Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of the MRG-G1000HT, a 20th anniversary model to commemorate the original launch of its flagship MR-G series in the G-SHOCK line. Employing the theme of tsuiki,* a traditional Japanese metalworking technique, Casio designed the new MRG-G1000HT in collaboration with a third-generation master artisan in the field, Bihou Asano. A limited run of 300 watches will be sold worldwide.

*Tsuiki is a metalworking technique by which a sheet of metal is hammered out thinly into a three-dimensional shape. Historically it was used to make copperware and other metal containers, as well as armor and helmets, which needed to be made both thin and strong. Nowadays, the technique is applied to produce components for rail cars, aircraft, and other items.

The MR-G series offers the ultimate in tough watch design. It combines a sense of quality evoked
by finely finished titanium with the distinctively solid feel of G-SHOCK, which conveys its shock-resistant performance. MR-G has gained popularity among adults who want to enjoy a G-SHOCK for many years to come.

Casio boldly combined practicality and beauty under the theme of tsuiki in the design of the new MRG-G1000HT, while also realizing the MR-G concepts of extreme toughness and highly refined elegance. In collaboration with Bihou Asano, Casio produced a watch with a stately appearance and a beautifully pounded finish achieved through meticulous workmanship. Asano is a master tsuiki artisan who has created works for the Kyoto State Guest House and participated in restoration work of items designated as Important Cultural Properties in Japan.

This special edition timepiece is designed using the Japanese Tsu-i-ki technique; a traditional craft method that creates unique relief patterns through hammering. The Tsu-i-ki method has been used to create parts of the Japanese Railway, Bullet Train and Flying Machines. The creative application aligns with G-Shock‘s position & reputation of toughness and precision.

For the bezel and the band, Casio produced a distinctive luster by applying a special Japanese “Oboro-gin” (silver-grey color) finish traditionally used for sword accessories and ornaments. On the screws and buttons, the watch also features an “Akagane” (copper color) finish, which was used to give Japanese traditional armor and handicrafts their distinctively deep brilliance.

Learning from these traditional metalworking techniques, Casio gave the entire MRG-G1000HT a dignified and attractively brilliant finish worthy of its status as a 20th anniversary model, denoted by a metal plate at the 10 o’clock position engraved with “20th LIMITED” and a serial number engraved on the back case.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                         BIG FOTO

The MRG-G1000HT timepiece features the hammer finishing on both bezel and center band links. The luxury timepiece includes highlights in Oboro-gin in addition to Akagene. Oboro-gin is a stunning dark silver hue while Akagene is a handsome copper alloy with 3-5% gold. Both materials are native to traditional Japanese craftwork.

Like the MRG-G1000 model it is based on, the new MRG-G1000HT comes with an advanced timekeeping system that receives both Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite signals and radio wave time-calibration signals, and features Dual Dial World Time, which displays times in two cities simultaneously.

Upholding the unparalleled craftsmanship and reliability that G-SHOCK MR-G wearers have come to expect, the MRG-G1000HT features a GPS controlled Multi-Band 6, Tough solar, Sapphire Glass (Anti-Glare). The case and bracelet are made out of Titanium and undergo a deep layer hardening process and DLC coating making it exquisitely tough.

This exclusive timepiece also comes equipped with shock resistance, 200 M Water Resistance, Latitude Indicator, Airplane Mode, World Time (40 time zones, 27 Cities+UTC), LED (Super Illuminator), Daily Alarm, Full Auto Calendar, 1/20th Sec. Stopwatch, Countdown Timer (24Hr), Day/Date Display and a case size of 54.7mm.

The MRG-G1000HT MR-G limited edition will retail for $6,200 USD and will be available for purchase July 2016. Only 300 pieces will be available worldwide. The model will be sold at Tourneau and key select independent jewelers.

About G-SHOCK
CASIO’s shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch is synonymous with toughness, born from the developer Mr. Ibe’s dream of ‘creating a watch that never breaks’. Over 200 handmade samples were created and tested to destruction until finally in 1983 the first, now iconic G-SHOCK hit the streets of Japan and began to establish itself as ‘the toughest watch of all time’. Each watch encompasses the 7 elements; electric shock resistance, gravity resistance, low temperature resistance, vibration resistance, water resistance, shock resistance and toughness. The watch is packed with Casio innovations and technologies to prevent it from suffering direct shock; this includes internal components protected with urethane and suspended timekeeping modules inside the watch structure. Since its launch, G-SHOCK has continued to evolve, continuing to support on Mr. Ibe’s mantra “never, never give up”.

JUNGHANS – MEISTER Pilot Chronoscope

JUNGHANS MEISTER Pilot Chronoscope NEW

The fascination of flying is alive

The maiden flight was a complete success. Now the runway is clear again, the engines are running and per-mission has been granted for the series model of the Meister Pilot to take off.

Optimal altitude

Following the successful launch of the Meister Pilot Event Edition in the scope of an event at the headquarters of Junghans, the series model of the Meister Pilot is now also on board. The unmistakable design and mechanical independence make the timepiece the perfect wrist-borne co-pilot. The distinctive design elements of the legendary Junghans pilot watch from the 1950s are also to be found in the series model of the Meister Pilot.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..                  BIG FOTO

The timepiece combines these with the smooth and stylish design of the current Meister collection. The elegant and discreet design of the case and the flowing shape of the lugs focus the attention of the pilot on the large time display.

The domed sapphire crystal provides an ideal view of the clear luminescent numerals and distinctive hands. The watch enables good legibility, even in poor lighting conditions and at night. On the dial itself there is a bicompax display, the two totalisers of which are laid out on the 3-9 axis.

Continued tradition

The high demands placed on timekeeping by aviation were first addressed by Junghans in the 1930s, when the company produced on-board clocks for air traffic use. These were manufactured in level 7 of the now heritage-listed terrace building, the structure offered optimal lighting conditions for the delicate task of watchmaking. The classic instrument appearance of the cockpit was also reflected in the legendary Bundeswehr chronograph of 1955.

The design of the Meister Pilot harks back to this: on the bi-directional rotating bezel the 12 distinctive, concave notches ensure a good grip as well as the unmistakable appearance of the timepiece.

The screwed case back features a distinctive element: a specially-designed compass rose, which incorporates the symbolism of classic aviation in the form of an artificial horizon.

The riveted leather strap ensures a secure fit on the wrist. The particular construction of the front assembly lends the timepiece an unusual elegance for a pilot watch – and the lightness required for take-off.

BREITLING – SUPEROCEAN 44 Special Black

BREITLING SUPEROCEAN 44 Special Black NEW

The ocean pilot

Black and white aviator-type watches ensuring excellent readability are well-known instruments and divers are now being treated to their very own “ocean pilot” featuring a black steel case, black ceramic bezel and a black dial bearing large luminescent indications enabling them to plunge safely to a depth of 1,000 m (3,300 ft). The art of combining originality and efficiency.

Since 1957, Breitling Superocean models have been distinguished by their exceptional performance combined with an eminently technical and professional style. The new Superocean 44 Special confirms this resolutely feats-oriented vocation through an original design in which every detail is designed to meet the demands of an authentic diver’s watch.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....                    BIG FOTO

The sturdy satin-brushed black steel case, fitted with a twin-gasket screw-locked crown, guarantees water resistance to a depth of 1,000 m (3,330 ft). It is equipped with a safety valve serving to equal out the differences in pressure inside and outside the watch.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....                    BIG FOTO

The brand-new rotating bezel in shiny black ceramic, a particularly resistant high- tech material, guarantees an accurate dive-time count-off. Its unidirectional rotating system avoids any inadvertent extension of the measured time in case of wrong handling, while the ratcheted profile ensures an optimal grip even with gloves.

The powerful contrast between the all-black exterior and the white indications, accentuated by a luminescent coating, ensures optimal readability in the darkness of the oceans. All the markers are strongly oversized so as to catch the eye: large baton-type hands clearly distinguishing the hours from the minutes, different- shaped hour-markers for five-minute intervals, quarters and 12 o’clock; and a bezel with 60-minute scale also highlighting five-minute intervals, quarters and 12 o’clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....

Thanks to the red-tipped seconds hand with its small luminescent triangle, the diver can at any stage check at a glance whether the movement is operating. The sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides further facilitates readings even in the heat of action.

Equipped with a 44 mm-diameter case, the Superocean 44 Special houses a selfwinding movement officially chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), the only precision and reliability benchmark based on an international norm. It is teamed with a black rubber strap featuring Breitling’s signature and raised central ridge, or a row of holes.

HYSEK – Abyss Automatic Tourbillon Edition

HYSEKABYSS 44mm Automatic Tourbillon Limited Edition NEW

THREE ABYSS MODELS MARK
THE ADVENT OF A NEW DECADE OF CREATIVITY

The tenth anniversary celebrations of Hysek’s landmark Abyss collection (2005-2015) were scarcely over when the manufacture announced the first models for the next decade: the new Abyss Automatic Tourbillon collection.

Three new models are being unveiled at Baselworld. The first has a rose gold case and the second a titanium case, while the third and final version features a case combining rose gold and black PVD. Each of the variations embodies the quintessence of the Hysek style: powerful lines, a bold design, assertive creativity, and particular attention to the smallest detail, with all finishings completed to the highest standards of fine watchmaking.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

Transparency and geometry

The new Abyss collection is powered by an automatic tourbillon calibre. The watch’s aesthetic balance is bound up with this regulating component located at 10 o’clock – an unusual position in traditional watchmaking, but one for which Hysek has a predilection, thus asserting its complete creative independence. This is balanced by a double large date disc made from a special aluminium alloy, placed opposite at 2 o’clock. The timepiece also features a power reserve indicator at 7 o’clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

To highlight the aesthetics of this subtle composition, Hysek has used a sapphire dial, set snugly around the edges of the tourbillon and large date display. The sculpted half-moon-shape sapphire crystal reveals the intimate details of the in-house movement – the HW03A calibre.
The new Abyss models offer breath-taking views of their mechanical innards, powered by a highly skeletonised tourbillon, with a ‘flying’ design to avoid an upper bridge obstructing the view. A large golden balance wheel contrasts with the movement’s anthracite NAC finish.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

The crescent-moon-shaped cut-out in the sapphire dial is highlighted by an appliqué arc that links the different functions of the timepiece, reaching from the tourbillon to the power reserve, via the large date display – a unifying feature of the Abyss that provides both aesthetic and technical coherence. The appliqué features a dark grey angle-polished finish, showing off the chamfers – gold- or rhodium-plated, depending on the version.

Details for expert purists

Purists will delight in spotting all the details of watchmaking art visible throughout the new Abyss. For instance, Hysek is one of the very few manufactures to design and produce its own hands in-house. There are two distinct kinds for the Abyss.

The first is dedicated to the central time display: depending on the case finishes, they are either golden or rhodium-plated, with SuperLumiNova infills. Meanwhile the power reserve hand embodies characteristic attention to detail with genuine 3D sculpting – a contemporary, exclusive design that’s dear to Hysek’s heart.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

On the rear, the new Abyss collection boasts a fully skeletonised oscillating weight, borne on ceramic ball bearings by a rhodium-plated 22-carat gold insert sporting Hysek’s five distinctive circular openings. The same motif is also to be found on the manufacture’s proprietary – and legendary – swivel lugs. These are an integral part of the firm’s DNA, ensuring its timepieces always fit snugly on the wrist and providing the last word in comfort. Hysek’s CEO, Mr Akram ALJORD himself, guarantees the individual quality of each of these three editions of 88 timepieces: the sapphire back of each of the new Abyss Automatic Tourbillon watches bears his signature.

ORIS – Aquis El Hierro Limited Edition

ORIS Aquis El Hierro Limited Edition NEW

Oris’s deep commitment
The independent Swiss watchmaker’s latest diver’s watch is inspired by a submarine volcano

Oris’ latest diver’s watch is inspired by a submarine volcano located off the coast of El Hierro, the most south-western of the Spanish-owned Canary Islands.

In October 2011, strange activity was observed off the coast of El Hierro, the most south-western of the Spanish-owned Canary Islands. Patches of pale-coloured water began appearing, dead fish floated on the ocean surface, and locals noted a strong smell of sulphur in the air. It turned out that these were the first signs of a submarine volcanic eruption, some 1,000 metres below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. The eruption continued until March the following year, leaving the cone of the volcano just 86 metres below the water’s surface.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

The independent Swiss watchmaker Oris has partnered with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) to support three student scholarships at the Faculty of Marine Sciences at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). The travel scholarships will be open to those studying for a Master’s degree in oceanography and will include internships which will be framed to the Master thesis project in relation to the El Hierro volcano. Despite being a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2000, the volcanic El Hierro is the least studied of the Canary Islands.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

Funds for Oris’s contribution to the scholarship will be raised through sales of the Oris El Hierro Limited Edition watch, a black DLC-coated version of the Oris Aquis. The back of the watch will feature an engraving of the volcano and its coordinates. The new El Hierro Limited Edition watch mimics the volcanic rock with its black and grey colour scheme, while the red used on the bezel minutes scale, dial and central seconds hand represent molten lava.
