A unique talent, an art for combining classic and modern to reinvent tradition. A youthful, refreshing, impertinent, offbeat style. An apt description of Joachim Horsley – or could it be Corum? Probably both, and that's what brought these two figures together.

Millions of people know Joachim Horsley... without ever seeing or recognising him.

He has composed film scores for Dreamworks productions, arranged songs for Michael Bublé and John Legend, performed on stage with Ben Folds, and even has a YouTube channel for his own arrangements, which have been played a record-breaking number of times with 10 million views in six months – a feat unmatched by any other solo pianist.

Working to a frenzied pace, Joachim Horsley and Corum came together to create a unique watchmaking composition, which was unveiled at an exceptional show at the Folies Bergère in Paris on 15 February. This major international event lifted the veil on the Golden Bridge made to measure by Corum in his honour.

Part of a strictly limited edition, this piece marks the beginning of an enduring partnership between the brand and Joachim Horsley. It is also the first time that Corum's Golden Bridge has embarked on a long-term musical partnership, which over the coming years is set to extend beyond the realm of pure watchmaking.

To reinterpret Beethoven's 7th Symphony with a Cuban-inspired arrangement and rack up 10 million views in 6 months is no mean feat. It goes to show that one can break boundaries with a classical background while taking an audience to new, previously unexpected horizons,” explains Jérôme Biard, CEO of Corum. “At Corum, we are taking this same path in watchmaking. It was a natural partnership. It is an ode to creativity, to non-conformism, and to celebrating new possibilities.”

The Golden Bridge Joachim Horsley will be the first Corum watch to feature a metallic decoration on its sapphire case back. It depicts an extract from the original score of Beethoven's 7th Symphony. The piece will be available in white gold and pink gold.

Corum also teamed up with Reuge to mark this partnership and to give the “Golden Bridge Joachim Horsley” a unique presentation case. Specially designed for the artist, this music box will play three of the melodies personally arranged by Joachim Horsley: compositions by Bach, Mahler and Beethoven reinterpreted as rumbas or with Cuban-inspired beats.

In addition to this co-creation, Corum will also now be giving its clients – music lovers or not – the chance to create their own Golden Bridge based on the same model. Their metallic sapphire case back decoration can feature a different score, or they can even choose a motif, letters, or a coat of arms.

This is yet another step taken by Corum to enhance the potential for personalisation. Following on from a number of very limited editions and one-off collaborations with artists, the La Chaux-de-Fonds brand is taking another step forward by offering collectors the possibility to create their own unique piece.

H. MOSER & CIE. – Swiss ALP WATCH Minute Repeater Tourbillon

H. MOSER & CIE.Swiss ALP WATCH Minute Repeater Tourbillon White Gold - Unique pieces

DRING: LA SWISS ALP WATCH MINUTE REPEATER TOURBILLON
QUI SONNE LES HEURES ET PAS LES NOTIFICATIONS

A minute repeater and a tourbillon in a rectangular case that looks like a smart watch. The Swiss Alp Watch Minute Repeater Tourbillon by H. Moser & Cie. dares to contrast the two. The Schaffhausen-based Manufacture pairs the contemporary design of the case with a complex flying tourbillon movement, fitted with one of the most challenging complications to produce: a minute repeater.

It serves as an elegant reminder of the H. Moser philosophy: "We're not straying into the realm of smart watches, we're remaining true to the tradition of mechanical watchmaking". Restoring the watch to its rightful place as an instrument for measuring time rather than consuming it, H. Moser & Cie. returns to the fundamentals of traditional watchmaking, when timepieces clocked hours instead of notifications. The Swiss Alp Watch Minute Repeater Tourbillon is available in several references, all of which are different and unique pieces.

Manufactures that possess the expertise required to create minute repeaters are few and far between. Since 2005, H. Moser & Cie. have been designing, developing and producing their 13th movement, the C 901 hand-wound calibre. In their challenging quest to combine a perfect harmony with a strong sound, H. Moser & Cie. called upon the expertise of those in the field, specifically MHC Manufactures Hautes Complications SA.

This movement is a true piece of jewellery that not only combines a minute repeater and a tourbillon, a rare feat in watchmaking, but goes further and adds to its complexity with the addition of a shaped calibre. Nestled at the heart of the Swiss Alp Watch's rectangular case with its rounded corners, the C 901 movement is equipped with two gongs that required extreme dexterity to join them; making it very rare indeed.

With constraints not only regarding the angles of the gongs but also those of the case, H. Moser & Cie. were faced with a complex challenge. The case underwent extensive work, the case middle had to be widened to the maximum in order to obtain enough space to create a large soundbox. This amplifies the ring of hours, quarters and minutes emitted by two gongs, onto which fall two hammers that are raised based on information provided by different feeler-spindles. Notwithstanding the fact that this was already a technical feat as regards the minute repeater mechanism, it also required perfect understanding of the subject to achieve a beautiful sound that combines amplitude, a certain length and a pure note.

The minute flying tourbillon at 6 o'clock is certainly eye-catching. Visible behind a skeleton bridge, it is fitted to a bearing that improves the precision and chronometry. Resolutely contemporary and in line with modern times, the tourbillon appears to float weightlessly on the dial stripped of both logo and indices.

Moser & Cie. has developed a new aesthetic for this unique piece that is the first of its kind. The dial is reminiscent of a mosaic composed of shades of blue. Alternating surfaces and a play on finishes are an abstract and contemporary nod to the famed H. Moser & Cie. Funky Blue dial. The Swiss Alp Watch Minute Repeater Tourbillon will be produced in several references, all of which are unique pieces.
