GIRARD-PERREGAUX – 1966 – “Earth to Sky Edition” Black

GIRARD-PERREGAUX1966 – “Earth to Sky Edition” Black Steel 40 mm Automatic

Earth to Sky Edition

A contemporary and innovative revelation of a brand classic, reinvented for a 149 million-kilometre journey from earth to sky. This odyssey inspired its 149 limited-edition number.

A black DLC treatment for the case and a rubber-patterned alligator leather strap propel this timeless model into a whole new dimension. Beating at its heart beneath the metallised crystal is Manufacture Calibre GP03300.

Blue as the earth. Black as the cosmos. In 2019, Girard-Perregaux is beginning a symbolic dialogue with the universe, which takes a chromatic turn with the 1966 "Earth to Sky Edition". Exposed to the solar wind, the characteristics of this fine and elegant classic remain unchanged. But thanks to a play of blue and black shades, its nature glides towards an astronomical dimension.

Atmospheric colours

The exosphere is the last layer of the Earth's atmosphere. Its blackness means it virtually merges into interplanetary space. Like a border with the void, black largely dominates this revisited classic. Its DLC-treated beadblasted steel case, its alligator leather strap and its date disc are dark as night. And in the heart of the night, the light glows through.

Water represents 70% of the Earth's surface and is reflected in the atmosphere. The blue on its delicately curved dial is therefore a tribute to the thin film that has earned our planet its nickname.

Almost translucent, it echoes Jean-François Bautte's stunning creations in blue Geneva enamel. Finally, the topstitching on the alligator leather strap accentuates this terrestrial ballet.

Patience in the azure

A revisited pillar of the Girard-Perregaux collections, the 1966 "Earth to Sky Edition" fits almost literally into the theme of the Salon. Between the colour of the Earth and that of the Sky, the dialogue between blue and black sends these 149 timepieces into a new orbit.

Aesthete of the invisible

In keeping with its longstanding tradition, Manufacture Girard-Perregaux has equipped this model with a tried and tested mechanical movement, Calibre GP3300 calibre, whose ultimate refinement reveals no less than five different finishes.

The plate and bridges are meticulously stretched, bevelled, engraved, circular-grained and adorned with Côtes de Genève. The blued steel screws and gilded engravers are revealed through its sapphire crystal back.

COBARION bezel and Dura Soft Fluoro Rubber Band
Shock-resistant full-metal design with Bluetooth® GPS radio-controlled solar-powered timekeeping

The MRG-G2000RJ-2A has a titanium case with a Cobarion bezel and Dura Soft Fluoro Rubber Band. The watch is designed in the image of the Jyuryoku Maru, an original traditional Japanese sword created exclusively for G-Shock and created with an MR-G motif.

Each bezel is carved individually from a solid block of metal. The deep violet Arc Ion Plating (AIP) on the bezel is harder than a diamond-like carbon (DLC) treatment and gives the metal a traditional Japanese cassius purple finish.

MR-G original Japanese sword JYURYOKU MARU

A sword-like letter opener created by swordsmith Teruhira Kamiyama and engraved with his name is included in the box set and includes a certificate of authenticity from the All Japan Swordsmith Association. The characters for “Jyuryoku” (meaning “gravity”) are hand engraved on the case back by Teruhira Kamiyama using the same method as names engraved into the blades of swords.

The latest model showcases the MR-G line’s signature features to give it a tough, yet sleek design that can elevate any winter look. It has an all- titanium case, back cover and clasp which have undergone a deep-hardening treatment to make it five times harder than regular titanium. It also has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an inner coating, which enhances its overall clarity and readability.

 Tradition and innovation, one-of-a-kind dignity.

The MRGG200RJ-2A bezel is created from Murasaki-gane metal and COBARION®, premium materials that make the bezel two or three times stronger than stainless steel. The deep violet Arc Ion Plating (AIP) also gives the metal a mirror-like, purple finish to complete its sleek style. In addition, the new watch offers G-SHOCK’s three-way time sync for accurate time keeping.

This is made possible through Bluetooth® connectivity, GPS satellite signal reception and Multi-Band 6 technology, which are signature technical capabilities within G-SHOCK’s premium models. The watch also features Tough Solar technology that provides self-charging capabilities.

Special specifications that embody the skill
of artisans who created these watches.

The symbol of strength. Case back

The characters Jyuryoku are hand engraved on the back covers of the watches by swordsmith Teruhira Kamiyama (who also had a role in crafting the JYURYOKU MARU) using the same technique as that employed for engraving names into the blades of Japanese swords. Jyuryoku means "gravity", which is the meaning of the "G" in both G-SHOCK and MR-G.

About G-SHOCK
CASIO’s shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch is synonymous with toughness, born from the developer Mr. Ibe’s dream of ‘creating a watch that never breaks’. Over 200 handmade samples were created and tested to destruction until finally in 1983 the first, now iconic G-SHOCK hit the streets of Japan and began to establish itself as ‘the toughest watch of all time’. Each watch encompasses the 7 elements; electric shock resistance, gravity resistance, low temperature resistance, vibration resistance, water resistance, shock resistance and toughness. The watch is packed with Casio innovations and technologies to prevent it from suffering direct shock; this includes internal components protected with urethane and suspended timekeeping modules inside the watch structure. Since its launch, G-SHOCK has continued to evolve, continuing to support on Mr. Ibe’s mantra “never, never give up”.
