LOUIS VUITTON - Tambour “Fly Back” Chronograph

Louis Vuitton Tambour “Fly Back” Chronograph  NEW

The “Fly Back” Tambour Automatic Chronograph is characterised by a strong design: a tarmac-coloured black dial, two auxiliary counters (30-minute totaliser and small second hand) evoking the military chronographs of the sixties, and a bright yellow central hand allowing you to read sequentially the seconds that have passed on the chronograph on a double circular scale reminiscent of the radars found in aeroplane cockpits.

Prized by pilots for their navigation calculations, the Fly Back function allows you to reset the timing underway and restart another instantly by pressing and immediately releasing the reset push button, without needing to activate the “stop” push button.

To make reading the time easier, all of the time indications (index, hollow central hands, and small second counter) are made of shiny black steel, while the Fly Back chronograph instrumentation is adorned in yellow, a colour linked to the Maison’s history (sewing thread for fine leather goods) and very widely used in the world of aeronautics.

Powered by the LV 137 automatic calibre manufactured in the Dubois-Dépraz Swiss workshops, the “Fly Back” Tambour Automatic Chronograph offers a power reserve of 42 hours and features an ingenious date window positioned between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock.

A professional instrument produced in a limited, numbered edition of 888 pieces, which is housed in the famous Tambour 44 mm-diameter steel case.

Equipped with a rubber-overmolded winding crown for optimal ergonomics, the “Fly Back” Tambour Automatic Chronograph is mounted on a two-material leather strap (alligator and calfskin with a yellow calfskin lining and yellow signature stitch).

Like every Planet Ocean, the new watch is ready for underwater adventure. Equipped with a unidirectional rotating diving bezel and a helium escape valve, the watch is water resistant 60 bar / 600 metres / 2000 feet.

The watch has a 42 mm brushed and polished stainless steel case and a matching patented screw-and-pin bracelet whose divers’ clasp is engraved with “007”. The rotating diving bezel is distinguished by its matt black ceramic ring with a chromium nitride diving scale.

The applied indexes on the matt structured black dial are coated with white Super-LumiNova emitting a blue light as are the polished, facetted rhodium-plated hands. The exception is the minute hand which emits a green light, as does the dot on the diving bezel. This feature makes it easy for divers to keep track of their time at a glance. At the 7 o’clock position is a 007 logo and at 3 o’clock, there is a date window.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M SKYFALL Limited Edition is powered by OMEGA's exclusive new Co-Axial calibre 8507. SKYFALL 007 is on its rotor in black-varnished engraving. The movement is visible through sapphire crystal in the brushed screw-in caseback.

Along with OMEGA’s industry-changing Co-Axial technology, the watch is equipped with an "Si14" silicon balance spring. The combination is so stable and reliable that the Planet Ocean comes with a full four-year warranty.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M SKYFALL wristwatch is being produced in an edition limited to 5,007 pieces and is delivered in a special presentation box.

JS Watch - Frisland God - Hand Engraved Special Edition

JS Watch - Frisland God - Hand Engraved Special Edition

Should Icelanders continue practicing their Nordic Pantheism (Asatru), or should they become Christian? That was the difficult issue facing the members of parliament during a session in 1000 A.D. Just as the discussions had reached fever pitch, news of fires and lava headed towards the homestead of Snorri, one of Iceland’s most respected citizen, was reported. The pantheists immediately pointed out that the eruption was obviously happening because the Gods were upset with these proceedings and the discussion of religious conversion. Snorri then questioned, “What angered the Gods when the earth burned where we now stand?” No one could come up with an answer to this question and this led to Iceland’s peaceful conversion to Christianity.

A long time before this momentous decision, stories were told of a group of Irish priests, Papar, that already inhabited Iceland by the time of the Vikings’ arrival about twelve to thirteen hundred years ago. The Papar wanted to live a solitary life, a life where they could practice their faith away from the distractions of the world. To reach peaceful lands, they would sail long distances in their rawhide boats. They described Iceland, or Ultima Thule as they called it, as a fertile land with summer nights so bright that one could pick lice off of one’s shirt during the night as well as the day. The Papar came from long settled lands where the earth was still and cultivated. They must have been amazed by this young island where the earth shook, spurting out ash, lava, and hot water. Or, this might have fit perfectly into their world view where sinners should be forever burned by fire in Satan’s netherworlds.
This young, active island became a haven for Vikings who left Norway to escape the harsh rule of King Harald Fairhair (Haraldur Harfagri) looking for new places to settle. Just like the Papar before them, they were most likely surprised by the earth’s constant rumblings. When traveling across the mountains, they would have seen barren fields of lava, ash covered hills, and plumes of white smoke from geysers. The contrast of the fire and ice would have perplexed these early settlers who believed that only those who died of old age, sickness, or as a coward were sent to the underworld of “Heljar”, a place covered in snow and ice. The settlers would eventually have been forced to adjust their faith to rationalize the fire, shaking ground, and loss of human lives and livestock . Then there was the ash. The fine, minuscule dust that the volcanoes churned out in massive quantities. The effects fo the falling ash was devastating, leaving dead animals and suffering farmers in its wake.

In 2010, the volcano Eyjafjallajokull, turned the whole world upside down by discharging incredible amounts of ash into the sky. The gigantic ash cloud was blown over into mainland Europe stalling airline traffic for days and days. People from all over the world were now affected by Icelandic ash, just as the Vikings had been centuries before. Just as people were beginning to forget and to forgive our small island nation for the eruption and its resulting disruptions, another volcano began erupting. This time it was one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, Grimsvotn. Even though the airline industry had learned some difficult lessons the year before, this eruption still caused disruption.

The minuscule, light volcanic ash that has upended the world twice in two years will give the owner the energy and power that can only be found in the innermost workings of our Earth.

The watch displays a splendid face, made of ash from the volcano Eyjafjallajökull, in a 42 mm diameter steel case with hand-engraved ancient-style motif. On the side of the watch one can see the word ÍSLAND (ICELAND) written in "Höfðaletur", but "Höfðaletur" (Head Letters) is an unusual Icelandic font mainly used to adorn things made of wood, horn and, later on, metals. "Höfðaletur" brings with it real elegance as well as mystery. In earlier times this type of letters was rather hard to read and for that reason chosen to keep secrets. Things adorned with "Höfðaletur" were those people cherished.

MIDO - All Dial Tenth Anniversary Limited Edition

MIDO - All Dial Tenth Anniversary Limited Edition NEW

Innovation and temperament: distinctive features of the Coliseum and the All Dial

For the watchmaker Mido, the visionary architecture of a monument is synonymous with a mark of true design, just like the All Dial, which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. To mark the event, Mido has created a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. Drawing inspiration from the original, it pays homage to eternal Rome; the Coliseum is engraved on the case back of this COSC-certified chronometer, and the dial with its characteristic contours indicates the hours with Roman numerals.

Following the example of other models, the incomparable design of this new All Dial is based on observation of one of the most famous artefacts of Roman history, the Coliseum. Designed according to the same ingenious concept, it is a beautiful evocation of this monument’s visionary architecture.

This COSC-certified chronometer has an extremely accurate automatic movement that will satisfy every wish of the man who admires fine watchmaking and appreciates Swiss tradition and know-how. Presented in a limited edition, it features an engraving of the Coliseum on the case back, making this model unique.

With a diameter of 42 mm, the dial exhibits contours reminiscent of those imagined by the architects of the Coliseum. Its anthracite centre with a sunray satinated finish creates a focal point of stunning elegance. In an attractive reference to Mido’s colour, the Roman numerals are orange, as are the applied indexes and hands treated with Super-LumiNova®. An anti-reflecting sapphire crystal treated on both sides makes it easy to tell the time. The model has a screw down crown.

Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft), this model comes with a stainless steel bracelet with a satin and polished finish.

CARL F. BUCHERER - Patravi TravelTec FourX

Carl F. Bucherer - Patravi TravelTec Four X

The Swiss watchmaker Carl F. Bucherer will use the upcoming Baselworld 2012 trade show, which is going to be held in March, 2012 in Geneve, Switzerland, to introduce its new, high-tech and massive  Carl F. Bucherer Patravi TravelTec Four X (Ref. 00.10620.22.93.01) automatic wrist watch.

Designed with frequent travelers and businessmen in mind, the new watch is equipped with their new CFB 1901.1 self-winding caliber: probably, just a skeletonized version of the original CFB 1901 movement that was first presented back in 2009 when the Swiss brand presented the original Patravi TravelTec model.
Featuring 39 jewels and being only 7.3 millimeters thick, the movement makes the watch capable of showing whole three time zones: a local time zone, which is indicated with the usual hours and minutes hands, as well as a couple of secondary time zones that are indicated with thinner hands.
One of them is in gold and the other simply painted red. Each has its own scale in the military-style 24-hour format on the bezel flange.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The wheel of the simple calendar is clearly visible through the tinted sapphire crystal that replaces the solid dial of the original watch. To make the date more readable, the top crystal (which is, by the way, treated with antireflective coating on both sides) is equipped with a rather large fish-eye magnifying lens.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

In their press release, Carl F. Bucherer especially stresses that the watch was built using whole four materials: 18 carat rose gold for the case, as well as black ceramic for the bezel, rubber for the chronograph pushers, crown and the black rubber strap, and titanium for the GMT monopusher.
Frankly, I can’t really say that I like this watch: there are just too many details, too many colors, too many functions that have little practical use now, when everyone seems to have a smartphone in their pockets. Its case, which is almost 47 millimeters in size, is too huge, defying the emerging trend of making smaller, more elegant timekeepers.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

However, I must admit that from the point of view of pure mechanics, this is indeed a work of art, a micromechanical tour de force that only a few manufactures can replicate without turning to third-party contractors. It would be really nice to have one in one’s private collection of contemporary industrial design.

ORIS - Artix GT Chronograph

ORIS - Artix GT Chronograph NEW

A Day at the Races

At the heart of innovation and design, the Oris Artix GT Chronograph is the latest addition to the Oris family. Building on Oris’ Motor Sports heritage, the watch combines timeless contemporary design with sporty elegance.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size .                      .. BIG FOTO

The watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement, with chronograph function and date. The two-piece dial, with a matt black dial ring and a Tachymeter scale, is directly assembled in the case with both minute and hour counters, along with applied indexes. An interesting addition is the Oris developed retrograde mechanism, which allows the small seconds to ‘grow’ like the RPM counter in a racing car.

The striking multi-piece stainless steel case adds enduring refinement, which catches the eye. Building on the sports theme, the bezel with black ceramic minute scale rotates in both directions and features a rubber coating for “good grip” and precision.

The unique chronograph design is underlined with seconds and hours at 12 and 6 o’clock and the special, smaller seconds display at 9 o’clock. A stunning example of Oris’ passion for watch design, the polished nickel hands are finished with Superluminova inlay, which stands out against the dark backdrop of the watch.
