, the traditional hand-engraving techniques and enamel with the Voutilainen workshop's philosophy of longevity, precision and classical watchmaking tradition.

This one-of-a-kind timepiece is a complete work of horological art, inspired by the autumn foliage of Lake Saimaa, with numerous details reflecting Finnish national symbols.

Voutilainen 28 Kohan Unique Piece

The one-of-a-kind timepiece highlights a mesmerizing case, a distinctive dial made using Urushi lacquering technique along with a movement whose bridges and ratchet wheel are crafted with the same meticulous art, requiring over a thousand hours of work. The raw materials used in this artwork include "Urushi" (tree sap), "Kinpun" (various gold powder), "Kirigane" (cut gold sheets) and "Kirigai" (cut shells from the great green turban and New Zealand abalone).

According to the collector's wishes, the dial depicts scenes of archipelago of the Lake Saimaa, with a glimmering water surface and colours of Finnish autumn foliage. Hundreds of shell pieces hand cut from different shells such as green-turban and abalone are meticulously sorted by colour, gleam and shape. They are then combined with hand-cut materials in fine gold, platinum and coloured lacquer and finely inlaid in dense compositions across multiple Urushi layers, applied repeatedly like a mille-feuille. Each piece is carefully hand-polished at every stage to create a textured surface reminiscent of a pebble-grained.

The outermost layer's subtle asperities produce delicate plays of light and shadow, bringing the themed decoration to life-revealing its magic from different viewing angles. The dial also reveals a captivating sky that transforms with the light: under bright illumination, it becomes a vivid blue sky with white clouds appearing, while in the shade, it shifts into a deep night sky where only the water surface gently reflects a faint glow, reminiscent of moonlight. It is made with a unique technique that has been kept secret.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The white gold case is a true work of art featuring a cover decorated on both faces using artistic techniques. The outside is beautifully hand-engraved and enamelled, showcasing a Seven-spot Ladybird (the national insect of Finland) quietly resting on the leaf of the Silver Birch (the national tree of Finland). The inner side presents Lily of the Valley flowers (the national flower of Finland) and two Holly Blue butterflies (the national butterfly of Finland), shown in flight with open wings as they seek nectar from the blossoms. The flowers are made of hand-sliced mother-of-pearl, with each petal individually shaped. The colours of the petals, butterflies' wings, and background ornaments shift subtly depending on the viewing angle and light.

Subtle details enrich the case, including the birthday of the collector's beloved wife, a finely engraved map of Finland and a bear paw-the national animal-symbolising strength and power. In addition, the crown is set with a granite stone, Finland's national stone, whose red and black shades echo and enhance the watch's artistry.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The beauty of the movement can be admired at the back of the case, featuring a main plate and bridges crafted from German-silver and titanium, enhanced by hand-applied Urushi lacquer decoration using the Saiei Maki-e technique. In alignment with the collector's vision and Mr. Kitamura's guidance, the ratchet showcases a depiction of three leaves of the Silver Birch (the national tree of Finland) which turns into yellow with golden shades in autumn. Cut gold sheets, cut shells, Urushi deep-blue lacquer, and gold-powder particles are put together to create such a work of art. Additionally, a power reserve has been added on the movement with a white gold indicator shaped like a Vichy water bottle.

The Voutilainen 28 Kohan is equipped with an in-house caliber that incorporates a very large balance wheel crafted internally, allowing a perfect regulation of the watch within strict tolerances. To equip such a timepiece, a rare and unique balance-spring system has been used. The exterior of the spring has a typical Phillips overcoil, while the internal curve uses the little-known Grossmann curve further increasing accuracy.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Furthermore, the movement is particularly remarkable due to its two escapement wheels, which provide a direct impulse to the balance through the jewels. This innovative construction improves efficiency by requiring less energy than the Swiss lever escapement and allows for notable benefits, for everyday use, such as longevity, stability and a longer power reserve. The mechanism is meticulously finished to the highest standards by the expert artisans of the Voutilainen workshop. The surfaces of pinions and wheels are completely flat and polished with exceptionally uniform tolerances. The main plate and bridges are decorated by hand to achieve the utmost levels of surface finish. Screws and all steel parts are also finished and polished by hand.

Completing the overall design, the timepiece features a stylish and elegant 37 mm white gold case paired with a hand-sewn green crocodile strap.

The Kitamura Studio and Urushi Lacquer Tradition

The Kitamura Studio, one of the world's foremost Urushi lacquer studios, is located in Wajima, Japan. Under the guidance of Mr. Tatsuo Kitamura, it produces Urushi lacquer art that represents the pinnacle of Japanese tradition, carrying a craft that has endured for centuries into the modern era. Each piece embodies a profound respect for preserving the soul, spirit, and cultural identity of traditional Japan, as it was expressed during the Edo period (1615-1868). Among the various Urushi lacquering techniques, such as "Maki-e" and "Raden" in true classical tradition, Kitamura particularly excels in his own original one, "Saiei Maki", which imparts a contemporary feel.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This outstanding know-how uses various kinds and colours of special shells and fine gold inlay to recreate "Somada" technique - an extremely detailed, burnished maki-e art established in the 17th century but lost by the 19th century. Besides making his artworks, in recent years, the studio has also devoted energy to restoring traditional items once used by Edo-period feudal lords. Crafted hundreds of years ago, they retain their pristine beauty today, thanks to their durability and the ability to be restored, even when handled directly. This superlative artistry engages the viewer on a physical level, inspiring awe for the dedication, patience, and mastery essential to their creation.

About Urushi lacquer's techniques

MAKI-E is a lacquer work and a decoration technique in which designs or patterns are drawn in Urushi lacquer, over which gold-powder is sprinkled (scattered) while the lacquer is wet, securing the design on the surface.

RADEN is a mother-of-pearl inlay work and a decoration technique in which designs or patterns are drawn in Urushi lacquer, gold-powder, cut gold sheets, turban and abalone shell.

Ulysse Nardin – BLAST [Free Wheel Maillechort] Tourbillon Free Wheel Edition

Ulysse Nardin BLAST [Free Wheel Maillechort] Tourbillon Skeleton Dial 45mm White Gold Edition2025

WHERE MYSTERY MEETS MASTERY

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The independent Swiss watchmaking Maison Ulysse Nardin unveils the Blast Free Wheel Maillechort, an exclusive timepiece limited to just 50 pieces. This unconventional horological creation pushes the boundaries of traditional watchmaking, offering a bold fusion of mysterious design and groundbreaking mechanism.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

At the heart of this horological masterpiece lies a series of unprecedented flying mechanisms. From the floating double-barrel system to the award-winning Ulysse Anchor Constant Escapement, the Blast Free Wheel Maillechort challenges the conventional and elevates precision engineering to new heights. Beneath the ultra-glass box, a dial crafted from Maillechort adds depth, evolving over time into a unique expression of character and craftsmanship.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

At the heart of this edgy Haute Horlogerie complication, the unique and innovative UN-176 calibre seems to defy not only the laws of physics, but also the very principles of watchmaking construction. Perfecting this flying movement, entirely designed by the integrated Manufacture, required two years of research and development to Ulysse Nardin’s technical department.

The Blast Free Wheel Maillechort presents Ulysse Nardin’s award-winning flying tourbillon with the Ulysse Anchor Constant Escapement. Composed of 45 components, the tourbillon is located at 6 o’clock and boasts a revolutionary constant escapement. Challenging the principle of the traditional anchor escapement, the Ulysse Anchor Constant Escapement features a circular frame with a pallet fork fixed in the center, supported in space on two blade springs less than a quarter of the thickness of a hair in diameter. Mounted perpendicular to each other, these are subjected to a bending force that curves them and maintains them.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This major technical achievement directed by Ulysse Nardin guarantees a perfectly even impulse on the balance wheel, irrespective of the watch’s power reserve. Thanks to silicon technology also incorporated in the hairspring and the escapement, the jewels of the usual escapement-wheel become superfluous, as does the anchor pivot. This exceptional tourbillon, which reflects Ulysse Nardin’s triumphs in terms of innovation, proudly won the Tourbillon Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2015.

At 12 o’clock, a floating double-barrel system is positioned, flying without any visible attachment on the surface. One barrel is fully exposed, while the other operates unseen. Precision ball bearings hold everything in perfect alignment. The energy it accumulates provides the timepiece with an exceptional autonomy of seven days, outlined by a highly original power reserve display at 4 o’clock. The indicator remains static, unlike the display disc: three bands opposing the indicator mean that the watch is fully wound, while a single band indicates that the power reserve is almost empty.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In addition, several additional flying mechanisms are displayed on either side of the barrel: on its left, an intermediate wheel, a power reserve differential, and a reduction gear; on its right, the winding mechanism that connects it to the crown’s winding stem, allowing the selection of the winding system train or the time setting.

The Blast Free Wheel Maillechort is a spectacular show. Its bold 45mm case, crafted in white gold, features negative angle facets designed using a complex laser method. Renowned for its disruptive aesthetic and ergonomic properties, this satin-finished and polished Blast case once again proves the cutting-edge know-how of the independent Manufacture.

The geometric lines feature a unique ultra-glass box in sapphire crystal that offers a wide-open view of the mysterious movement, which is also visible through the sides. The distinctive characteristic of this glass box lies in its construction: it was carved from a single block of sapphire crystal, meticulously hollowed out to form the box and achieve this unparalleled shape.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Beneath the dome glass and the flying mechanism lies a dial crafted from Maillechort, a traditional alloy of copper, zinc, and nickel. Known for its warm, silvery tones and distinctive grained texture, it is prized for its durability and unique aesthetic. More difficult to manufacture than brass due to its hardness and complex composition, it requires craftsmanship and precision. Historically used in musical instruments for its resonant acoustic properties, Maillechort is a “living metal” that develops a one-of-a-kind patina over time, adding character and depth. This material was invented in the early 19th century by French engineers Maillet and Chorier, whose combined names became «Maillechort».

Underscoring the meticulous attention to detail in its design, the case back of the Blast Free Wheel Maillechort is open, featuring a sapphire glass and a Maillechort plate. This exclusive limited edition of 50 pieces features a blue velvet effect and waterproof rubber strap, with a white gold folding buckle.
