ETERNA – KonTiki Bronze Manufacture Edition

ETERNAKonTiki Bronze Manufacture Limited Edition

THE KONTIKI SETS SAIL

Eterna marks the 70th anniversary of Thor Heyerdahl’s legendary KonTiki expedition with a bold new limited edition timepiece manufactured, for the very first time, out of bronze.

Iconic design

In celebration of this important anniversary, the new Eterna KonTiki Bronze Manufacture Limited Edition continues the magnificent story of the KonTiki adventure with a bold and highly recognizable design. Trianguar luminescent hour markers are contrasted against a jet-black, granite-patterned dial that provides excellent legibility, while a unidirectional rotating bezel frames the dial with a decompression gauge. This decompression function provides divers with a useful backup to their diving computers as it indicates how long they can stay under water without needing to decompress.

With a water-resistance of 200 metres, the Eterna KonTiki Bronze Manufacture is ready for adventures both on the surface of the water and at the depths of the ocean. The diving style has not been neglected either, as the timepiece is  fitted with a water-resistant leather strap that is durable and comfortable and whose dark brown colour brings out the warmth of the bronze case.

This special collection dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the KonTiki expedition is limited to 300 pieces and is the perfect partner for today’s explorers who need a stylish timepiece that they can rely on as they embark on their very own adventures.

The beauty of bronze

The use of bronze has a long and renowned nautical history. For centuries, ships have relied on this metal alloy for its exceptional strength and resistance to rust and erosion. Even when it is in constant contact with salt water, bronze shows hardly any signs of corrosion, making it an excellent choice for the case of the new adventurous Eterna KonTiki Bronze Manufacture Limited Edition.

Bronze is able to resist the agressivity of salt water thanks to its ability to super cially oxidize and create a greenish/brown copper oxide layer that protects it from the elements. This layer is called a patina and develops di erently for each and every wearer, making it a practical, yet stylish material for a watch’s case.

This ancient alloy is highly appreciated by watch lovers for its ever-evolving colour, but also for its aged and weathered look that rhymes so perfectly with adventure, exploration, courage and strength. It is the perfect material for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the famous KonTiki expedition due to its vintage look and longstanding connection to the sea.

 KONTIKI
IN MEMORY OF AN ADVENTUROUS EXPEDITION

The watches in the KonTiki line are a reminder of thecourage and resolution of archaeologist and ethnologist Thor Heyerdahl. Back in 1947, the 32-year-old Norwegianand five other scientists set out from the Peruviancoast into the Pacific Ocean on a simple raft made ofbalsa wood named after Kon-Tiki, an Incan sun god.

Heyerdahl had embarked on his derring-do expeditionto prove that it would have been technically possible forthe pre-Columbian Indians of South America to reach Polynesia with the help of the Humboldt Current andthe Passat wind. On their wrists the researchers worespecially made, extremely tough and reliable watchesfrom Eterna’s workshops. The crew put their trust inthese indispensable navigation aids whenever theyhad to carry out manoeuvres or make decisionsupon which depended not only the success of theirmission but also the survival of the men themselves. After 101 days and nights on the high seas, with almost 8000 kilometres behind them, Thor Heyerdahl and hiscrew finally reached the Raroia atoll in Polynesia.

“Borders? I have never seen one. But I have heard they exist in the minds of some people.”
Thor Heyerdahl

Their watches likewise survived the journey and shownno sign of damage from salt water, the humidity orthe fluctuating temperatures. The technical findings andexpertise taken from the creation of the timepieces forthis successful expedition subsequently flowed into thefurther development of Eterna’s sports watches.

Mühle-Glashütte – Teutonia Sport I Chronograph

Mühle-GlashütteTeutonia Sport I Chronograph - 2017

A Need for Speed: the new Teutonia Sport I

Be it roaring down the Nürburgring race track or speeding down the slopes in the Swiss Alps, the new Teutonia Sport I doesn't just thrive on measuring the time it takes to cover a certain distance, but also loves to reveal speed measurements at a glance too.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This special feature of the new sport chronograph from the German town of Glashütte is all thanks to its clever tachymeter function. If the Teutonia Sport I is used to measure the time it takes to travel 1000 metres, the red scale on the flange of the watch enables you to read your speed at a glance.

A quick look at the calendar, however, tells us that the major highlight of the watch year 2017 is drawing even closer: the watch show in Basel, Switzerland, from 23rd to 30th March, which is the world's largest watch and jewellery show.

So in a few days you will be able to be impressed by our Teutonia Sport I and you can marvel at four new timepieces from Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte at the Baselworld show.

Come and visit us at Baselworld 2017

We would be delighted to present our new Mühle watches for 2017 and our entire collection of watches to you in more detail at the Baselworld show. Come and visit us at stand A39 in Hall 2.0 from 23rd to 30th March 2017!

-----------------
In Glashütte since 1869: Five Mühle Generations

Mühle and Glashütte – a long story, in the truest sense of the word. For our family has been resident in this region for 700 years. One of our ancestors was even raised to the rank of baron. Thus we have had a family crest since 1629, and above all a family motto which states: “Neither through hope, nor through fear”. This means that we are down-to-earth realists who tackle problems resolutely.

This is also precisely why we did not give up even when our company, which was founded in 1869, was threatened by world wars, socialism and expropriation. So today we can say with pride that the name “Mühle” has stood for precision and precision measuring for five generations already.

Our story started with the manufacture of measuring instruments, and nowadays we develop time measuring instruments. How did this come about? A long story, which is described briefly on the following pages. The inclusion of this story was important to us. After all, it is the foundation of what Mühle stands for today: elementary time measurement.

HAMILTON – Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono Black

HAMILTONKhaki Aviation X-Wind Auto Chrono Black PVD Steel 45 mm

Hamilton’s Khaki Aviation X-Wind line heads for new heights as the brand launches a new interpretation of its iconic X-Wind collection.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It was a Hamilton watch used on the first US postal service flight between Washington and New York, so aviation is nothing new to the brand whose prestigious aviation heritage dates back to 1919 and has included the rank of official supplier to the US Armed Forces since 1914. Geared toward the skyward bound, working with leading air squadrons and world famous pilots, Hamilton’s Khaki Aviation line is renowned for providing classic aviator styling and functions specific to pilots’ needs. Bursting with character rooted in aviation and the instruments that guide it, immeasurably technical and painstakingly precise, the big, aggressive Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono is no exception to this rule.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Racy black PVD decor underscores the line’s close ties with aviation, emphasizing its reputation for precision and technicity. A black leather strap is the finishing touch to the dark good looks of the new generation Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono which sports a robust 45 mm diameter with five characteristically chunky side elements in the form of an X and contrasting silver detail.

A place in another league

It goes without saying that the stainless steel with black PVD coating case of the latest iteration of the Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono naturally houses what really sets the X-Wind apart: one of the world’s first drift angle calculator in a watch. This enables pilots to accurately calculate and record the crosswinds they will encounter on their planned journey. Water-resistant to 10 bars (100 meters), the Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono is powered by a Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement that has been modified into the Hamilton caliber H-21 – upping the power reserve to an appropriately muscular 60 hours.

Each of the three counters feature stylized metal overlays complemented by two-tone brushed metal detailing around the day and date aperture at 9 o’clock, resulting in a singularly industrial look with a fascinating 3D effect.

HUBLOT – BIG BANG Unico Magic SAPPHIRE Edition

HUBLOTBIG BANG Unico Magic SAPPHIRE Chronograph Edition

THE TOTAL WHOLENESS OF THE VISIBLE AND THE INVISIBLE

BIG BANG UNICO MAGIC SAPPHIRE

When the magic of the basic pieces reinvented by Hublot
happens beneath the transparency of sapphire

Over the years, Hublot has promoted aesthetic and chromatic codes and materials to the ranks of distinctive benchmarks. The BIG BANG Unico Magic Sapphire brings together several of these, as evoked by its very name: an iconic watch, a Hublot movement, a historic signature and an acclaimed innovative material. Drawing on the mastery and expertise acquired in machining sapphire, it is pushing the boundaries even further by optimising the components while simplifying the construction of the case. Invisible visibility or visible invisibility, no concept can exist without its own opposite, and Hublot confirms the adage by blending the visible and the invisible.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In 2016, Hublot wrote a new page of its history, a first in terms of the machining of sapphire that it made more ‘widespread’ by successfully shaping it for more than just very limited series. Capitalising on this unique savoir-faire, it cut 500 new BIG BANG cases out of this material that is almost as hard as a diamond. A complex material, the most scratch-resistant and the most crystalline that exists, sculpted into the form of the iconic BIG BANG case.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In its ongoing quest for excellence, Hublot combined all the experience it had acquired from the BIG BANG Unico Sapphire and Big Bang Unico Sapphire All Black models onto the development of this new edition. A watch in ‘less is more’ mode featuring a simplified construction that is easier to assemble and, in addition, offers greater transparency and resistance. A greater visibility inside the case which no longer has titanium inserts for the bezel and the back. A greater shock resistance with one-piece components for the bezel and the back.

Game of opposites

A fusion of the visible and the invisible, the Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire, a watch that makes the complex simple, and the ordinary extraordinary, and yet seems to be of a completely natural obviousness. The middle, bezel and back of the case display total transparency and contrast with the finishing and textures of the dial which have assumed the emblematic aesthetic ‘Black Magic’ codes — a black skeleton dial sporting the iconic red second hand.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As for the strap, it comes in natural black rubber, the historic material of the brand. The duality between the visible and the invisible sets the tone for this piece. Under the effect of the transparency and the skeletal aspect, the mechanics of Unico HUB124 manufacture movement and its column wheel positioned on the dial side come into play. In terms of water resistance, this new edition can be used for diving up to 50 metres.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A piece that confirms Hublot’s pioneering and audacious spirit, having punctuated its history with innovations and firsts, the driving force behind its achievements nourished by its experience, curiosity and furious desire to always move forward. After months of developments, investments of several million and without making it lose its unique nature and rarity, Hublot has now raised sapphire to the ranks of its distinctive and exclusives ‘basic pieces’.

AEROWATCH – 1942 “Night & Day”

AEROWATCH1942 Night & Day” Stainless steel 35mm

Collection 1942 Night & Day

AEROWATCH has enriched its signature 1942 collection with a resolutely poetic and feminine timepiece. The innovative watchmaking company's latest creation showcases the horizon as a visible boundary between the sky and the earth.

The new "Night & Day" model is both elegant and seductive, gracing the feminine wrist in any setting and around the clock.

The sleek silhouette of the 35-mm stainless steel case and the unusual display of time are characteristic features of the "Night & Day".

As a manifestation of Swiss watchmaking artistry, the rotating 24-hour mother-of-pearl dial interprets the progression of the sun and the moon in a surprising way. Designed by master artisans, the sun glistens in the blue sky as it advances past the stationary blue dot and then sets beneath the horizon when the moon appears.

The refined ladies' watch is endowed with a Swiss quartz movement and keeps track of the time in an ingenious manner. The rotating blue-black dial indicates the hours opposite the pearly blue marker at 12 o'clock while the blue hand displays the minutes as it moves clockwise along the outer mat silvered ring.

A blue leather strap with a signature buckle rounds out the noble personality of this watch. This latest creation is available exclusively at Aerowatch points of sale.

CUERVO Y SOBRINOS – Torpedo Pirata Chrono Day Date Edition

CUERVO Y SOBRINOSTORPEDO Pirata Chrono Day Date Limited Edition

The Cuervo y Sobrinos brand couldn’t miss the chance to draw a parallel among the historical past of its place of origin. Secret beaches, buried treasures: Caribbean islands such as Cuba, Tortuga and Santo Domingo were once a favourite hunting ground for famous pirates.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Mirroring this spirit of freedom, daring and adventure, Cuervo y Sobrinos pays a tribute to its origin creating watches with a strong identity inspired by the adventurous and romantic spirit of the buccaneers. This is why within the bezel the sentence "Pirata de el Tiempo de la vida" is engraved.

The Torpedo Pirata watch is a wealth of details.

All the parts are clearly reminiscent of the brazenness of the great pirates: the case is in the shape of a cannon mouth while the lugs represent the bow of a ship plundering on the Caribbean Sea. The crown subtle design in the shape of the globe and the buckle recaptures the design of the lugs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

An important feature of this masterpiece is the modular case composed of rings uniquely tailored allowing to combine the various metals which create a watch with ongoing evolution. In fact, the stainless-steel material used in the current model, is the innovation compared to its predecessors made in bronze, the material preferred at the time of the great buccaneers of the 17th century.

The Torpedo Pirata Chrono Day Date houses an automatic movement, the black velvet effect of the chronograph’s dial combines a perfect balance of two counters: 12-hour scale and 30-minute counter. In addition to a central seconds’ counter, hours and minutes and also an independent second’s counter at 9 o’clock with printed Cuervo y Sobrinos blazon and day date window at 3 o'clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The sapphire crystal case-back on each model reveals the details of the automatic movement. Engraved on the crystal case-back a unique logo for this model, two “swords” surround the classic CyS logo, paying a tribute to the pirate world in which the watch was inspired.
