CHRONOGRAPH, COMPLICATION &VISION

Through a transparent exterior, the BR-X1 CHRONOGRAPH TOURBILLON SAPPHIRE reveals its fascinating secrets: it is built around a Flying Tourbillon master grand complication and Bell & Ross has added an ultra elegant mono-pusher chronograph. This unique and exclusive Haute Horlogerie caliber is prepared to be roused by the exquisite poetry of its movement.

The chronograph complication is visible and provides a privileged window into its many intricacies. Even the casual observer can admire the column wheel under the dial at 12 o’clock, the semi instantaneous jumping hand (rather than a traditional sweeping hand), and the power reserve indicator of 100 hours (at least 4 days) at 9 o’clock.

Masculine through and through, the main plate and pillars have been machined from a single block of metal. The perfectly executed skeletonizing of the movement, in a stunningly contemporary style and finish, allows the exceptional mechanics of this “horological turbine” to be observed when starting, stopping and resetting.

True afficionados will appreciate the extreme sophistication of the BR-X1 CHRONOGRAPH TOURBILLON SAPPHIRE with its 30-minute counter at 10 o’clock and 60-second counter at 2 o’clock for the chronograph functions. These are engaged by the mono-pusher rocker – positioned at 2 o’clock – which controls the Start, Stop and Reset functions.

A treat for the eyes, this outstanding timepiece offers breathtaking views into its inner workings. The power reserve differential and the barrel are also visible on the back. In a similar theatrical fashion, the flying tourbillon cage with the logogram “&” can been seen from every angle.

A TREASURE CHEST OF PURE SAPPHIRE

To those of us in awe of Nature’s riches, sapphire is an iconic precious gemstone. To the world of Science, it’s a mineral known as Corundum, the second hardest material on earth after diamond, and almost impossible to scratch. Herein, lies the beauty of this once-in-a-lifetime creation by the master horologers at Bell & Ross.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

The extreme transparency of sapphire allows the eye an unequaled opportunity to virtually travel inside the movement and see the ingenious interactions in all their glory. Cutting a watchcase from a solid block of sapphire is an extremely difficult process. It takes long hours of machining, then polishing, to produce one.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

The BR-X1 CHRONOGRAPH TOURBILLON SAPPHIRE case is cut from 9 blocks of sapphire: middle piece, back, top, crystal and the four bumpers and is assembled with screws. The complexity of the case construction is a challenge to technical mastery and makes it an exceptional and striking timepiece.

JAERMANN & STÜBI – 2016

JAERMANN & STÜBI – Ian Woosnam & Royal Open Brazil Edition 2016

IAN WOOSNAM, NEW JAERMANN & STÜBI AMBASSADOR
IS A MODERN-DAY GOLF LEGEND

Well-known and renowned for developing collectors’ watches designed with the unique support of golf legends, Jaermann & Stübi presents its new creation dedicated to Ian Woosnam. Ian Woosnam (or «Woosie» as he is known to the world’s 28 million golfers) won the 1991 Masters Tournament, one of the four major golf championships; he donated the irons that sealed his triumph in Augusta and their steel heads were used to create the case of every watch in the collection which now bears his name; produced as a limited edition, the collection will be sold in aid of the charity founded and sponsored by the extraordinary champion, Jaermann & Stübi’s new honorary ambassador.

Since his first professional victory at the Swiss Open in 1982, Ian Woosnam has had a brilliant career. During this time, he has won 48 tournaments across the world, including the 1991 Masters Tournament, the first major championship of the season which is played every year in early April in Augusta (Georgia) in the United States.

In 1987, he became the first professional golfer to win one million dollars in one year due to his achievements. These successes resulted in him occupying the top of the European Tour Order of Merit two years running, and the world number 1 position for 50 consecutive weeks.

With Team Europe, Ian Woosnam participated in eight Ryder Cups against Team USA, beating them on four occasions, as well as a fifth time in 2006 as captain at the K Club in Ireland. Ian Woosnam then received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II for services to world golf.

In 2008, Ian Woosnam joined the senior tour and soon took the European Order of Merit that same year. Since then, he has continued to shine both in Europe and in the American Champions Tour.

He won the 2014 Dutch Senior Open with a five under par and triumphed at the 2015 Insperity Invitational in a play-off against famous golfers Tom Lehman and Kenny Perry, his former Ryder Cup opponents.

«Woosie» will never stop being a competitor because he believes in victory, and is completely worthy of being one of the greatest golf ambassadors in Great Britain, Member of the Order of the British Empire and Honorary Member of the European Tour.

«Giving my clubs to the skilful Swiss watchmakers of Jaermann & Stübi was an amazing experience, having been invited to help design ‘my’ watches,» he says. «Thanks to their knowledge of golf and their watchmaking expertise, they produced a limited edition of magnificent timepieces, the cases of which were created from the head of each of the clubs I used to win the incredible 1991 Masters Tournament, in keeping with other legendary winners of the same championship, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, and Ben Crenshaw, who have also helped to design their personalised watches with Jaermann & Stübi

IAN WOOSNAM SERIE 1

Legendary Welsh golfer Ian Woosnam and watchmakers Jaermann & Stübi worked together to conceive an exclusive timepiece inspired by the «Hole in One» watch collection. The steel case of this unique model is forged from the golf club heads carried by Ian Woosnam when he won the first major of the golfing season always played in April at the Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia.

Ian Woosnam teamed up with Jaermann & Stübi in order to materialize a very special role model and develop a series of personal and distinctive timepieces. Each watch case of this limited 72-piece collection can be traced to one of his Masters winning irons, making these particular timepieces even more unique and rare.

The clock is equipped with the golf counter complication developed and patented by Jaermann & Stübi and a state-of-the-art automatic movement. It offers a one-of-a-kind, exclusive function: It counts the strokes per hole, adds the total strokes per game and compares scores with the golfer's handicap.

The watch also comes with a shock absorber and, like the golf counter, is fully mechanical. The young Swiss watch brand is characterized by its sporty elegant design, its flawless functioning and the exacting technical expertise combined with tradition and exclusiveness.

ROYAL OPEN COURSE TIMER & GMT BRAZIL EDITION

Jaermann & Stübi, the Timepiece of Golf, is paying tribute to Brazil, host of the 2016 Olympic Games, a global event made all the more significant by golf’s return as an Olympic sport in August.

Jaermann & Stübi’s flagship «Royal Open» collection is therefore presenting a new series of models to celebrate the Olympic return (after 112 years of absence) of golf – the world’s most practised individual sport.

This timepiece does not feature any specific counters, but benefits from a shock absorber, which enables golfers to play with the watch on their wrist without any risk of damaging it.

The tenth Laureus Charity Night will be held on 19 November 2016 in Dübendorf, near Zurich. Around 600 VIP guests are expected to attend the anniversary of the fundraising event, where the tenth birthday of the Laureus Foundation Switzerland will also be celebrated. All guests will have the opportunity to bid on an exclusive, unique piece from IWC Schaffhausen. The timepiece up for auction is the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Unique Piece “Laureus Charity Night Zürich 2016 (Ref. IW397205) – the only watch with a 45-millimetre platinum case, a blue dial and a special engraving on the case back.

This imposing chronograph not only allows intermediate times to be measured with down-to-the-second accuracy, but also features a perpetual calendar that independently recognizes the different lengths of the months, as well as the leap day occurring every four years. The complex mechanism can be set easily using the crown and will not require any adjustments until 2100.

The date and month are displayed with large numerals in the style of a digital watch. Oscillating at a frequency of 4 hertz, the IWC-manufactured 89801 calibre guarantees high precision. And thanks to its double-pawl winding mechanism, the watch is driven solely by being worn on the wrist: a rotor in 18-carat red gold converts the wearer’s kinetic energy into tension in the spring and generates a power reserve of 68 hours. The watch is fitted with a black alligator leather strap by Santoni.

10,000 SWISS YOUNGSTERS
PARTICIPATE IN LAUREUS PROJECTS

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation was founded in South Africa 16 years ago. In 2007, IWC Schaffhausen and Mercedes-Benz Switzerland joined forces to establish the Laureus Foundation Switzerland. Laureus focuses on the power of sport to integrate disadvantaged children and adolescents into society more effectively. 10,000 or so young Swiss girls and boys participate in the sports projects on offer, such as Laureus Girls in Sport and Laureus Street Soccer. The foundation raises most of the funding required for these projects with its annual Laureus Charity Night. Last year, donations amounting to CHF 1.1 million were collected.

MeisterSinger – Peter Henlein Gold Limited Edition

MeisterSinger“Peter Henlein” Gold Chronometer Limited Edition

Edition honors one of the
originators of German watchmaking

MeisterSinger manufactures unusual mechanical watches that display the time with one single hour hand, precisely to the nearest five minutes – quite sufficient for people who arrange their time themselves and don’t worry about seconds.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

The “Peter Henlein” edition is both technically and optically a big exception in the MeisterSinger collection. Instead of the upright hour digits, the “Peter Henlein” edition has them placed radially. In the center of the dial there is a second circle indicating the hours in Roman numerals.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

The design of the needle-shaped hour hand is also quite different from the usual MeisterSinger style: The dial of the “Peter Henlein” is based on historical timepieces, which Manfred Brassler, the founder of MeisterSinger, took as an inspiration when designing his single-hand watches.

Mechanical miracles from the city of the mastersingers

In Germany, one name in particular is synonymous with early watchmaking: Peter Henlein (around 1479 to 1542), a master locksmith from Nuremberg who was, for a long time, somewhat too generously accredited with having invented the first “wearable” clock. Although we now know that he was not the first to design this type of timepiece and that the famous “Nuremberg egg” pocket watches were only made after his death, he was certainly responsible for the popularity of the “pocket watch”.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

Unfortunately it is not known whether he, as a Nuremberg master craftsman, sang in one of the city’s singers’ fraternities from which MeisterSinger draws its name. The name Peter Henlein is also synonymous with the age of the Renaissance, in which the proud bourgeoisie, both artistically and technically talented, began to shape the world in a decisive way.

Chronometer with a Renaissance face

In Henlein’s day, clocks were designed with one single hand – firstly because they were unable to indicate smaller units of time with any degree of precision, and secondly because the world simply did not need to run by minutes or even seconds. However, there is a good reason why the “Peter Henlein” edition in particular is also fitted with a second hand: It is the prerequisite for participating in the strict precision tests in the laboratories of the Swiss COSC, according to which the watch may be officially named the first MeisterSinger chronometer.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

That is a wonderful accolade for the specially designed movement that powers the Peter Henlein edition – the hand-wound caliber MSH01, which MeisterSinger had developed in Switzerland. Crafted to meet the specifications of MeisterSinger watches and fitted with a uniquely shaped bridge designed by Manfred Brassler, to date it has only been used in MeisterSinger’s premium line – the Circularis. A top-of-the-line movement, precise and reliable, the MSH01 also continues in the tradition of Peter Henlein and his “portable watches”.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

In the Peter Henlein edition, the movement and the bright dial are enclosed in an 18-karat gold case, 43 millimeters in diameter and waterproof up to 5 bar. The hand-wound movement with its gold-plated bridge and a generous 120-hour power reserve is clearly visible through the sapphire glass exhibition back.

The Peter Henlein is available from September as a limited edition of 15 watches and costs 14,000 euros.

A. Lange & Söhne – DATOGRAPH Perpetual Tourbillon Edition

A. Lange & SöhneSAXONIA DATOGRAPH Perpetual Tourbillon Limited Edition

Worth a closer look

Dispatch of the DATOGRAPH PERPETUAL TOURBILLON has begun

The first of the new DATOGRAPH PERPETUAL TOURBILLON watches – of which there are just 100 – have now been dispatched. The watch does exactly what its name suggests, combining a perpetual calendar with a flyback chronograph and a tourbillon in an absolutely unique way.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....              BIG FOTO

Since 2006 the name DATOGRAPH PERPETUAL has stood for the ingenious combination of flyback chronograph and perpetual calendar. Ten years on, this fascinating timepiece is now available with an added tourbillon – although at first glance, the only clue is in the name on the dial. That is because the tourbillon can only be seen by looking through the sapphire-crystal caseback.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....              BIG FOTO

For the watchmakers, integrating this popular mechanism into this exclusive timepiece was a much more challenging task than might be expected. That is because the 729-part calibre L952.2 movement was not simply constructed module by module. Instead, A. Lange & Söhne decided on a more elegant but more complicated solution: within the movement, which was rebuilt from scratch, the three complications that give the watch its name were all connected to form an integrated whole.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....              BIG FOTO

The chronograph is equipped with a column-wheel mechanism, a precise jumping minute counter and a flyback function. The jumping perpetual calendar is paired with a moon-phase display and a Lange outsize date.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....              BIG FOTO

And a glance through the sapphire-crystal caseback into the movement – hand-decorated in accordance with the highest Lange standards – makes it clear how the chronograph mechanism was arranged around the tourbillon. Thanks to the patented stop-seconds mechanism, the balance wheel is momentarily brought to a standstill when the crown is pulled, so that the watch can be set with one-second accuracy.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....              BIG FOTO

The sophisticated nature of the watch's construction is also reflected in its design: the clearly structured black dial of this model – which is limited to just 100 watches – is easy to read despite the density of information it displays.
