ZENITH – El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing

ZENITH El Primero Stratos Spindrift Racing NEW

The ultimate sports watch
Daring has the wind in its sails

There are challenges that are part of a brand’s DNA. Accompanying a daring young professional sailing racing team, taking part in a legendary solo transatlantic crossing on the world’s biggest ocean-going trimaran with one of the best skippers on the planet… it didn’t take much more for Zenith, official timekeeper for Spindrift racing to mark this new challenge with the ultimate sports watch: the El Primero Stratos Spindrift racing, which sports two different faces – one in rose gold and the other in DLC-coated stainless steel.

And always  with adventure  in mind…

The Manufacture Zenith has always had a passion for measuring time. While the effects of this quest are taken for granted these days, things were very different at the turn of the 20th century. The industrial revolution gave rise not only to the need to pace human activity, but also – and perhaps above all, to contribute to the precision of navigation and later, telecommunications. In 1899, the first Zenith chronograph made watchmaking history as well as contributing to modern-day technological progress. Nurtured by the visionary mindset of its founder, and cultivating his ability to see beyond limits, Zenith has unceasingly accompanied pioneers and adventurers, from the moment Louis Blériot crossed the Channel in 1909 to Felix Baumgartner’s freefall from the stratosphere in 2012. And for the Manufacture in Le Locle, human adventure is often synonymous with technical innovation and watchmaking progress. Thus, in 1969, the El Primero calibre, the first automatic integrated high-frequency chronograph movement, launched six months before man’s first step on the moon, instantly became the symbol of daring watchmaking. Nearly 50 years after the creation of this exceptional movement, the timepieces housing it are the only numbered chronographs capable of measuring short time spans to the nearest 1/10th of a second. More recently, the creation of the gyroscopic Gravity Control module after five years of research and development represented a major watchmaking advance. Be it technical or human, adventure is unquestionably in Zenith’s genes.

Great minds always end up meeting

True to its values of daring, authenticity and pleasure, Zenith has naturally cast off towards a new challenge. Since 2014, the Manufacture with the guiding star has been involved in another adventure: a partnership as official timekeeper of the Spindrift racing team, led by skippers Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

Over and above shared values, the partners’ respective approaches to challenges – whether on a workbench for one or on the ocean for another – are strictly identical. Be it implementing interdisciplinary synergies in targeting performance or developing innovative solutions for a solo race, designing ever more accurate movements or increasingly faster boats, using materials that make it possible to break free of constraints or withstand several tons of stress levels: here too, the objectives are extremely similar.

“Our association with Spindrift racing is a logical step in the development of Zenith, which has been achieving steadily growing success over the past five years. Through this highly technological project, we clearly express our philosophy of looking higher and further, as well as that of the people who wear our watches. We enjoy focusing on projects and characters who make things happen. Dona, Yann and their teams have the stuff of those modern heroes who drive dreams and make the world go round. We are proud to associate our watches with their future performances,” said Zenith President and CEO, Aldo Magada recently.

The conqueror  of the seas

Designed to beat the most formidable crewed ocean records, maxi trimaran Spindrift 2 has already set ten records around the world since its launch, including the Trophée Jules Verne. On Sunday November 2nd, she will cross the start line of the Route du Rhum, the legendary solo transatlantic race that takes place every four years between Saint-Malo (mainland France) and Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe).

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

Optimized in order to suit the program and the athletic objectives of the team, this ocean-going giant is the result of a daring challenge taken up by Donatella Bertarelli, businesswoman and accomplished athlete and Yann Guichard, one of the best skippers in the world. Through this project, the two partners share a passion for a multi-faceted sport where performance depends on high-tech materials as well as on passionately dedicated men and women. Since the creation of the team in 2011, the team’s approach – controlled daring – remains unchanged. It has even been rewarded. Like Zenith, the Spindrift racing team follows its own star. “Our project has grown and already enjoys great international recognition. With Yann, we are holding all the cards for new breakthroughs and we are proud of our alliance with Zenith,” says Dona Bertarelli.

A premiere for the El Primero line

In its capacity as official timekeeper for the Spindrift racing team, notably during the 2014 Route du Rhum, it was quite natural for Zenith to enrich its El Primero line with a timepiece equipped with a chronograph function in tribute to this exceptional human adventure.
The understated yet technical dial of the El Primero Stratos Spindrift racing has two particularities. The first is the opening onto the escapement at 10 o’clock, making this watch the first Stratos to be equipped with this feature. The happy owner can thus admire the heart of his watch.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

The second characteristic lies on the inside face of the inner bezel ring bearing the inscription “Spindrift racing” at 12 o’clock. It consists of the telemetric scale serving to calculate the distance of a visible and audible phenomenon. The inscription and the team logo engraved on the oscillating weight bring to mind the connection between this top of the range sports watch and the forthcoming sailing challenges both on Lake Léman and on the oceans around the globe.

The automatic El Primero 4061 is equipped with a lever and escape-wheel in silicon, an avant-garde material that has resolved problems relating to lubrication. Silicon is much harder and lighter than steel, which makes it both resistant to wear and tear and less energy intensive, due to its low friction coefficient. It is also non-magnetic.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

Equipped with a column wheel, a sure token of high-quality calibres, this highly precise movement is fitted inside a case equipped with a rotating bezel and available in two different two-tone options – rose gold and DLC titanium, enhanced with a black dial – or completely black – the DLC variation with a carbon fibre dial. These two resolutely masculine versions are coated in DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon), giving the watch its spectacular matt black colour as well as considerable hardness and resistance to scratches.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

The flexibility of the strap stems from its design: a rubber core into which a thick, structured fibre fabric is inserted. The result: robustness, comfort and a firm hold suited to all situations and particularly sailing sports.

TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield Chronograph

The TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield, a distillation of strength and virility matched with supreme reliability. In this spirit, and to accompany the launch of the TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield, TUDOR – in collaboration with its partner, Ducati – has customized the one-of-a-kind Diavel Carbon model with a black matt finish on the whole motorcycle and bronze highlighting on the details.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

Monolithic and scratch-proof, the TUDOR Fastrider Black Shield’s monobloc case in matt black ceramic is an archetype in its genre. Not only is it fashioned using nothing but high-tech injected ceramic – not ceramic applied to another material as a coating – but it is also made entirely in one process.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO            Full BIG FOTO

The whole case is produced as a single piece – a unique operation for watches in this segment. In addition to the noble aesthetics of this chronograph, the extremely complex procedure adopted for its manufacture – a result of technological expertise acquired in perfecting the bezel for the Pelagos line – ensures that both the middle case and bezel are exceptionally reliable and resistant.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...               BIG FOTO

Waterproof to a depth of 150 metres (500 feet) and fitted with direct-action pushers and a screwdown crown in PVD-treated steel, the 42 mm case houses a self-winding chronograph movement with a power reserve of approximately 46 hours.

The matt finish selected for this monobloc case shows off to particular advantage the clean curves and taut lines of this chronograph. It also accentuates the watch’s dimensions and the tachymetric scale engraved on the bezel.

The strength emanating from the case is highlighted by the bronze-tinted features that punctuate the dial. A unique statement of precision and performance, this chronograph is available with either a rubber strap or a beige Alcantara® strap with black stitching.

RJ-Romain Jerome – Berlin-DNA Limited Edition

RJ-Romain JeromeGENERATIONAL ICONS Berlin-DNA "Fall of the Iron Curtain" 25th Anniversary Limited Edition NEW

RJ-Romain Jerome X East Side Gallery - It's never too late to effect change. It's never too soon to remember. It’s always time to Fight for a good cause: the Berlin-DNA.

Celebrating 25 years of the fall of the Iron Curtain, RJ-Romain Jerome launches a new and exclusive timepiece in collaboration with The East Side Gallery: the Berlin-DNA. Dedicated to creating timepieces infused with the notions of “Icons and Legends”, this new timepiece translates the euphoria felt in the wake of the reunification of Germany in the shape of a true piece of Art for the wrist.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..            BIG FOTO

Following the reunification in 1990, the East Side Gallery brought together 118 artists from around the globe to paint 1.3 km along the east side of the wall. Known as the longest open-air gallery in the world, this historical monument is also one of the most visited in Germany.
Threatened by pollution, vandalism or destruction, RJ-Romain Jerome has committed itself to preserving this historical emblem by contributing proceeds from the sale of the Berlin-DNA timepieces to the East Side Gallery.

"The East Side Gallery embodies both a piece of art and a piece of history. This combination is unprecedented in today’s world. The Wall is a constant reminder of the passion and commitment behind the quest for people’s freedom, and translates the euphoria felt in the wake of the reunification! The images of people literally tearing into the Wall after decades of oppression has marked the minds of millions and has become Legendary. It’s exactly this type of Legend that inspires RJ-Romain Jerome” said Manuel Emch, CEO of RJ-Romain Jerome. “With this partnership, we want to set an example by preserving art and historical vestige."

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..            BIG FOTO

The Berlin-DNA timepiece is housed in a 46mm black PVD-coated steel case and black ceramic bezel. Taken from above, the grey dial shows a section of Berlin outlining the three-dimensional streets and buildings. The dial is highlighted by the route of the Wall in red with a green Superluminova finish and a blue line recalling the Spree River. The design of the dial was inspired by the fall of the Wall, which occurred after the onset of darkness on the city. Therefore RJ-Romain Jerome has worked the entire dial in Superluminova allowing the streets and open spaces of the city to light up in the dark.

The collaboration with the East Side Gallery has allowed RJ-Romain Jerome to collect fragments of the wall which have been incorporated inside the dial of the timepiece - creating a unique piece of art, perpetuating contemporary history on the wrist.

The back of the watch, which is limited to 25 examples, beholds one of the most famous paintings found on the Wall of the East Side Gallery: “The Brother kiss" of Russian artist Dmitri Vrubel. Inspired by a picture taken in 1979, “The Kiss” illustrates Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and East German President Erich Honnecker, kissing each other after Mr. Brezhnev’s speech during the 30th anniversary of the Deutsche Demokratische Republik.

A print of this famous image lies on each case back. The watch also beholds a beautifully hand crafted black Hornback crocodile strap recalling the darkness of the case.
The Berlin Wall stood as a symbol of dictatorship and separation but is also the symbol of a peaceful struggle for freedom, euphoria and true solidarity. Each lucky owner of a Berlin-DNA timepiece will possess a timeless treasure that transcribes Dmitri Vrubel’s thoughts and emotions during the production of his art in 1990 and is an incredible testament to freedom, hopes and dreams for a more human society.

ABOUT THE EAST SIDE GALLERY BERLIN

Located at the Mühlenstrasse in Berlin, the East Side Gallery is the longest open air gallery in the world. With an impressive Art exposition of 1,316 meters long, the Wall is composed of 106 large paintings, painted by artists from all over the world.

Following the reunification of Germany in 1990, many artists spontaneously travelled to Berlin, showing their support by expressing their art and emotions directly on the Wall.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..                  BIG FOTO

The East Side Gallery incarnates the euphoria that resounded after the fall of the Iron Curtain on Europe, and the freedom of the people that resulted from this. The East Side Gallery is recognized as a historical monument which led to the peaceful resolution of boundaries and conventions between companies and the people. Over 1,3 million visitors travel each year to discover this historical vestige that still stands twenty years after the reunification.

MIDO – COMMANDER Caliber 80 Chronometer

MIDOCOMMANDER II Caliber 80 Chronometer NEW

A power reserve of up to 80 hours for a timepiece emblematic of Mido know-how

The Commander collection, emblem of Mido’s watchmaking expertise since 1959, is expanding to include the Caliber 80 Chronometer, a high-precision model powered by a new, latest generation chronometer movement. Designed to meet Mido’s exacting requirements, this movement has doubled in autonomy, with a power reserve of up to 80 hours. The Commander Caliber 80 Chronometer is the embodiment of perfect harmony between the modern and the traditional: the best of watchmaking innovation combined with timeless design that has had enduring appeal for over half a century. Like the Eiffel Tower for the city of Paris, the Commander is an iconic model for the Mido brand.

The Commander collection, with the inimitable character of its fine round case in satinated steel, is as immediately recognizable as the Eiffel Tower, and like the monument, it has withstood the test of time and remained eternally youthful. Its exceptionally long life is testimony to its success: the Commander has been in continuous production by Mido since 1959 – its successful formula has been replicated for over five decades. Like the monument that is symbolic of Paris, the Commander has thus become a true icon of Swiss watchmaking tradition and know-how. The purity of its design has made it one of the most faithful interpretations of Mido’s philosophy: timelessness is a mark of true design.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Powered by an elaborate finished Caliber 80, the Commander Caliber 80 Chronometer is equipped to meet any challenge. This new movement is certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (the official Swiss chronometer testing institute) and was designed to meet Mido's exacting requirements. The result is exceptional autonomy – with a power reserve of up to 80 hours – and unfailing accuracy. The technical qualities of the Commander Caliber 80 Chronometer are complemented by its robust case. A satinated steel case with polished bezel, 40 mm in diameter, is a perfect circle symbolizing the emblematic character of the collection. The rhodium-plated sunray satinated dial is protected by a domed, facetted sapphire crystal. The aperture at 3 o’clock displays the day and the date. An exceptional timepiece, the Commander Caliber 80 Chronometer exemplifies all the watchmaking know-how of Mido: a design of timeless elegance combined with the latest innovations in precision mechanical watch movements.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The nickel-plated facetted appliques around the dial evoke the Eiffel Tower and the refinement of its metalwork. For easy reading at night, delicate touches of white Super-LumiNova® adorn the hour and minute hands and the appliques. Water resistant up to a pressure of up to 5 bar (50 m / 165 ft), this model is equipped with a brown leather strap. There is no doubt that the remarkable technical and aesthetic merits of the Commander Caliber 80 Chronometer will appeal to fine watchmaking enthusiasts, who will never tire of admiring the sophisticated decoration of the movement through the transparent case-back.

Several different finishes are available for this model.
