The winner of the “Best of Show” category at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como received a unique hand-engraved Lange 1 Time Zone with the special designation “Como Edition”.

A Ferrari 335 Sport from 1958 received the prestigious title “Best of Show” at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The owner, Andreas Mohringer from Austria, received a horological rarity as a prize: a “Como Edition” of the model Lange 1 Time Zone made from white gold and specially created for this occasion.

To pay homage to the venue of the competition, on the rotating city ring of this special edition, Central European Time is displayed using Como, the location of the competition, instead of Berlin as it is in the classic edition.

The New Unicum watch by U-Boat, 

one of a kind and tough look.

The Unicum is one of the best expression of the highly successful series of U-42 watches designed by Italo Fontana and displays all the distinctive qualities expected from the brand U-BOAT starting from the case in lightweight titanium with an IP black coating and completely handcrafted and treated by Italian artisans in order to make each watch completely original and one of a kind.

In occasion of Baselworld 2018, Italo Fontana presented the updated version of the Unicum, increasing the bold personality of the model and its Steampunkesque features. In the brass dial, which have been naturally aged, Italo chose to apply a skull in relief making the appearence of the watch even stronger and rebel along with the distressed and highly unique vintage look.

The case, with a diameter measuring 50mm, excluding lugs and the huge crown, makes a very bold visual statement and the bezel, rotating in either direction and lockable through a patented mechanism have been scratched on purpose, treated with an IP black coating and special acids, and meticulously hand finished adhering to the finest artisan traditional techniques.

All these treatments are in order to create a one of a kind masterpiece, a watch completely coming from the past and fully bespoke, crafted by hand with each unit finished in a different artisanal way for discerning consumers looking for a unique and highly individual watch. Completing the aesthetics of the new U-42 Unicum is a handmade and hand stitched calf skin leather strap with a natural distressed appeal and with a “tattoo style” pattern coming from a medioeval manuscript made through a laser treatment.

Underneath the robust exterior U-Boat have equipped the watch with a specially modified Swiss Movement according the brand specifics. Functionally the Unicum features hours, minutes, seconds and is water resistant to a depth of 300 meters.

specifications with stem position at 9 o’clock.

Titanium 50 mm diameter.
With subsequent treatment of IP opaque Black coating.
Crown, pin of the hook, indicators on the bezel, bezel release lever in bronze.
Bidirectional rotating bezel in titanium lockable with a lever on the right side of the case.
12 o’clock ball indicator on the bezel made of ceramic.
Serial number engraved on a small plate fixed on the side of the case.
BACK: in titanium fixed on case with 6 screws
DIAL
Matt black, markers treated with vintage superluminova (peach color).
Baton hands, treated with superluminova. 
Precious decoration in silver at 9 o'clock (skull), hand set.
The dial, the case and the hands are refinished by hand using the traditional artisanal techniques.
This handmade technique renders each U-BOAT UNICUM, different and one of its kind.
CRYSTAL: Sapphire anti-reflective glass.
WATER RESISTANCE:  300 mt, 30 ATM.
STRAP
Handmade calf leather strap with a “tattoo style” pattern made through  a laser and processed according to traditional artisan techniques to give the strap  a naturally distressed look and feel,  brown color. 
Finishes made with waxed cotton. 
The incised words are part of an ancient manuscript, a mysterious handwritten letter dated 1572.
Tongue buckle in titanium, with subsequent coating IP opaque black. Width: 23/22 mm.
