This is a comprehensive partnership for the Swiss watch brand: on the pitch, the fourth officials' boards are now shaped like a TAG Heuer Carrera watch. Referees have already started to wear the TAG Heuer Connected smart watch, which provides them with assistance via their own dedicated and exclusive application. The deal is completed by the TAG Heuer logo which is displayed on-screen during TV broadcasts, not to mention all the activities on-site with customers, and the famous Pressure Test competitions which have proved such a big hit with fans.

Today, TAG Heuer is incredibly proud to unveil the very first special edition Premier League watch. Naturally, a sports model — a 43 mm Aquaracer — has been chosen to bear the colours of the English league. At its heart beats the Calibre 5 mechanical movement. Made from steel, it boasts an attractive black ceramic bezel, specially designed for this football-themed watch. The 45-minute numerals for each period of half-time are lacquered white and the 15 minutes of extra time are lacquered red.

The anthracite grey dial with its sunray effect is particularly elegant. It features the new Premier League lion logo at 9 o'clock, stamped in white. The MatchTimer inscription in the centre is another nod to this watch's footballing pedigree. The baton indexes are coated in white SuperLuminova™ to improve visibility in the stadium during evening matches. The hour hands are rhodium-plated and the minute and seconds hands are red.

As a finishing touch, the date window positioned at 3 o'clock is equipped with a magnifier, another sports feature, which helps improve visibility. The case has a screw-on back with an exclusive engraving of the Premier League lion, and the exclusive inscription "Official TimeKeeper". The watch is complemented by an elegantly integrated steel link bracelet.

ARMIN STROM – MIRRORED FORCE Resonance FIRE Edition

ARMIN STROMMIRRORED FORCE Resonance FIRE Rose Gold Limited Edition NEW

Mirrored Force Resonance
ARMIN STROM Propels Resonance Firmly into the
21st Century with Watchmaking Breakthrough

Two oscillating bodies in close proximity influence each other and eventually synchronize; this is a phenomenon of physics known as resonance. ARMIN STROM introduces the Mirrored Force Resonance, a resonating dual regulator developed for maximum precision with its whole captivating mechanism on full display dial side.

The Concept of Resonance

Resonance is a sophisticated and demanding horological technique that has rarely been attempted, let alone mastered. In the pursuit of horological accuracy, precision, and rate stability resonance has generally involved utilizing two independent mainsprings, gear trains, escapements, and balances, each connected by a rack and pinion to allow fine tuning of the distance between them. Precise adjustment of the distance between the two regulators is necessary to incite resonance, which sees the two balances finding a concurrent rhythm in opposite directions so as to continuously average out errors for maximum accuracy.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

One body in motion relays its vibrations to its surroundings. When another body with a similar natural resonant frequency to the first receives these vibrations, it will absorb energy from the first and start vibrating at the same frequency in a sympathetic manner. The first body acts as the “exciter,” while the second acts as the “resonator.”

The phenomenon of synchronized motion in horology has fascinated watchmakers since the time of Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695). Huygens, inventor of the pendulum clock, was the first to discover the resonance of two separate pendulum clocks, which he logically surmised should keep slightly different time. When hung from a common beam, however, the pendulums of the adjacent clocks synchronized; subsequent researchers confirmed that the common wooden beam coupled the vibrations and created resonance. The two pendulums functioned as one in a synchronous manner. In the eighteenth century, Abraham-Louis Breguet demonstrated his mastery of the phenomenon with his double pendulum resonance clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

The advantages of resonance are threefold:

  • A stabilizing effect on timekeeping (advantageous to accuracy).
  • A conservation of energy (think of a professional cyclist riding in the shadow of another cyclist in a racing situation).
  • A reduction of negative effects on timekeeping accuracy due to outside perturbation such as shock to the balance staff, which in turn keeps the rate more stable and increases precision.
  • An outside shock that slows one of the balances down increases the speed of the other one by the same amount; both balances will strive to get back in resonance, thereby averaging and minimizing the effects of the outside influence as they find their rhythm.
Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

To provide an idea of how difficult the horological execution of this concept is, an exhaustive list of watchmakers that have successfully used resonance in an extremely limited number of timepieces includes Antide Janvier (1751-1855), Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), so few modern clock- and watchmakers that they can likely be counted on one hand.

Manufacturing

Unlike the majority of watch companies operating today, ARMIN STROM is a full-fledged manufacture with in-house manufacturing capability. The resonant Caliber ARF15 is a classically constructed manually wound movement that was conceived, manufactured, assembled, and regulated in-house. It beats at a 3.5 Hertz (25,200 vph) frequency, allowing the observer to really appreciate the patented, resonant regulators in action. The movement is resolutely modern, with a novel, yet impeccably executed finish providing a roomy and stable stage for the real show: the symmetrical twin display of seconds, which are bound by a single spring.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

The resonance clutch spring needed to realize the Mirrored Force Resonance’s twin display of seconds was so technical that the brand’s team, under the direction of technical director Claude Greisler, was left with no choice other than to create what it needed in house. Like Calibre ARF15, the resonance clutch spring comprises only a traditional horological material: steel. Greisler and his team spent fully two and a half years perfecting the shape and characteristics of the spring: calculating, optimizing, simulating, testing, and improving again and again until the spring had the optimal, unique form needed to connect ARMIN STROM’s two sets of oscillators, each comprising twin balance wheels and balance springs.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

Since the two connected oscillators make their revolutions in opposite directions, which is eminently visible on the dial side of the watch, one rotating clockwise and the other counterclockwise, the animated elements look much like they are performing a magic trick. If the 48-hour power reserve has been exhausted and the movement requires a fresh injection of energy through winding, the twin balance wheels need approximately 10 minutes to become synchronous. In case of any outside influence in the form of shock, it takes only a few minutes for the two balances to find their resonant rhythm once again.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                 BIG FOTO

This is because it is not the balance wheels that Armin Strom’s technical team has connected using the resonance clutch spring, but rather the balance spring studs, which receive the impulses.

The case band pusher at 2 o’clock resets the luminous twin seconds’ displays to zero, simultaneously resetting the twin balance wheels. The Mirrored Force Resonance is the most complicated timepiece that Armin Strom manufactures; it is not surprising that a patent has been registered on it.

Background

Claude Greisler’s idea behind the Mirrored Force Resonance was to create an innovative way of improving an old concept, one that is horology’s very reason for being: precision and accuracy. ARMIN STROM’s Mirrored Force Resonance is a new, better, and more interesting way of executing and displaying an old idea.

The raison d’être of the Mirrored Force Resonance is to display the interesting functionality of the resonant balances while improving the watch’s overall precision. The resonance clutch spring provides the watch with a fascinating and patented “animation” of the way it functions. This remains in line with the philosophy of ARMIN STROM as a brand: no nonsense, just good, proprietary mechanics presented in an impeccably finished and interesting way. The resonance clutch spring is exciting in another way, too: it visually proves this timepiece’s resonance.

A World Premier

The Mirrored Force Resonance is set to premier at London’s SalonQP, which takes place November 3-5, 2016. After that it will embark upon a world tour, starting with the Salon des Grandes Complications in Dubai with subsequent stops spanning the globe from west to east before returning to Switzerland.

BLANCPAIN – WOMEN Ladybird Gold Limited Edition

BLANCPAINWOMEN Ladybird Ultraplate Gold Limited Edition 2016

1956: the birth of a legend

The daringly avant-garde Ladybird by Blancpain was the world’s smallest round watch at the time of its birth 60 years ago. After the success of the model celebrating its anniversary, Blancpain is introducing a new limited edition that is at once elegant, timeless and modern.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                                BIG FOTO

The Manufacture Blancpain is paying homage to the Ladybird that is part of the history of women’s timepieces. Modern Ladybird watches are equipped with the automatic 6150 caliber measuring just 15.7 mm in diameter. This movement is still one of the smallest in the world. The brand had relaunched this anthem to femininity for Valentine’s Day 2016. On this occasion, a removable charm featuring a ruby heart with a diamond arrow adorned this 99- piece limited edition. A further limited edition was issued for the Baselworld World Watch and Jewellery Show.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                                BIG FOTO

This elegant and refined watch featuring a white gold case teamed with an alligator leather strap proved a great success and the 60 watches in the series sold out rapidly. To perpetuate the success story of this model, Blancpain is now offering a fresh interpretation of this anniversary watch, this time with a red gold case. This subtle color shift infuses the timepiece with a different aesthetic appeal to that of its predecessors.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                                BIG FOTO

Swept over by droplet-shaped hands, the shimmering dial is graced with luminous contrasts revealing a delicate multi- layered motif and lit up by the sparkle of eight diamonds, while the bezel is set with 32 of the same gemstones. The sapphire crystal case-back reveals its oscillating weight delicately adorned with a diamond, while the black calfskin strap lends a subtle touch of elegance to this exquisite timepiece.

A blend of boldness and ingenuity

The trade advertising of the time was a challenge to distributors: ′′Be the first importer on your market of the world’s smallest round watch!′′. The Ladybird was born in 1956 when the fashion was for jeweled watches in which the emphasis was on ornamental features and dainty dial sizes. Within this context, Blancpain’s unveiling the world’s smallest round movement, the R550 caliber, was a true masterstroke. Notwithstanding its 11.85 mm diameter, this movement had a more than 40-hour power reserve that was quite extraordinary for the period. For aesthetic reasons, its crown was re-located to the back of the watch.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...       BIG FOTO

As for the pivot placed above the escape wheel, it was slightly thinner than an average strand of hair, at just 0.07 mm. Success was instantaneous and it became the timepiece of choice to adorn the wrists of elegant women. As time went by, it adopted a variety of styles intended to meet the most demanding feminine tastes, ranging from entirely gem-set models to more avant-garde versions with interchangeable straps. Year after year, the Ladybird successively appeared in new guises while retaining its ever youthful charm.
Betty Fiechter, a pioneering female leader

Frédéric-Emile Blancpain, a descendant of Jules-Emile, lead the family business from 1889 until 1932. During his years heading Blancpain, he worked alongside a talented young woman, Betty Fiechter, who began her work there at the age of 16 and completed her training with him. Her natural boldness, devotion and intelligence became valuable assets to the business. Frédéric-Emile selected her to manage production and sales. She brought to Blancpain a modern and perceptive outlook that proved its worth to Blancpain and which would lead her to become a major force in its history several years later.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                                BIG FOTO

When Frédéric-Emile passed away, she acquired the business under the name "Rayville S.A., successeur de Blancpain” and in 1939 became the first woman owner and director of a watch Manufacture. She devoted herself single-mindedly to growing the business and notably brought on board her nephew, Jean-Jacques Fiechter, who demonstrated enormous creativity in modernizing the business. Beginning in 1952, Betty and Jean-Jacques Fiechter developed a range of calibers for jewelry models which opened new avenues and possibilities for jeweled watches and established Blancpain’s international reputation in that domain. Betty Fiechter was a pioneering woman who laid a set of firm foundations for the House of Blancpain.

Ateliers deMonaco – Poincon de Geneve – Saphir

Ateliers deMonacoPoinçon de GenèveSAPHIR Gold 40mm Limited Edition NEW

Ateliers deMonaco Introduces New Timepieces
to the Poinçon de Genève Collection

Ateliers deMonaco has obtained the Poinçon de Genève and entered the inner circle of the very few watchmaking houses that carry this certification. In order to express its deep-feel attachment to the watchmaking tradition, Ateliers deMonaco added a new model, limited to 18 pieces, to its Poinçon de Genève collection; available in 18K white and rose gold. With its beautiful sapphire dial, this timepiece is the perfect blend of aesthetic appeal and technical refinement.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

A watch bearing the Poinçon de Genève is not only an instrument to measure time; it is a work of art. To obtain this recognition, each watch component must be made with the utmost care and be finely decorated.  The hallmark is a symbol of exceptional aesthetic quality and guarantees that the purchased product is flawless and unique. This timepiece with its pure and dynamic lines features a beautiful sapphire dial, which enables to see the perlage decoration on the movement. Its lozenge indexes and its hand applied roman indexes accentuate its elegance.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

To power this timepiece, the watchmakers of Ateliers deMonaco have equipped it with the in-house and patented dMc-708 calibre featuring a 38-hour power reserve and driving central hour, minute and second hands. The ultra-thin characteristics of this calibre enabled the brand to encase it within a 9,2mm case. The sapphire crystal case back enables to admire the hand-decorated bridges adorned with a delicate Côtes de Genève finishing. To acquire the Poinçon de Genève, each movement from this limited edition, had to be assembled, adjusted and encased in our manufacture in the Canton of Geneva. In addition to this certification, this new timepiece also includes our patented “Freebeat” adjustment system. In a conventional regulation system, pins on both side of the hairspring are used to regulate how much it can wind and unwind hence regulating the speed of the balance wheel. By allowing the hairspring to bounce against these pins, in combination to gravity forces, the unfortunate side effect of these collisions is that it interferes with the precision of the movement itself.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

Our newly patented “Freebeat” regulation system allows us to regulate the length of the hairspring with an adjustable crémaillère (straight bar with teeth on one edge, allowing it to be fixated at different length) obsoleting the need for the pins and thus avoiding the interference.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

Finally, the watch is presented with a black or a brown hand-stitched alligator leather strap with either 18K white or rose gold ardillon buckle. Every watch stamped with the Poinçon de Genève comes with a certificate of origin, which includes a unique authentication key and QR code delivered by Timelab.

These enable the purchaser to check the authenticity of the document and of the watch.

In honour of the accomplishments of aviation’s pioneers, Longines has drawn inspiration from its rich history to present a very special piece: The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935. At the start of the 20th century, the watch brand associated its name with pilots who made history through their extraordinary achievements. Chief among them was Charles Lindbergh, the first pilot to cross the Atlantic solo, an achievement celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2017. Precision and sturdiness were the key words for the design of the “Type A-7” watches, which needed to meet a very precise criteria in order to merit this distinction, the American army gave to these chronographs ordered from Longines in 1935.

The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 sets itself apart with its dial angled at 40° to the right, displaying 12 large honey-coloured Arabic numerals. These allow perfect legibility and contrast with the polished white lacquer dial. Lastly, a “train track” chapter ring ensures the minutes can be easily read and the timepiece’s case is elegantly equipped with a fluted crown. Developed for the watch to be worn on the inside of the wrist, the particular orientation of the dial allows pilots to read the indices without having to release the plane's control yoke, while the crown was designed to be easily manipulated, even while wearing gloves.

A bold piece combining unparalleled design with the strict demands of performance and precision fundamental to the world of aviation, the Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 1935 will not go unnoticed. The 41 mm stainless steel case houses a self-winding L788.2 calibre, a column wheel movement exclusively developed for Longines which enables control of the different chronograph functions (power, stop, and reset) by simply pressing the single push-piece inserted into the fluted crown. Elegant “pear skeleton” hands in blued steel and honeyed varnish complete the remarkable aesthetic of this piece. A brown alligator strap harmoniously enhances the overall piece.
