IWC Brand Ambassador Pierfrancesco Favino and television host and actress Alessia Marcuzzi were present to cut the ribbon in the exclusive setting of the fashion district.

The Swiss luxury watch manufacturer used the occasion to introduce the exclusive Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition “Boutique Milano” (Ref. IW371215), which is limited to 100 pieces. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by an exclusive gala dinner prepared by the Michelin-starred chef Andrea Berton.

The Swiss Maison celebrated the opening of its Milan boutique in the presence of some of the most important representatives of the Italian business world with an exclusive gala dinner at Ristorante Berton, one of the best-known locations in Porta Nuova, surrounded by the attractive setting of the new Milan skyline. “We are honoured to officially inaugurate the Milan boutique. Milan is a city that reflects luxury par excellence, where everything is fast and dynamic, but that still appreciates the marking of time and the elegance of wristwatches. For centuries, watchmakers had been fascinated by the prospect of winding a watch’s mainspring automatically. Girard-Perregaux produced a revolutionary solution in 1957 called « Gyromatic », it remains a milestone in the development of the self-winding wristwatch.

One of  the major challenges associated with  automatic winding  is  how to turn the circular to-and-fro movement of the movement’s  oscillating  mass,  or rotor, into the one-way circular motion that can actually wind the mainspring. For this purpose, horological engineers usually resort to a device called a motion reverser, featuring ratcheted wheels. However, the stronger the pawls and teeth, the larger they are, leading to an increase in idle travel. The remedy lies in using smaller, hence more fragile components. The only solution here is a never quite satisfactory compromise.

The «Gyromatic» system substitutes roller-equipped unidirectional clutches for the ratchet wheels. The resulting construction is simple, reliable and efficient. What’s more, its compactness opens the way for slim, sleek and stylish designs. The «Gyromatic» has since demonstrated its excellence in thousands of Girard-Perregaux timepieces including the top-of-the-line «Gyromatic HF (for high frequency), the selfwinding watch equivalent of the «Formula 1» race car. This development marked its ultimate major contribution to mechanical watch design. Along with others, it is attested by the patents granted to the company over the years.

In 1966, the Neuchâtel Observatory’s prestigious Centenary Prize acknowledged Girard-Perregaux’s superior ability. The 44 mm case of the 2016 Graham Chronofighter pieces presents a dynamic cockpit of Swiss precision timekeeping. Big is beautiful here without a shadow of doubt. The chronograph functionality consists of two easily legible counters, one to track seconds and the other to count 30-minute periods. CVSTOS pays tribute to the Brazilian nation by introducing the CHRONO II Brazil directly inspired by the Brazilian national symbols an colors: yellow representing gold and the wealth of Brazil, green its natural beauty and hope, dark blue symbolising the night sky and rivers of the country, and finally, white standing for peace.

The layered open dial, which allows the elegant movement to be seen while still offering optimal readability, is surrounded by a yellow flange featuring a tachymeter scale. The chronograph counters have applied green rims and are accentuated by yellow markers.

However, the maximum expression of the dedication of this model to Brazil is shown at 9 o’clock where the national Brazilian crest is incorporated into the dial. The sky Orb, also present in the Brazilian Flag, contains the motto “Ordem & Progresso” which, when translated, reads “Order and Progress” and 27 stars, each representing a Brazilian Federal State.

The blackened baton indexes are punctuated with green dots and filled with yellow Super Luminova, bringing extra clarity to the dial. The blackened hands, also with yellow Super Luminova, are punctuated with vivid green endings on the counter hands and the chronograph central hand with dark blue.

The Power Reserve Indicator is accented with the Brazilian national colors in the shape of a gauge.


The CHRONO II movement is a construction of a robust and high performance base to which it is added an additional module offering the functions of Hour and Minute, Chronograph, Power Reserve Indicator and Date. The entire movement is sculpted according to CVSTOS technical demands: bridges, components and date disc are laser cut removing weight from the movement and added a decorative black PVD coating. The movement is placed inside a titanium circle, which acts as a protective cage, turning the ensemble of the more than 150 parts that compose the mechanism into a single robust block.

The movement is powered by an oscillating mass, seen through the open case back, protected by a sapphire glass, encompassing a duo-metal construction of Tungsten 88 & Titanium.

Following the principle of a pendulum, a heavier external weight concentrated in the blade and a much lighter set of spokes made of titanium provide, with a small twitch of the wrist,  an energy supply to the movement with greater ease. This structure allows not only for the mass to be thinner and lighter but considerably smaller offering a clearer view of the decorated chronograph movement’s back.

The 53.7mm x 41mm barrel shaped case, chosen for its comfort and practicality, has its weight lifted by shearing essential milligrams from the bezel resulting in a dynamic shape with structured inserts. The rugged design of the case is complemented with the titanium serrated pushers which offer a better grip and handling of the Start/Stop and Reset functions of the chronograph.
