Alpina - Worldtimer Manufacture Edition

Alpina - Worldtimer Manufacture Limited Edition  NEW

 Worldtimer Manufacture

By the mid-nineteenth century, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) had been established as the primary reference time zone for the British Empire and for much of the world. GMT is based on the line of longitude running through the Greenwich Observatory located in the suburbs of London.
Over time, time zones became established based on GMT as being x number of hours ahead or behind GMT. Interestingly, the clock began at noon under GMT so noon was represented by zero hours.
As more sophisticated timepieces became available, the need for a new timepiece showing world time became apparent. A world time watch lets its wearer see the time in all of the 24 zones around the world.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...  BIG FOTO

Alpina's Worldtimer features a rotating ring with the names of 24 cities inscribed on it.

A second rotating ring has 24-hour markers. This is used to display time in different time zones. Local time is shown by a standard hour and minute hand.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...  BIG FOTO
The Alpina Worldtimer has a mechanical automatic caliber AL-718 with 26 jewels and has a 48-hour power reserve. The watch is water resistant to 10 ATM.  The watch is finished off with a black leather crocodile strap. The front and the back of the watch are covered with sapphire crystal.

The world time system works this way. First, the local city is set at the top by changing the disc via the crown. For example, Genève is set on top. It means that the hour and minutes hands are representing the time in Genève (= Central Europe).

From the outer dial, the wearer can check the times in different time zones. Under the label New York, the number displayed is 5, meaning that it is 5:07 a.m. in New York. Under the name Moscow, you see the number 13, meaning that it is 13:07 hours, or 1:07 p.m., in Moscow. In this way, the Alpina Worldtimer shows the time around the world in a glance.

The Alpina Worldtimer is part of the Alpina Aviation collection, developed in close collaboration with Cessna Aircraft and PrivatAir. Alpina Genève, Cessna Aviation and PrivatAir work together closely to promote their equally high quality products and services, through cross-marketing activities in Europe and North America.
Developed in-house, the Worldtimer is based on the AL-710 caliber used in the Startimer Manufacture.
The new Worldtimer caliber (AL-718) ensures easy adjustment of all functions, through a single crown. Best of all is its price, well below any other high-end Worldtimer with manufacture movement!

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Furthermore, the production of the Alpina Startimer Worldtimer will be limited at 8’888 pieces and they will be presented in a dedicated, luxurious packaging, alongside a Cessna Citation Mustang scale model in PrivatAir livery.

Daniel Strom - Agonium Memento Mori Palladium Limited Edition

.

STROM AGONIUM Memento Mori Palladium Bone-White Limited Edition

Daniel Strom, the creator of the mark Agonium, presents Memento Mori, with a design decididamente Gothic. A clock with an atypical box, with carved skulls that we can imagine easily in the doll of Keith Richards. A piece that is not going to like all, but that will not make anybody indifferent.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Closer inspection reveals the tiny lines left behind by the sculptor. But not a trace of soldering. Each piece has been created from a handcrafted mould and then finished by hand, coaxing the metal - silver, gold, platinum or palladium - into the desired form while deferring to its prestige. Achieving such a result requires unquestionable artistic talent, but also patience and attention to every gesture. A proven savoir-faire that gives the full measure of the artist’s skill.

The first model in the Agonium collection is called "Memento Mori". Beneath its rebellious, Gothic outer shell lies true substance. Before being a timepiece, "Memento Mori" is a reflection of our existential questions. Birth, death, life, time, rebirth. Daniel Strom’s creation confronts us with our mortality and challenges our vanities. The skulls that embellish the watch are far from being a mere facade. They are a powerful symbol. Life. To be lived to the full.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

While the primary function of "Memento Mori" goes beyond the measure of time, it no less does justice to Swiss watchmaking expertise. The case, finished by hand but crafted from a unique mould, represents the fusion of watchmaking and metal art. Gold, silver, platinum and palladium, as many versions as moods, are brought to life by the artist’s talent. The sculpted case encloses the inner case that holds the movement, an ETA 2824 calibre. As for the dial, it borrows the hallmarks of two world-renowned clocks: Big Ben in London and the Zytglogge in Bern. "Bone white" or black with twelve Roman numerals, it is the epitome of discretion. A trio of hands counts time: hours, minutes and seconds.

Edition limited in silver, red gold, platinum or paladio.

Arnold & Son - HMS1 Dragon Limited Edition

Arnold & Son - HMS1 Dragon Limited Edition NEW

Arnold & Son celebrates the Chinese Year of the Dragon (2012), by launching a special edition HMS1 collection. The HMS1 Dragon Limited Edition in rose gold features a magnificent gold dragon (traditional Chinese dragon) appliqué on a black lacquered dial.

The figure on the dial was inspired by one of the dragons depicted on the Nine-Dragon Wall in Beihai Park, an imperial garden to the northwest of the Forbidden City in Beijing.
The Wall was completed in 1756, which perhaps significantly was just eight years before John Arnold opened his clockmaking workshop in London’s Strand in 1764. It just so happens that the number eight is of particular importance in many Asian cultures.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...  BIG FOTO

The exquisite gold dragon appliqué is created by a craftsman selected specially for his expertise in hand-engraving, a traditional art form that involves the use of hardened steel tools called burins in combination with other special tools. These create cuts, lines and texturing that build up entire images or, as in the case of the HMS1 Dragon Special Edition, a perfectly sculpted figure in solid 22-carat gold with a breathtaking richness of detail, which is then duplicated for the series.
The three-dimensional nature of the dragon appliqué also provides a spectacular illusion of depth that contrasts starkly with the HMS1’s ultra-slim case.

Exclusive Arnold & Son mechanical movement calibre A&S1001

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The dragon is mounted on a black lacquered dial with powdered gold indices for the minutes. Ticking away beneath the face is a hand-wound movement, manufactured entirely in-house and just 2.7 millimetres in thickness. The movement features twin barrels, which, apart from generating an 80-hour power reserve also guarantee a more constant force and in turn a more constant rate and greater accuracy. All the plates and bridges in the movement are hand-chamfered and decorated – a further indication of the traditional craftsmanship upheld by Arnold & Son throughout the company’s long history.

Available in 18-carat rose gold or in a second, more exclusive, version in 18-carat rose gold with a diamond-set bezel, the HMS1 Dragon Limited Edition is housed in a 40 mm diameter case, with a black hand-stitched alligator leather strap and is water-resistant to 30 metres.
