The company has all the wealth of a long history behind it dating from its creation in the 19th century in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the ultimate watchmaking town. It was founded by two great visionary entrepreneurs, Cuthbert Keynes and Absalom McPherson, and today, its headquarters are to be found in Solothurn, at the foot of the Jura mountains, where the very heart of Swiss watchmaking beats to this day to the accompaniment of the greatest brands in the industry. Manjaz has enjoyed consistent growth in the 20th century, firmly rooted in a philosophy based on three key principles: quality above all things, unremitting innovation and an on-going quest for perfection. Manjaz was notably the first company to produce a pocket watch with a scale map engraved on the case, which became the timepiece of reference for senior officers in the Spanish navy. It subsequently continued to produce exceptional watches renowned the world over for their pure lines and classical timelessness, progressively developing a high-tech infrastructure enabling it to manufacture watches fulfilling the most stringent quality criteria.
ASIA AS A PRIME MARKET
Headed by Mr. Hubert Fluri since 1972, Manjaz is building a long-term development strategy and making substantial investments in research and development in Switzerland. The brand is also renowned for having developed privileged relationships with the Asian markets considerably ahead of its competitors. Today, the brand’s principal aim remains to fulfil the needs of this clientele, which has been unremittingly true to both this company from the Jura mountains and its products.
Manjaz positions itself in the “affordable luxury” segment, with a product offering that ranges mainly from 380 to 5,000 Swiss francs, and classical, elegant, timeless lines, targeting both men and women, and all equipped with Swiss-made mechanical and quartz movements.
A YEAR 2012 BRIMMING WITH CREATIVITY
In 2012, for the first time in its history, Manjaz is proud to present two haute horlogerie models with an exclusive tourbillon. These different and yet inextricably associated timepieces reflect the name and the principle of complementarity contained in the oriental “Yin and Yang” symbolism. And that’s not all in terms of innovation!
2012 sees the launch of the new Engineer Series embodying the brand’s commitment to sustainable development, while the timeless Dev Series will be enriched during the year with two new versions. The first will be a limited edition in reference to the year of the Dragon, in which the pink or yellow gold case will frame an openworked dial adorned with the emblematic Chinese symbol. The second version will be equipped with a Soprod module and feature either a second time zone or a power-reserve indication, both positioned at 6 o’clock.
On the occasion of Baselworld 2012, Manjaz proudly presents its first tourbillons, which simultaneously affirms its place within the Swiss watchmaking tradition, and its respect for Asian philosophy – since the two versions are named Yin and Yang.

The Tourbillon is one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful horological complication, invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet to compensate for the effects of gravity on the rate of the balance. In developing its tourbillons, Manjaz drew up on the expertise of one of Switzerland’s finest watchmaking artisans, Cédric Grandperret.

The latter came up with a classic and accurate solution that is clearly designed to endure, an approach he explains in these terms: “As far as I’m concerned, I work in harmony with traditional horology. I am keen to compose models based on tried and tested techniques and materials. My only goal is to satisfy my clients, including Manjaz, with movements that work in a truly reliable manner”.

In this instance, Cédric Grandperret and Manjaz have chosen a tourbillon with a relatively low frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations/hour), for reasons relating both its reliability and its aesthetic appeal. In this way, the wearer of the watch can admire the complication without any difficulty. That is also why the tourbillon has been placed at 6 o’clock on the dial, thereby beautifully highlighting it yet without disturbing the reading of the time nor the architecture of the watch. On the contrary, it magnifies it and underscores the overall symmetry of the various elements.
