7 November 2014 - Vacheron Constantin, the world’s oldest Haute Horlogerie manufacture with almost 260 years of uninterrupted history, celebrated the grand opening of its latest boutique in ION Orchard, Singapore. The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Julien Tornare, Managing Director of Vacheron Constantin Asia Pacific, in the presence of His Excellency Thomas Kupfer, Ambassador of Switzerland to Singapore and Mr Chris Chong, CEO of Orchard Turn Developments.

On the occasion of the grand opening, Vacheron Constantin presented The Sound of Time, a special exhibition dedicated to striking timepieces throughout the Maison’s history.

The Sound of Time Exhibition
Upon arrival, guests were able to discover an 1812 red gold quarter-repeater pocket watch with an enamel dial testifying to this longstanding tradition, and the new Patrimony Ultra-Thin Calibre 1731, the thinnest manual-winding minute repeater timepiece, along with seventeen other antique striking timepieces from Vacheron Constantin Museum.

An interactive digital art installation within the exhibition – The Minute Repeater, An ECAL and Vacheron Constantin Project, showcased the result of an excellent partnership between Vacheron Constantin and the students from ECAL – Ecole Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne, and their interpretation on the components of the minute repeater timepiece.

Following the exhibition tour, guests were invited to discover the new boutique, where they witnessed the world premiere of some exceptional creations, including the Métier d’Art Hommage a l’Art de la Danse 2014 and the new Traditionnelle timepiece in Platinum. Guests also had the chance to see Vacheron Constantin’s in-house watchmaker at work.

The Minute Repeater, An ECAL and Vacheron Constantin Project
Also, for the first time in Asia, Vacheron Constantin presented a selection of vintage timepieces at its new Singapore boutique in ION Orchard, known as Vacheron Constantin Les Collectionneurs. Les Collectionneurs will be available for purchase, giving collectors another avenue to acquire vintage Vacheron Constantin timepieces. Each Les Collectionneurs timepiece will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Geneva-based Manufacturer.

The exclusive collection may be viewed within the Flagship’s Heritage Room, a VIP area which incorporates contemporary elements into the traditional design through an architectural perspective that reveals the brand’s constant search for excellence and aesthetic perfection.
Guests were then escorted to experience a gastronomic voyage in the art gallery at Ion Orchard. The gallery was dramatically illuminated and animated to celebrate the grand opening of the new Singapore boutique.

During the welcome speech, Mr Julien Tornare, Managing Director of Vacheron Constantin Asia Pacific, highlighted the Maison’s long-standing heritage to embrace the art of watchmaking excellence with a strong dedication to exceptional quality and commitment to artistic creativity. The evening concluded with the highlight of a special performance by renowned glass harpist Mr Robert Tiso, who was specially flown in from Milan for the event.

The Traditionnelle watch is heir to a longstanding watchmaking tradition and pays tribute to longstanding expertise acquired over a period of almost 260 years by the Manufacture Vacheron Constantin. A case middle with clear- cut lines, a slender bezel, a knurled motif surrounding the screw-down case-back fitted with a sapphire crystal, dauphine hands: the Traditionnelle watch forcefully displays its classic and timeless character.
The original chapter ring entirely set with baguette-cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.3 carats becomes a style feature that puts the watch firmly on-trend.

This timepiece meets the demanding requirements of the Hallmark of Geneva – the highest benchmark in the field of Haute Horlogerie testifying to the quality, craftsmanship and reliability of an exceptional timepiece produced within the territory of the Canton of Geneva.
At the heart of its case ticks the ultra-thin self-winding 1120 movement. Developed and produced in- house by Vacheron Constantin, it beats at a frequency of 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations/hour) and has an approximately 40-hour power reserve. Its finishing and construction are a testament to its finely crafted nature. Not only are the main flat surfaces of the movement adorned with a meticulous “Côtes de Genève” motif, but all their sharp angles are bevelled and hand-polished – as too are the screw heads.

To accommodate this demonstration of mechanical virtuosity in the style it deserves, Vacheron Constantin created the 950 platinum case of its new Traditionnelle model based on two criteria that are rarely associated. While the elegantly slender profile is akin to a classical design, the 41 mm diameter lends it a resolutely contemporary dimension. Finally, the exhibition case-back is fitted with a sapphire crystal providing a chance to admire the movement as well as its openworked Maltese cross-shaped oscillating weight.

Setting the perfect finishing touch to this model, Vacheron Constantin has equipped its new Traditionnelle with dark blue Mississippiensis alligator leather secured by a 950 platinum pin buckle.
