Overseas, the collection embodying two cherished Vacheron Constantin themes – travel and openness to the world – welcomes its first ever model powered by a self-winding tourbillon movement. Presented with a stainless steel case, this watch setting a crowning touch to the collection features sleek aesthetics and an interchangeable bracelet/straps concept endowing it with a variety of styles.

Through the dynamic and harmonious lines of its stainless steel case, its characteristic six-sided bezel as well as its emblematic blue dial, the Overseas dial combines power with elegance, and distinction with wide new horizons. By enriching the collection with its first self-winding tourbillon movement, Vacheron Constantin creates a link between the escapist message inherent in the Overseas philosophy and the Geneva manufacturer’s deep-seated attachment to sophisticated horological complications.

Calibre 2160

In addition to the elegance of an openworked carriage shaped like the Manufacture’s Maltese Cross emblem, the ultra-thin 188-part Calibre 2160 – first presented in 2018 and measuring just 5.65 mm thick – opts for a 22K gold peripheral rotor.

This choice ensures a clear view of the mechanism beating at the stately frequency of 2.5 Hz, visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback. It also reveals the exceptional level of traditional finishing. The bar of the tourbillon carriage is entirely hand-bevelled, a task requiring around 12 hours for this component alone.

The new Overseas Tourbillon features central hours and minutes, a tourbillon with seconds indication at 6 o’clock, displayed on a blue-lacquered sunburst satin-finished dial enlivened by hands and hour-markers enhanced with Super-LumiNova®.

In 2016, driven by its innovative spirit, Hublot began to democratise and revolutionise sapphire, a totally transparent and ultra-resistant material that is ultra-complex to machine. In 2017, the watchmaker pushed the limits even further: the master of the Art of Fusion accomplished the feat of creating large coloured sapphires, despite the complexity, unpredictability, instability and lack of homogeneity in the fusion and crystallisation of sapphire.

This innovation and mastery are backed both by significant investments, which have facilitated the industrialisation of sapphire, and by the work of the internal R&D team, which is continuously exploring how to create new colours of sapphire.

Pushing back the boundaries of engineering and chemistry, Hublot is today creating large, perfectly uniform, transparent and coloured sapphires. A material that dresses the Big Bang Unico, the Spirit of Big Bang and even the MP-05 LaFerrari in transparency. Watches whose external parts have become invisible and that reveal all of their architecture and movement.

HERE COMES THE SUN

After transparent, smoked black, red and blue, Hublot is inviting a new primary colour into its colour chart: yellow. To give sapphire its solar hue, Hublot fused copper (Cu) with aluminium oxide (Al2O3).

A coloured sapphire that conserves all of its initial properties as the most scratch-resistant and transparent material, one of the hardest that exists. A colour that is once again innovative since it is the first time in the history of watchmaking that sapphire has been coloured yellow.

INNOVATION KNOWS NO LIMITS AT HUBLOT

A watch that is as hard and scratch-resistant as diamond (9 on the Mohs scale, versus 10 for diamond) and as light as titanium, 107 grams on the wrist. Absolute transparency dressed by the sparkle of a solar yellow that extends all the way to its natural rubber bracelet lined with the colour yellow.

Released in only 100 pieces, the Spirit of Big Bang Yellow Sapphire houses a self-winding skeleton chronograph movement, entirely “Hublotised” in its architecture and its finishing, from the legendary Zenith El Primero calibre.
