LAURENT FERRIER – GALET SQUARE

LAURENT FERRIERGALET SQUARE Stainless Steel NEW

The Galet asserts a new character

Hunter-type, cushion-type, tonneau-shaped: these words are all part of the shared vocabulary of watchmaking, but the term Galet (pebble) is inextricably entwined with the world of Laurent Ferrier. Galet is the name of the brand's first collection, unveiled in 2010. Five years later, polished by time and shaped by experience, the ‘pebble’ is being reinterpreted. At Baselworld 2015, Laurent Ferrier unveils its new model: the Galet Square.

Its evolution has been gentle and gradual, like the curves of minerals polished by the waves. The pebble, stemming from centuries of the incessantly repeated work of nature, embodies the purest expression of gentle shapes. For Laurent Ferrier, the Galet is the perfect integration of all parts of a case, as if one were holding a pebble in one’s hand. The whole challenge lay in preserving the spirit of the Galet, and of interpreting this new shape into the initial project without making a break with the past.

Laurent Ferrier humbly decided to approach his original Galet by starting with a blank page. Purpose and design (dessein and dessin in French) met and mingled under the swift strokes of his pencil, until a whole new shape was reached that is a first in the brand’s collections. The Galet Square is not a culminating point, but instead a new step in the ongoing affirmation of the Laurent Ferrier style.

A DESIGN IN WHICH EVERY DETAILS IS HONED TO PERFECTION

Technically speaking, the original Galet has become a square leaning towards a cushion shape. Laurent Ferrier has devoted particular attention to the aesthetic harmony of the model. This involved rigorous respect for the proportions between the volume of the case and that of the movement. The flowing lines designed five years ago by Laurent Ferrier have been maintained and are now housed within a new case that reprises every subtle detail. The difficulty of the exercise lay in preserving this aesthetic signature while gently shifting it towards new lines.

The Galet Square, measuring 41 x 41 mm, is intended to assert a bolder presence on the wrist than the models that inspired it. Its lines are writing a new chapter in the history of the Laurent Ferrier workshops.

THE COLLECTION WELCOMES ITS FIRST STEEL CASE

This is also the first time that Laurent Ferrier is introducing a steel case. The Galet Square, which is joining the brand’s regular collections, thereby opens up a whole new creative era for collections that had thus far been crafted only from rare and precious metals.

The movement is still the self-winding FBN 229.01 calibre with unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and a three-day power reserve. This is the third in-house movement developed, assembled and adjusted in the Laurent Ferrier workshops.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....                 BIG FOTO

It is equipped with silicon escapement featuring double direct impulse on the balance. This innovation developed by Laurent Ferrier enables the balance to be impelled twice per oscillation, a principle that requires two escape-wheels and an appropriately shaped lever.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....                 BIG FOTO

This modern construction, combined with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximises energy efficiency, thereby guaranteeing a high amplitude of the balance. This reduces the amount of mechanical force required to wind the mainspring and thus optimises winding.

ONE MODEL, TWO DIALS

In terms of finishing, Laurent Ferrier treats its Galet Square to two different dials. The first minimalist version features a sunburst gold-toned dial bearing three white gold hour-markers at 12, 3 and 9 o’clock, as well as small seconds at 6 0’clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....                 BIG FOTO

A second version has a blue dial featuring a vertical satin-brushed finish that is a favourite with Laurent Ferrier and creates a velvety sheen that is particularly pleasing to the eye. This variation features 11 white gold hour-markers.

The finishes shared by the two models reflect the high standards Laurent Ferrier imposes on all its creations. All are performed in keeping with the finest watchmaking traditions. Alongside the Côtes de Genève motif on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the wheel spokes are bevelled, the screw hands are chamfered and polished, the interior angles are hand-crafted. The sapphire crystal case-back provides a fascinating glimpse of this fine workmanship and reveals an attractively balanced structure stemming from a clever combination of lines and curves.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX – Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT

GIRARD-PERREGAUX TRAVELLER Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT NEW

For the first time the emblematic Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT
watch features a transparent dial.

Available in either classy stainless steel or an elegant pink gold version, this new Traveller model displays both a strong character and high degree of sophistication. A watch of great technical efficiency, its case houses an automatic mechanical movement manufactured in-house by Girard-Perregaux and notably offering large date, second time zone, moon phase and small second functions.

This latest creation from Girard-Perregaux features three watch complications housed in a case with contemporary dimensions and a 44 mm diameter, and available in either stainless steel or pink gold. For the first time in the Traveller collection, the metallic gray sapphire dial subtly reveals its finest display at 12 o'clock, in the form of the large date mechanism.

This mechanism is the subject of an exclusive Girard-Perregaux patent. It is a sophisticated device made up of two superimposed disks incorporated into the GP03300 automatic caliber. The juxtaposition of the disks, one of which has pieces made of transparent folanorm with a thickness of only 0.10 mm, ensures an aesthetically perfect display in which there is no visible separation between the two disks.

The most outstanding of these complications, the moon phase indication, is both realistic and extremely poetic, and is perfectly represented by an impressive metallic treatment. A further subtle detail of this model is that the moon phase indication is directly attached to the barrel, thus allowing for a very high degree of accuracy. Adjusted by a corrector button situated at 8 o'clock, it is surrounded by a circular satin-brushed ring and features a small second hand at its center. The most observant may note that the Milky Way even mischievously conceals the brand's logo with one of its stars!

Positioned between 4 and 5 o'clock, the information about the second time zone is cleverly merged with the moon phase indicator. The timepiece's highly accurate dial clearly fulfills its role as a subliminal invitation to travel. The influence of the meridians highlights its impressive volume. While the lines of the Earth's parallels merge into the sapphire crystal, the beveled applied hour-markers give an added richness of detail and interplay of light.

Water-resistant at up to ten atmospheres (or a depth of approx. 100 meters), the satin-brushed and polished case in steel or 18K pink gold with a 44 mm diameter and a thickness of 12.10 mm protects from external contact a GP 03300-0109 automatic manufacture caliber.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                     FOTO

Visible through the transparent case-back, the automatic movement measuring 13½ lignes (equivalent to a diameter of 30.40 mm) reveals an oscillating weight inspired by the shape of the Girard-Perregaux tourbillon bridge. With 35 jewels and a 46-hour power reserve, this magnificent mechanism has a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour for maximum accuracy.

To make the Traveller Large Date Moon Phases & GMT watch as comfortable as possible for the wearer, every last detail has been attended to, from the curve of the case band to the alignment of the screwed-down crown. Fitted with ample lugs, its comfort and fine design make this model very attractive. Available with an alligator skin strap, this new model is attached to the wrist by a folding clasp that is a perfect combination of elegance and sportiness.

DeWitt – High Jewellery Princess Marie-Clotilde

DeWittHigh Jewellery Princess Marie-Clotilde White Gold

The DeWitt Manufacture has created a masterpiece of
the watchmaker's and the jeweller's art: a unique timepiece
with transparent features and finely-worked gold decoration

Count Jérôme de Witt, the founder of the Manufacture and creator of DeWitt watches created this exceptional High Jewellery work of art, a masterpiece of both the watchmaker's and the jeweller's art, with the intention of paying tribute to his mother, HI&RH Princess Marie-Clotilde Napoléon.

The gem-setting technique used in this piece is ground-breaking, seeming to leave the diamonds in suspension, free of all ties of material and form.

The observer's gaze is relentlessly drawn down into the depths of a translucent block and captivated by its surprising transparency.

This High Jewellery timepiece is adorned with a total of 405 baguette-cut diamonds (totalling about 13 carats).

The emblematic imperial columns that decorate the majority of DeWitt watches have been delicately reworked to enhance the timepiece's unique, ethereal setting.

With its 36-mm diameter, the Marie-Clotilde watch beats to the rhythm of a mechanical self-winding movement, equipped with a 42-hour power reserve.

The open-worked hours hand is delicately sculpted in the shape of a heart, while the open-worked seconds hand is in the form of a double-edged sword, a common feature of DeWitt timepieces.

The crown and buckle, each crafted in 18-carat white gold, polished and delicately engraved with the brand's distinctive ‘W’ signature, give an additional elegant touch to the watch's finishes, enhanced by a deep red alligator wristband.

By placing technical expertise at the service of beauty and the highest quality, the DeWitt Manufacture has here produced an authentic watchmaking work of art, creative in both its design and in the structure around which it is built.

F.P.Journe – Historic Tourbillon Anniversary Edition

F.P.JourneLimited SERIES Historic Tourbillon 30th Anniversary Limited Edition

The Historic Tourbillon F.P.Journe awarded
Best of the Best 2015” by Robb Report
To celebrate 30 years of exceptional watch creations and commemorate his first pocket watch, François-Paul Journe presents a new interpretation of the original in the form of a wristwatch. 99 pieces only of this watch will be produced.

This wristwatch, re-interpretation of the original masterpiece presents the same materials used 30 years ago : a case in guilloche silver enhanced by 2 gold bezels in rose gold 4N.

The transparent sapphire back reveals the Tourbillon movement of classic construction made in grained and gilded brass, identical to the original of 1983. Two parallel barrels distribute energy to a wheels train, arranged in the axis of the watch, which runs the Tourbillon revolving in 1 minute. The lateral pallet escapement, which is more compatible with a wristwatch, replaces the detent escapement of the original, and the winding and time setting with a key have now been replaced by the 3 o’clock crown.

Jaeger-LeCoultre – Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Special London Flagship Edition

Jaeger-LeCoultre – Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Special London Flagship Edition NEW

13 Old Bond Street, London, June 10th, 2015.

Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils its latest tribute to Britain
Special London Flagship edition

“The timepiece is the most limited in the tribute series of the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 collection”, says Stephane Belmont, Creation & Marketing Executive Director of the Manufacture. “With only 26 pieces to be made, following on from the acclaimed “Rouge” model and the delicious “Chocolat” model in this tribute collection, the special London Flagship edition dial is a beautiful deep green lacquered dial, reminiscent of the rolling British countryside and of course with a nod to the legendary sporting colour.”

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...           BIG FOTO

The deep green colour is dear to many at Jaeger-LeCoultre, including Design and Artistic Director, Janek Deleskiewicz, whose time as a young man in England in the 1960s and 1970s form some of his greatest memories of freedom and during which he collected many eclectic objects from around the country, and also became interested in beautiful cars at that time.

What’s more is that since those days, Deleskiewicz has been totally in love with the surprise and elegance of British tailoring – many of his suits have this deep green silk lining.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...           BIG FOTO

The second side on the solid case back features an exquisite engraving of the Palace of Westminster featuring the famous clock tower endearingly called Big Ben, drawn by Deleskiewicz himself. “There is perhaps no better symbol of democracy and commemoration place for great world leaders, and iconic architecture and chime than Big Ben”, continues Belmont.  The charm of Big Ben has captured the Manufacture’s imagination for many years. In fact, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre a Grande Sonnerie – one of the most complicated watches in the world – chimes all the notes and the full melody of Big Ben.

Zahra Kassim-Lakha, Director UK Marketing & Global Strategy is “proud that British-mania continues to thrive at Jaeger-LeCoultre. This Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Special London edition is exclusive to the Maison’s elegant new flagship at 13 Old Bond Street, opened in late April. I invite collectors and lovers of design to discover this piece this summer. With Big Ben and Reverso, it is nothing short of two icons in one.”

From the 1851 Universal Exhibition in London, where Antoine LeCoultre was awarded his first gold medal for his major contribution to the development of the watchmaking industry, to the development of the Calibre 101 that equipped the watch worn by Queen Elizabeth II on her Coronation day, through the iconic Reverso watch, originally created in 1931 for British officers playing polo in India… numerous examples that illustrate the very special emotions that unite the Manufacture of the Vallée de Joux and the United Kingdom.

The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Special London Flagship Edition is available in a short series of 26 pieces exclusively at the Jaeger-LeCoultre London Flagship on 13 Old Bond Street, with deliveries starting this summer.
