AUDEMARS PIGUET RELEASES A NEW ROYAL OAK PERPETUAL CALENDAR CRAFTED IN TITANIUM

Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet is pleased to unveil a new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar model, crafted in Grade 5 titanium. The new dial design pairs a blue “Grande Tapisserie” pattern with contrasting grey subdials, bestowing the model with a contemporary two-tone aesthetic.

This timepiece will be launched in September in exclusivity for the United States, with limited availability in other countries as of October.

CUTTING-EDGE AND REFINED AESTHETIC

The bracelet and case of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar are fully crafted in Grade 5 titanium – a tribute to the Manufacture’s uncompromising blend of high technology and ancestral craftsmanship. Often used for aerospace, motorsport and medical applications, this alloy is strong, lightweight, non-magnetic and highly resistant to corrosion.

Upholding fine watchmaking tradition, the ultra-light case and bracelet have been hand-finished with the Manufacture’s trademark alternation of satin-brushing and polished surfaces. Measuring 9.5 mm in thickness, this complicated timepiece also presents a slender profile.

The beauty of the titanium case and bracelet reside as well in their manufacturing complexity. Difficult to machine, this hard material causes milling tools to wear out more readily. Moreover, the milling speeds must be reduced to avoid any adverse heat damage to the alloy, thereby taking much longer to process than components formed of steel or gold.

The titanium case is enhanced with a new two-tone dial uniting a blue “Grande Tapisserie” pattern with smooth grey subdials matching with the hue of the case and bracelet for an elegant contrast and a unique play of light.

A SOPHISTICATED COMPLICATION

This limited perpetual calendar edition is powered by the selfwinding Calibre 5134, which automatically takes into account the number of days in the month and correctly displays the prevailing date even in leap years.

Assuming the watch is kept fully wound, the date will not require manual correction until 2100, at which point it will require adjustment in order to stay in line with the Gregorian calendar.*

The watch’s sapphire caseback reveals the refined decorations adorning the movement, which include “Côtes de Genève,” circular graining, circular satin and polished chamfers. The 22-carat gold openworked oscillating weight is further embellished with “Clous de Paris.”

Born in Le Brassus, raised around the world.

* The Gregorian calendar omits three leap years every 400 years to remain in line with solar time. This is achieved by omitting February 29 in the century years which number can be divided by 100, but not by 400. As a result, 2100 will not be a leap year and perpetual calendar mechanisms will have to be moved forward by one day.

 SCAFOGRAF 300 MCMLIX EDITION BOASTS A NEW BLUE LOOK

After last year’s success with the "MCMLIX" celebration edition, the SCAFOGRAF 300 collection is set to be enriched even further courtesy of a new version boasting a blue colour scheme.

===== Historic SCAFOGRAF 200 CALENDRIER Ref. 11706 (1962) ======

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, in the fury of the economic boom, Swiss watchmaking made enormous strides in the field of technical horlogerie. Eberhard & Co. was one of the main players in this golden age, asserting its prime position through its skill in developing timepieces that would leave their mark for years to come.

Eberhard & Co. created the first SCAFOGRAF in 1959, with the aim of meeting the growing demand for diving watches.  This model SCAFOGRAF became one of the La Chaux-de-Fonds Maison’s greatest successes, firmly establishing itself amongst the most coveted of timepieces for diving enthusiasts

Launched in 1959 to meet increasing demand for reliable diving watches, the SCAFOGRAF collection has been one of the biggest success stories of the La Chaux-de-Fonds workshop. The technical characteristics of the watches made them one of the most coveted instruments for diving enthusiasts.

===== Historic SCAFOGRAF 500 Ref. 26022 - 73 (1969) ======

After the launch of the first two models (water resistant down to 100 and 200 metres respectively), the SCAFOGRAF 300 version and its evolutions followed, managing to create a timepiece able to withstand a depth of 1000 metres.

In 2016, driven forward by its desire for constant research and innovation, Eberhard & co. designed a re-issue of the SCAFOGRAF 300, a modern re-elaboration which, that very year, went on to win the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, the most coveted prize in fine watchmaking.

And so today … the SCAFOGRAF 300 "MCMLIX" edition, a diving watch, with the name itself, through the transcription in Roman numerals, evoking the year of its original launch, and boasting a galbe dial in blue, Eberhard & Co.’s signature colour, with matt finish and indexes and hands featuring a ‘vintage’ luminescence. The self-winding mechanical movement is housed within a 43 mm diameter steel case, with convex sapphire crystal and automatic helium escape valve at 9 o’clock.

The unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel, also in blue, has ‘vintage’ luminescence on the first quarter of the minute scale.

The screw back is decorated with a starfish, the emblem of the collection. The water-repellent leather strap enhances the casual-chic look of the watch and features blue stitching, similarly evoking the rich blue tone of the dial.
