HAMILTON – Intra-Matic 68 Chronograph Edition

HAMILTONIntra-Matic 68 Chronograph Steel 42 mm Limited Edition

A limited edition inspired by the historical Chronograph B of 1968 and
known by connoisseurs for its black and white reversed “panda” dial.

In 1968 Hamilton presented two new timepieces among others, the Chronograph A with black subdials on a white dial, and the Chronograph B with two white subdials lying against a black background, creating a “reverse panda” face. This type of dial design was very popular in the 60s and 70s, crossing the ages until this day with perhaps more fans than before. A strong character watch with a clean and monochrome design, and highly valued today by collectors.

Great attention to detail was a key request for the new Intra-Matic 68 Auto Chrono, and many elements have almost remained untouched. The dial in particular stays true to the “reverse” panda face of the timepiece’s origins, and is circled by a white tachymeter scale. Black and white seems to be the overall theme of the watch, with the date on a dark background, a snowy white central chronograph seconds hand and black lacquered counter hands. Inside the polished stainless steel case is the automatic H-31 movement and its 60-hour power reserve, a technical extension most welcome in today’s busy lives. Additional parts that have been adapted to present taste include a 42mm case, bigger than its predecessor, and Super-LumiNova® coating on the hour and minute hands for higher legibility.

True to its origin

Sure to delight Hamilton aficionados and collectors alike, the Intra-Matic 68 Auto Chrono emulates that of its illustrious inspiration with vintage-feel pushers placed on each side of the crowns and the same solid stainless steel case back. This overall retro character and sense of heritage is further accentuated by a domed-shape dial and curved hands. The black calf leather strap is a cut-edge type, which uses the most traditional strap-production techniques, and is gently perforated for a 60’s-style sporty touch.

An ideal companion for individuals of character with a taste for vintage charm and watchmaking heritage, the 1,968-piece limited edition Intra-Matic 68 comes with a special luxury packaging as the ultimate finishing touch.

IWC – DA VINCI Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”

IWC SchaffhausenDA VINCI Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”

THE DREAM OF A YOUNG BOY
DA VINCI CHRONOGRAPH EDITION “LAUREUS SPORT FOR GOOD FOUNDATION”

The Da Vinci Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” is one of the highlights of the current Da Vinci collection. Every year, IWC Schaffhausen presents a limited special edition, part of the proceeds from which is used to help disadvantaged children and young people. On the back of the watch is a drawing by a Chinese boy, with which he won the global children’s drawing competition.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Da Vinci Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” (Ref. IW393402) has a blue dial and a diameter of 42 millimetres. Newly developed moving horns with curved lugs ensure that the black alligator leather strap by Santoni fits wrists perfectly. The stainless-steel chronograph shows elapsed minutes and hours on a subdial, so that the stopped times can be read off as if on an analogue watch. As usual, the timepiece has a central chronograph hand to show seconds.

The in-house 89361 chronograph calibre has a 68-hour power reserve and draws its energy via the automatic IWC double-pawl winding system, which has four pawls to transmit energy to the pawl wheel. The watch is water-resistant to 3 bar and has a flyback function: pressing the push-button stops, resets and restarts the chronograph instantaneously.

TIMEPIECES FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Every year since 2006, IWC Schaffhausen has launched an exclusive special edition for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Part of the proceeds from the sale of these timepieces goes directly to the Laureus Foundation and contributes to the funding of its projects. Like its predecessors, the 11th in the series of IWC special editions is a symbol of hope for children and young people who are socially disadvantaged because they have mental or physical handicaps or live in difficult family cir cumstances.

“We want to give children and young people all over the world the best-possible start to self-determined lives,” explains Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen. And here, sport can play an important role. In many cases, people with some form of mental impairment are particularly likely to be ostracized or neglected by society. In Laureus sports projects, they are respected and appreciated and learn how to surmount barriers. I’m proud that we can make some form of contribution.”

DRAWING OF LAUGHING BOY ENGRAVED ON CASE BACK

One of the hallmarks of all Laureus special editions is an engraving on the case back. Traditionally, IWC Schaffhausen organizes an annual children’s drawing competition within all the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation projects worldwide.

The motto this year was “Time Well Spent”, and the jury singled out a drawing by 12-year-old Hou Ye from Shanghai. Despite a mental handicap and limited motor abilities, Hou Ye is a passionate participant in the Special Olympics East Asia. His winning picture shows himself on skis, laughing happily as he sets his own personal best time.

Ulysse Nardin – MARINE Grand Deck Tourbillon Gold Edition

Ulysse NardinMARINE Chronometer Grand Deck Tourbillon Rose Gold Limited Edition

Geneva - SIHH 2017

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For over 170 years Ulysse Nardin has been creating some of the most reliable Marine Chronometers in existence.

When it launched in 2016, the Marine Grand Deck Tourbillon, edited in 18 timepieces of white 18ct gold, received the rapt attention of the entire Haute Horlogerie industry. With its highly original time display that evokes the boom of a ship, it incorporates the cutting-edge technology, innovative mecha-nisms and fine craftsmanship that have made the Ulysse Nardin name.

For 2017, the Marine Grand Deck Tourbillon emerges from Le Locle, Switzerland in a warm color scheme: a limited edition of 18 pieces crafted in 5N rose gold.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In a proud nod to its maritime roots, the Marine Grand Deck Tourbillon marries meticulous craftsman-ship with technical avant-garde to explore the elements on the deck of a yacht. The craftsmanship, a Ulysse Nardin fundamental, is clearly displayed by the detail on the dial: finely crafted in pin oak, its unique marquetry is an incredibly lifelike depiction of a ship’s deck. The slightly darker wood of this edition is the color of chocolate, enhancing the rose gold of the case and lugs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The technical avant-garde so acclaimed by the international press and watchmaking professionals is evidenced by the patented time mechanism, a revolutionary new take inspired by a yacht’s boom, ropes and winches working together to hoist the sails. Using super-strong yet ultra-fine nanowires for the ropes, the mechanism employs a unique retrograde jumping hour device, driving the minute hand with 2 pulleys and 2 winches in gold. The jumping hour is visible in a double aperture under the mari-time symbols at 12 o’clock, in white for excellent visibility. Quick time correction is enabled with the pusher at 2 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The minutes are displayed in gold on a spinel arc across the center of the dial, with the golden boom drawn across to show exact time. The system, which is regulated by a double-barrel system, incorpo-rates the magnificence and extreme precision of a flying tourbillon, nested in a gold ring at 6 o’clock.

Employing the UN-630, a 60-second flying tourbillon with manual winding movement, the Marine Grand Deck Tourbillon has a generous 48h power reserve and is water resistant to 100 m. Ulysse Nardin is clearly in its element when venturing on the high seas, as evidenced by this latest creation.

CHRISTOPHE CLARET – X-TREM-1 – STING HD Black Tourbillon Edition

CHRISTOPHE CLARETX-TREM-1STING HD Black PVD-treated Titanium Flying Tourbillon Edition

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Feel the burn!

Five years after unveiling the X-TREM-1 timepiece, the watchmaker joins forces with StingHD in launching a daring mechanical “memento mori”, issued in an 8-piece limited edition. While technical strength remains a key asset of this timepiece combining an inclined flying tourbillon with a retrograde hours and minutes display system based on magnetic fields, its aesthetic has evolved.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
Endowed with a black PVD-treated titanium case, a skull on the tourbillon carriage, and a stingray leather or personalized strap, the new X-TREM-1 – StingHD asserts anti-conformism as a deliberate lifestyle choice. In an additional spirited touch, breathing on the sapphire crystal reveals a skull motif. This somber and radical watch is fatally attractive!

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Christophe Claret moves to the dark side of the force with this original variation of the X-TREM-1. Unveiled in 2012 and since interpreted through a variety of limited editions, this bestseller associates the creative horological strike power of Christophe Claret with the trendy signature of the American brand StingHD. A trendsetter specializing in the production of accessories and high-end jewelry in leather and other materials, StingHD has been epitomizing luxury and finely tailored workmanship out of New York for more than 50 years.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Mingling unbridled aesthetic power with avant-garde mechanics, the X-TREM-1 – StingHD plays the natural-born rebel. A sophisticated, excessive and extreme watch intended for bad boys, for movers and shakers, for rockers with a penchant for mechanical excellence and contemporary trends.

Ultimate technology

The X-TREM-1 has always been an anti-conformist by nature, starting with the innovative technical refinement of its retrograde hours and minutes display. The challenge was bold and some might say a little crazy: How could someone possibly think about introducing a magnetic field – the arch enemy of horological mechanisms – into the heart of a watch? The Christophe Claret team has done just that by creating a system where two small steel spheres – hollowed to make them lighter and encased within two sapphire tubes placed to the right and left of the caseband – are controlled by precision magnetic fields generated by two miniature magnets moved by cables.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The cables are incredibly flexible, made from hundreds of Dyneema nanofibers all contained within an ultra-high-strength polyethylene gel, capable of withstanding tensile forces of up to a kilo. The entire thread is thinner than a human hair (4 hundredths of a mm in diameter). The resistance of the thread has been tested in the Manufacture Claret on an accelerated-wear simulator corresponding to six years of operation. The spheres have no mechanical connection with the movement, with each one floating inside the two tubes and creating outstanding horological magic. This technology was developed with the School of Business and Engineering Vaud (HEIG-VD) in Yverdon-les-Bains, and a team headed by Professor Besson.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The entire construction and finishing of this timepiece meets the extreme demands systematically imposed by Christophe Claret. Ultra-light titanium was used for the three-dimensional curvex mainplate and the bridges. The flying tourbillon is fitted with double ceramic bearings to enhance its shock-resistance. It is inclined at a 30-degree angle in order to make it even more clearly visible to the wearer. The hand-wound watch draws its energy from two barrels enabling the use of a sophisticated display without disturbing the rate of the tourbillon, and thus the accuracy of the watch. The first barrel is reserved for the tourbillon, the second for the hours and minutes.

Deadly sophistication

While it has always sought to push the limits of technology, Christophe Claret has systematically sought to explore new aesthetic territory. The most immediately striking aspect of this new model is the entrancing – and almost terrifying – presence of the large inclined tourbillon, majestically placed at 6 o’clock and adorned with a black chrome-plated aluminum skull designed by StingHD. To create this hypnotically fascinating sight by incorporating the ruby-eyed skull within the tourbillon required the creation of a new tourbillon cage – a technical development accentuated by the colossal case of the X-TREM-1 – StingHD.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Like a high-powered machine perched on the wrist, the imposing titanium rectangle exudes a particularly potent appeal thanks to a remarkable black PVD treatment. The pure sapphire tubes previously framing the case of the X-TREM-1 and housing the steel hours and minutes spheres have been replaced by black PVD-treated stainless steel ring-bound tubes – thereby creating a resolutely technical look echoed by red lacquered numerals.

A rebel to its last breath

The X-TREM-1 – StingHD conveys its rebellious nature through every last detail. Never one to skimp on daring features, Christophe Claret has endowed the sapphire crystal with a special treatment that reveals a toothy skull when breathed upon. Another element that is bound to delight on-trend bad boys is the fact that the X-TREM-1 – StingHD radiates elegance right through to the manner in which it wraps itself around the wrist.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This model comes with two straps designed by StingHD: one in black stingray leather, and the other which can be personalized by its owner. In addition, the presentation box also includes a matching, handcrafted bracelet adorned with a black diamond encrusted skull with ruby eyes. This is an elegant way of reminding the wearer of this watch that time is ticking and that one must remain firmly attached to life. What if there were only a few hours separating the ephemeral from eternity? The answer will be in the hands of the eight lucky owners of the X-TREM-1 – StingHD.

Urban Jurgensen – Reference 1140 PT Blue Edition

Urban Jürgensen – Reference 1140 PT Blue Platinium Limited Edition

JÜRGENSEN 1745 COLLECTION
BASELWORLD 2017

An Urban Jürgensen timepiece has always been an example of uncompromising craftsmanship, a tradition the current owners of the company feel honour-bound to perpetuate. The Maison’s timepieces are not mass-produced in a nondescript industrial building but carefully honed in a traditional atelier. The creation of an Urban Jürgensen watch is not the product of expedience, but instead, the continued pursuit of excellence deploying the traditional highly specialised forms of craftsmanship reflecting the timeless traditions of the company.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

At Urban Jürgensen there is a belief that perfection is seldom the product of haste. Machinery may offer capacity, but hand craftsmanship provides individuality and lasting joy. While traditional materials ensure longevity, skilled hands are required to deftly manipulate tools to create horological objects of beauty.

Completely in accord with the extraordinary history and high level of watch making of Urban Jϋrgensen, we are pleased to present our new limited edition of 30 pieces - 1140 PT L Blue for 2017. At first glance, the 1140 PT L Blue exhibits a simplicity that conceals the complexity of its creation. The construction method and craftsmanship used are deliberately intended to appeal to connoisseurs of fine watchmaking. While some design elements and finishing are clear to see, others are virtually hidden from view. This new model complements the Jurgensen 1745 collection as a blend of our most precious examples of craftsmanship, Urban Jurgensen Hands, Guilloche and white gold appliques with an in-house P4 movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The 40mm classic case design used in this reference, has a round form, teardrop shaped lugs and stepped bezel combined with exquisitely finished dials and hands.

Urban Jürgensen hands, are very much hand-made. They comprise a significant number of components that are individually honed, assembled and finished. This naturally implies numerous hours of highly skilled workmanship and are a key feature of Urban Jürgensen timepieces. The white gold arms of Urban Jürgensen hands are cut from solid white gold and manually finished to ensure a perfect shape and fit. Numerous hours of diligent polishing with increasingly fine-grained diamond paper are followed by mirror polishing using secret types of polishing paste applied using a variety of wooden pegs specially shaped for the task. Its asymmetrical design, gently tapered towards the tip, ensures a unique elegance. This unwavering commitment to excellence is further exemplified at the very centre of the dial, in the precision-turned and mirror-polished solid gold hand pipes (also known as bushes), around which the arms are riveted to ensure a perfect fit.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Urban Jürgensen are considered masters of the art of the hand finished guilloche dials. In the new model, it can be appreciated in the vast attention to detail in the dial layout and pattern selections Grains d’orges and Guilloché Damier. Each dial requires up to 700 operations and takes two full days of hand work to complete on a guilloche lathe. After engine-turning, the dial is repeatedly brought to Rose heat and treated with acid to produce the unique warm colour by developing a fine layer of pure silver on the surface finally the dial is imbued with the proprietary Urban Jurgensen blue.

The White Gold Urban Jürgensen Arabic numeral appliques are inspired by the hand painted enamel and gran feu dials of our historic pocket watches – an inspiration that imparts almost impossible challenges in crafting them in solid gold. Transferring the long extremely thin lines painted in a “1” or a “2”, or the small “+” on a “4”, is a challenge very few master today. It is simply very difficult and delicate work.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Urban Jürgensen numerals cannot be stamped out. They are cut in several cutting processes from a solid gold sheet to arrive at the final shape, followed by an extremely delicate polishing process finished by hand to arrive at the fine “bombé” pillow shaped profile. And because they are so fine in the details, no two sets on two dials are identical.

Hand-wound, hand-fitted and hand-made: hands at Urban Jürgensen indeed not only indicate time but in 2017 continue to stir the same excitement, approval and wonder among watchmakers and connoisseurs alike as they have for over 240 years.

------------------------------------------------------
About Urban Jürgensen

Our story started in 1745 with the birth in Copenhagen of Jürgen Jürgensen, founder of the watchmaking dynasty that still bears his name. Jürgen’s son, Urban Jürgensen (1776 - 1830), quickly followed in his father’s footsteps. After completing his apprenticeship at such extraordinary watchmakers as Breguet in Paris and Arnold in England, Urban steered the Jürgensen brand to new heights. Urban’s two sons, Jules-Frederik and Louis Urban, then continued the family tradition. Jules studied in Switzerland and moved to Le Locle, while his brother Louis remained in charge of the factory in Copenhagen, giving the company roots in both countries that have been maintained ever since. The innovation and excellence of Jürgensen’s output exerted a tremendous influence on the watchmaking industry of Le Locle and, indeed, the entire Canton of Neuchatel, introducing the latest techniques from around the world. Of course, none of this happened by accident; rather, it has been the product of centuries of commitment and dedication to the arts.
