Eberhard & Co. - Tazio Nuvolari Naked Chronograph

Eberhard & Co. - Tazio Nuvolari "Naked" Chronograph New

TAZIO NUVOLARI VANDERBILT CUP: THE NEW "NAKED” MODEL
DETERMINATION AND THE SPIRIT OF A WINNER

1936 Tazio Nuvolari drives his 12-cylinder Alfa Romeo 300 miles to an extraordinary triumph on the Roosevelt Raceway in New York State. Tazio and his Vanderbilt Cup make racing history.

2013 – The exclusive new addition to the Tazio NuvolariVanderbilt Cup cult collection by Eberhard & Co., dedicated to one of the legendary driver’s most prestigious victories, will add a touch of elegance and even greater temperament to one of the house’s most beloved timepieces for sportsmen thanks to the dial with total black look.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

A mechanical, self-winding, waterproof chronograph with sapphire crystals, it is the first of the Tazio Nuvolari–Vanderbilt Cup series to have a black dial with white arabic numerals and it offers important technical details inspired by the past but interpreted for our time. Like the other chronographs of the collection, the timer button is coaxial with the crown, reminiscent of the Eberhard & Co. coaxial chronographs of the 1930s. The watchcase is lighter than in previous versions because there is no back plate, thus the definition NAKED. More familiar to motor buffs, this term refers to cars without body panels so the details of the motor are visible. In the same way, the naked version of the Vanderbilt Cup movement can be admired through the back sapphire crystal. Nuvolari’s autograph is also screenprinted on the back.

The 42 mm diameter of the circular watch case is generous, it is waterproof to 30 metres and it has all the characteristic qualities and exclusive features of the Tazio Nuvolari – Vanderbilt Cup collection by Eberhard & Co. The watch dial is particularly striking, with a design that recalls dashboard instruments of vintage sports cars. The dial is also marked with the legendary driver’s initials, TN.
With a superbly refined self-winding movement (30 rubies, blue screws, perlage and Côte de Genève finishing) guaranteeing at least 42 hours of autonomy, the new Eberhard & Co. chronograph has the classic trio of counters for hours, minutes and a second hand sweep; arabic numerals and hands are white.
The black leather wristband has contrasting white top-stitching and a bespoke E&Co. buckle.

Baume & Mercier - Clifton GMT

Baume & Mercier - Clifton GMT NEW

Since Baume & Mercier was founded in the heart of the Swiss Jura in 1830, it has continued to expand into new markets around the globe, and travel has become an essential part of its history. That is why it was a natural choice to add a Dual Time watch to the Clifton collection: a watch that functions in such a way as to enable the simultaneous display of two different time zones on its dial. This efficient, understated piece fulfills the needs of metropolitans who travel for professional or personal reasons and who wish to check the time at home, as well as the time where they are, at a glance.

The art of travel makes up part of the historic heritage of Baume & Mercier, as the Swiss watchmaker understood the importance of taking its influence beyond the boundaries of Europe as early as the 19th century.

Aware of the potential that the new territories represented, the company, formerly known as Frères Baume, established a branch in London as early as 1851 under the name Baume Brothers. The company’s activity, which had its beginnings with a focus on the Swiss Geneva area and the British Empire, would reach North America when a subsidiary was opened in Philadelphia in 1876. A vast network then formed, encompassing India, Africa and even Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Burma.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

By the end of the 19th century, the brand had acquired a solid international reputation, and received a number of awards and gold medals for its polished timepieces at exhibits and international fairs in Paris, Melbourne, Zurich, Amsterdam, London, Chicago, and elsewhere.  With their precision and fine crafting, Baume watches beat records and won competitions in the field of chronometry, including those organized by the Kew Observatory near London. London played an essential role in establishing the global time standard: the Royal Observatory is found there, and the original meridian that was used to determine mean solar time, known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)*, runs through it.

Baume & Mercier pays homage to this great past with two GMT watches that complete the Clifton men’s collection. These elegant, timeless watches are a demonstration of Baume & Mercier’s ambition to provide travelers with useful functionalities. These luxury timepieces both feature a 43 mm diameter case in brushed satin-finish steel with the date display in the three o’clock position, available with a silvery dial or anthracite dial with sun satin finish.

These models contain an automatic mechanical movement known for its reliability and precision:  ETA 2893-2. With the Dual Time function, it enables the watch to simultaneously display a second time zone, indicated by the red dot at the end of a fine hand that goes around the dial once every 24 hours. This marvel of balance is understated, simple to handle, and useful for everyday use. It is mounted on a black or maroon bracelet fastened by an adjustable triple folding buckle with security catch.

* Since January 1, 1972, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) has been replaced by Coordinated Universal Time  (UTC), the time standard defined by the combination of a multitude of atomic clocks located all over the world.

Baume & Mercier - Clifton GMT (Ref: 10111)
The elegant new Clifton GMT model 10111 is a traveler. It was designed for men who regularly roam the planet and who wish to check the time at home, as well as the time where they are. This watch comes in a 43 mm diameter case in brushed satin-finish steel with a shape inspired by that a 1950s Baume & Mercier watch. It contains an automatic mechanical movement visible through the sapphire case back (ETA 2893-2). The slate dial with a sun satin finish is illuminated by a set of golden hands, and shows the date in an open display in the three o’clock position. In addition to the local time, a second time zone is indicated by a fine hand that goes around the dial once every 24 hours. This metropolitan, timeless piece is mounted on a maroon alligator skin bracelet fastened by an adjustable triple folding buckle with security catch.

Eterna - Royal KonTiki Two Time Zone

ETERNA - Royal KonTiki Two Time Zone GMT NEW

Long celebrated, KonTiki is back. Countless changes and improvements later, that historic timepiece has morphed into today’s sturdy, sporty KonTiki. What’s more, it comes with a brand-new heart.

The Eterna brand
Eterna has since 1856 manufactured high-quality mechanical timepieces born of traditional craftsmanship. Over its more than 150 years of existence, numerous major developments have emerged from the company’s workshops. Revolutionary innovations such as the Eterna-Matic ball-bearing-mounted rotor and the first alarm-equipped wristwatch originated at Eterna.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Other milestones include the recently developed Eterna Spherodrive spring-barrel construction mounted on ball-bearings, setting a new reference with respect to the quality and longevity of mechanical movements. Eterna is in fact one of the few manufacturers to value new ideas and select sophisticated materials for its essentially manual craft production. It is by so doing that time and again Eterna has succeeded in devising unexpected solutions to watchmaking challenges that had defied the centuries.

ETERNA - Calibre 39

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Quite some heart too!
It is the first of the 88 possible variants of Eterna’s new Calibre 39. This little mechanical gem really sums up the company’s centuries-old history. It owes its existence to the the combined efforts of the company’s teams of watchmakers and technicians’ drive to design and develop a proprietary calibre family whose streamlined construction would be optimised.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The new calibre family’s initial version, calibre 3945A, was chosen for the new, handsomely designed model, the Royal KonTiki Two Time Zones. In line with the proud traditions of the KonTiki family, the newcomer’s rugged yet stylish design reflects its sporting spirit.

Calibre 39 – smart and multipurpose
In 2007, when the Calibre 39 project was launched, Eterna was seeking to design a proprietary self- winding chronograph movement featuring three sub-dials whose rationally designed production process would compress costs accordingly. Years later the results would exceed expectations by a wide margin: Eterna’s workshop efforts yielded an entire calibre family – no less than 88 distinct variants built around a single basic calibre ranging from a hand-wound movement displaying hours and minutes to a self-winding chronograph.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Three screws are enough to attach or remove any and all of the auxiliary modules, or sub-assemblies, comprising unusually few components, some 70 percent of which originate from the Grenchen area. To its makers’ pride, the assortiment is of chronometer quality and include a now-improved Sphero- drive device. Little wonder Eterna’s watchmakers and technicians feel a considerable measure of pride, matched only by its future wearers’ own enduring satisfation.

Royal KonTiki – from ports to sports
To keep global travellers happy, Eterna has fitted its new model with a second time-zone display. To attract sports enthusiasts, it designed the Royal KonTiki for sturdiness as much as for stylishness: it is water-resistant to a depth of 100 m. To its 42 mm Ø polished and satin-finished stainless steel case, Eterna designers have added sand-blasted curved grooves reminiscent of its 1970s predecessor. The new model’s generous curves are, however, all its own.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Efficient and practical for sports and travel
In addition to the four basic functions – hours, minutes, seconds and date – the Royal KonTiki’s black dial shows a second timezone via an easy-to-read ring, darker-hued for night hours over which sweeps a red-tipped fourth hand. A slim seconds hand moves over a minute track calibrated in fourth of a second while the hour and minute hands carry a strip of luminescent compound. A scratch- resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial face. Finally, PVD cladding on the five screws and on the crown guard along with a black rubber strap with standard pin buckle complete the design of the Royal KonTiki.

Inspired by their brand ambassador and experienced commercial diver Roman Frischknecht, the Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon is a timepiece specifically designed to meet the demands of the world of professional diving. Previously, no watch on the market offered a way of indicating the tidal range, which is important for professional divers like Frischknecht to know while working.

The Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon indicates the tidal range and lunar cycle at a glance using a unique dial design, removing the need for divers to consult constantly external manuals. It also incorporates Oris's patented Rotation Safety System, which allows the wearer to keep track of a certain time period using a rotating bezel that can be locked to prevent accidental adjustment, and an automatic helium escape valve. The Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon has a date aperture at 5 o'clock and centralised second, minute and hour displays.

BOVET - DIMIER Récital 10 7-Day Tourbillon Limited Edition

BOVET - DIMIER Récital 10 7-Day Tourbillon Limited Edition NEW

The House of BOVET launched in 2006 the Dimier collection in honor of the craftsmen of the eponymic Manufacture.

The origins of the inspiration are clearly spread between the two muses of this ultimate Récital model. The dial, the hands and the indications are from Récital 1, while the tourbillon carriage and the already emblematic shape of its bridges come from Récital 0. Observing the movement through the sapphire crystal case-back provides proof that the noblest expression of this fusion stems from a full-fledged new development. The centrings of the two barrels and of the going train are spread between two bridges that occupy an equal surface on the upper part of the mainplate. The design of one of them evokes the Récital 1 movement, and that of the other is reminiscent of Récital 0. Their respective outlines form two wings united in the centre of the movement and which literally send the airy, feather-light tourbillon soaring to heights of elegance and refinement.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

While, as one has come to expect from DIMIER watchmakers (BOVET’s Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie Artisanale), each detail of each component is decorated in accordance with BOVET’s specific aesthetic and quality criteria, it is the discretion and understatement of this Récital 10 Tourbillon that most vividly express its qualities. The emotion conveyed through each BOVET timepiece leads Pascal Raffy to say that they are made to be experienced. The enchanting, almost human and vibrant expression of the face of this Récital 10 certainly confirms this reality more powerfully than ever.

BOVET - Dimier Récital 10 7-Day Tourbillon White Gold Limited Edition

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..

The indications are distinctly laid out to enhance readability. The central hours and minutes are displayed by the House’s legendary pair of serpentine hands. The identically shaped power reserve hand at 12 o’clock marks off the 7-day autonomy on an exquisitely rimmed circular indicator.

The symmetry, the balance and the proportions must indeed be experienced in order to appreciate their extreme perfection. Another subtle symbol of this fusion lies in the seamless integration of the arms of the upper carriage bridge – stemming from Récital 0 within the perfect cut-out shape of the dial borrowed from Récital 1. The finely bevelled edges of these two elements are aligned with a precision that only a human hand could achieve. The contrasting colours and finishes between the two components sublimates each of them and at the same time contributes to achieving harmony between the two original inspirations. Finally, the circular Côtes de Genève adorning the dial radiates out from the tourbillon axis rather than from the centre of the timepiece itself.

After checking the time that is indicated, the gaze is naturally drawn to this concentric layout to the very heart and soul of the timepiece: the centre of the tourbillon which smiles at the collector in an infinitely appealing manner – once again confirming that this new interpretation by Pascal Raffy and his teams effectively celebrates the perfect juxtaposition between fine craftsmanship and technical sophistication as well as between historical heritage and innovative future.

Co-Pilot with a Tick
Timemaster Chronograph GMT S-RAY 007

A special watch for an exceptional project: together with the pilot and adventurer Iren Dornier, Chronoswiss launches a special edition of the Timemaster Chronograph GMT. A flying boat is hidden behind the melodious name S-RAY 007, with which Dornier will transverse the globe under the auspices of a charity project. Chronoswiss CEO Oliver Ebstein shares this love of aviation and also proudly owns a pilot’s license.

The models of the Timemaster line find their inspiration in pilot’s watches: details such as the extra-large crown and its sporty retro style are reminiscent of pilot’s watches of the 1940s. Through the creative input and expert knowledge of Iren Dornier, this special model is now even closer to aviation. A central design element is the artificial horizon*, which is now perpetuated on the dial. The stainless steel case of the robust automatic chronograph is coated with ultra-hard DLC, making it almost completely black. In contrast, the dial is painted grey, which effectively sets it apart from the white luminescent material of the hand and markers. Bright red “special effect” accents are found in the date window, the model name, and the special GMT hand pointing to the 24-hour divisions on the bezel.

Harry Winston - Midnight Monochrome Automatic

Harry Winston - Midnight Monochrome Automatic NEW

BaselWorld - 2013

Slate is Harry Winston’s source of inspiration for the Midnight Monochrome collection.

Pure lines create a powerful emotional identity. Harry Winston explores this approach through the “Monochrome” theme, an artistic creation designed as a dramatic climax, a breathing space intended to release an emotion nurtured by rigorous stylistic discipline.

What finer material could one hope for than slate to embody such a radically novel vision? Traditionally reserved for noble buildings, it continues to symbolize a certain architectural philosophy. With its pure and discreet shades of grey ensure it stands out from all other rocks. Endowed with such a beautiful nature, it naturally finds its way untouched through changing eras. A humble, and yet truly timeless material, it is Harry Winston’s source of inspiration for the Midnight Monochrome collection.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

In order to reproduce the unique structure of slate, the Harry Winston dial-makers developed a new technique far removed from the usual watchmaking finishes, honing it to create a plate with a truly slate-like effect. In addition to its mineral beauty, the dial thus guarantees a degree of longevity entirely in tune with the principles of excellence upheld by the House of Harry Winston.

The sophisticated yet understated metallic grey dial of the men’s model is animated by the hours, minutes and date indications. The silver white shade of the ladies’ model has been treated to a damask effect and makes a perfect match with the diamond-set bezel and lugs and the rose gold case. This 39 mm-diameter model is equipped with a quartz movement.

The men’s model is equipped with a white gold case with a 42 mm diameter. The mechanical automatic winding movement composed of 191 parts, circular-grained and adorned with Côtes de Genève, is visible through the sapphire crystal display back. It is equipped with two barrels including one with a slipping spring and has a 45-hour power reserve. Midnight Monochrome for men comes on a hand-sewn alligator leather strap with a white gold ardillon buckle.

Simple, yet sophisticated. Such is the art of transforming time exercised by Harry Winston. The Midnight Monochrome timepieces revisit the expertise of the brand and reveal its quintessence: a personality endowed with a perfect visual balance that lends its inimitable style to a collection that is truly unique in its kind.
