Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB. A new collaboration. A meeting of minds in the world of classic watchmaking. A dash of Antide Janvier; a touch of 19th century marine chronometry.

A concentrate of fine watchmaking references brought together in one affordable design: CHF 3,600, with two variations in a limited series of 178 pieces each.

This is not a watch, it is a meeting place. A centre of gravity. Louis Erard production, Massena LAB co-production, against a backdrop of classic chronometry with the Régulateur Louis Erard as the training ground for this new collaboration, adding to an already impressive list of names: Alain Silberstein, Vianney Halter, Atelier OÏ, Seconde/Seconde/, Eric Giroud
.

The result, Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB, comes in two variations. The only defining element between the two is the dial: on one, the lower plate is plated in 2N gold, while the other is rhodium-plated.

Both models come in a limited edition of 178 pieces—a symbolic number meaning "together we are stronger", a principle dear to Louis Erard’s work—and are available at the same price: CHF 3,600.

This new achievement is the result of dedicated energy. It stems from a meeting between Manuel Emch, CEO and artistic director of Louis Erard, and William Massena, founder of Massena LAB, former CEO of Antiquorum, and known collector.

Launched in 2018, Massena LAB is an independent platform centred around watchmaking collaborations and experimentation.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is a little-used approach in the field of watchmaking, closer to the profession of an independent producer in the film industry, for example. And that is what this is all about: production or, more precisely, co-production.

The Régulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB was designed to put on a show. Louis Erard provided the setting, set the stage and directed the theatre of operations, always with the same goal: to offer fine watchmaking quality at an affordable price.

Massena LAB wrote the dialogue between a contemporary watch and a 19th century marine chronometer with its own guiding principle, as William Massena explains: “A successful collaboration is one that makes sense. Louis Erard allowed me to mix codes, to cite the classicism of a master watchmaker like Antide Janvier, and to democratise a style that’s usually reserved for wealthy collectors”.

The meeting place is the regulator: a mechanical complication linked to the history of chronometry and to Louis Erard’s history. The reference to the marine chronometer results in an even more advanced search for readability than usual. The result is an unusually sophisticated dial for a watch in this price category.

The dial is made up of two levels. The two flanges on the hour and seconds counters (at 12 and 6 o'clock) are rhodium-plated with circular satin finish, with centres in silver-plated opaline. The large central minute hand points towards the outer rhodium-plated flange with circular satin finish.

The lower plate is rhodium- or gold-plated, with a grained finish to further increase the contrast with the counters and enhance the readability of the blued steel leaf hands. The polished steel case is fitted with a signature Massena LAB crown.

Singer – Track 1 Flytrack Chronograph “BARISTA” Edition

Singer ReimaginedTrack 1 - Flytrack Chronograph “BARISTA” Edition 2022

 REIMAGINING WATCHMAKING

Marco Borraccino, co-founder and creative director of Singer Reimagined is both an Italian and a coffee aficionado. His love for espresso led him to imagine the BARISTA scale allowing easy measurement of the extraction time for your favourite coffee style prepared with your espresso machine.

Espresso brewing is an art. Precision is the key. The Singer Flytrack “Barista” represents the meeting point of two universes: The Art of Watchmaking and The Art of Espresso.

THE ART OF
WATCHMAKING AND THE
ART OF ESPRESSO

Singer Reimagined is an award-winning high watchmaking company, based in Geneva. It is part of Singer Group, the Californian-based luxury brand that has become globally renowned for its bespoke restorations of the Porsche 911.

Singer is guided by the philosophy Everything is Important.

The brand has become synonymous with the concept of Reimagining – bringing together iconic design with twenty-first-century engineering and material science.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTOSinger Reimagined creates remarkable watches for a discerning global clientele. We are guided by an approach that encompasses:

– a passionate focus on iconic design and definitive mechanical watches.
– Execution with superlative attention to detail, following Singer’s mantra Everything is Important.
– Modern engineering and materials combined with beautifully presented horological functions
– A deep connection with Californian car-culture and the Swiss watch-making world.

Singer represents a philosophy, simply expressed as a Relentless Pursuit of Excellence.

 The first act

This pursuit inspired us to pioneer the revolution in the chronographs field by launching the groundbreaking Track1 timepiece in 2017. Powered by the innovative Agengraphe movement, Singer Track 1 represents the Chronograph Reimagined.

  •  The Chronograph Award at the prestigious Grand Prix de la Haute Horlogerie de Genève – GPHG – in 2018

The second act

In 2020, the same philosophy led us to develop a cutting-edge, zero-reset function with our collection of minimalist Flytrack models. Today we are thrilled to unveil a further exclusive Flytrack edition, designed to celebrate the introduction of our brand to the Italian market, in collaboration with Orologeria Concato in Verona.

  •  It is a celebration of the practicality of a chronograph combined with a specific calibrated scale.

The art of watchmaking and the art of espresso

Marco Borraccino, co-founder and creative director of Singer Reimagined is both an Italian and a coffee aficionado. His love for espresso led him to imagine the BARISTA scale allowing easy measurement of the extraction time for your favourite coffee style prepared with your espresso machine.

Espresso brewing is an art. Precision is the key. The Singer Flytrack “Barista” represents the meeting point of two universes: The Art of Watchmaking and The Art of Espresso.

Many factors are involved in the extraction of the perfect single espresso shot, beginning with 6 to 8 grams of your favorite, freshly ground arabica, pressed with an espresso tamper and the correct amount of force. Extracting the perfect 30 ml espresso shot then takes between 25 to 30 seconds using hot water between 90 and 95 °C at a pressure of 9ATM.

No room for improvisation!

The longer the extraction time shown on the scale, the larger (and more diluted ) your coffee style. Just be aware that Italians would complain to anything longer than an Espresso!

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

When brewing an espresso shot, the first 5 to 7 seconds – the orange area on the dial scale – correspond to the infusion of hot water into ground coffee. Nothing happens visually yet. The magic is happening inside the filter. Next, the first drops of a rich, black liquid are seen, followed by a dense foam spilling. Depending on the amount of time you keep your coffee dripping into the cup, taste, strength, density, acidity and fragrances will evolve. Ristretto, Espresso, Lungo or Americano?

There are only guidelines in coffee brewing, no hard and fast rules. What really matters is how each one enjoys its coffee the most!

The Singer Flytrack Barista combines the love of this espresso ritual, performed countless times every day around the world, with the engineering of an exclusive timepiece.

THE BARISTA

A watch that celebrates elements of Italian culture and lifestyle requires an appropriate visual style.

The newly introduced stainless-steel case is hand-finished with circular brushing and polished edges. The dial is matte brown, velvet-touch with the unique one-minute coffee brewing scale traced in contrast using a subtle beige colour. A circular brushed golden rehaut, with a contrasting 60-second indication in black, underlines the refinement of this timepiece.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The peripheral, rotating hour disc is presented in black matte ceramic and features 12 luminescent markings. The luminescent orange hour pointer is placed at 6 o’clock, in Singer tradition.

A dark brown smooth calf strap, with brown stitching, is completed with a matching stainless-steel folding buckle. The Barista edition extends the Flytrack collection that began with the Tachymeter, Pulsometer and Telemeter variants.

Each design is distinctive and purpose-oriented but shares the same signature Flytrack function.

Singer Flytrack is a “time only” watch, featuring our signature peripheral hours disc indication combined with central minutes and central swiping seconds.

CHRONOGRAPH ON DEMAND

Singer Flytrack Barista Edition has been conceived to provide the most instantaneous and instinctive way of measuring short elapsed times. We teamed up again with the Agenhor team in Geneva, to conceive this complication that allows to measure endlessly, sequential events.

Singer Flytrack is a “time only” watch, featuring our signature peripheral hours disc indication combined with central minutes and central swiping seconds. The main twist, not visible at first sight, is easily accessible through the push-button at 2 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A single touch of the pusher instantly reset to zero the central sweeping second-hand. Releasing the pusher sets the second hand in motion, allowing instant measurement of short intervals of time (60 seconds). An operation that can be repeated as many times as needed, without interfering with the timekeeping of your watch.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO    The Flytrack mechanism is also designed to be used as a hacking seconds device to synchronize your watch with an accurate timekeeping source. By keeping the push-button down, the seconds hand will stay still, allowing you to release it precisely at the correct moment.

This latest timepiece from Singer represents our Relentless Pursuit of Excellence, innovating and improving by going beyond conventions.

The most minimalistic iteration on the chronograph theme

THE MOVEMENT

Developed in collaboration with Agenhor, the Singer Flytrack movement, AG6364, has noble descendants, sharing its architecture with the prestigious, award-winning, AgenGraphe®..

A dedicated development, focused on efficiency and performance, drove our technical team and watchmakers to imagine innovative solutions to deliver a playful yet useful complication aiming to be the most minimalistic iteration on the chronograph theme.

components, manual winding, two barrels providing 55h of power reserve, 49 jewels and a unique flyback & zero-reset function.

The clutch, provided with triangular teeth, features a ratio of one tooth to three, to limit jumping forward or backward, allowing to reduce errors in case of shock. In the worstcase, the seconds hand can jump of maximum 1 degree.

A large lever permanently keeps the system engaged, allowing the seconds hand swiping motion.

When the user presses the reset button, the lever releases the clutch which disengages.

The lever also acts as a reset hammer by pressing on a heart cam in the centre.

When the user releases the button, the lever returns to its initial position and r e-engages the system to restart the seconds hand motion instantly.
