Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of the MRG-G1000HT, a 20th anniversary model to commemorate the original launch of its flagship MR-G series in the G-SHOCK line. Employing the theme of tsuiki,* a traditional Japanese metalworking technique, Casio designed the new MRG-G1000HT in collaboration with a third-generation master artisan in the field, Bihou Asano. A limited run of 300 watches will be sold worldwide.

*Tsuiki is a metalworking technique by which a sheet of metal is hammered out thinly into a three-dimensional shape. Historically it was used to make copperware and other metal containers, as well as armor and helmets, which needed to be made both thin and strong. Nowadays, the technique is applied to produce components for rail cars, aircraft, and other items.

The MR-G series offers the ultimate in tough watch design. It combines a sense of quality evoked
by finely finished titanium with the distinctively solid feel of G-SHOCK, which conveys its shock-resistant performance. MR-G has gained popularity among adults who want to enjoy a G-SHOCK for many years to come.

Casio boldly combined practicality and beauty under the theme of tsuiki in the design of the new MRG-G1000HT, while also realizing the MR-G concepts of extreme toughness and highly refined elegance. In collaboration with Bihou Asano, Casio produced a watch with a stately appearance and a beautifully pounded finish achieved through meticulous workmanship. Asano is a master tsuiki artisan who has created works for the Kyoto State Guest House and participated in restoration work of items designated as Important Cultural Properties in Japan.

This special edition timepiece is designed using the Japanese Tsu-i-ki technique; a traditional craft method that creates unique relief patterns through hammering. The Tsu-i-ki method has been used to create parts of the Japanese Railway, Bullet Train and Flying Machines. The creative application aligns with G-Shock‘s position & reputation of toughness and precision.

For the bezel and the band, Casio produced a distinctive luster by applying a special Japanese “Oboro-gin” (silver-grey color) finish traditionally used for sword accessories and ornaments. On the screws and buttons, the watch also features an “Akagane” (copper color) finish, which was used to give Japanese traditional armor and handicrafts their distinctively deep brilliance.

Learning from these traditional metalworking techniques, Casio gave the entire MRG-G1000HT a dignified and attractively brilliant finish worthy of its status as a 20th anniversary model, denoted by a metal plate at the 10 o’clock position engraved with “20th LIMITED” and a serial number engraved on the back case.

The MRG-G1000HT timepiece features the hammer finishing on both bezel and center band links. The luxury timepiece includes highlights in Oboro-gin in addition to Akagene. Oboro-gin is a stunning dark silver hue while Akagene is a handsome copper alloy with 3-5% gold. Both materials are native to traditional Japanese craftwork.

Like the MRG-G1000 model it is based on, the new MRG-G1000HT comes with an advanced timekeeping system that receives both Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite signals and radio wave time-calibration signals, and features Dual Dial World Time, which displays times in two cities simultaneously.

Upholding the unparalleled craftsmanship and reliability that G-SHOCK MR-G wearers have come to expect, the MRG-G1000HT features a GPS controlled Multi-Band 6, Tough solar, Sapphire Glass (Anti-Glare). The case and bracelet are made out of Titanium and undergo a deep layer hardening process and DLC coating making it exquisitely tough.

This exclusive timepiece also comes equipped with shock resistance, 200 M Water Resistance, Latitude Indicator, Airplane Mode, World Time (40 time zones, 27 Cities+UTC), LED (Super Illuminator), Daily Alarm, Full Auto Calendar, 1/20th Sec. Stopwatch, Countdown Timer (24Hr), Day/Date Display and a case size of 54.7mm.

The MRG-G1000HT MR-G limited edition will retail for $6,200 USD and will be available for purchase July 2016. Only 300 pieces will be available worldwide. The model will be sold at Tourneau and key select independent jewelers.

About G-SHOCK
CASIO’s shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch is synonymous with toughness, born from the developer Mr. Ibe’s dream of ‘creating a watch that never breaks’. Over 200 handmade samples were created and tested to destruction until finally in 1983 the first, now iconic G-SHOCK hit the streets of Japan and began to establish itself as ‘the toughest watch of all time’. Each watch encompasses the 7 elements; electric shock resistance, gravity resistance, low temperature resistance, vibration resistance, water resistance, shock resistance and toughness. The watch is packed with Casio innovations and technologies to prevent it from suffering direct shock; this includes internal components protected with urethane and suspended timekeeping modules inside the watch structure. Since its launch, G-SHOCK has continued to evolve, continuing to support on Mr. Ibe’s mantra “never, never give up”.

JUNGHANS – MEISTER Pilot Chronoscope

JUNGHANS MEISTER Pilot Chronoscope NEW

The fascination of flying is alive

The maiden flight was a complete success. Now the runway is clear again, the engines are running and per-mission has been granted for the series model of the Meister Pilot to take off.

Optimal altitude

Following the successful launch of the Meister Pilot Event Edition in the scope of an event at the headquarters of Junghans, the series model of the Meister Pilot is now also on board. The unmistakable design and mechanical independence make the timepiece the perfect wrist-borne co-pilot. The distinctive design elements of the legendary Junghans pilot watch from the 1950s are also to be found in the series model of the Meister Pilot.

The timepiece combines these with the smooth and stylish design of the current Meister collection. The elegant and discreet design of the case and the flowing shape of the lugs focus the attention of the pilot on the large time display.

The domed sapphire crystal provides an ideal view of the clear luminescent numerals and distinctive hands. The watch enables good legibility, even in poor lighting conditions and at night. On the dial itself there is a bicompax display, the two totalisers of which are laid out on the 3-9 axis.

Continued tradition

The high demands placed on timekeeping by aviation were first addressed by Junghans in the 1930s, when the company produced on-board clocks for air traffic use. These were manufactured in level 7 of the now heritage-listed terrace building, the structure offered optimal lighting conditions for the delicate task of watchmaking. The classic instrument appearance of the cockpit was also reflected in the legendary Bundeswehr chronograph of 1955.

The design of the Meister Pilot harks back to this: on the bi-directional rotating bezel the 12 distinctive, concave notches ensure a good grip as well as the unmistakable appearance of the timepiece.

The screwed case back features a distinctive element: a specially-designed compass rose, which incorporates the symbolism of classic aviation in the form of an artificial horizon.

The riveted leather strap ensures a secure fit on the wrist. The particular construction of the front assembly lends the timepiece an unusual elegance for a pilot watch – and the lightness required for take-off.
