CHRONOSWISS – Flying Regulator Open Gear Anniversary Edition

CHRONOSWISS Flying Regulator Open Gear 35th Anniversary Edition

Baselworld 2018 Chronoswiss
Flying Regulator Open Gear

Chronoswiss introduces a modern version of its Regulator and announces a new strategic partnership. With certain brands, it is sometimes hard to define the DNA, the essence of their creations or what is the common theme linking the collections. With Chronoswiss on the other hand, this is rather easy. Indeed, the brand has a clear segmentation, as most of its watches are based on a regulator display. The latest model in the collection doesn’t derogate from the general rule. Please meet the Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear, a modern take on the brand’s codes.

The regulator watch is closely linked to the history of Chronoswiss, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Indeed, the regulator was the first stand-alone model in the history of Chronoswiss and in subsequent years, it quickly became the brand ́s central theme. This model is even celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Thus, no surprises that the team behind the brand wanted this original display to be at centre stage in their latest creation, as a preview for Baselworld 2018.

Following the revolutionary 3D dials and skeletonizations of recent years, Chronoswiss is now introducing the Flying Regulator Open Gear version featuring a revolutionary regulator style dial layout with visible movement parts.

Its dial is simultaneously its module board, onto which the train wheel bridges of the skeletonized gears are mounted. These move on four ruby bearings, generating the least possible friction. The train wheel bridges have also been elaborately skeletonized and boast carefully angled and polished edges. Six visually appealing blued screws keep them reliably in their intended place on the dial, once more proving the brand´s credo of functional design. At 6 o’clock on the dial, the Flying Regulator Open Gear reveals an exciting insight.

The dial and the bridge have been skeletonized at the height of the small second so that you can see the second wheel in action. As the associated seconds scale – just like the display for the hour at 12 o’clock, by the way – floats above the dial on a funnel-like display, the gaze is virtually drawn towards the inner workings and to the seconds wheel, designed to look like a rotary dial.

The Flying Regulator Open Gear comes in four different variants:  stainless steel with dials in galvanic blue, black or silver, or in a red gold case with galvanic silver dial. SuperLumiNova inlays on the hands and indexes always ensure great legibility in the dark.

This new model is a pure Chronoswiss development, from the design to the dial module. Its 37 individual parts were manufactured in Lucerne and then assembled in the House of Chronoswiss. The “Atelier Lucerne” mark, resplendent on the dial, is testament to this. Furthermore, the brand’s complete prototype construction is now performed in-house.

A special edition of the Flying Regulator Open Gear will also be launched to celebrate the brand’s 35-year anniversary in 2018.

BREITLING – Navitimer 8 Automatic 2018

BREITLINGNAVITIMER 8 Automatic Steel 41 mm Collection 2018

NAVITIMER 8 AUTOMATIC

Purist par excellence: Breitling takes us back to its legendary wristwatches from the 1930s and 1940s with the new Navitimer 8 Automatic.

Breitling’s new wristwatch is the ideal expression of its continuing history as an internationally recognized manufacturer of precise, robust, and extremely reliable timepieces for aviation. In this sense, the Navitimer 8 Automatic has links to exemplary onboard clocks and an expressive pilot’s wristwatch, which made history from 1940 onwards.

The Reference 768 underlined the comprehensive expertise that the Huit Aviation Department has consistently demonstrated since its founding in 1938 with its crystal-clear readability, perfect usability, and reliability under any circumstances.

Naturally, this version of the Navitimer 8 Automatic is also packed with positive features. It appeals to timekeeping purists who only want to read hours, minutes, seconds, and the date off their blue or black dial. The chronometer certification is a guarantee of precision, which must be passed by every single Breitling Caliber 17 without exception.

The maximum running deviation tolerated is between minus four and plus six seconds in a 24-hour period. This makes this 41 millimeter chronometer with a ball-bearing rotor winding on both sides, over 40 hours of power reserve, and four-hertz balance frequency 99.99 percent accurate in a day consisting of 86,400 seconds.

Breitling manufactures its case with convex, double anti-reflective sapphire glass, a screw-in crown, and a solid screw-in base made of stainless steel. You can choose between a leather strap with a pin buckle or a stainless steel strap. A black DLC-coated version with a leather strap is also available. Whatever your choice, the case withstands water pressure up to ten bar.

Finally, the bezel with 60 small notches replaces a chronograph by moving the pointer in front of the minute hand at a certain distance, thus allowing the remaining time to be set for a certain event – completely straightforward and simple. It definitely doesn’t get any simpler and more practical than that.
